I need my Ody 05 in October and am thinking of waiting a week and then putting my name in "The List". I do want to test drive before I buy. Also I hope the auto magazines come out with a review before I buy. My guess is Aug-Dec will be crazy at the dealership. Also think price will be inflated this year and will drop in Jan but I cant wait that long.

Well, here it is, 7/16/04. Is today the day for the information and or the one per dealer allocation of the new van???
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,495
We could tell you, but then Honda would have to shoot you.

Let's be real, why would any company wnat potential customers to know about their new products? They might want to buy them or something equally upsetting!

I am curious, tho. If the Subaru 7 seater gets stratospheric pricing I'll be cross shopping this with a (hopefully facelifted) Sienna.

We spend a lot of time on the highway so range is a biggie, and therefor mileage also.

In my family, even our Quest with it's mediocre mileage has a bigger range than the smaller bladders.

I actually do a lot of highway, so comfort is important, but I rarely do trips of much over 300 miles, so I can't remember the last time I got gas while on the road.

Where I live gas is priced like diamonds, approximately. $2.20 plus for regular now.

When I go to our condo at the beach, I've seen it for $1.70 or so.

So it would be nice to fill up there and have it last the week or two until we got back.

If we pull that off we save about 23% on fuel costs right there. Plus of course I'm shopping for an efficient vehicle to begin with.

Range should be good on the Odyssey if it gets 30 mpg on the highway. It may get low to mid thirties if driven at a moderate pace. Consumer Reports got the current Sienna at 30 mpg on the highway (65 mph) so that is pretty good as well. Sienna is EPA 27 vs. about 29 or 30 for the Odyssey(estimate using Hondas claim of 15-20% improvement).

I took a look at the Montana yesterday - it was $6,000 off and was loaded, so I couldn't resist (it also has the 3 passenger center row that I prefer). It gets pretty good mpg 26 EPA (better than current Odyssey), but the kicker is it has a 25 gallon gas tank - so range should be very good. I was a little dissapointed that the two center middle seats (center row and rear row) only had lap belts - also crash tests are not too good.

Right now it looks like the Sienna and new Ody are the front runners. We will see how pricing comes in one the Odyssey. I will probably wait until March so the prices can cool down. Of course if the Hybrid Sienna is around the corner at that point things could change.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
They are clearing those out so they can sell the new "Crossover Sport Vans". What a label!

The new Ody should bring Sienna prices down. But the real bargain now might be a left over current Ody.

Yes the leftover Odys are excellent deals. I got a price of high 25's for an EX with DVD. Unfortunately with 3 kids the vehicle does not work to well. Only 2 kids in the middle, and the rear seat is not split, so if we have the whole family in the van we only have the space behind the third seat for luggage. With 3 in the middle, or a split rear seat there is much more room for luggage.

Hondapreview.com has posted a link to College Hill Honda's allocation of the '05 Odyssey.

Why do I have a feeling this is going to cause a stampede?

I work at a dealer in Indiana, our website probably gets 1/100th of the hits hondapreview.com does and we have 22 Odyssey's coming in September. The way honda works is you get (in the future) what you sell

Sorry but I find that quite funny
  • wonderbreadwonderbread Member Posts: 13
to add they are only getting 6
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    DANG dudleyr, that's amazing.

My cousin paid that for her LX. And yes, she too has 3 kids and has the exact same problem - she has not folded that magic seat once.

I just pre-ordered my '05 Ody today. I got a receipt with it with a guarentee 100% money back refundable deposit. It's not one of the exact models that were on the collegehill website, but my dealer said I could get it by the end of September. Not many people ordered yet by me. My salesman said that it would change by September, and 3 would be ordered daily. I'm just waiting for pricing. I hope it's not much more than $31,000 for EX-L/DVD/NAV.
  • wonderbreadwonderbread Member Posts: 13
The 04 Ody Exl NAV, no RES is 30,980, I would think with Honda's going up about 300 a year, and the RES unit adding 1500 NOW, your gonna be about 33000, just an educated guess?!?!?!?!?!
  • listenerlistener Member Posts: 6
Just now coming back from honda dealer, put a deposit on EX-L/RES/DVD, just beause he was saying CVM engine will be available only on touring model and will cost $3000 more, I just don't want to try new technology, but is it TRUE ? If it is then what are the other features
    available for touring model ?
  • gjay1170gjay1170 Member Posts: 67
Thanks Wonderbread for the estimated price guess. It sounds right. Still, it's cheaper than the Sienna XLE with the 15 or so different packages. Really, the Sienna's packages are so confusing. Honda does have their trims, but they are specific and to the point what it involves. The Sienna XLE limited starts at $35,000, and when you add the extras, it can be over $40,000. Honda will never go that far.

