I was quoted two weeks ago on essentially the same vehicle.
    MSRP = $45,708
    Invoice = $39,949.
My quote was $43,000 + TTL. Didn't buy it.

Extended warranty never "worth it" with a Lexus.

    Hi there,

I am beginning negotiation on a white 2004 RX330 that is loaded, dvd system, navigation, rear camera leather seats, heated seats, xenon lights, etc. All the things my wife doesn't really need :)

The car has 12,800 miles and appears to be in excellent condition. The vehicle is a trade in and the dealership sticker price is $39,900. Edmunds prices the car at Dealer Retail: $39,002, Private Party: $35,705 and Trade In: $34,168.

My question is: What should my initial offer be? Any additional insight would be valuable. I don't have much experience in this arena.

Is it AWD or FWD? Also, is it Certified Pre-Owned from Lexus?
  • jackatrolojackatrolo Member Posts: 5
AWD. Not certified pre-owned. They just received it in yesterday. Thanks.

Well, I've been pricing out virtually the same vehicle, only a new one - 2005 and 2006 model and no rear seat DVD. Several people here have reported prices paid of new 2005 models of $1,000 - $1,500 over invoice which would be equivalent to $40,500 - $41,000 for a brand new 2005 model.

What I would do is go into the dealership armed with the price I could get a brand new 2005 for. Then negotiate a purchase price on the 2004 model factoring in it's an older model with 12k miles. Take a look at this web site and click the "specials" link to see some pre-negotiated prices on similarly equipped vehicles. Maybe you can use this as an example of what you can get a 2005 for and establish that a used 2004 should be quite a bit less expensive than a brand new 2005. $39k doesn't seem like a good price to me.

FYI....I got an initial quote on a 2006 AWD with Nav, 18" wheels, Premium pkg plus, HID's, heated seats/rain sensing wipers for $43,000. That's only $4,000 more than they are quoting you on your 2004. Hope this helps.

I got what sounds like the same package for about $1,000 less a little over a month ago -- but ordered it and got the pricing almost 2 months ago. However, demand has been very high recently, so I suspect prices have been going up and thus you got a good deal. You'll likely love your RX. :)

How big has demand been? When we arrived at the dealership to pick up the RX, several people were gathered around our RX wanting to see it (of course they couldn't). The dealer, which is the leading Lexus volume dealer in the area, had only 3 RXs available on the lot -- only one of which was AWD. Lots of everything else, including the hot GS models.

got a fwd rx330 2006 w/ nag, prem plus package, 6cd, heated front seats with sensor (HH), preferred acc. package, 18'" wheels for 44,000 otd.
  • lazarus629lazarus629 Member Posts: 4
There is no difference between 2005 and 2006, other than model year (told by dealer and have seen nothing to the contrary on the web or in print).

I like everything you're doing except the Levinson. I guess the issue is how important sound system is to you. The standard system is not at all shabby, in fact it is quite good and over $1000 less (I think).

Other than that, I think your "specs" are excellent and you should be very happy with your RX. In Chicago, you'll love the heated seats. We live in San Diego and have same w/o the Levinson and with 18" wheels. Having lived in Chicago, I would recommend staying with the 17" wheels because they are better for bad weather conditions (with all season tires).

In case you haven't already found this out, go to the Lexus site to find out what packages are commonly available in your area. If you want a combination that is NOT shown there, it will be (at best) a long wait.

    Good luck.

Ok my peeps, please help me out.

    2006 RX330
    Flint/Black/Nav, etc.
    Sticker: 45,708
    Price: 42,421

Please tell me what you think. That's about $2500 over invoice. Do I need to be more aggressive, and if so, by how much?
  • shopping4shopping4 Member Posts: 2
I'm right there too...I have been quoted $42,171 + tax & no D&H for same model and options. Is this as good as it gets?
  • newmownernewmowner Member Posts: 86
    what is D&H?
  • shopping4shopping4 Member Posts: 2
D&H is delivery and handling; a common fee that dealers charge on top of the vehicle price.

    From the Lexus site:
Historically, vehicle manufacturers and distributors have charged a separate fee for processing, handling and delivering vehicles to dealerships. Lexus' charge for these services is called the "delivery, processing and handling fee" and is based on the value of the processing, handling and delivery services Lexus provides, as well as Lexus' overall pricing structure. Lexus may make a profit on the delivery, processing and handling fee.
  • newmownernewmowner Member Posts: 86
    oh i see.

i would be only be charged (aside from plates and inspection):
    tire tax ($12.50)
    processing ($45)

The dealers here in central TX are doing $2000-$2500 off MSRP.

