I drove home with a TL this week and want to thank everyone in this forum for their help during the buying process. Based on your tips and experiences I was able to negotiate what I think is a smokin' lease deal on a 2006 auto TL with navi, iPod link and protection package. The winning dealership was Norm Reeves Acura in Temecula, a great group of folks who were very responsive to all my inquiries and quick to act throughout the process. Here are some details on the deal:

    MSRP: $36,300
    Negotiated price: $33,770
    Money factor: 0.00190
    Lease term: 48 mo.
    Base payment: $445
    Drive-off amt: $789

Hope this info is able to help someone else.

Can anyone recommend a good internet source for TL accessories. I found:
    http://www.handa-accessories.com
I want to buy some door edge trim and touchup paint. Thanks

    How many miles per year?

Does your "Base Payment" include sales tax?

    Thanks.

Sorry, I was off by 1,000 on the invoice. jrourke is correct.

Invoice is 30999. So it looks like about 1,000 over invoice in Chicago and 1,500 over invoice in STL. Although not bad with the extras and protection package.

I still think you could prob get another $500 off of that (in STL and Chicago). What did the STL dealers say about the Chicago price?
  • stlacurastlacura Member Posts: 26
Sorry I missed it that you are pricing a TL w/Nav. That is a pretty good price with Nav in STL. That is only about $700 over invoice.

Which dealer did you go through?

    First off...love my car!

Did research on consumer reports and here...of course. Found that Acura does have a 3% dealer holdback (roughly $1000) and that the base invoice was $30k. The dealer invoice (price they paid for the car) was $31k (but they get the $1000 back later).

After getting insulted at one dealership, I chose to go the route of email to get the job done. I wanted to pay no more than $31,500 OTD. I emailed the next closest dealer with the car I wanted, the specs and told them I wanted to buy in the next 48 hrs. He called me the next day, I offered my price (told them I would not pay a doc fee), said I would be there that day to sign and pick it up...............they said "when can you be here?" That dealer just made the quickest sale all year and took him no effort.

Advice: research and know what you want ahead of time. Fax or email offers and if they try to negotiate, move on...a dealer will react if the offer is reasonable. Good luck!

Anyone have input as to the best bidding strategy?
Should I tell a number of dealers what I want to pay or let them know I know what invoice and holdback are and let them bid?

Anyone have prices from Houston TX dealerships?

Like so many others I wanted to give something back for all the help I received from this forum while shopping for my new TL. This forum was an amazing resource!

I just purchased a 2006 Anthracite Metallic w/ Ebony Interior TL 6-speed manual w/o Navi in Milwaukee, WI for $30,900 + TTL. It took some negotiation but delivery was smooth.

Nice, congrats. Great color, but since my neighbor has an Anthracite, I had to go Abyss Blue. Just have to be different...!

Bought new Acura 05 TL in December 2004. Recently found out that left rear quarter panel and left rear door have been repainted. Also, the trunk lid is slightly misaligned. This had to have been done at some time prior to me getting the vehicle and it was never disclosed to me.

Went to the dealer and in fairness to them, the car was transferred to them for me. However, they did accept my money and I did business with them. So far, their response is only to offer to pay me a low trade allowance for the car. Nothing extraordinary to me. I think my next step is to go to Acura. What do you guys think? Thanks! :confuse:
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Someone else posted the same thing over in the Honda Civic forum. They bought an 06 Civic and noticed the next day the quarter panel didn't line up. But in their case the dealer did admit there was damage done while the vehicle was on the lot.
    .
Since it's been over a year, you're going to have a tough time proving it. Good luck.

Just paid $32,889 for TL with Nav Auto Silver ext. and black int. My wife loves it. The pony tail guy (don't want to mention his name for privacy) did charge me $400 for doc fees, but heck I got a very good service and professional demo of the car twice. Plus never felt being cheated as sometimes the case when dealing with car sales guys. I could have ask to lower further, but then I would have always felt there the car being sold to me must have something wrong. Both the pony tail dude and his supervisor, so called internet sales manager, spent an hour yesterday and today going over Acura features. Thus, paying $400 for doc fees I did not feel bad. After all they are there to make few bucks too like us. I do not know how true the hidden $1000 is from manufacturer to dealer that I keep hearing. Even if it is true I doubt the sales guys are getting anything. Probably going under dealer's pocket. Your call! Acura Carland on Satellite blvd and Old Norcross rd.

I bought a 2005 MDX new last August. A few months later, I discovered that the left rear door had been partially repainted (probably due to a scratch based upon the small affected area). The dealer and Acura USA were non-sympathetic. Perhaps there is a cost threshold that must be exceeded before it is considered to be a "repaired" vehicle that must be disclosed. It sounds like your repair involved more paint than mine did, though. The fit & finish issue on your trunk lid may be unrelated, however. Good luck with Acura!

