Say, getting ready to buy Acura TL/wNAVI. Did you buy through Santa Monica Acura, by chance? I am in the LA area and have talked with them and trying to get a feel how much they are willing to negotiate?
  • justalaguyjustalaguy Member Posts: 37
My latest quote from them was $31, 550, including the wheel locks, trunk tray, splash guards. This was through an email and whether they will "honor" that price when I go in this Saturday remains to be seen.

Frankly, from my experience, the longer one waits, the more the price seems to go down. Having said that, it would be nice to take advantage of the special financing that ends May 1.

i'm going to LA this weekend from fresno as fresno's prices are ridiculous. so i have received several decent quotes from the LA area. all are in the ballpark of 29,980 (TL w/o navi) which includes destination and mud guards(???) they will be adding a doc charge of $45 and of course tax and license. so will pay them a visit and hopefully they will not jack me around and it will be a pleasant experience. i am also hoping they have the diamond white with parchment or i'm willing to go with ebony.

i will let you know of my experience and if i'm driving a new TL.
  • justalaguyjustalaguy Member Posts: 37
Hey, might see you around as I may try and go Saturday and try to wrap up my deal. I've had the best experience with Power Acura in Torrance and they printed out everything for me and caculated what my payments would be, etc. Santa Monica Acura offered me the best price so far via email ($31,550) with Nav and splash guards, trunk tray, and wheel locks.

So like you, if I end up buying from Santa Monica, I am hoping they will come through on the price quote. Funny thing is I've gotten like 5 different price quotes from them and can only guess they "forgot" they gave me the lower quote before.

Good luck on your search. By the way, Keyes Acura in Van Nuys had a commercial on the radio today that said they want to sell 3,000 cars by the end of April (this was for all of their dealerships, which Acura is part of the Keyes franchise dealership). If can believe the radio commercial, sounds like they are ready to "deal" end of the month.

I need some help....I have an appointment on Saturday to test drive and possibly purchase a car, but I am clueless as how to start negotiating. Do I let them give me a price first and then start much lower than what I am willing to pay, or just tell them out front the maximum I am willing to pay? :confuse: I am just nervous about how to go about all this as this is my first car purchase on my own. Any advice would be appreciated!

This is what i did.. It worked very well.. I told that i would buy a car if they gave me a killer deal and not just a deal and was willing to walk away. I didn't talk about trade or finance at first. I also told the salesman i didn't like to haggle and gave him a fixed OTD door price and told i was not willing to pay more than that in any case and told him to make the best offer .. Make sure u know what color, interior and features upfront so that you don't look confused. After he came back with the price ( which was $500 buck less than i asked for .. I asked about trade and when he gave the cost of trade then i got the new car financed.. The whole transaction took me about 30 mins .. The salesperson i dealt with very starightforward and didn't BS much. So it was good.. Do homework on the car.. So if you know more than them they back down a lot

I guess it won't be until Monday, May 1, when we'll know whether the 2.9% finance rates will be extended through May. Please post when you know. Thanks.
  • mikejones1mikejones1 Member Posts: 21
Has anyone else heard of this? I just got an email from a NJ dealership. What's different? I thought the 2.9% finance deals ended May 1st.

    Springfield Acura sent it.

Does any one have Sirius radio? Will the dealer install?
  • justalaguyjustalaguy Member Posts: 37
Wow, if true, that is good news. I did not see anything like this on the LA area Acura dealer websites.

It's tempting to buy now while they are offering good financing rates. I'm trying to decide to buy now and take advantage of the good rates or wait until the end of the model year to buy and get a lower price at year end clearance.

Keep me posted if you find out anything else on the special financing being extended.

Also, if you're trading your car in, be sure to print out KBB or NADA estimates on your car...it gives you better negotiating ability, I've found. Most sales people will go with the KBB prices (which aren't great but at least are standardized)...

TL Auto w/o Navi, w/protection pkg:
I've exchanged offers with multiple dealers via email and phone, and so far the best I can come up with is: $33,300 Out The Door. I got another offer for $33,050 for one w/o the protection pkg. I think I'm getting an 'okay' price, but from reviewing the forum, I feel as if I can go below $33K in the Bay Area. Any suggestions?

Also, beware of Oakland Acura. They countered offer with $34K OTD after I had spent 2 hours at the dealer on 2 separate occasions. They seem intent on making negotiations difficult.
  • justalaguyjustalaguy Member Posts: 37
    Dwong33,

No suggestions, just I feel your frustration when talking with dealers in general. I've had one dealer give me like 5 different quotes via email - some higher than the lower one they gave me before. Lowest I have received with NAVI system and protection package included is $31,550. Now, once I go in and try to get that price, who knows what will actually happen?

