I heard from my local dealer...that there is supposed to be a Outback sedan and it should be the H6. The person I talked to also stated that there is not supposed to be a H6 Leagcy here, so the OB sedan would be the only sedan with a 6. Lagacy will be only 4cyl NA or Turbo..which is sweet!!!
given that there is only a wagon in the new ob line up in japan, oz, nz, uk, and europe, hard to imagine they would spend the $$ for tooling for a us release ob sedan when it sells in such small numbers. the legacy sedan , esp the b4/gt package, will compete with several sport sedans and should sell well.
I don't disagree because they hardly sell any OB sedans here, but it's not really additional tooling, they just need to use the same higher suspension from the OB wagon and some different body moldings. They will have those from the front of the wagon and just need to do very little to tweak the rear. Plus there might just be enough current owners of the Legacy SUS through the OB sedan to at least want to upgrade to the 05, especially if they want the height and the 6cyl. Well we'll see...they are supposed to be launching the 05 OB at the Chicago Auto Show in Feb. Legacy only in Detroit....Can't wait!!
We sell a few up this way, several a month on average. More than the Baja, less than the Bean. I'd like to see it come back with a plain interior like the H-6 wagon.
The US-bound Legacy/Outback are most likely to have the 13-speaker McIntosh setup. The current Outback has the McIntosh system and since they have a contract with Subaru, it'll probably be standard on the higher-line models of the Legacy/Outback.
I've felt, for a long time, that to really distinguish the Legacy and Outback they should use different engines. My idea was pretty radical - make the Outback H6 only. Automatic 5 speed Sportshift only. Simple and streamlined. Wagon only, to boot.
The Legacy could come with the 2.5l or the turbo, and offer manuals, sedan or wagon.
Think about how much that would simplify the lineup, and eliminate cross-shopping.
will the range of its gearings be one larger than the current 4-EAT, or is it the same range of gears only subdivided into 5 smaller parts?
I hope its the former--I'd really like to see a true extra gear so I can cruise on the interstate at 75 to 80 while only running 1k rpm--would increase the highway fuel economy alot.
April was the last estimate we heard. That's subject to change, I don't think any dates are set in stone at this point. We might have a better idea at the Detroit Show.
Outback with naturally aspirated EJ25 SOHC and EZ30 DOHC AVCS engines and the 5EAT Sportshift for all (if production capacity allows) and the 5MT for the EJ25 std.
Legacy with the naturally aspirated EJ25 SOHC engine, and EJ257 DOHC AVCS turbo engine. I'd also plant the EZ30 DOHC AVCS naturally aspirated if the marketing folks think it would do well, which I'd imagine it would at least do decent. Make the non-DCCD 6MT available on the turbo models, 5EAT on turbo and H6 models, and 4EAT/5MT available on the EJ25 NA engine.
I like the definiton. Otherwise the only difference is the suspension and it makes it harder for people to decide.
I'm pretty sure it will land on the lots the 3rd week of May (17th - 20th). I have a Subaru dealership that's always been right on with this stuff, and they said that's what their SOA field rep stated. Can't wait to see it in person.
I called them back to ask their rep why that time in May. They said he stated that the Subaru National Dealer meeting is going on around those dates. Usually when a new product comes out they try and have it land on the lots during their Dealer meeting. Who really knows though...just trying to help.
I assume the navigation system that will be offered is a DVD based system.
Two questions:
1)How often are the maps updated? There have been a lot of new roads built around me the last year or two that are not yet offered on many map websites, or my GPS Pocket PC device.
2)If a DVD based system, does it use the same disc slot as the CD player? Can a CD be played with the Nav system in use? Does it play DVD movies?
would be one that you can burn at home. Say you buy a new car with a DVD-Nav system, but the next year you need a new one. What would be great is that you can download the replacement off of the car's website and burn it via DVD-R. Wouldn't that be great!?!
Anyone think there is any chance that Subaru will be bringing us a turbo 6 for '05? Would they introduce a new car model/trim to the US first (since this doesn't exist elsewhere in the world)?
Sources say the turbo (don't know if it's turbo 6, or turbo 4 as a turbo 6 is too expensive), normally-aspirated H4, and normally-aspirated H6 with VVT will be available in 05 for the US-spec version.
Likely to bring turbo H4, NA H4 and H6 engines. Turbo H6 is a bit on the edge and over the top if you ask me and the extra expense would be, well, um, VERY expensive! $40k range probably with everything being STied and beefed up that much.
Randall, If you meant a twin turbo, I wouldn't bet on it. It's most likely the same engine in the Forester Turbo and the Impreza STi, which both have only one turbo. It will likely fall somewhere between those two for hp and torque numbers.
was an exercise done by some guy over at nabisco, using Photoshop. Yeah, it looks neat, and I would love to see Subaru offer such a car. It looks a lot like a 3-Series coupe.
Has anyone heard what colors are going to be offered for 2005, and if so, will there be solid colors or just the standard colors with the titanium pearl on the bottom?
Jeff, We'll likely get the monotone "solid" colors on the upper end Outbacks with the two tone on the lower models, but we're really not sure.
Honestly, nobody (but FHI and SOA) knows anything about the 2005 Subaru's yet. They will be officially released next week at the NAIAS in Detroit or later this month in Chicago. About all we do know is what they might look like because of photos taken of models now on sale in other countries.
Sorry we can't be more definitive. Join the "waiting" ranks. ;-)
Pardon me if this has been asked before; I went back a ways but did not see it addressed, but does anyone know if the 2005 Outback will have either standard or as an option airbags in all four doors?

