I bought a new 2008 TL non navi for 31255 OTD. Thats about 28600 before tax and stuff. My tax rate is 8.25% I got it from Power Acura South Bay. The dealer at Cerritos auto squared said he was willing to beat the price, but won't tell me how much over the phone. I didn't bother to goto Cerritos auto square because the salesperson left me a bad impression over the phone. So you might be able to get cheaper if you tried. This is in Southern California.

There are only 2 dealers in Pgh. Baierl and Smail.
I was at Baierl yesterday and absolutely fell in love with an 08 TL non nav. Still cant afford it as they would only give me 16K for my 07 Camry trade in.
    I NEED THIS CAR

Good luck on the new TL, its an awesome car and in a year or so {anyone wanna buy an 07 Camry? :P } I will have one.
If you go to Baeirl, ask for Marybeth

There is also Spitzer Acura in McMurray, and if you don't mind a bit of a drive you can check out Boardman Acura in Ohio (you pay sales tax when you register the vehicle in PA). I haven't tried either of these but I may be giving them a try.

    First post!

As part of testing a number of entry level sport sedans, I test drove this vehicle today. Dealer is Acura of Denville, NJ. I told the salesman I am still shopping, he laid out his numbers without me asking for one:

    Invoice: 33,998
    MSRP: 36,940 (incl dest.)
his selling price: 32,650 (before TTL, etc)

This includes the curr factory-to-dealer $2000 incentive (so he said, looks about right)

His selling price is lower than Edmunds' TMV of $34,364. I thought TMV included incentives, maybe not?. Regardless, I think there is some bargaining room even with his sellng price. Do you think so too?

    Thanks,
    Scren Chez

    Welcome aboard!
For some reason Edmund's does not show the factory to dealer incentive on this vehicle. Even though I have seen some reports of sun $32k for this car, I am not sure how often that happens, but you should definately be able to get it for $32k plus TTL. (I had the trunk trtay, splash guards and the wheel locks also included in that price, northern ca).
  • screnchezscrenchez Member Posts: 2
    parviz,

Thanks for verifying the incentive is not showing on Edmunds for this car. The '08 TL w/ Nav is on the short list of vehicles deserving a more comprehensive test drive soon.

Thanks to your reply, but I can't find the $2000 incentive in NYC, so my wife and me went to pick to the car and we were able to ask the dealer to lower the price to $23995. The car is in excellent condition and even have (4) new Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires. I checked in tires.com and these tires costs $265 each! Yes, I know a new one without Nav will probably costs $31000 or so but like I said I really did not want to spend over $30K.
The car is really clean and has all the gadgets, and I really like the performance even though the car's low speed torque is not great. Over all, I am satisfied with my purchase. :)

I am being quoted 33K for a Acura TL with Nav. I am located in Massachusetts Based on the discussions on this forum that seems to be at least 2K more than what others are paying but these are all in California. Are there other people who have purchased on the east coast or more specifically in Mass.
  • mchalmersmchalmers Member Posts: 30
I got a quote of 30K including destination for a non NAV. I could push for another $500 off that number and feel I could get it. I would expect right under 32K with NAV. North Shore, MA dealer.

Has anyone seen Acura offer more than 2K later in the year?
  • bill1000bill1000 Member Posts: 38
I live near Philly and I have several quotes for right around $32000 for the TL w/nav (specifically 31,950 to 32,200). This includes destination but not TT&L. I think that would be a good target price for you stick with. I doubt Mass is much different than Pennsylvania with regard to pricing. I am a bit skeptical of people claiming they got one for much under $32,000 unless they had a trade involved, but I guess it's possible. Good luck.

