that was the only one I saw. Strange, when I saw it I thought cavalier and then I saw the Toyota badge. Not fair, as Toyota gets a subpar Cavalier while Chevrolet got the far superior Prizm. Then again, both got discontinued. The HK used car market is pretty big, as there's a steep tax on all brand new cars, but not on used cars. It always makes more sense to buy a used car in HK, as you're paying less taxes.

Alot of used cars from Japan also go to Eastern Russia, which is across the sea.

I read a story once, somewhere, that these Russians will bid fiercly for anything that runs from Tokyo, etc.

The J body was revised in 1995, but was not all new underneath.

Looks good in person. Got plenty of attention too, most of it rubbing off from the Corvette and the 3 small cars that were next to each other (Saturn Curve, Chevy Nomad, Pontiac Solistic production model).

They were up on a stand so I could not get inside. :-(

Honestly, though, the Nomad stole the show. It is so cool. It's smaller than it looks in photos, it's low and sporty looking. On photos it looks like a wagon, no sir, it's closer to a Mini Cooper in size, especially height.

The Curve was also neat, looks better in person. It uses the Kappa platform from the Solstice, so GM could build it just to offset some costs.

The Solistice was impressive. Saw the designer, he even brought his proud momma (really). Press were taking pictures of them.

Oh, and I met Brock Yates. Funny guy.

did you meet Bob Lutz? If you do, tell him edmunds town hall would like a better Saturn Relay. (and a better Uplander, SV6 and Terraza for that matter!)
  • logic1logic1 Member Posts: 2,433
though I do not necessarily agree with him on most things.

It must have been pretty cool to meet him.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
No, he was there the day before, supposedly. It was cool to meet Brock Yates and Ramana Lageman, even got to chat with Ramana over the Subaru dinner.

GM's trio of small cars drew the attention, not the vans or even the Cobalt. But they didn't scare anyone off, either.

I told Brock that I thought I might meet someone famous. He said, "if I see someone famous, I'll let you know". It was hilarious. He looks older in person than in the C&D photo.

He is a provocative writer. I often disagree with him, but he does command attention.

They should call the Saturn van the Rebate instead of the Relay. ;-)

would be a misprint as what if there's no rebates on the car in the first six months? Relay is as close they can get to Rebate without being sued by some consumer who thought that the name said it all. (and a few months after launch, the name will say it all)

If the Freestar was introduced with cash back, I would imagine the Saturn will be, since it has less power/torque, fewer safety features, fewer convenience features...

Assuming all people care that much about HP. You are right though, I'm sure there will be rebates, almost all non Honda / Toyota vehicles have them.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Some Toyotas too. Camry and Highlander had them at the end of the model year.

    Honda had financing incentives, too.

like what, 500 bucks and 5.9 interest?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    No, more than that.

The 2003 Highlander had $900 cash back plus a $950 dealer incentive. $1850 is no small discount.

I guess consumers heard the 3rd row was coming, as well as the 3.3l V6.

The slow sellers like Echo and RAV have incentives up here. A little break on Camry rates, not much though. The old Sienna had some real low financing before it was gone.
  • chevyguy657chevyguy657 Member Posts: 216
I guess we're different down here in FL (no comments from the peanut-gallery), but our incentives are much higher (except on new Chevys).

All '04 Camrys (except the LE 4) right now have $1,000 cash back and the Le 4 has $1,250.

The Impala has $3,000 nationwide, but we have $4,000.

Count on $1,000 at launch on the Cobalt in the US, but no more for 6+ months.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
had 0% for 60 months on Corollas in my area, and they had $3000 cash on LE 4 cylinders or 0% for 48 months.
  • regfootballregfootball Member Posts: 2,166
    except the gm card rebate.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
has the card rebates on its models on top of what they typically offer. So, that's almost $5500 plus on a Cavalier? the $4000 plus $1500 in GM card points?
  • regfootballregfootball Member Posts: 2,166
yes, on the cars they need to unload.

saabs on the other hand, i can't use it for.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Not for Saturns, either, I think. At least that used to be the case.