Here is the rest of the post! I know that this price is probably average in the northeast but this is pretty good down here in Florida. Oh, and NO additional dealer fees (except those required by state/local law), just tag/tax. I worked exclusively with the internet guy and never visited the dealership in person or got a floor salesman involved. My offer was rejected in the middle of the month but was accepted on the last day of March. Always check back on the last day of the month and be ready to take delivery that day. Avoid hard sell dealer add-ons like warranties which pay up to 40% comission (or more). If you are leasing through American Honda Finance they get a big commission anyway. Expect a lot of grief about how little they are making on the car, etc. Holdback is 3% plus any dealer incentive on the vehicle in effect at that time plus monthly sales bonuses for the dealership - so don't fall for it. Since some dealers value margin over volume, this strategy may not work at you closest dealer. Do your homework.

Picked it up Friday 2006 auto nav door edges ...

By door edges, you mean the door edge guards and not the body molding, right? I was considering those but dealer didn't have any on cars to show me and the parts dept was closed. Are those edge guards plastic or metal? Thanks

I just bought an Acura TL with Nav in LA (31,700 not including tax and license) and am deciding whether to buy an extended warranty for the car 6 yrs - 100k miles for an extra $1400. What are your thoughts? Do Acura TL's have expensive repairs after the 4yr - 50k miles std warranty?

I plan to have the car for 6 yrs. Thanks.
  • jrourkejrourke Member Posts: 72
an extended warranty for the car 6 yrs - 100k miles for an extra $1400

If you chose to purchase a warranty, (1) I suggest you get one backed by Acura and not a 3rd party and (2) don't forget those prices are negotiable. Look online and you will find some places selling 6/100K Acura warranties for less than the $1400, for example hondacuraworld
  • iwantatliwantatl Member Posts: 25
no body moulding. I don't like it, ruins the lines. I presume the edge guards are plastic.

anyone purchase the dealer stuff like
5 years $499. they fix all dents, windshield nicks, tires, rims. I passed.

A TL w/nav for $31.7K?! That's one of the best, if not THE BEST price I've seen on this forum! This was after all fees other than TT&L? Wow! That's about what most are paying for a TL w/o nav! Was that an '06?
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,214
I (and others?) have suggested this before re: extended warranty. Take the $1400 and coservatively invest it (e.g. CDs, Treasury). After 4 years, you will have more than $1400 available for any necessary repairs post original warranty of 4/50k. If you don't need any expensive repairs, you still have YOUR money (plus interest)!

If you can't sleep at night without the extended, as suggested above, negotiate a factory backed warranty and be sure that you understand what is/is not covered and deductables.

    Hi.

After emailing back and forth with dealers in MD, VA and PA, I've gotten the following price. Any comments? Are any of the remaining items negotiable....such as gross receipts tax? I also assume a processing fee of 100 is more reasonable than 245. Also, anyone aware of the lease numbers for April? Thanks!

    car price: 30604.33
    va tax: 925.48
    2-year tags: 75.00
    title: 10.00
    gross receipts tax: 52.44
    Processing fee: 245.00
    Temp tag: 2.00
    Online DMV fee: 10.00
  • socalhelpsocalhelp Member Posts: 13
Thanks for your help. $1400 seems pretty expensive for an extended warranty.

I was hoping that I would not have expensive repairs that exceeded $1400 in year 5 and 6. Has anyone had any bad experiences?

How much can I expect to pay in maintenance each year for the TL?
  • socalhelpsocalhelp Member Posts: 13
    Yes..2006.

How much can I expect to pay in maintenance each year for the TL?

I'm still shopping and don't own the car, but check the page here at Edmunds (Reviews & Specs Tab/Costs and Deals) and theres a True Cost To Own section with estimates (data for my zip code area)

    Year 1 2 3 4 5 Total
    Maintenance $373 $654 $562 $1,388 $1,706 $4,683
    Repairs $0 $0 $0 $332 $507 $839

We are considering a certified 2003 TL w/ 25K miles, no nav. Light gold w/ beige interior. We are in the burbs of Chicago. The price is $20K. Is this a good deal? I am a little concerned bc this car is 4 yrs old & we are nervous @ transmission issues. We have a 98 integra that has had no recalls & only requires regular maintainence. For some reason, we are having a hard time making a decison. Does certification really mean anything? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Due to scheduling conflicts and non availability of the color that I wanted, I finally picked it up today afternoon. It comes with the protection package (trunk tray, wheel locks, ...) + tire fenders and a plastic shield on the door rims.

    Cost of car = $32,500/-

Now here is where I need ur advise:
    a) The dealer is trying to sell me an extended service contract that will cover the car for 6 years/70K miles. It will be an Acura contract and hence transferable if I decide to sell the vehicle. (If in those 6 years I don't make any claims, they will refund the money or offset it against the purchase of another car thru' any of their dealerships.) Cost = $695/-

    b) He is also trying to sell me the sealant package (interior & exterior) that will cover the leather, vinyl, etc ... for any accidental liquid spills or any other fading of paint, etc ... . Cost = $557/-

Are the above two worth? Has anybody on this forum have any experience on these? I read a lot that these are 'scams' by the dealer. But, in a real world, if a child spills koolaid or when we are trying to write down a note while driving and accidently mar the leather with ink, I would think these warranties come to use.

