Exactly my point ivan_99. I know GM tried the cylinder deactivation technology years ago and it failed miserably (reports of the deactivated cylinders not firing back up). Up until now, I haven't seen an automaker deploy this technology successfully so that is why I said I would hold out. I hope Honda is successful with this technology, but we all know they're not perfect (V6 transmissions)
RDX is as ugly as a Prius is a hatchback. Who would have ever thought that the hottest seller in N. America would be a hatchback. The RDX is as ugly as the MINI is small. Who would think that Mini could succed in the "Land of the Giant SUV"
The above facts indicates that there are quite a number of people who care more for high mileage/performance/technology/handling than just a pretty face(exterior styling or dimensions).
Anyone who looks at the third row seat in the MDX and thinks they can comfortably fit two adults into that space is delusional. It is for two children or for very short durations.
This isn't necessarily a probem - just something you should keep in mind when signing up for the carpool.
The Pilot has slightly more same space with three seat belts. Three adults don't fit. At all. Stop imagining it.
Three kids fit if they're good friends or if the movie on the entertainment system is really good.
I would expect dual climate control to make an appearance in the next gen. I am looking forward to seeing an updated cabin as well. While the current one (which I have) is nice, after seeing the changes to the new Odyssey, I think the MDX could use a revamped interior. I would also LOVE to see a skyroof option on the next X too!
I purchased MDX 2004. I find that the DVD player installed on MDX does not play Recorded formats like DVD-R or +R and DVD-RW Any one has tried this? On research I found that DVD player is made by Panasonic. Trying to get information from Acura Technical was frustrating. It seems no one in Acura know what are the DVD specifications. If any one has the information will help
Touring Package-equipped models now feature high quality ebony-colored Zebra wood pattern on the center console and door switches and refined satin chrome accents. 2006 enhancements include:
-Ebony-colored Zebra wood-patterned trim on center console and door switch replaces Burl Wood-patterned trim on models equipped with Touring Package.
-Satin chrome replaces bright chrome interior accents on models equipped with Touring Package.
-New color: Amazon Green Metallic.
New horsepower/torque ratings: 253 horsepower SAE net (Rev 8/04) @ 5800 rpm, 250 lbs-ft. of torque SAE net (Rev 8/04) at 3500 rpm
(New Rating System, Same Engine, Same Performance)
Do any of you have details on 2006 model of MDX? what are the new features? Did Acura implement the variable valve feature, and what is the new mileage?
Does anyone know where one could see a picture of the new type of interior trim? Is it really black? Does that make the interior look monochromatic when paired with the black leather seats?
I just got into a lease w/ my MDX for 3 yrs. after speaking to some of the mechanics, service people, and WEB research the word isn't much for 2006; however, 2007-8 will be a year of change for the MDX (just in time). the current push will probably be on its lesser predocesor the R-DX. smaller yet sportier (check the link for sneak photos - http://www.auto123.com/en/info/news/news,view.spy?artid=48830&pg=1 ). If I had my choice, instead of the RL engine, I would prefer the rumored supercar hybrid engine prototype. this engine is a V6 300HP paired with a 110 HP electric; total combined power of 400 HP @ 30+ mpg. But maybe I'm just dreaming; the RL engine would more than enough for me.
I got a better quote for a MDX premium for $38,600. I'm still not sure if this is still overpriced. Someone please respond. I need to get a car by the end of today. Thanx!

