Just my 2 cents.
Honda has a right to withhold information about the 05 Ody but is a smart thing to do. Consider if they were to release photos and specs, they would then get a better idea of whether or not people like it. They could release the info then read our posts about the good and the bad.
I snuck a peek at the photos of the 05 ody and really dont like it. I like the slick look of the 04. The only this the 04 is missing is the magic middle seat. The nose of the 05 looks too bulky. looks a little like the Caravans big front end, or fords freesatrs front end. The back end is okay, has an MDX kind of look but I still like the 04's rear better.
I hear many people talk about the JDM odyssey and personally dont consider it a minivan. To me you should be able to go from the front passenger seat to the third row seat in a minivan without opening any doors. Needless to say the JDM Ody to me is just a wagon with a third row. I really like the look of it though. Combine that slick look of the JDM Ody into the 05 US Ody and I would take one now.
The Quest has too odd of a look for me. I think Toyota did a great job with the Sienna. Its not too bold of a look yet more than what Honda offers.
By the way, This is from a 24 Y.O with 1 kid and one on the way.
What are your opinions about this? About what he said bout the 05 ODY!?
As I stated at Odyclub.com, what did we do before these forums were created? We waited for something in the magazines. Did people really complain this much about lack of info before?
I don't see enough of my kids as it is. My kids watch enough TV when they're at home as it is.
Damn it, we're all eating around the kitchen table, TOGETHER, tonite...
mrblonde49: I agree with the distraction statement. It is REALLY distracting to have constant talking behind you while you are trying to concentrate on the road. There is alot of traffic in this city and my 5 year old sits right behind me and asks constant questions. Thus requiring me to take my mind off the traffic and road and answer her. It is a much different situation than a conversation because it is like a machine gun coming at you. I can hardly answer one question before she is bombarding me with the second and so forth. I ask her numerous time to have quiet time, but it does no good. Personally I think that is much worse than a cell phone (which I dont use while I am driving either.)
rorr: LOL
Speaking from experience, and the description of your daughter, it won't be too long before she discovers them anyway. Plus, it will keep her from bothering you!.

I hope the Odyssey styling is not radically changed as the Odyssey is still the most attractive minivan even though the design has been sold for 6 years now (5 model years).
I still can't switch to cloth though until I get a protector for my husband's seat. He's been known to spill coffee, soda, ice cream, big mac's..........you name it:)
lynnw and amc731 - so when you're in the car for more than 1.5 hours, what's the strategy you employ then?
OK -> if I had one of these things, maybe i'd be tempted (very) to go to the video or grocery store and pick up a DVD, and watch it in the peace and tranquility of the van, parked in the garage.
while we do have a VHS player, we have no DVD, no cable, no SAT, not even an antenna on the roof. sometimes, we can't even get a clear picture of certain local broadcast channel programming. ha.
rorr - you can get really misty now.
As for what we do after the 1 hour 1/2.......after 100 games of I spy, punch-buggy, "can you spell ....?", "do you know.....", "what's 100 X 15?", etc etc we also have to say "stop touching him" and "we're almost there" 1,000 times or so.
PS I am not trying to be negative about teens. It seems to be a human condition.
On the other hand, I might have to give up my internet banking. Just figured out I made a typo last week and sent Blockbuster $450.00 too much......so now, I either get my money back or we watch a whole bunch of movies!! (I swear, I'm not making that up!)
And my kids could say how rough they had it growing up riding in a VW Bug and then an unreliable Dodge van and later a plain Chevy van.
It would have been much nicer to have had a comfortable, reliable Odyssey when our kids were growing up.
Fortunately, 3 of my grandchildren have been able to ride in a comfortable Odyssey EX for 3 years now and 3 others have had a comfortable Grand Caravan Sport for 1 and 1/2 years.
When is the start up date for building the new 2005 Odysseys?
If the van has 90% of the rumored content posted here it going to be a hot seller for a while.
Please tell me I misread your post.
Does the GM Saab or the Ford Volvo offer NAV?
Plus the 9-3 gets a nav next year, but I forgot where I heard that. The S40 has an available NAV already. here's the breakdown:
Honda Odyssey EX-L NAV/RES
Saab 9-3
Volvo S40
what do you think?
Good luck with your search!
I put my name on a list with one of the sales people, who was the one who said that the price might me what the market will bear. Back in '99 Anderson sold the Odyssey at MSRP, but I could not get a commitment from this particular sales person that it would sell the 05 Odyssey at MSRP. If you have better luck, let us know.
I have seen the spy pictures and don't really like the front end...I hope the final production looks less like a Chysler than the spy pictures does....
Don't bet on Anderson Honda for MSRP. I bought my from them in 2001 for $1500 over MSRP. That wasn't bad considering AutoWest Honda in Fremont wanted to sell me one for $2500 over MSRP and said they were doing me a favor.
Anyway, other than the price, the buying experience with Anderson Honda wasn't bad.
The smartest way is as Toyota did with the Sienna. Offer 7-passneger and 8-passenger versions.
I got mine '99 from Anderson Honda while I placed orders at Stevens Creek and Hopkins. Anderson ask MSRP, Stevens Creek require some not expansive acceories and Hopkins request at least $500 options at MSRP. I always deal with Fleet dept not sales who try to sell you everything they could for max their commsion. I ordered in Sep. '98 to get those price. When I picked up my van in March '99, the price is $1500-$5000 over MSRP! DONOT GO TO Los Gatos Honda. They are teh greediest dealer and won't kept their promise. I first to order from them. When I placed deposit, they promised MSRP and won't force to buy anything (I guess they didn't know it will be such high demand!). When the van came (2nd one in the list) on late Oct, they installed leather ($3400!), Sun-roof ($2,500!) and request to add at least $1000 option they add on to the van. Of cause, those are dealer sourcing not OEM. I was questioning their promise and they said if you don't want it, there are more than 20 customers are waiting! The sale and manager just walked away with nose point to sky. I walked out the dealer right away. Later, I found out I am not the only one who was mistreat. One co-worker and his family had the same bad experience. Take my advise, steer off the Los Gatos Honda. Sorry for the long post.
I believe Capitol Honda is the largest Honda dealer in SF Bay Area. For one thing, their lot is huge. Anderson Honda is quite small by comparison.
That said, I am not sure a "volume dealer" would treat you any nicer when the vehicles are in high demand. During my quest for '01 Odyssey, I found Anderson to be fair and square. Others were like sharks waiting to take a bite at your wallet.
Let's face it, only dealers of luxury name brands would respect MSRP threshold and not go beyond that. Others are just free-market worshippers.