AW, your inputs will be appreciated.

    Thx,
    M

P.S: Love the car and gizmo.

what kind of price should i offer on an 05 TL w/navi... 17000 miles? Is 27 too little/much?
    Thanks.
    oh yeah..private party.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
    a) Taking in to account the manufacturers warranty, you're getting a 2 yr/20K warranty for $695. Not a bad price. You'll have to decide if the piece of mind is worth $695. Me? I'd never buy the ext. warranty on a Honda or Toyota product. But if you do, make sure it's backed by the manufacturer and not some 3rd party warranty.

    b) The sealant package is all dealer profit. Avoid this.
  • peteg1peteg1 Member Posts: 4
moose123 - What dealer did you get the price from. Including the processing fee, it still looks to be below invoice (assuming that the destination fee is included in your price).
  • moose123moose123 Member Posts: 15
Radley Acura, northern Virginia. I'm waiting now for them to come back with a lease price....And I believe that the destination fee is included (I just don't have the incoming email in front of me), but what I posted should be the out-the-door price.

$31,700!!! Where!?! I've been to South Bay and Cerritos and the lowest offer so far is:

    $32,200 - base
$271 - Protection package at dealer cost
$355 - for CA registration and write-up fees

I'm going to PlanetAcura in Downey (down the street from my work) today so if I can strong arm them into $31,700 I'll buy it right there and then. Any info you could provide on the dealership would be helpful. Thanks.

Got a black on black 06 TL from Gainesville for $32,965 OTD. Pretty cool I think considering they also threw in the protection package at no extra charge. Acura of Orange park was offering a deal for 200$ less but I found out just a little late!
  • jrourkejrourke Member Posts: 72
When you solicit quotes over the Internet, do you contact the dealers directly through their own web site or do you use the Edmunds site after building your configuration and select the dealers you want to hear from?

Since Edmunds TMV is a bit more than invoice, wondered if dealers might quote closer to TMV initially? Talked to a person that bought through a buying program and that dealer pulled out the Edmunds TMV when discussing price.

    Thanks

I visited a nearby dealership a week ago and was quoted $33.8k for an 06 TL with nav. I think this price is on the high side for my area (Nassau, New York). I believe a TL with nav can be had for about $33k (based on the posts here and elsewhere). The salesman was nice and I may want to give him the business. Do you think floor salesman can match the lower price usually given by internet salesman?
  • hkyhky Member Posts: 71
All the salesman eventually have to go thru their manager (which came down to the final pricing), but usually the internet salesman has the lower price than floor to start with, that save some of your valuable time from the usual car salesman game. However, once you deal with the floor salesman in a particular dealership, it may not be wise to find the internet salesman in the same dealership. Some dealership may not like this kind of competition within.

Is that with or without nav?. And after TTL?. Either way congrats on an awesome deal. LS

    I'm looking at a 2006 6-MT TL w/o nav, and I'm possibly trading in a 2001 2-door accord EX-leather w/5-speed and 84,000 miles.
At my visit to the dealer, they said they'd give me $10,500 for my trade-in (about $3,000 more than KBB value) but it would be sticker price for the car. Is it unreasonable for me to expect to get a good trade-in value like that, plus a markdown on the MSRP?? Please let me know your thoughts. A 6MT TSX is also a possibility, and their offer for that would be the same situation.
  • dairyshickdairyshick Member Posts: 129
Just to add to my situation, I live in the Fort Walton Beach/Destin area of NW florida...if that makes much of a difference in what I should be paying.

I just bought a 2006 TL w/o Navi at Boulder, CO yesterday.

Selling price $31442.89 (with protection pkg,+side molding)
    Handling $349
    Tax (8.21%) $2610.11
    Filing fee $29.50
    OTD $34431.50

I know this price is not good enough for east and west coasts. But I think it is not too bad at colorado.

Does anyone know about dealer cash available on the TL? Edmunds "incentives & rebates" link has a note under the financing incentives that says "Restrictions - $1000 dealer cash may not be combined with 2.9% - 4.9% APR"
  • invasianinvasian Member Posts: 19
you should allow people to email you if you want more responses.
First, I emailed the internet departments and got quotes, then I went around to the dealerships and got them to beat each other's quotes. Whichever dealership was the most professional (and also with the best price quote) won my business. Sterling Mccall won my business this time around. I was sick of going back and forth and settled on 33,200 for an 06 anth. auto w/ navi. you can get that price without trying basically anywhere in houston. I would rate my experience with Sterling Mccall an 8/10.

"I would be more than happy to sell you my TL / NAvi for $32,189 (includes destination, mud guard, wheel locks, and trunk tray)plus fees (ttl). The $189.00 is for our protection package which all TL's put on them to protect the vehicle. This is below our dealer cost even on this equipment. If interested let me know."