Hi folks! After paying a visit to the US and the SIA factory in March 2000 I realized that we in Europe are pretty lucky having access to the Impreza and Forester turbo verions. At that time the US public didn´t. Now it´s all changed and you people have all the goodies: Impreza 2,5 STi, Forester 2,5 XT, Baja Turbo and finally the Legacy 2,5 GT. The 2005 Legacy US-spec also feature dual zone climat control, tyre pressure monitoring system, the E5AT Sportshift has steering wheel buttons. These things aren´t featured on the Euro versions.
Looks like SIA have to think in export terms for the European market. Best Regard Martin in Sweden
Martin - Thanks for pointing those out. The other boards I've been reading have a lot of complainers on them. Nothing seems to be good enough for a lot of people.
We are truly very fortunate! Thanks Subaru!
I'm really looking forward to a Silver GT Limited Wagon with McIntosh!
when the majority have higher expectations about an upcoming model.
Like I said, I first was upset! Not because of the 250/250 (though still preliminary) but more because of the 5MT. Actually, I'm still not convinced that the tranny is REALLY reinforced! Time will only tell. I'm going to buy it as long as the price is right; why? Because I know that Subaru (or at the very least Patti) will respond if anything becomes an issue, especially the tranny. If they can prove that the casing is different and new, then I'll be alittle confident. Plus, I've waited this long when I could've been driving the G35. In addition, there's nothing that considerable mods can't do to satisfy personal tastes.
People are still crying because of the more expectancy... in reality, alot of them are not even going to buy or did not have any plans on buying the car... at least not now! Besides, these are the same people that don't realize that more HP = higher insurance rates; more luxury = higher price tag; more = more! Which eventually many won't be able to afford or invest!
So, those who truly waited will want it; as long as Subaru doesn't shoot themselves in the foot with pricing. Then there will be alot of people leaving Subaru, including myself!
Two things for me: Comfort & Pricing!

Never forget people do not HAVE to buy Subarus.
There are other choices.

12 yrs!
They indeed have some neat and interesting features, but the drivetrain has me on the fence for purchasing one.
If a WRX STi Wagon shows up first. No dice on the Legacy. Power AND durability. Both things I'd love, power alone isn't fun.
We are truly very fortunate! Thanks Subaru!
