MSRP = $45,708
Invoice = $39,949.
My quote was $43,000 + TTL. Didn't buy it.
I am beginning negotiation on a white 2004 RX330 that is loaded, dvd system, navigation, rear camera leather seats, heated seats, xenon lights, etc. All the things my wife doesn't really need
The car has 12,800 miles and appears to be in excellent condition. The vehicle is a trade in and the dealership sticker price is $39,900. Edmunds prices the car at Dealer Retail: $39,002, Private Party: $35,705 and Trade In: $34,168.
My question is: What should my initial offer be? Any additional insight would be valuable. I don't have much experience in this arena.
Bill
What I would do is go into the dealership armed with the price I could get a brand new 2005 for. Then negotiate a purchase price on the 2004 model factoring in it's an older model with 12k miles. Take a look at this web site and click the "specials" link to see some pre-negotiated prices on similarly equipped vehicles. Maybe you can use this as an example of what you can get a 2005 for and establish that a used 2004 should be quite a bit less expensive than a brand new 2005. $39k doesn't seem like a good price to me.
FYI....I got an initial quote on a 2006 AWD with Nav, 18" wheels, Premium pkg plus, HID's, heated seats/rain sensing wipers for $43,000. That's only $4,000 more than they are quoting you on your 2004. Hope this helps.
How big has demand been? When we arrived at the dealership to pick up the RX, several people were gathered around our RX wanting to see it (of course they couldn't). The dealer, which is the leading Lexus volume dealer in the area, had only 3 RXs available on the lot -- only one of which was AWD. Lots of everything else, including the hot GS models.
I like everything you're doing except the Levinson. I guess the issue is how important sound system is to you. The standard system is not at all shabby, in fact it is quite good and over $1000 less (I think).
Other than that, I think your "specs" are excellent and you should be very happy with your RX. In Chicago, you'll love the heated seats. We live in San Diego and have same w/o the Levinson and with 18" wheels. Having lived in Chicago, I would recommend staying with the 17" wheels because they are better for bad weather conditions (with all season tires).
In case you haven't already found this out, go to the Lexus site to find out what packages are commonly available in your area. If you want a combination that is NOT shown there, it will be (at best) a long wait.
Good luck.

Please tell me what you think. That's about $2500 over invoice. Do I need to be more aggressive, and if so, by how much?
From the Lexus site:
Historically, vehicle manufacturers and distributors have charged a separate fee for processing, handling and delivering vehicles to dealerships. Lexus' charge for these services is called the "delivery, processing and handling fee" and is based on the value of the processing, handling and delivery services Lexus provides, as well as Lexus' overall pricing structure. Lexus may make a profit on the delivery, processing and handling fee.
i would be only be charged (aside from plates and inspection):
tire tax ($12.50)
processing ($45)
Where are the dealers that are offering $1500 over invoice?
I am interested in buying the same package.Did u pay 41990 with taxes or without.
Also which dealership did you go to?
Thanks.
I just got a 2006 RX330 brochure and there are some new options...air suspension, sequential gear transmission (you can manually change gears), and adaptive cruise control. When i choose to build a new RX330 either on the lexus website, or on the dealers website, there are only two packages available and these new options are not listed for the 2006 model. Does anyone know if these options are delayed for 2006? (I live in the New York Metro area) Thanks.
How was the experience dealing with Ray Catena? They just contacted me with the referral from Edmunds.com I am looking to lease the car and want to get a good sales price and tell them I will be leasing. So far they quoted me $40,440 without Nav. I think I can do better looking at your price.
Thanks for yoour reply in advance.
Is it realistic to pay $36000 (all taxes & fees included) as final price for 2005 New rx330 with premium package? I live in Southern California.
Thanks,
Kathy
Service has been top notch so far, I had Data Dots installed, got another RX for a loaner.
You wrote that you are getting 500 $ over the invoice.could u plz let me which dealer are you negotiating with and where in CT
Thanks
Ria
Thanks for the reply. Well, I got the 2006 RX330 Flint Mica without navigation, but got the bluetooth put into the car for my cell phone, so I can use it hands-free for extra $419 (might be a bit much). They gave me the car for $1,000 over invoice which comes out to $39,440. The invoice price they have it's a bit more than Edmunds' number by about $470??? Not sure if they are telling me the truth or if Edmunds has the wrong number. My package total is $39,859 but it's for 2006, so I think I got a pretty good deal.
I am leasing the car anyway and they were able to give me $550/mo, 12k for 30mo. I will be going over there to pick-up the car Sat, hope nothing changes when I get there!
I did try to get the local dealer to match the price, but the best they can do is $40,700 without the bluetooth option.
I live in central Illinois and the only dealer closeby (in Peoria) is pretty tough in negotiating over e-mails or phone---the best they can do was $1000-$1500 below MSRP. I then contacted Lexus of Orland in south Chicago (by e-mail first and then by phone) and I was quoted $41700 +TTL for a 2006 RX330 with navigation system with backup camera, 18' alloy wheel, 6-CD changer, transmission cooler, cargo mats, etc. (MSRP 45708).
My family went there and they did not have a car with the color we wanted. We could put in deposit and they promised to deliver the car for free to my house, which is about 120 miles away. Then we found out that they have a car with the color we wanted on the lot, but have additional options of Mark Levinson Audio system and DVD rear-seat entertainment system in it (with MSRP of 48,370). Since my kids really loved and pleaded for the systems, we then negotiated with the dealer to $43300 (+TTL), which is ~$1200 above the invoice.
We have had this car for a few days and loved it! I think the backup camera is important (particularly to my wife), given the high seating and relatively limited views when backing up without the backup camera. Other options may not be as important. However, to me the extra couple of thousand dollars is a small percentage of the total price of the car and yet we can enjoy so much more for many years to come (my kids are now pleading us to go for a long trip this coming weekend.....).
Good luck in hunting for your dream car!
So I just priced the 2006 RX330 with Nav and DVD entertainment for $42,800 (sticker $47,548). Is that good?

Can anyone provide some feedback on the quality (or lack there of) of this deal?
Best deal I was offered last month was 498 including CT tax on a 36month premium pkg 12k mi/yr total upfront $1450.00 from Westport.
Whats best anyone knows of on an -06 with navigation pkg 12k/yr 36mo lease in the tristate area? Thanks!
how much was the adv fee?I havent heard abt that...
I am doing my docs next week, thus far they have not said anything about an advertising fee, so we shall see how my own advice works if they pull that on me.
By the way, I am down to $1000 over invoice on a 2006 RX with RSES and NAV, and they are very happy with that deal, and I am too. I understand they need to make some money too.
The best way to avoid being irked by the various fees is to negotiate an out-the-door (OTD) price. If you can negotiate a bottom line price that you're happy with, it doesn't really matter what money goes into which category. As far as I'm concerned, the dealership can split it out any way they want as long as I get to leave paying the OTD price I negotiated.
