I have just finished reading all 872 messages on this forum. Most of all I was amazed at how many times the same questions were asked repeatedly. There was quite a bit of information on all these pages!!

I live with someone who is considering purchasing the H3. This past week I found one at another dealerships lot that was close to the house. I took a test drive. I fell in love. I felt like a giddy school girl driving it. It was remarkably easy to handle. Had an unexpectedly smooth ride. It was much quieter than I had anticipated. Though my only experience with this type of vehicle was over 10 years ago when I drove HMMWV's in the Marine Corps. The H3 in no way compares to my memories of the military version other than some cosmetic similarities and maybe some of the offroad capabilities.

The pictures online usually fail to really do the H3 justice. In particular the shade of red. The real life color is bright and more of a true red than many of the pictures show. I was also disappointed that I haven't found any pictures of the H3 actually towing anything.

He flies out of town Tuesday and comes back home Friday. The airport is not too far from a dealership over in Grapevine, TX. So we have plans to head over there. He wants to test drive it since I had such favorable remarks about it.

He has been pricing it with USAA tonight. Seems like we can get a good deal that way. He also is per-approved for an auto loan with USAA. Now it just comes down to the test drive. :D Hopefully I'm not getting too excited.

Greetings! What is GMID? How can it be used? How does one get one? Thanks for your help.

I put a $20 wide-angle lens in our H3's rear window and it helps visibility considerably when backing up. Do a search on "wide angle safety". Rear view cameras are becoming popular and can be had installed for well under $500.

There's a lot of GM In the Driveway certificate posts here. Try a Search This Discussion for GMID using the link at the top or bottom of the posts. I think the first thread started around post #200.

Those are very popular in motorhomes and can be found at most RV dealers that have a good accessories dept.

Does anyone have any cool hummer license plate wording? I saw one the other day which said "IBHUMIN". I'm trying to think of something when I finally find the H3 I'm looking for.

Greetings. I am planning on making a purchase of a new H3 in the next few weeks. I am serious and ready to go for it. Can you please send me a GMID? What do you need from me to send one? I will get you the needed info ASAP. Also.. how long are the GMID's good for. I have a friend who is wanting to buy also but has to wait 4 more months until his lease is up. otherwise he would buy tomorrow! :-) Please email me details on what you need from me. My email is dadegraham@yahoo.com . Thank you in advance.

most won't waste their time on you until you have talked with dealer as most won't accept them as they are greedy. You need to be in the process of actually buying one NOW not next week or next month as employees only get 2 GMID's per month and don't want to waste them on the wanta-be's

Does the GMID price include or subtract dealer holdback????

I recently read a report that said dealers in my region had an $800.00 hold back.

Thanks in advance for your input

within a couple of weeks im looking to buy the H3. I want the luxury package, Auto, Victory RED!,leather, roof rail air bags, chrome package, power sun roof, chrome tube steps, chrome brush guards , chrome gas cap. i have just hear of the GMID special. if anyone has further info about the GMID , and could prehaps provide a fair price for the H3 with above options i would love to hear from you. I have tried to find a fair price and i guess im looking at about 38-39k. thanks for the help.

Dealers don't like to dip into the holdback:

    Dealer Holdback

Holdback on a Hummer is 3% of the total MSRP.

OK other than driving slow Has anyone done anything to thier H3 that actually improved gas mileage??

Alot of people post thier mileage but not all the specifics of thier vehicles. I would think if one added hundereds of pounds with options and increased drag they would be getting worse mileage then someone with a standard H3 no options.

Also, I would be interested to see what gas mileage a basic H3 standard drive with no add on options gets compared to an auto lux version with brush guards, roof racks, and all the options that can add weight and drag to the vehicle.

Finally, anyone take off the rear spare tire and throw it in the back to increase visibility??? How much does the tire and rim weight???

Thanks in advance for any input

    How about "I H3 U"?
  • h2fanh2fan Member Posts: 27
I heard that with GMID, you are required to pay the (income) tax on difference in MSRP and the GMID price you pay, is that true?
  • dmathews3dmathews3 Member Posts: 1,739
NO, and don't let the dealer pull that on you either.
  • johnsteejohnstee Member Posts: 1
I've been looking at a pre-owned H3 with nearly 19,000 miles on it. The dealer wants almost $34,000 for it but I can't imagine that is reasonable given that you can buy a brand new one for a few thousand more. It's loaded with the luxury package, sunroof, dvd system, xm radio, and a couple other minor options like step assist and a tow package.

