Those are the stock wheels off an E46 330i... They are 17 X 7, and use 205/50-17 tires... That would be a great winter set-up...

I don't share your view of them aesthetically, though... Yuck..lol.

    Style 119s off the '04 325i sport package (17 X 8) would be my first choice.. then style 96 ('03 325i sport) or style 44 ('01-'02 325i sport).. All of those are 17 X 8 and take 225/45-17....

I think we are out of luck since it appears Buulu is a Canadian living in the USA.

I myself would like to know what deals there are in Toronto.
  • erickplerickpl Member Posts: 2,735
No offense taken. For the xi, I like how they look. I have always preferred Shipo's Type 42's or simple 5 spoke type wheels, but these I actually like for some reason. They look better on than sitting by themselves with a white background. :)

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. :)

So how hard do you guys think it would be to find a new 3, sports packg. Black on Black, with nothing else!? Prollie jus through an order but I might get everything base and add aftermarket rims. YEAH I KNOW other BMW rims look nice but some 19 or 20' chromes would look pimp. Will anything bigger than 18's fit? Cuz I cant roll on lil shoes like that. Well I dont wanna order cuz Im hoping to negiote with the dealer, they might negotiate with an order (they did for when my dad was getting a new 5) They might once they know this isnt my top choice, well 1 of 2. Anyway, do you guys know if adding bigger rims will violate the warranty in any way?? The salesman said no, as long as they fit...
  • shiposhipo Member Posts: 9,148
Dealers will negotiate deals on ordered cars just like they will if the car is on the lot. I've done it many times and I've never had a problem matching the price of the "I only buy on the last day of the month" crowd.

As for 19" and 20" wheels fitting on an E90; yes, they will fit and no, they will not void the warranty. Having said that, I'm having a difficult time understanding why you would want to. Looks? Bling, bling?

Adding larger wheels with tires that amount to little more than rim protectors (if that) don't do much for the driving dymanics or the longevity of the componentry of the car though. By that I mean that at any given level of quality, the 19" and 20" set will weigh incrementally more than the 17" or 18" set you will be replacing them with. What that extra unsprung weight translates into is more stress and wear on the brakes and suspension components, shortening their life and hurting performance. Added to those two undesirable side-effects you have potentially shorter tire and wheel life due to road hazards as common as a railroad crossing or even a stray rock of reasonable size.

I ran some wheel size problems.

    Size Overall Diameter

    205 /55/ 16 is 24.9 to 25 in's

    225 /45/ 17 is 25 in's

    225/ 40/ 18 is 25 in's

Look's to me that 25 in's is the max for overall diameter!!
    Hope this helps someone.
  • erickplerickpl Member Posts: 2,735
you might want to consider a bigger vehicle. 20's on a 3er might look like a Hot Wheel, just a bit out of proportion.

Get with the program, Shipo! Haven't you heard?
"It is better to look good than to drive good..."
  • shiposhipo Member Posts: 9,148
If you look at any of the BMW cars produced in recent years that had an array of wheel and tire sizes, you will find that in every case, the overall diameter stayed within some very small range. I'll use the various tire sizes offered on the recently departed E39 5-Series as an example:

    225/60 R15 -- 25.9" diameter
    225/55 R16 -- 25.7" diameter
    235/45 R17 -- 25.2" diameter
    255/40 R17 -- 25.1" diameter
    245/40 R18 -- 25.9" diameter
    275/35 R18 -- 25.8" diameter

Interestingly enough, the two tires with the largest overall diameter were the ones that fit on the 15" wheels of the lowly 520i and those that were mounted on the 18" wheels of the bad boy of the group, the M5.

Oh geez, I guess my slip is showing again. ;-)

I suppose that if I wanted to be "All-Show" and "No-Go", errr, well, "Lots of Go in a Straight Line", I'd get a 300C SRT-8. Hey! It even comes with 20" wheels! :shades:

    Hi,

i hear that the comfort access feature will be available in September. If i get the car now, will I be able to install it later? Anyone know about this?

ps- comfort access is the one that allows you turn your engine on just by having the key on you and not necessarily in the dash like it is now.

    Thanks

I think 225/45-17 tires will fit on 7" wide wheels--might have a bulge to it, but would also provide extra curb protection. From the sound of it, the E46 wheels may not work anyway.

