    2016 Acura MDX AWD
    Advance with Entertainment

Invoice price charged before taxes, plate and accessories $54,785 (Dealer had added $300 within this for the cost of bringing in the car of our color choice from another state).

Added all weather mats, splash guards and bumper protector and paid discounted rate. Additional cost was standard state tax plus $40 for plate transfer and documentation.

Bought from Fox Acura (MI). Good sales customer ervice.

Unfortunately in the second week there was slight sound on the strut which they are changing on warranty.

Here's what I was offered in Costa Mesa, CA:

I think the sales guy said MSRP was 50,012 but I forgot to look at the sticker price.

    2016 MDX AWD W/Tech $46k before taxes/plates
The only one on the lot with AWD and Tech package (White on Parchment), rest were all FWD.

Or they can get any color I wanted for $46.4K. They were trying to push me to get Advanced package but I told them I didn't need all the extra stuff. I did inquire about parking sensors and he said they can install it onto the Tech package, is this true? I saw his price sheet of 987 for the sensors, he stated he can offer roughly 50% off parts and not sure how much install labor costs.

I'm ready to pay the $46.4K for color of my choice with a couple hundred extra for the parking sensors. Anyone know if this is doable with dealer installation?

    Thanks

I received a quote of $43,210 on a 2016 FWD MDW w/Tech package. $180 documentation fee and tax, title, and license. I shopped all over my state and this was the best quote by far. It was surprisingly easy; took less than 10 minutes "chatting" online with the dealer. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that it's almost the end of the month. $5k off is pretty darn good. The dealers weren't even knocking that much off of their 2015's that they still had in stock.

Congrats, I've been hearing whispers about buying with the chat links on dealer websites. Nice to see that you can actually negotiate that way (as opposed to the chat just being a way to try to get you to come in and get the hard sell).

2.9% up to 60 months from Acura Finance. Dealers are likely to try and markup that rate for extra profit.

Living Hinge Cargo Tray, All Weather floor mats $950 + Tax, Fees, Tag &Tittle $2870 = OTD $45,820

Model Bought: Acura MDX 2016 SH-AWD base model (i.e. No Tech/Advanced/Entertainment package)
    Dealer: Acura of Escondido
    When: Aug 23, 2015
Replaced my 15 year old 2001 Acura MDX, 136k miles that was totaled in an accident recently. My new MDX was priced as follows:
    1. MSRP: $44865.00
    2. Destination: $920
    3. Acura Protection Package II ($595) including following items:
    - All weather floor mat for Row 1 & 2
    - Hinged Cargo Tray that accommodates 3rd row seats (without the need to take it off)
    - Wheel locks
    - (Acura website shows MSRP: $356):

    Above 3 items totaled $46, 380
    ---------
Vehicle Price negotiated $42,000 including the Protection Package II ($4,380 below MSRP)
    ----------
Invoice price claimed was about $42800. Costco pricing claimed was about $43,100.
Additional Accessories purchased: $473. (Splash guards MSRP $138, Rear Bumper Protector MSRP $208, Installation)
    Doc fee: $80
    Sales Tax (8%): $3404
    Title/Registration fee: $396
    ==============
    Total out-the-door: $46,354
    ==============

Tip: Know exactly what you want before you go to dealer (in terms of exact model and accessories. Take a printout of accessories listing MSRP from Acura website. This way you would know how much installation the dealer is charging for any given accessory (See my note in PS below).

Dealer Experience: Sales staff was good to deal with. They appeared willing to make sale (who isn't) and did not try to up sell me another car with more packages. Took less than two hours to check our the cars, test drive and negotiate the price. The finance staff was a bit pushy trying to sell their protective paint, maintenance plans etc. Felt weary trying to counter their point about how useful the plans/packages are. Wasted about 30-45 mins needlessly discussing something that I knew I did not want going in.