I just called my local dealeer asking if they had any 05 ODY brochures and they said they will get them late august - early september.
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362

No thats all i got !!
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,495
Did anyone hear any info to surmise that there will be a unit on hand to look at or test drive before the customeer supply shows up on 9/21 or 9/22? Other makers have done this where they five each dealer one to play with and show to ramp up interest.

Someone posted this (im not gonna say where at):

Went to the dealer today. They still couldn't find the brochure with the paint colors on it. But they gave us a paper titled 2005 Odyssey, saying these were some of the features (this is exactly the way they are listed):

EXL and up = Moon Roof
    Navi/RES together
    17 cup holders
    3 zone auto climate control
    Back-up sensors standard (EX)
360 watt sound system w/sub woofer (EX)
    Adjustable pedals
    Power lift gate
Roll down windows in center doors
    Lazy susan
Rear seats will be a 60/40 split. Head rests will not need to be removed to fold down rear seat
    Antenna built into window
    Auto door lock @ 10mph
    New non-slosh fuel tank
    Active noise control
    Gear shift on dash
Olive interior (Me: just indicating new color choice?)
    XM radio
    250 hp

Again, I know most of this information is not new, (I hadn't heard about the XM radio or non-slosh fuel tank) but now, perhaps, it's slightly more confirmed since they handed us a paper with it listed on it. Granted, it's not an official Honda paper, but good to know anyway.

Oh, and they also said that the brochure they've been referring to isn't an actual brochure, but just a paper with the paint samples.

Looks like the EX and EXL will be 70% of 2005 Ody sales volume. Seems to hit the sweet spot in terms of must have features and probable price range (guess is similar to 2004 +$500).
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
i was surprised when i saw that back up sensors, ad the 360 watt audio system will be standard on EX models, that is already something better than Sienna!!!
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,495
I'll believe it has those features when I see it on the window sticker. Elsewhere it was posted that the touring added the deluxe climate control mand power liftgate. This list seems to imply that all models (even LX) have all these features.

  • samnoesamnoe Member Posts: 731
Yea, Sienna does not offer the backup sensors on any model but the Limited, together with the front sensors.

I think it's a big mistake. Leave the front sensors for the Limited, with the laser cruise as well. Most people won't need'em, but backup sensors for such a big van should definitely be available in lower trim models, too. All domestic minivans offer them in lower end models, as well.

So it's good to hear that the new Ody will have them from the EX model and up.

BTW, what is non-slosh fuel tank? (and, any idea of fuel tank capacity? regular or premium?)
  • saintsaint Member Posts: 4
Was wondering if a quote of 25,900 was a good price for a ody ex-l
  • mochisushimochisushi Member Posts: 126
One of the complaints that you hear about the Odyssey and Pilot is the "thump" that can be heard sometimes when coming to a stop. This is due to the fuel "sloshing" in the tank. I notice it in my Pilot when the tank is about 3/4 full. There is a very slight thump heard just after the car stops.
  • ac00lraac00lra Member Posts: 69
That would be excellent!!! Can't wait to see the active noise control in action. I believe this would be the first Honda with it, is it not? I don't even think the MDX has it? Anyone confirm? I have a feeling the 360-watt stereo system will be the exact same one as the one in the TSX. :-) That would be kewl! But how useful is the adjustable pedal? :-D
  • ac00lraac00lra Member Posts: 69
I can never hear that with my 01 Ody. We must a lot of folks with flawless hearing. :-P
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
Where would this go and what purpose would this serve in a minivan?
  • mochisushimochisushi Member Posts: 126
I have adjustable pedals on my Suburban and really like them. However, a telescoping steering wheel basically accomplishes the same thing.
  • mochisushimochisushi Member Posts: 126
The Lazy Susan is reportedly below the floor and will allow quite a bit of stuff to be hidden while using a smaller opening. It is also reportedly where the middle-second row seat can be folded (similar to stow-n-go).

thinking about a 2004 ex-l. Quoted 25,900. Anyone know if this is a good deal? Please someone respond

I recently became interested in the Odyssey since I found out they were coming out with a new model. Since then, I have read every post on here. My sister has an '03 EXL and it is very nice. I drove it for 10 days a couple of weeks ago and loved it. Only problem was road noise. I hope the '05 seriously reduces this problem. I see they have taken a stab at it, so I hope it is resolved. Personally I like the Quest and think for the options available and all the innovations it is a well thought out and manufactured van. There are some things about it that I am not crazy about, but there just wasnt anything else I really liked. My DH and I looked at the Sienna and both were diasappointed in how cheap the interior looked. Seemed to have a lot of cheap plastic inside. I like what I see in the spy photo of the '05 Odyssey and cant wait to see it up close and personal.