You probably wouldn't like the wheels my mom has on her S80:
    image

The standard wheels for that year looked as if they were designed to look like hubcaps, however:

What is the discount we can ask on 2006 3 series models? Can I get 5% off on MSRP?
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,365
It may be possible, but it will probably involve a computer reprogram by the BMW dealer ($$$), plus installation of the receiver hardware in the car, plus replacement of the car keys (I assume the regular keys do not include Comfort Access transponders). I would hazard a guess that replacing a single key alone is probably around $200...

Nearly anything is possible, there are people with 5-series that put the European dashboard in, and people with Jettas and Golfs that put the Euro gauge cluster in, it's just a matter of what you're willing to spend, but if you are dead set on having the Comfort access, you need to order it from the factory.

Can I get 5% discount on MSRP on 2006 3 series?
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,365
    bsureshr,

Please stop hitting "refresh" after you have posted a message. It reposts the message again. If you shop around, you can find a dealer willing to give you a discount on a 2006 3-series. I do not know what a 5% MSRP discount equates to, but it appears that they are available in some regions for $1000-$1500 over invoice, at the right dealer.
  • shiposhipo Member Posts: 9,148
That sounds high, but until you shop around in your area, you'll never know.

For what it's worth, most folks shopping for a BMW look for an "Invoice Plus" deal, as in $1,500 over invoice. That effectively makes the MSRP irrelevant.

I did ask the dealership this question and they didn't know. They said it was possible since BMW had given them upgrade kits for things more complex than that in the past.

At best, assuming the little key gizmo communicates with the car over the already installed Bluetooth (and I have no idea if it would or not), it's a reprogram and key replacement.

It sucks because the Infiniti G35 has it already :)

You amuse me shipo, thanks for your help. Yeah I think I'll need to order, I will negotiate, if they want to if not there's plenty of other dealerships in SoCal right??
And yeah, I like nice shoes so yeah, the rims would be about looks, superficial touches. So they will fit, good, and yeah, the known 'side effects' Thats the COST OF BLING for yah, no.... haha. Well 20s no cuz it prollie would look like a Hot Wheel! At least 19's tho cuz if not, I might as well stick with the SportsPackg. Simply put, it would be hope-filled attempt to extenuate the 'wrechtedness' haha, of the unfortunate fact that I can't roll in the 5 Series!! Not a brand new one at least. Plus I need power, the 525i doesn't provide that. So do any of you have BMW's with nice-sized rims, if so, how has that effected/affected your driving experience?

"So do any of you have BMW's with nice-sized rims..."

Hehe. Yeah, I had the BMW Type 42 Two-Piece wheels on my 530i. They were 17x8" in size and they were VERY NICE. I only wish I could fit a set on a new E90 330i SP, unfortunately I just don't think they will fit properly. :(

Actually you can turn the engine on now without the FOB in the dash. You just cannot unlock and lock the vehicle. I test drove an E90 330 and placed the FOB on the center armrest while I checked out the stereo. I pushed the engine start/stop button and the 330 started without the FOB in the slot. A lot of sales people do not know this.
  • nab2nab2 Member Posts: 18
Then why do they have a slot for it?

That's great news if it's true, it means I don't need comfort access! I don't mind reaching into my pocket and pressing a button to unlock the doors, but I do mind taking out a huge keyring and plugging it in so it can jangle all the way home...
  • skimoskimo Member Posts: 23
Ok.. we need to verify this. It could be that the 330 that fedman98 drove was of a "newer release" than the ones in stock. OR maybe its on the 330 but not the 325 ?? hmmm

Also, in the current models, I do not need to push a button to open the doors correct? But I have to plug in the key into a slot to start the engine (this is what we will have to verify)

    thanks skimo

I have an idea for the technocrazy automakers-make a key which will fit in a slot which requires a little turn after it is inserted in the slot to engage the engine.
  • jayellesevenjayelleseven Member Posts: 150
YES, haha that would be fabulous. You know whats better tho', Remote Keyless Igntion or Remote Start, whatever you all wanna call it. That would jus be tight, the engine reving up. I know there aftermarket kits for like any car but BMW shoulda had it standard with the new 3. A salesman told me that wouldn't be available till next fall or next year! I think the 05 G35's have it, not sure about the Coupes (dammit)

So much for Comfort Access, now if only the car would park itself!
  • blueguydotcomblueguydotcom Member Posts: 6,249
September/October Comfort Access is supposed to be available for 3 series cars.