Good luck and lets stay in touch as we negotiate. I'm in the LA area.

Yeah that commercial at Keyes is all garbage car dealer advertising is so lame last time I went there they had this dog and pony show telling me its this and that I felt like I was at a ford dealership (nothing against ford)
I picked mine up at Santa Monica and everything was smooth no pressure etc I have torrence still trying to get my business but my friend told me that he tryed to get his TSX there and something went wrong don't remember but with all the good thing I read about Santa Monica and I am close I figured I could not do wrong and I was right.
Good luck to you on saturday I'm sure all will go well.

Bought a new Acura TL in Houston. Went back and forth between dealerships. Finally bought the car after some negotiation from Champion w/o Navi for 33,300 OTD with wheel locks, mud guards. The sales people were not trying to force and was willing to work with us. Sterling Mccall was professional too, but they didn't have the color that we wanted.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Can you break down the $33.3K OTD price? With differences in sales tax, licensing, and doc. fees it's impossible to compare prices.
  • petomlinpetomlin Member Posts: 103
After having read all the horror stories about new TLs developing rattles all over the place - Is anyone else out there a little gun shy about buying a new TL?
  • sausmafsausmaf Member Posts: 4
Just got an email quote from Santa Monica Acura ($31690 w/NAV, $29980 w/o), but I have actually been looking at '05s that are certified. Basically the same finance offer applies to cert. pre-owned vehicles, except offer runs through June. Power Acura in Torrance was really pushing the '06, and guaranteed to beat SM. Has anyone looked at the pre-owned vehicles, and are they worth the price break?

I never buy in on the extended warranties for any Japanese car since they are know for their reliabilty. Unless the car is known for problems, I would not spend a penny. If you do spend money on the warranties, make sure the known problem that can occur, like transmission or electrical problem, cost more than you pay for the warranty.
  • dbr317dbr317 Member Posts: 7
That's a pretty good deal. I thought I had a good deal when I got mine for $33,600 otd just the TL w/o nav. The car inself was $30,599 w/o dest charge.
  • dwong33dwong33 Member Posts: 2
Just bought an '06 TL w/o navi, w/protection pkg (door edges, wheelocks, splash guards, & trunk tray) up in the Bay Area. Sweet car w/great features (especially the handsfree phone link). I got my quotes thru the internet, then I made a few calls and exchanged offers with several dealers. Some dealers were difficult (Oakland and Stevens Creek), while some were pleasant and friendly. Basically, I dealt with the dealers that were personable and seem intent on making an honest offer (Concord and Serramonte).

    Dave,

Does the price include the TTL?
    with or without Nav.?

Thanks for the reply. We went to SM yesterday and looked some more. Called Power Acura after got home and they "implied" they would match SM's price.

Just trying to decide exterior and interior colors. Initially liked the Redondo Red Pearl with Parchment, but then saw the Desert Mist with Parchment and liked that as well.

Have not considered 05, as the 06's seem to be as cheap, depending on deal you get. Am hoping finance offer will be extended like one post from New Jersey said it was.

Good luck on your search and lets keep updating each other if you like. :D

we only negotiated for OTD price, and the break down is roughly $30,600 w/ destination, $400 doc fee, 3% tax, $74 title/registration. I think we could get the price even lower if we tried harder. the one they gave me passed inspection in february, and the salespersons kept telling me how busy they were and there would be 10 people buying my TL if I didn't buy.

    Leith Acura, Cary, NC.

paid $0 down, got 4.9% 5-year loan, but the monthly payment is about $1 higher than what Excel tells me.

This was with nav, including dest/handling, doesn't include ttl. I couldn't get winter mats out of them either.

So that price was just for a 06 tl auto w/nav and dest/handling. 32655

    Doc fees where $128
MV was 340 including pre registration and plates.

montclair acura. did it on the internet, it was a pleasant transaction.

We went to drive an '05 w/ Nav, A-spec body kit, and back-up sensors(28,000 mi.) at Power Acura in Torrance. The salesman told us the night before that it he could let it go in the low 27's. After filling out paperwork and getting approved for financing, they brought me back a selling price of $29,994. He told me that there had been "some mistake" and he was mis-informed of the actual selling price. Needless to say, I was put off by their little sales trick. The sales manager sat down with me and basically scolded me for trying buy a TL for such a low-price. End result was that I walked, am going to Santa Monica to look at 06's, and will probably buy from them.

Probably has to do with what day you selected to have your first payment due.

Thanks for the advice. When I went to St. Louis Acura on Saturday, everything was smooth. They were having a "special sale" where they were giving "employee discounts" to certain customers (which I'm sure was everyone).