PS: My only gripe is the installation charges that were paid for installing wheel locks, splash guards and bumper protector. The MSRP for all the accessories stated at acura website is about $700 while the price quoted ($595 for protection package and $473 for splash guard+bumper protector) totals about $1070. A $370 installation charge seems exorbitant. I could only figure out these minute details after getting the car. Ideally I would have tried to negotiate on the accessory MSRP+Installation and offered $200 less overall.

    Nice post, thanks and congrats!

Curious about your 15 year old MDX - bummer about the wreck, did you get any compensation from insurance on it? I had dropped collision on my old van when it hit 10 or 12.
  • huskyfan2huskyfan2 Member Posts: 11
    Please include:
    1. MDX FWD tech (no watch) 2016 Burgundy, 16miles
    2. Splashguards (add $175)
    3. Total cost breakdown (base price=$44,400, fee-$525, taxes-3%, tag-$69). I declined all other options (extended warranty, fabric protection, gap insurance, etc).
    4. Dealer info/location-Crown in Greensboro
    5. Buying experience-very easy to work with, they really wanted the sale and had the car transported across the state same day.
    6. Any tips you have to offer- 1) Know your credit score, chx rates and negotiate this down. I got 2.25% APR with excellent credit, probably could have got lower, but I got tired and gave in; 2) know the MSRP on accessories (listed on Acura web site), dealer should be no higher, and probably lower than this on items not needing installation (mats, etc)

    Congrats, @huskyfan2!

Funny to see posts now where getting a watch (iWatch?) can be part of the accessory package.
  • huskyfan2huskyfan2 Member Posts: 11
My comment regarding "watch" refers to the "AccuraWatch" option with Tech package, basically gives you adaptive cruise control. If it was an iWatch I would have taken them up on the offer.

How can you find out what manufacturer rebates and dealer holdbacks are in effect for Acura MDX SH-AWD sales in Massachusetts in October?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Try our Incentives and Rebates page.

Holdback is 2% of the Base MSRP and rarely varies.

There are also manufacturer to dealer rebates that we don't report, and other spiffs and bonuses that are really hard to find out about.

I received a quote in Colorado on a 2016 SH-AWD Base of $43,059 (6% off MSRP). After taxes and fees the net sales price is $45,297. Purchase w/$15,000 down @ 2.9% = $543.70/month vs. Lease for 36 months/10,000 miles with 62% residual and MF of .00095 = $526.47/month. Seems likes that's the best price I'm going to get - any thoughts? Has anyone gone to the dealership and used the negotiated base price to get a higher model at the same price?

Has anyone gone to the dealership and used the negotiated base price to get a higher model at the same price?

Still shopping? That idea could work, perhaps with a bit of extra cash thrown in.

Okay, another tactic. Honda/Acura is in a mess with the Takata airbags and more recalls may be likely (a few '16 CR-Vs have got caught up in it). And Takata may just go bankrupt at this point.

So your tactic would be to tell the salesperson that since Honda/Acura is changing airbag suppliers, you're not sure if you should buy now or wait until the new supplier airbags get installed from the factory. Then hint that you really need a car now and will have to go look at Audis (don't mention the VW emissions stuff, lol).

  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
@glennmet, you're just under the invoice price of $46,768 (including destination) and well under TMV which is $47,490. Your savings paid for your racks. :)

    Congrats!

Your quote is a bit below average.

That's for State College. You may need to "go south" a bit for other quotes. PA isn't known for especially aggressive car deals, like, say, the MD/DC area.
  • osuart2002osuart2002 Member Posts: 6
thanks - whats the thought on inception fees and holdback. my deal still has about $1k of fees in it and the holdback is still out there at 2%. just unsure if i can get more or just let it be the end of the road?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Well, you may be able to wring out some more bucks if you want to wait until year end (assuming the dealer needs some more sales to earn some bonus money). Dealers hate holdback talk but you can roll it into your out the door price (along with the fees) and deal with it that way. If they balk too much, then casually mention that you included that money into your calculations.