As for parking itself, Toyota's Prius (and I believe Yaris) has this an option in Japan.
  • sedmundsedmund Member Posts: 93
When I checked out the 2005 G35 sedan beginning of this year, it didn't have the remote starter. It only had the keyless go (if you just have the remote on you, you can press a button on the door handle to unlock it and enter the car and just start it).
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,365
The little black buttons on the door handles of the Lexi and Toyotas that have it look hideous, IMO. I think Mercedes has a system where they're better hidden. I hope BMW goes this route.
  • chasscplatzchasscplatz Member Posts: 15
I got a call from my dealer today about programming my 330 when it comes in. He asked the same questions he has asked for my last 3 BMW's...1 push on the "key" opens the drivers door...the 2nd push opens all the doors.

Comfort access is not part of this release.

is it possible to get 3 series without sunroof? I've seen pictures without one but the website says its standard? maybe it was european but could it be possible to bring one in?
  • shiposhipo Member Posts: 9,148
For the U.S. market, the moonroof became standard equipment a couple of years ago. That "Standard" has apparently been carried over to the new model.

  • div2div2 Member Posts: 2,580
When I ordered my Club Sport the sunroof was an option. AG told my salesperson that they had decided to build all 300 cars with a hole in the roof-thus adding an extra $1200 to the price.Yuck! My salesperson really went to bat for me(as well as another customer) and my car was delivered with no sunroof. There are probably fewer than five Club Sports in the US built to that spec :D
As for the 300 SRT, The June C/D reports that the car has brakes and handling to match the 425 bhp. A 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds is very quick-especially considering that it's a 4200 lb. sled with a slushbox. I may have to get a Magnum SRT for my commuter sled-Banana Yellow please, and hold the moonroof and roof rack. I'd have to take it a drivers school just once; I wonder how much those 20" gumballs cost? :P
  • psyranpsyran Member Posts: 30
If your doing ED you may be able to get $10000 to $1500 over ED invoice, but VERY doubtful you will get anything close to that on a regular in States purchase from the BMW dealer. The most I have heard is $500 to maybe a $1000 less than MSRP. If you want more wait about 3 months or so.

"I may have to get a Magnum SRT for my commuter sled-Banana Yellow please..."

Hmmm, a Banana Yellow Magnum SRT? Too cool. :shades:

Hmmm (again), how about this for your next set of rides:

Get the Banana SRT, stick a hitch on it, buy a nice trailer and then use that rig to tow your M1 around to various events (track an otherwise). My brother lives about six blocks from the central focal point of the Dream Cruise in Royal Oak, MI, and I'm sure that both of those rides would attract a crowd along Woodward Ave. ;-)

A few years ago when Mrs. Shipo and I packed the kids off to Royal Oak for a long weekend of cars, tall tales and imbibing, I begged my (then) neighbor if I could tow his very cherry 1963 Split Window (with only 22,000 on the clock) to the Dream Cruise with me, and he almost said yes. That wouldn't have had quite the impact of a Magunm SRT/M1 combo, but it would have been nice nonetheless. ;-)

Hmm I could care less also about "comfort access" but "comfort start" I could go for..I will have to go back and re try that. When I returned from my road test on my own, I was like umm how do I get this back out ? Then a simple push popped it back out. Too many steps for me.

Based on early Euro photos I thought the sunroof would be a option on the new 3 Series, it was not until I read the full brochure that I got at the dealer the other day that I became aware that the it was included in the car I ordered. Needless to say, I and my daughter were pleasantly surprised. I guess I did not know as much about the 2006 3 Series as I thought. :confuse:

My wife is about ready to revoke my Town Hall access-something about me picking up too many expensive ideas... ;)
How about a Yellow Magnum, a Henna M1, and a red K1 for my pit bike. Yowza! :shades:
  • planomlplanoml Member Posts: 244
That's interesting, because I had a different experience. I tried to start the car without the FOB in the dash, & it wouldn't. Placing the FOB in the dash results in some sought of locking mechanism.

appreciate the "heads up." I can buy the car at 4-1/2%, I don't know why BMW is keeping the lease rates so high.

Anyway, there's a chance I'll have my car tomorrow! They JUST got it on the lot, and my dealer said it looks s-w-e-e-t. Got the Terra/Black leather.