Got an '06 black/ebony non-navi with wheel locks, trunk tray, all season mats, and door edges for $31,825 (not including doc fee of $159 or TTL). Not such a great deal in certain areas, but for the Midwest I felt pretty good about it. I have been looking at a TL since the new redesign in '04, and I don't think I've ever been this excited!!!! :D

This forum has definitely been helpful. Thanks to all!

I want to thank members of this board first for providing me very useful info in negotiating the price of my new Acura TL. I live in Phoenix, Arizona and after reading msgs in this board, decided to look into buying my TL in LA. Got below invoice prices from Planet Acura and another dealer in Santa Monica.

Planet Acura sent me the quoted price (close to $31,500 including dest charge) for a TL with Nav. They also offered to pick me up from the Airport and take me to the dealership. I flew down one way, they picked me up and sold the car in about 3 hours. The price was exactly the same. They gave me a temporary registration to drive back to AZ and register it there.

The Internet Sales Manager Yvonne was very friendly and the staff helpful. Planet Acura is going thru some remodelling and the 2.9% financing part took a little longer because they were short on staff.

But, I was extremely satisfied with the buying experience and the price.

I would strongly recommend Planet Acura to anyone after my experience. Tell Yvonne the guy from Phoenix recommended :-)

Just returned from Santa Monica Acura and was pleased with their quote ($31,660) for an 06 with Nav,mud guards, and dest. as well as their service. Sales manager said price will be valid through the week, and wasn't sure if financing deal would continue, but said it was possible. Power Acura in Torrance lost my business because of their sales tactics and attitude.
Tips from this board have been very helpful. Thanks

Private seller - 2k miles asking for $30600.00 (with nav). New TL (with nav) I have an offer of $31600.00 from dealer.

Is the $1000 savings worth it?
  • justalaguyjustalaguy Member Posts: 37
    Aarbiti,

Both prices seem good prices based upon my looking around the LA area. The natural question is, "Why is someone selling their TL after only 2k miles?" Did they get a "lemon" and trying to "dump" it now or did family circumstances force them to sell?

I'm guessing the private seller paid around $32,000 (est), based on the posts people who bought have paid. Me, personally, I would rather spend the extra $1,000 and buy new. Does the private seller's car have "extras" that most dealers seem to be willing to throw into a new car deal - splash guards, tray trunk, and wheel locks?

Good luck and please keep me posted what you decided.

Wondering if anyone is adding body side mouldings to their new TL's? Worth the expense?
  • nazzanazza Member Posts: 1
The posts on this board have been extremely helpful so I want to pass on my experience as well. On Sat I purchased an '06 TL w/ Nav for $32,100 including destination (TTL & processing fee not included) at Radley in Falls Church. I think I did ok given the other Northern VA posts. Their "best" offer was $32,615 and they did not have the color combination I wanted, I said my best offer is $32,000 and I only want the car in my requested color combination and am only buying w/ the finance deal, they said "can't do it", I left, 10 minutes into my drive home they called and miraculously found a car with the color combination I wanted and they offered $32,100. Took 2.5 hours for the whole deal (previously test drove a couple of weeks ago). The information on this board was great. Hope someone finds this helpful. Thanks

I am looking to purchase a 06' TL with Nav, and also want to add the body spoilers and alum chrome wheels. Has anyone had a good deal with NC dealerships?

thanks bill, it's really nice. I'm 55, not my first new car by a long shot. reminds me of my 2002 tii, faster more do-dads.

    love the nav and bluetooth.

how are some of you buying a 2006 tl with nav below invoice? i've seen posts where some have bought a tl with nav under $32,000 but the best offer that i've had in dallas is $33,000, including the destination fee. is acura offering some sort of factory to dealer rebate that is being kept from the general public?
  • dmarcus48dmarcus48 Member Posts: 139
I've gotten my last couple of cars by going through an "internet manager". What I do is email a couple of dealers in my area and explain what I'm looking for, asking them to email me their best price. I live in an area (nj) where there are probably six acura dealerships close to me. That's what I did this time, I emailed a dealer (user forums are good for this type of info), he emailed me back a price, I compared against another dealer and went with the one that was the straightest with me. No yelling, I very pleasant experience. I was able to get my tl auto w/nav for $200 under invoice, 32,655 including dest, not including tax, mv fees, doc fees.

I don't think you'd get the best price from a regular salesman.

    Dave
  • justalaguyjustalaguy Member Posts: 37
    Kalin02,

I don't think anyone is "getting" any special deals. Even though I have not yet purchased, been looking and finding out the more you inquire, the cheaper it seems to get. I have had dealers tell me the latest price quote I received of $31,550 was an "awesome" price. Whether the dealer can deliver on that price remains to be seen.

If not already, you might want to do a mass emailing of all the dealers in your area and have them compete against each other.

    Good luck in your search.