Where are the dealers that are offering $1500 over invoice?

    Hi all -
I just got a 2006 RX330 brochure and there are some new options...air suspension, sequential gear transmission (you can manually change gears), and adaptive cruise control. When i choose to build a new RX330 either on the lexus website, or on the dealers website, there are only two packages available and these new options are not listed for the 2006 model. Does anyone know if these options are delayed for 2006? (I live in the New York Metro area) Thanks.
  • swee7bebeswee7bebe Member Posts: 3
41990 before taxes. I went to Difeo Lexus in Bound Brook, NJ...rt 22. Look around, though...you might find something cheaper.

    Mike:

How was the experience dealing with Ray Catena? They just contacted me with the referral from Edmunds.com I am looking to lease the car and want to get a good sales price and tell them I will be leasing. So far they quoted me $40,440 without Nav. I think I can do better looking at your price.

Thanks for yoour reply in advance.

    Hi All,

Is it realistic to pay $36000 (all taxes & fees included) as final price for 2005 New rx330 with premium package? I live in Southern California.

    Thanks,

    Kathy

The whole sales process was very smooth, everything was taken care off over the phone and it took maybe 30 min to do all the paperwork. I don't know what the going prices are for 2006 since I stoped paying attention after getting mine. I gave my price to 4 dealers and after they met my price at Defoe I called Catena and they came down another $200. The main thing is to know your price in advance and have a week or two to wait them out, make sure you tell them that you are ready to buy at the price you are asking. IF you want I can give you the name of my sales person.

Service has been top notch so far, I had Data Dots installed, got another RX for a loaner.

just traded 2004 rx330 for 2006 re330, (same equip 14000 miles) out the door for 8404.00 inc. taxes and transfer of title. list price was 40445.00. I saved the cost of the 15000 mi maint. and new tires in another 5000-8000 miles. This figures out at $350.00 per month. I don't believe that I could lease this car for that amount.
  • tenchu81tenchu81 Member Posts: 3
    Mike,

Thanks for the reply. Well, I got the 2006 RX330 Flint Mica without navigation, but got the bluetooth put into the car for my cell phone, so I can use it hands-free for extra $419 (might be a bit much). They gave me the car for $1,000 over invoice which comes out to $39,440. The invoice price they have it's a bit more than Edmunds' number by about $470??? Not sure if they are telling me the truth or if Edmunds has the wrong number. My package total is $39,859 but it's for 2006, so I think I got a pretty good deal.

I am leasing the car anyway and they were able to give me $550/mo, 12k for 30mo. I will be going over there to pick-up the car Sat, hope nothing changes when I get there!

I did try to get the local dealer to match the price, but the best they can do is $40,700 without the bluetooth option.

First, I would like to thank every one who provided info on this forum. I have been visiting this forum on and off for a while and I used the info in my purchase of a new 2006 RX330 last weekend. I now would like to return the favor by providing my own experience.

I live in central Illinois and the only dealer closeby (in Peoria) is pretty tough in negotiating over e-mails or phone---the best they can do was $1000-$1500 below MSRP. I then contacted Lexus of Orland in south Chicago (by e-mail first and then by phone) and I was quoted $41700 +TTL for a 2006 RX330 with navigation system with backup camera, 18' alloy wheel, 6-CD changer, transmission cooler, cargo mats, etc. (MSRP 45708).

My family went there and they did not have a car with the color we wanted. We could put in deposit and they promised to deliver the car for free to my house, which is about 120 miles away. Then we found out that they have a car with the color we wanted on the lot, but have additional options of Mark Levinson Audio system and DVD rear-seat entertainment system in it (with MSRP of 48,370). Since my kids really loved and pleaded for the systems, we then negotiated with the dealer to $43300 (+TTL), which is ~$1200 above the invoice.

We have had this car for a few days and loved it! I think the backup camera is important (particularly to my wife), given the high seating and relatively limited views when backing up without the backup camera. Other options may not be as important. However, to me the extra couple of thousand dollars is a small percentage of the total price of the car and yet we can enjoy so much more for many years to come (my kids are now pleading us to go for a long trip this coming weekend.....).