There is no information on any of the used car websites for 2006's yet so considering the options --- I estimate this thing was about $37,000 to $38,000 (MSRP)brand new and with new car depreciation and mileage I can't imagine paying anymore than $29,000 or $30,000.

Am I being unreasonable? What would be considered a good price for an H3 as described above?
  • zackbakerzackbaker Member Posts: 2
ive also been looking for a used hummer. I found one with 6000+ they wanted 33980. with crome pack/ lux/ sunroof. But ive looked at new ones and with the 5.9% special , and its about the same because used car loans have a higher % on interest. so if you have cash its better. The used hummer sold in about 2 days. and they would not go any lower. GOOD LUCK finding 29000 to 30000.

YES I AM BUYING A H3 PLAESE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE A CRETIFICATE FOR A GMID, THANKS
  • dwpcdwpc Member Posts: 159
    johnstee:

You're right. Its overpriced. H3 supply is still lagging demand. Many people are still willing to wait months for an H3 equipped to their taste from the factory. This keeps used H3 values at a premium because some would rather buy an "almost new" H3 than wait. However, 19,000 miles is very heavily used; the warranty is 40% gone and will need tires and brakes soon. I think would be a hard sell at that price except to someone with a bad case of H3 fever.

I'd research the invoice cost and make an offer substantially lower that reflects it's true "used car" status. Don't get desperate, car salemen can smell it on you.

Send me your birthdate and last 4 numbers of your SS#
Make sure your dealer will take GMID first
  • bosshoss1bosshoss1 Member Posts: 18
Wow the prices listed here for used hummers are crazy.
Both preowned listed above are selling real close to GMID price on a NEW one.
Carefull, do your homework before buying a used H3.

My wife really has fallen for the new H3. I think that its a pretty cool looking ride myself. We currently are selling some real estate and will hit the dealers after escrow closes. (about 30 more days) My question is; does anybody know if the 07 H3 will have a v-8 option, or possibly a turbo on the inline 5? I would want to do some light towing of my boat and could probably use some extra power. We would like to have one by april but if the 07's might come with a more powerful engine package, I would certainly wait for the 07 model.Since this will be a cash deal I dont want to buy and then find out, wow I could have had a v-8. This forum has some pretty knowledgable members, so please give me your input. I will most definitly obtain a gmid, the dealers here in so calif do accept them. although some are offering up to 6000 off msrp on the 38k models.(lux, offroad pkg, chromepkg sunroof etc). Thanks to all.

I read on the internet that on March 15th through April 4th that GM would be offering more rebates and incentives under their March Madness sale.

Anybody know what will apply to HUMMER!!!!!

I've been waiting for this to pull the trigger on my purchase.
  • ggarrisonggarrison Member Posts: 2
I guess I had to do my own research. I visited the hummer dealer yesterday and asked about the 07 hummer and engine packages. I was lucky to get the fleet sales mgr.He said definitly no turbo 5 cyl. but look for a small v8. 4.8l or 5.3l. This was a welcome answer.I test drove one and definitly not enough power for towing, but alone the 5cyl. seemed ok. thanks anyway .I still want one but will wait till aug or sept for the 07.

If you can find an H3 that has been sitting on the dealers lot since mid October there is 1000 bonus cash on it. Good hunting!
  • wordstewwordstew Member Posts: 9
I pulled the trigger and bought a H3.

Grey, auto, side tube steps and trailor hitch $28,800.00

How much dirt/off road use can this thing handle without the rocker panel protection? I am a novice at offroading. I purchased it because I must be on the road 365 days a year no matter what the weather condition. So I am quite sure it will get me through a foot or two of snow and unplowed New England streets.

My buddy just bought a FJ (faux jeep) cruiser. I am sure he will challenge me to go off road with him. How much punishment can I give my beast offroad with the options I have? I would very much like to be pulling his FJ out of the mud after he tries to follow me and gets stuck>

Thanks in advance for your answers
  • dmathews3dmathews3 Member Posts: 1,739
I have found in all my years of off roading, it is experience over equipment most of the time. If he has off roaded for years he will blow you away driving either of the vehicles. So don't get cocky and take it easy and ask questions and learn.
  • wordstewwordstew Member Posts: 9
Friend you got it all wrong. My buddy and I are both four wheelin novices. He just thinks his FJ is gonna blow away my H3.