I have one question though. How come everyone seems to be getting all hot and bothered about it and putting in orders for a van sight unseen? I understand brand loyalty, but doesnt the waiting list game only serve to make Honda keep firm on pricing before anyone can even purchase one? I certainly hope that in my area people have bought enough Sienna's recently that there will be little to no interest in this new model so that the pricing can stay at MSRP or hopefully below. Does anyone else feel this way or am I alone in this?

I have seen official 2005 Honda color chart.

Carryover colors for 2005 Odyssey are:
    redrock pearl
    sage brush pearl
    taffeta white
    nighthawk black pearl
    midnight blue pearl

    New colors:
Desert rock metallic (similar to old sandstone metallic)
silver pearl metallic (bit darker than starlight silver)
ocean mist metallic (a new medium blue)
slate green metallic (darker than old havasu blue)

    Other tidbits

    DVD screen = 9 inches

    Touring model adds
    power tailgate
    driver seat memory
    auto dimming mirrors
    tri-zone climate control
    auto on/off headlights
    premium audio
"and much, much more" per honda

Not sure what model regarding the following:
    sunshades on second row windows
    surround sound

GM of dealer where I pre-ordered last spring wanted to get my preferences before he places his order. He actually asked me for my general preferences- felt like I was maybe helping him plan his initial allocation- what fun!

Has anyone heard if the 'Blue Tooth Tech' will be offered on 2005 minivan model. Acura came out with this 'hands free' phone usage this year and it's a great feature.

That is an awesome deal considering it is under invoice. The invoice price of a 2004 EXL is $26,122.08. That includes the destination charge. I hope I can find a deal like that if we decide to get a 2004 rather than spending a few thousand more on a 2005. You know you will have to pay MSRP on a new one for sure.
  • bamatternbamattern Member Posts: 4
Has anyone gotten info on what a new model will cost that is similar to the present EX model?
  • amc731amc731 Member Posts: 42
If the new Odyssey is everything we're hoping it is, with or without a waiting list, it will be in high demand. The only difference is, those of us on the waiting list will be assured of getting one sooner rather than later. I'm on the list, it's already been established that I will not be paying MSRP and, if after seeing the Odyssey I determine it's not worth the $, I'm simply refunded my deposit. Thus far with Honda, you get alot for your money, and I'm simply hoping that doesn't change. We're at the end of our lease and can extend it for 6 months....so that puts us in a position to wait and see what Honda comes up with and then go from there.
  • samnoesamnoe Member Posts: 731
I also have power adjustable pedals on my Windstar, and I think it's even better than telescoping steering wheel - unless you get a powered one. (I rented a Focus several times with the telescoping steering wheel feature, so I know the difference).

With the power adjustable pedals you can adjust the pedals more precisely than non-power. If you have power telescoping steering wheel (which you'll find in high luxury vehicles only) you can compare it to power adjustable pedals, but if you have a choice of regular telescoping steering wheel and power adjustable pedals, get the power adjustable pedals. It's much easier to adjust at any time by just pushing a button.

I'm on the waiting list too. We don't have to pay MSRP? Really? I sure hope so. I just waiting too as a lot of you to see if we're going to like it or not. My lease ends next month and we've already put on the extension. If I am disapointed, then I'll get the '04. I will not buy a Sienna. Honda offer so much for the money, and Toyota doesn't. I met someone who has the Sienna limited with AWD and she paid $42,000. I could get the same thing leather, dvd, navi, sunroof, except AWD for probably $33,000 more or less. I'm just following the posts on Edmunds and Odyclub, and hoping to get new info soon.

05 EX L will come in around 30k MSRP. If you folow Honda's pricing model they typically increase between $350 and $800 each model year. I am sure an EX L will come in under 31K.
  • 65times65times Member Posts: 20
Yes, in leather there is tan, grey and olive. I cannot remember if black is being offered this year or not.