Is it true the TL runs on premium only? if thats the case I don't want the car. Anyone here fill up with unleaded?
  • stu13257stu13257 Member Posts: 4
    Hi,
Bought my Acura TL back on Dec 22 2007, I recommend people negotiate with the dealer by drive out cost. After all that is what you are going to pay. It makes it easy to compare from dealer to dealer with Doc fees. For example actually numbers here:

2008 Acura TL with Nav MSRP 36,940 Invoice ???? who really knows?

    Price $ 31,942.38
    Doc Fee $ 495
    Tax 7% GA $ 2270.62
    Title $ 19
    Reg $ 20
    Lemon Law $ 3

    Drive out Cost was $34,750
    w/ 2.9 % finc as well

Included Trunk Tray, Lock Wheel Nuts, mud guards, and three free full detailing.

Yes they really do take premium only. You should defiantly use that to your advantage when notating as well. I recommend emailing first then give the dealers your cell and let them counter offer back in forth 2 days before you are really going to buy. Always be ready to walk! Regardless what you pay for this car I must really say I am extremely impressed with just how smooth this car rides and the craftsmanship of the entire car! You want be sorry for buying this car. Just my 2 cents.

Sure you can put regular in the car, but why would you want to? The mileage and power will drop, most likely beyond the point that it actually costs you more to run regular. It certainly was not worth it when I tried it with my Maxima, I am sure as hell not going to try it with my TL-S. If you really have to run regular for some reason (all fuel is unleaded BTW), the Cadillac CTS is designed to run on it. The Honda Accord is also designed for regular, but it has no manual with the V-6. I have to imagine though, that if you want to run regular, that a manual is not something you would drive. If you are not looking for performance, buy the Accord, the TL is NOT what you are looking for. The Hyundai Sonata is also a very good practical car that runs on regular 87 octane. You really can't go wrong with the accord or Sonata for your needs.
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,217
    Yes, 91 ocatane is required.

    Now for some quick math:

Where I am, premium is ~.20 more per gallon than regular unleaded. X15 gallons= +$3.00 over regular unleaded per fill-up. X 52 weeks= +$156 over regular unleaded per year. Now, you're considering buying a ~$32k vehicle, does the extra $156/year really break the deal for you? YMMV...

You can use 87 or 89, the engine mgmt. system will adjust. But as previously mentioned, you lose optimum performance and efficiency negating the savings. And, over the long run, possibly degrading the engine further...

As a salesman myself, I always look for agreeable salespeople when I shop for anything. In my attempts to get pricing for the TL, I was amazed at how low the dealers are going and how fast they do it. I guess that's the market, but in my business, I don't just give up the profit right away. Anyway, I'm also leery of car salesmen and the games some of them can play and was looking for someone who would take me serious and not play any games. I learned early on about vin etching and those sort of thing and didn't to get into that, I just wanted to buy the car. I emailed with several dealers and all were very polite and disclosed the "Pro-Packs" upfront like I asked. When it came down to crunch time, it got sour. I asked every dealer I was in contact with why I should buy from them. The response I got from Acura 101 West was sad and unfortunate especially since I live in Woodland Hills. Here's the thread and you guys can judge for yourself:

ME: Well you've been very helpful so far. I'm stuck between you and Sierra Acura right now. All the other dealers around here have agreed to match or beat your price, and they've all disclosed their extras so now I can really get this deal anywhere. Is there anything you can offer that would help me decide to buy from your dealership? I want to do this Wednesday night after work.

101: Nick why would you drive all the way to sierra you live on woodland hills! Iim sure I was the very first to answer your email. I'm selling you the car for nothing ,just trying to keep our customers ,making no money at all on this deal!!

101 AGAIN: Nick if you do the deal today I will beat it buy $100.00 ,if Wed will match Sierra deal!

ME: I asked you to sell yourself and the dealership and all you did was knock off $100. That's insulting. At this point it's not about money anymore or the distance. Quite frankly, it never was. I've been in sales for over 20 years and I'm looking for someone to sell me on why I should buy from them. You all gave out better pricing than I expected so I'll take it, but you're not selling here, you're just discounting. And if you'd like a piece of advice form a seasoned sales vet, you and every Acura dealer I've been in contact with over the last week or so are undercharging for your product. I'd never willingly sell my product for less than what I paid. Just something to think about. Probably lost me on this one, maybe next time. Best of luck to you,

Now here's where it get's ugly...