Although I have driven militay Hummers hundreds of times in almost every condition possible. I don't think I can compare a military Hummer to a H3. Just looking for its out of the box capability. I fully expect the H3 to hold up to an FJ. Just interested in other folks experiences when thier H3 went up against other off-roaders.

Having recently looked over the FJ and compared it to the H3. I can't for the life of me figure why the FJ would have such a flimsy plastic bumper and front end. doesn't look like it will hold on road let alone off road..

If there's a 4-wheeling club in your area, that's a great way to find out some places to ride and get some tips at the same time.

I'll second what others have said - don't get into any kind of offroading competition until you have some serious real world experience behind you.

28,800 is a great deal...that is what im looking for. Did u lease it or purchase it for that price if you dont mind me asking....thanks in advance.
  • wordstewwordstew Member Posts: 9
That price was with GMID and $1,000.00 rebate because the vehicle has been on the lot I think since before November 15th (March Madness Rebate). At that price I bought not leased.

Also, I'm not 100% sure but I think you can apply $1,000.00 off from your GM credit card points if you got them. This would bring the price to $27,800.00. The GM card will let you pay your taxes through it and get points for doing so. It's a great deal if they let you apply the $$ towards the vehicle.

I figure that I got a pretty good deal. I will probably spend a grand of my savings and get aftermarket leather seats and the have drivers seat overstuffed and raised a few inches. I am a short guy so the extra height helps alot.

    Good luck

One of the mags/rags just did a test on 5 off roaders and the H3 was best in off road but lacking in all other areas. The Jeep was one of them along with Toyota and one of the Fords and can't remember other.

I much prefer the review in the New York Times about the H3. It's dated 25 Sept 05 but I don't recall having seen it when I read through the forums previous.

    Hello,

I have been looking over the search feature but cannot find any figures on the modded H3. I just bought an H3, Red, Auto, Lthr, Sun Roof and completely love it! I came from a Nissan Murano that had a 3.5L, 245HP engine that zoomed. I want to raise my HP and Torque on the H3. The Cool Air Intake, Throttle Body Spacer and Dual Exhaust sound awesome. Can anyone give me some information on these items? Like how much more HP/Torque/MPG you get by installing these items? Has anyone dabbled into the precision chip reprogramming route? I would really appreciate it. The H3 is an awesome vehicle :shades: and I cannot believe how many people stare! A lot of necks breaking! LOL!

    Thanks,

    Crusader

My H3 is just over a month old. It has been in the shop three times------twice because my panel said the traction stability system failed and once because I'm getting 11 miles/gal. Anyone experiencing these problems???

Besides reading the numerous reviews has anyone actually driven both? If so what are you views? The FJ's have sparked my intrest. Thanks.

Late notice but does anyone still have the ability to get a GMID certificate for March? My husband just decided to buy an H3 and the GMID would be very helpful with the purchase. Thanks.
  • wordstewwordstew Member Posts: 9
Yes my friend I have driven both the H3 and the FJ. If it's power you want buy the FJ. That being said the H3 with the Adventure package Dwarfs the FJ in Size. If you put both vehicles side by side The FJ looks like a 25 thousand dollar vehicle and the H3 looks like a forty five thousand dollar vehicle. The same goes for the vehicle interiors. Base H3 looks much better than a base FJ.

After driving the two and comparing them side by side in my opinion the H3 won hands down. The turning radius is incredible, FJ radius is lousy, go onto the FJ forum and you will see that's a big complaint.

If your gonna tow a boat all the time get an FJ. Otherwise get the H3
  • ddarlingddarling Member Posts: 4
The H3's gas mileage varies greatly. With a fully loaded automatic, expect 13 around town. 15 doing 80 mph. 21 mph doing 55 mph. Obviously, the thing is a brick and poor aerodynamics eat gas. It also weighs a lot so that stop and go also eats gas. Not much that you can do to improve. As to visibility, the rear tire hardly impacts anything. I don't understand the big concern.
  • scalpelbladescalpelblade Member Posts: 7
Thanks for your opinion.....I saw 2 FJ's this weekend...a yellow and a bright blue......then quickly went to see the H3's of a quick comparison and your right just on appreance of both the H3 wins hands down. I still cant get over the contrast of white roof....just not my style.
