I live with someone who is considering purchasing the H3. This past week I found one at another dealerships lot that was close to the house. I took a test drive. I fell in love. I felt like a giddy school girl driving it. It was remarkably easy to handle. Had an unexpectedly smooth ride. It was much quieter than I had anticipated. Though my only experience with this type of vehicle was over 10 years ago when I drove HMMWV's in the Marine Corps. The H3 in no way compares to my memories of the military version other than some cosmetic similarities and maybe some of the offroad capabilities.
The pictures online usually fail to really do the H3 justice. In particular the shade of red. The real life color is bright and more of a true red than many of the pictures show. I was also disappointed that I haven't found any pictures of the H3 actually towing anything.
He flies out of town Tuesday and comes back home Friday. The airport is not too far from a dealership over in Grapevine, TX. So we have plans to head over there. He wants to test drive it since I had such favorable remarks about it.
He has been pricing it with USAA tonight. Seems like we can get a good deal that way. He also is per-approved for an auto loan with USAA. Now it just comes down to the test drive.

I recently read a report that said dealers in my region had an $800.00 hold back.
Thanks in advance for your input
Dealer Holdback
Holdback on a Hummer is 3% of the total MSRP.

Alot of people post thier mileage but not all the specifics of thier vehicles. I would think if one added hundereds of pounds with options and increased drag they would be getting worse mileage then someone with a standard H3 no options.
Also, I would be interested to see what gas mileage a basic H3 standard drive with no add on options gets compared to an auto lux version with brush guards, roof racks, and all the options that can add weight and drag to the vehicle.
Finally, anyone take off the rear spare tire and throw it in the back to increase visibility??? How much does the tire and rim weight???
Thanks in advance for any input
There is no information on any of the used car websites for 2006's yet so considering the options --- I estimate this thing was about $37,000 to $38,000 (MSRP)brand new and with new car depreciation and mileage I can't imagine paying anymore than $29,000 or $30,000.
Am I being unreasonable? What would be considered a good price for an H3 as described above?
You're right. Its overpriced. H3 supply is still lagging demand. Many people are still willing to wait months for an H3 equipped to their taste from the factory. This keeps used H3 values at a premium because some would rather buy an "almost new" H3 than wait. However, 19,000 miles is very heavily used; the warranty is 40% gone and will need tires and brakes soon. I think would be a hard sell at that price except to someone with a bad case of H3 fever.
I'd research the invoice cost and make an offer substantially lower that reflects it's true "used car" status. Don't get desperate, car salemen can smell it on you.
Make sure your dealer will take GMID first
Both preowned listed above are selling real close to GMID price on a NEW one.
Carefull, do your homework before buying a used H3.
Anybody know what will apply to HUMMER!!!!!
I've been waiting for this to pull the trigger on my purchase.
Grey, auto, side tube steps and trailor hitch $28,800.00
How much dirt/off road use can this thing handle without the rocker panel protection? I am a novice at offroading. I purchased it because I must be on the road 365 days a year no matter what the weather condition. So I am quite sure it will get me through a foot or two of snow and unplowed New England streets.
My buddy just bought a FJ (faux jeep) cruiser. I am sure he will challenge me to go off road with him. How much punishment can I give my beast offroad with the options I have? I would very much like to be pulling his FJ out of the mud after he tries to follow me and gets stuck>
Thanks in advance for your answers
Although I have driven militay Hummers hundreds of times in almost every condition possible. I don't think I can compare a military Hummer to a H3. Just looking for its out of the box capability. I fully expect the H3 to hold up to an FJ. Just interested in other folks experiences when thier H3 went up against other off-roaders.
Having recently looked over the FJ and compared it to the H3. I can't for the life of me figure why the FJ would have such a flimsy plastic bumper and front end. doesn't look like it will hold on road let alone off road..

Also, I'm not 100% sure but I think you can apply $1,000.00 off from your GM credit card points if you got them. This would bring the price to $27,800.00. The GM card will let you pay your taxes through it and get points for doing so. It's a great deal if they let you apply the $$ towards the vehicle.
I figure that I got a pretty good deal. I will probably spend a grand of my savings and get aftermarket leather seats and the have drivers seat overstuffed and raised a few inches. I am a short guy so the extra height helps alot.
Good luck

I have been looking over the search feature but cannot find any figures on the modded H3. I just bought an H3, Red, Auto, Lthr, Sun Roof and completely love it! I came from a Nissan Murano that had a 3.5L, 245HP engine that zoomed. I want to raise my HP and Torque on the H3. The Cool Air Intake, Throttle Body Spacer and Dual Exhaust sound awesome. Can anyone give me some information on these items? Like how much more HP/Torque/MPG you get by installing these items? Has anyone dabbled into the precision chip reprogramming route? I would really appreciate it. The H3 is an awesome vehicle :shades: and I cannot believe how many people stare! A lot of necks breaking! LOL!
Thanks,
Crusader
After driving the two and comparing them side by side in my opinion the H3 won hands down. The turning radius is incredible, FJ radius is lousy, go onto the FJ forum and you will see that's a big complaint.
If your gonna tow a boat all the time get an FJ. Otherwise get the H3
Or if it's power you want, Geiger Hot-Rods the Hummer H3 up to 325 Horses (Inside Line)