101: Nick that sound so stupid -you were looking for the cheapest price you could get!! And then you still wanted something else for free. Thats the biggest bunch of crap !!! I don't want your businees or need your business -Take your long drive to buy that car

I read these forums during my research and I'm sure many of you may disagree with my point of view on selling price and that's fine. What I'm trying to point out in this post is you don't ever want to treat a luxury buyer like that and that kind of attitude doesn't help this industry. I wish the best for this salesperson, but frankly I wouldn't buy there, won't even service my car there now. I'll have to go to Keyes for service. I'll probably do something this weekend and I still don't know where I'll give the business but I wanted to vent this frustration somewhere and knew this forum would understand. Thanks for hearing me out.

I'm going tonight to pick up my new 2008 TL with NAVI. The car has 6 miles on it. I live in Ohio. Here is what I paid:

2008 Acura TL with Nav MSRP ~36,940

    My Price $ 31,623
    Doc Fee/title/ $ 150
    Tax 6.75% OH $ 2144.68

    OTD - $33,917.68

I financed through my own bank.

I should take it over to Car Max to see what they will give me for it right after I buy it hehe Maybe I can make money off of the deal I got ;)

I forgot to mention I have NO trade-in.
  • xtabixtabi Member Posts: 11
I'm not sure I follow what you are saying. All I know is that I never go into a dealership to 'get pricing' as you say.

What I do is GIVE my price to dealerships. I don't waste time taking to salesmen. I go directly the the managers via the interent. That is why I always get what I want...my price. I am picking up an 08 TL w/ NAVI tonight for 31,600. All it took was one simple email stating my price and terms.
  • willis3willis3 Member Posts: 76
If CarMax will give you more money than you paid for the car, let me know and I'll go and do the same thing. :P
  • humblecoderhumblecoder Member Posts: 125
You wanted no games. The salesperson gave you a low price without any games. Then you chide him for giving you a low price without any games. What am I missing here?
  • humblecoderhumblecoder Member Posts: 125
ME: Well you've been very helpful so far. I'm stuck between you and Sierra Acura right now. Is there anything you can offer that would help me decide to buy from your dealership? I want to do this Wednesday night after work.

I read your quote again more closely. After reading it again, I am even more confused by your bad attitude.

I know you say that you were looking for the salesperson to sell themselves or the dealership, but you didn't really explain it that clearly in your email. Your statement now I can really get this deal anywhere followed by Is there anything you can offer that would help me decide to buy from your dealership? implies that you are looking for something of "monetary" value to sweeten the deal.
The salesperson was just doing what you had asked.

Then when you get all indignant at him for doing EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAD ASKED to close the deal, he is upset and understandably so. Perhaps he should have been a little more diplomatic in his response; however, I totally sympathize with him.

In fact, after reading your story, I'd be MORE inclined to visit the dealership in question since it seems like they will go to great lengths to close deals.
  • chirocatchirocat Member Posts: 73
That's a shame. I guess I am lucky that I didn't have to deal with that kind of stuff. In the Dallas/Fort Worth area we have 4 Acura dealers, one is just a couple miles from my house and one is close to my business. I got a no-BS quote on the first day from a dealer about 25 minutes from my house, it turned out to be the lowest price quote by about $3000! 2 of the dealers wouldn't even give me quote online. Not only did this place have the best price, and the car I wanted, they had great service. Even the salesman (internet manager) was great, he was the most knowledgeable salesman I have talked to (with respect to the TL-S). I have no regrets at all, I love my 08 TL-S more each day and the dealer continues to back up their first impression. I expected better service than the Honda dealers and got it, it's a shame there are some less professional Acura dealers. BTW, one Honda dealer and salesman stood out. They were in west Fort Worth and offered a much better experience than the other Honda dealers, almost Acura level. (just thought I would throw that in . So if anyone is looking for an Acura in the DFW area, head towards Texas Stadium, if you know what I mean. If you want the internet managers name and number, just ask and I will send it.