Good luck in hunting for your dream car!
  • rezultzrezultz Member Posts: 12
Are dealers offering the Performance package for the rx330 for 2006? (adj. air suspension, sequential shift transmission, etc.)...or the multi-panel moonroof? I see these as packages on the lexus website, but you cannot build a vehicle with these options. Weird. :confuse:

just got a quote with a NYC dealer for the $45,708 stickered 2006 RX330 for $41,500. anyone doing any better than this?
  • simplemindsimplemind Member Posts: 8
Multiply .89 X MSRP! That's the best I know of.
  • newmownernewmowner Member Posts: 86
    Why that formula?

I just test drove a base model 2006 RX 330. They quoted $39,500. Do ya'll think I could get it for $36,000.? It is a base model. Thanks. This dealership is in Mobile, AL

Just closed a deal on a 2006 RX330 last night. Paid dealer invoice (edmunds invoice + adv. fee) + $800. Had a internet manager at Park Place Plano accept my offer and then Sewell Lexus matched it (internet manager). Also did a in&out included on this (complimentary). Hope this helps next buyer!
  • newmownernewmowner Member Posts: 86
What is the sticker on that vehicle? Do you mean base model meaning no Nav or DVD? I think you can definitely get down to $37,500 if $39,500 was their initial quote.

So I just priced the 2006 RX330 with Nav and DVD entertainment for $42,800 (sticker $47,548). Is that good?

I am just trying to find out if i am getting a good deal. thanks
  • newmownernewmowner Member Posts: 86
Is that a 2006? If so, I think that is a little under $700 over the Edmunds invoice, which is great. My best offer thus far is $700 more at $42,800 in the tri-state area :P .
  • richleasequestrichleasequest Member Posts: 4
Hi all: First some help for the site-
Best deal I was offered last month was 498 including CT tax on a 36month premium pkg 12k mi/yr total upfront $1450.00 from Westport.

Whats best anyone knows of on an -06 with navigation pkg 12k/yr 36mo lease in the tristate area? Thanks!

    Hi!
how much was the adv fee?I havent heard abt that...
  • newmownernewmowner Member Posts: 86
There should never be a charge for advertising fee. That is a bunch of BS, that should be a part of their cost of doing business and not transferred to the buyer on each unit sold. I would tell them that you are not paying that.

I am doing my docs next week, thus far they have not said anything about an advertising fee, so we shall see how my own advice works if they pull that on me.

By the way, I am down to $1000 over invoice on a 2006 RX with RSES and NAV, and they are very happy with that deal, and I am too. I understand they need to make some money too.
  • Kirstie_HKirstie_H Administrator Posts: 11,242
While that may be the way you feel, the advertising fee is charged to the dealer by Toyota/Lexus, and usually isn't negotiable. The dealer has to pay the ad fee regardless of whether you do or don't. I agree that it's ridiculous for them to itemize this cost, because it just results in the customer being aggravated.

The best way to avoid being irked by the various fees is to negotiate an out-the-door (OTD) price. If you can negotiate a bottom line price that you're happy with, it doesn't really matter what money goes into which category. As far as I'm concerned, the dealership can split it out any way they want as long as I get to leave paying the OTD price I negotiated.

Good point Kirstie_H. I will keep that in mind. I am actually going to the dealer this morning to itemize the price, and we shall see. I still am going to strongly refuse to "pay" for it, and will let you know what happens!
  • mo6mo6 Member Posts: 7
You both have a good point. I purchased the 2006 rx330 for my wife yesterday in the DFW metroplex. The car I purchased was a premium package fwd, the msrp was $41,143. Thanks to this forum I had anticipated getting hit with doc fees, misc fees, and advertising fees when I purchased the car for my target price. I had a feeling these fees would be inflated if I received my target price. So I offerred the dealership a driveout price to avoid these issues. When I went the dealership to process and price was painless, no suprises. Here's my deal, hope this helps someone in the metroplex.
    2006 rx330
    fwd
    premium package
    18" wheels
    6 disc cd player
    cargo mat
    wheel locks
    msrp $41,143
    Out-the-door $39,500
    Sales tax was 6.25%
Also I forgot to mention this is a Japan made model I purchased with Michelin tires. Serial starts with J. I figure I paid around $300-400 above Edmunds invoice plus adv fee.