I am in the market to buy a MDX or like SUV. I noticed a MDX parked next to a Pilot at work and couldn't help notice the similarity. They have different sheet medal, but the windshield, side mirrors, front windows, dash, steering wheel, and many other things are the same. Besides exterior looks what warrants paying 8K more for the MDX. Is it really that much better?
I have long wondered that myself, you pay more for the acura name, that is for sure. They are a corporate pair... basically. If you have the cash, go for the acura, if you want a very simmilar thing at a better price, pick the honda. Do you like the ridgeline?
I have been wondering all these times on is MDX solely preferred by Females or it is driven by Males also. Is it 50-50. Out of 5 MDXs on the road that I see, only one is driven by a Male. I just dont want to end up driving a vehicle that females prefer to drive. I hope MDX is not like Lexus RX300. Your opinion please.
I'm a guy and I chose the MDX for a number of reasons. Aside from the reliabilty, safety, value for money, best NAV system in the industry and performance, one of them was that the MDX is decidedly more a guy car than the RX330. Just drive them both. The RX330 is luxurious and cushy, handles like a boat and comes in all those metalic pastel colors while the MDX has sporty agile handling, excellent road feedback, damn fast for this kind of vehicle and agressively styled front grill. If you really want to get macho check out the Hummer H3. Its in the same price range when loaded. However, I think you'll be happier in an MDX.
I was about to buy a 2006 MDX when the car salesman said that if I could than I should wait because Acura is releasing a total redesigned 2007 MDX in the spring of 2006 (ahead of a fall schedule). Is this true?
The more I research this, the more I think he was confusing the MDX with the RD-X.
I loved test driving the MDX (over my top choices of Volvo's VC90 and Mercedes R-350), but I don't need it right away - so I can wait until the spring...My big issue is a third row (which is not in the RDX model).
Redesigned MDX wont hit the market in the spring of 2006. It will only be in the Fall of 06. He is talking about the RDX. And I think , the 2007 MDX will be delayed most likely and will appear sometime in the spring of 2008. Just my guess.
I am going over the same info and actually tested them right behind one another. You can get a pilot with nav and dealer installed dvd for a base mdx. and in all honesty there are things about the interior of the pilot i like more than the mdx. iwas wondering if anyone agreed with me?
I like the center stack in the Pilot. The "3-dial" radio controls in particular. But there are a number of plastic bits here and there in the cockpit which just aren't up to the same standards as the MDX.
I too am comparing MDX vs. Pilot. I currently drive an 02 MDX and like it very much except for road noise above 60 mph. Does anyone know if the 06 Pilot is quieter. Has Acura/Honda done anything to improve road noise since 02? My wife has an 05 Odyssey that is quieter than my MDX. I think the 06 pilot looks better than the 06 MDX. I'm shocked at the primitive gauges in the MDX compared to the Odyssey that haven't changed since 02. I would like to get blue tooth and a DVD/Nav system, not options on the Pilot, but other than that like the Pilot a lot better.
I drove the 06 Pilot and it wasn't bad. It had a smooth but boat like handling to it. Compared to the MDX, handling and driving was night and day. That was one of the things that made up my mind to get the MDX. Another was when I took the Pilot on the freeway. The road noise from the tires was thunder compared to the MDX. However, the MDX is not totally quiet in this respect. Later MDX's have added sound insulation and thicker glass. This is part of what you pay for. Drive an 05 or 06 MDX and compare to your 02. You should see a significant difference.
Since the Acura definitely wasn't redesigned for 05/06, we'll close this discussion. I hope that a member will open a new topic about the MDX redesign as more info becomes available. Thanks!

Well, since the MDX is now on the list for '08, we'll open this back up for discussion!

Saw the new "concept" MDX at the N.Y. auto show. Great lines. There was nothing to see inside.. The windows were darkened and the doors closed. According to the brochure that they gave out at the show, the concept is a "HINT" of what the vehicle should look like. They have more pictures at www.acura.com .Does anybody have any inside information about the car ( specs, engine, etc ) or when it might be coming out for sale. It would be great if the engine would be one that could run on regular gas. With 4 to 5 dollars a gallon in the future, it may be the little edge that may make one choose between similar type cars.
This fall we're going to replace our fifth(!) awd minivan with a smaller suv. The new MDX looks like it'll have 7 seats, hid headlights and Acura quality. The new Lincoln MKX (a clone of the upcoming Ford Edge) has five seats but a new 3.5 engine, six-speed auto trans, huge skylight option, heated and cooled seats and...questionable first-year quality issues. It'll be interesting to compare these two vehicles. Anyone have any insights or comments?
When we get official word, sure - for now, we've got it listed as an '08, so we'll leave it til we have a press release or something definitive.

I am told the all new MDX will be a 2008 model coming out mid year 2007. It will be very different and much more expensive to keep up with Mercedes, BMW & Porcsh. The model coming out this June / July will be the 2007 RDX which is a 5 passenger SUV equivelent to the BMW X3
2007 RDX in June/July 2007 MDX in Fall (I'm assuming October)
Acura isn't waiting until mid-2007 to redesign MDX. That would put the MDX in market, without redesign, for 7 years! (current version was launched in Spring 2000 as a 2001 model).
The MDX coming out in October 2006 will be a 2007 model year SUV. It will be the same vehicle as the 2006 model with some very minor changes. The new redesign MDX will be a 2008 model year that may come out in early to mid 2007. See enclosed link.
Edmunds is wrong, period. MY2007 available fall 2006 will be a total redesign, based on the NY show concept.

"The 2007 MDX will speak clearly to the advanced image of Acura and promises to put MDX solidly at the front of the pack with a striking new image, new technology and performance unmatched in the segment," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The designers and engineers working on this new MDX have a tremendous passion for this product that will be evident in all aspects of its design and performance."
No sense arguing the point in the Forums - best way to get an answer on the discrepancy is to contact our Future Vehicles team, which you can do using the "help" link at the left.

We just bought our MDX '06 w/ Touring package + running board + wind visor + lifetime oil change = $39,500 (OTD) from a dealer in VA.