    Here's my two cents.

Neither the buyer or salesperson come off looking good in this. If pricing really wasn't the main reason for buying from a dealership, then you should have started out with that objective in your first contact. Instead, you chose to discuss price first.

I have no idea what exactly you were looking for, but what you're asking sounds condescending and rude to the salesman. You want him to hold your hand? Give you a backrub? Promise that he'll always be true to you? You're buying a car for crying out loud.

And let's be honest, you're not a luxury buyer. You're buying an Acura. Spend $50k+ and then you might start getting some royal treatment. Or buy a vehicle that you have to pay sticker for because of the demand. Until then, you're buying a Honda with a different badge on it.

Again, the main focus here is on pricing with an offhand remark about great service. I have no doubt that the dealership she was talking to had great service as well. That's where the real money is made.

For whatever reason, she is talking herself out of buying a vehicle. It just sounds like cold feet to me.

Can anyone let me know of a acura dealer in NNJ with competitive pricing. I look a bit and the best deal i've had so far is $32000 for a 2008 Model w/Nav

    thks.

When I meant service, I didn't mean the "service department", I have not dealt with them yet except for having my windows tinted after the sale, since they didn't have time when the did the PDI on my car. The car was not ready for me to take home that afternoon so I had to drive home in a TSX loaner. My office is on the other side of the metroplex and quite a ways out of my way to make it to the dealer. The internet sales manager (my salesperson) drove my car to my office and picked up the loaner. He didn't have to do that, but it really made my day easier.

Also, in the area I was referring to, the service of the sales personnel through the sales process was great. There were snags, first with my own credit unions financing, then the unwanted an unexpected upward swing in payments with shorter term loan the finance manager was able to get me. Even with that, they were able to swing the price and a few extras into the deal to get my payments more comfortable. I am also very thankful that the car was not all tarted up with dealer adds like some of the local deals tend to do. Honestly, one dealer (Acura, Honda,
Toyota etc) had MORE than $4000 in adds to a 2007 Accord EX!!! 4k adds on a 23k car!!! The only thing the dealer I used had insisted on was the security etching, and I am ok with that. It's easy to get cold feet on such a large purchase, I don't blame people, but I think the salesperson makes or breaks that part. I never felt uncomfortable at this place, but wanted to run away from a couple others BEFORE a test drive! :surprise:

I hope that is more clear. :P I'm just very happy with my treatment and will shamelessly plug these guys all day. My business relies on referrals, maybe that's why I plug people who work hard for you, I respect that.
  • madmanmoomadmanmoo Member Posts: 2,039
100% agree with your post. The folks you talked to worked to earn your business. The salesperson that this original poster was talking to tried to do everything he could as well to accomodate.

This woman, who will probably never post again, acts like she deserves something extra special. The salesman has enough and unfortunately unloads on her. I have no respect for people like that. She's telling HIM that she's insulted by a discount and then telling him how to do his job. Get a life, lady.

Just had a great experience at Acura of Ocean. I just leased a 2008 Acura TL for 36 months and 10,000 miles a year. The sticker on the car was $34,440. After everything was said and done, I ended up putting down $2,000 TOTAL out of pocket. Thats tax, tags, security, first month, etc. Monthly payment is $377. I think I got a good deal. This dealership also gives you free oil changes for your ENTIRE lease agreement. There is a $1,500 alotment at the end of the lease for scratches etc. and there is no turn in fee at the end of the lease. All in all I think I negotiated a good deal.

    Wow..

I bought my TL TypeS from them and it was a FABULOUS experience for us! We test drove there, then did some price comparisons. Found a cheaper price & they met it (back in July 07). Our salesman was very friendly & helpful and went out of his way for us. We had nothing negative at all to say about any of the people we encountered during our 3 trips there. (They were very patient with us, even though I wanted to test drive the car multiple times).