    What's the Buick Allure?
  • bigdaddycoatsbigdaddycoats Member Posts: 1,058
The Lacrosse/Allure is the replacement for Century/Regal.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
I didn't notice that. Cool. I guess GM came up with a replacement name for the Canadian LaCrosse. LaCrosse will be shown in Chicago I think.
  • odmanodman Member Posts: 309
It would take a heck of a lot of Viagara for most LaCrosse owners to be concerned about that...

Canada gets the Pursuit, while us down here still get the ancient 2 door Sunfire, for 05. I don't know how they will make this in the same plant. Will they be hand made in the basment?
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
they're going to make it a low volume budget model for fleet customers made with left over parts.
  • setzersetzer Member Posts: 127
I think the reason they are not bringing the Pursuit to America is because the Vibe is only on its first couple years and it is saleing really well. I dont think they want to have too much inner-brand competiton going.
  • rctennis3811rctennis3811 Member Posts: 1,031
Vibe isn't selling too well. It seems that the 5-door hatchback fad is dying..
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
Got anything to back that claim up?

Vibe was a sell out up here. They had virtually no 03s on year end clear out.. only a couple of fully loaded GTs here and there.
  • bigdaddycoatsbigdaddycoats Member Posts: 1,058
Vibe posted 56,922 sales in 2003 - an increase of more than 45 percent over 2002.

Wow 45% increase isn't good enough?????
  • regfootballregfootball Member Posts: 2,166
vibe has almost a 6 month stock on dealer lots right now. 160 days or something like that.
  • rctennis3811rctennis3811 Member Posts: 1,031
Wow, I didn't know that. I haven't seen any lately! Well, there isn't a close Pontiac dealer to where I live so maybe that's why I only see Matrixes.
  • speeds2muchspeeds2much Member Posts: 164
There were two Cobalts at the Philly Auto Show, and my Dad and I, two merciless critics of cars, thought the cars were very well-finished and impressive. Sorry, I don't have any pics.

Especially nice was a silver four door with leather and wood-grain interior. Frankly, I thought the Cobalt looked more expensive than the Corvette. Could have been the Corvette's rust-orange color that turned me off, though.
  • alpha01alpha01 Member Posts: 4,747
Where are your Vibe days turnover figures coming from? Certainly interesting that a vehicle with a 45% sales increase has 160 days inventory.

i believe it was autoweek. a link was posted on here a couple days ago.
  • tomcat630tomcat630 Member Posts: 854
Vibe is selling OK, and the 5 door hatch "fad" is not "dying".
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
If they increased the rebates, that would explain the jump in sales. Also, the days of stock probably lag a bit.

I read and enjoy Automotive News, but even I'll admit they can be slow.

This week's breaking article is the staining issue with the Mazda6, something that was all the buzz on Edmunds - two months ago!

Vibe is a nice car. A lady in our office bought one and another has a Matrix. I think these cars sell well and the utility is great.

As for all the nay sayers here.. the G6 looks awesome! I'll buy one in a second when I'm done with my 03 GP.

I went to the Philly Auto Show also, and I thought the Cobalts looked good overall, especially the blueish-purple coupe. The only thing bad I noticed was the gap between the hood and grille was fairly large, and the hood edge was raised above the fender a little bit (not flush). The coupe looks a lot nicer than a Civic coupe, but the Mazda3 is still the looker of the compact class IMO ( and will be my next car in March :) ).

I wonder if the Pursuit is coming here to the Toronto Auto Show?

    Anyone know?
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
It actually looks OK for me, except the 2001 Rio like rear end.
  • vuefor2vuefor2 Member Posts: 490
I saw on canadiandriver.com that the Pursuit will debut in Toronto.

Should see a picture in the next day or so.
  • vuefor2vuefor2 Member Posts: 490
Nice, I like it better than the Cobalt.

Interior colors are a bit odd though? I wonder if it will ever come to the US?
  • bretaabretaa Member Posts: 130
I like the packaging and color/trim choices better than the Cobalt too. Neat gauges...

I prefer the Cobalt. That Pontiac looks like the old Chevy Astra sold in Brazil. 10 years old Astra.

Expect an interior like that in the Cobalt SS.
  • dan165dan165 Member Posts: 653
I like it. Will take a closer look at the Toronto Auto Show if I can make the time to get there.

Cobalt is nice also. Looks like GM is really getting back into the small car game.