They stood by their quote, had the car ready when promised, and it was a stress-free sale. I did have to buy the door etching (it was done prior to our purchase). No big deal. We got an excellent price and I love my car!

I have not been in for service yet, my car still only has 3900 miles on it. They told me to wait 'until the car tells me I need service'. So that's what I am doing.

I am not sure what you were expecting from them, beyond the good price. If you go spend $100k on a car, then maybe you'll get some special treatment, but really - Acura 101 West is a great place to buy a car!

This information may be dated, but hopefully it helps you out somewhat. I bought my 2006 Acura TL 5speed AT with Navigation brand new in June, 2006 for $32,750.

Quite honestly, I may have been able to get a slightly better deal, but I had burned my bridges at all the other dealerships who blatantly tried to screw me. I did my homework, and based on the average price people in my area were paying for the car, it was several hundred dollars below that.

I bought it at Acura of Boston (in Mass., obviously). I hope this helps!
  • spankydogakspankydogak Member Posts: 5
I just picked up a 2006 TL (Private Party transaction) in Anchorage, AK. I mention that because we only have (1) Acura dealer in the state. That lack of competition seems to have inflated prices up here when compared to lower 48 pricing. You can buy in Seattle and ship up here but that usually adds at least another $1,000 to the cost of the vehicle.

    Here's what I got for $26,000:

2006 TL (Anthracite Metalic) with 18,500 miles. Car is in excellent condition inside and out. The primary driver was a 50+ yr old lady with no kids. All service records were current and there was a clean Carfax.

    Accessories:

Extra set of wheels with bridgestone summer tires on Acura chrome rims (the stock alloy rims are on the car now and are set up with studded tires).

Clearbra all around (Bumper, hood, lights, fenders).

    Upgraded steering wheel w/wood trim.

    Wood trim on front/rear console.

    All weather Acura mats front/rear.

    Color keyed mud guards.

Moon roof and door visors (they will be coming off immediately).

    Engine Block Heater.

I'm pretty sure this is higher than what a L48 buyer would pay, but based on what I've seen up here it's the best deal I found.

Where in Ohio did you buy?

I got my wife's MDX at Acura of Cleveland.

I've got an Audi A4 now which is fine but if the '08 TL's are really being discounted than I am tempted. I had a TL-S loaner about two months ago. Loved the power! The gas miles sucks compared to the Audi Turbo (which still spins its wheels on take-off) and the radio isn't as good but it would be nice to have something that is a little bigger inside than the A4.
  • wbrookwbrook Member Posts: 7
I went from an A4 1.8t into the 07 TL-S because of the deals they were giving back then (similar to now actually) Very happy with the TLS. Sure there are better cars in that range and there's a new A4 on the way, but with the Acura incentives it can't be beat. There's plenty of power and plenty of tech to keep the car current for years. As an aside, my wife has an MDX as well. Bought them both in GA from Jackson Acura through a sales guy who was active in the acurazine.com and acuraworld.com forums - which are also great resources before buying.

    Good luck with your decision.

I've been looking at the TL-S a lot lately. test drove about 4 of them - both sticks and autos.

the one thing that I hate about it is the torque steer. it drives great, decent power, and corners pretty flat, but if you get on it, you do get torque steer.

I recently test drove a used 2006 RL that had only 10k on it. it also had the factory aspec body kit/wheel package. i honestly think it looks better than a TLS - more upscale, and less ricey, while still looking aggressive..yet in a subtle way.

not quite as fast - but it feels TWICE as nice inside. it has a very upscale/luxurious look..and I had a chance to really push the RL through a twisty set of roads, and the SHAWD system seems to keep the car more composed through turns. whereas the TL will start to plow... the RL just keeps going.

you can tell it's a bigger/heavier car, and on the "fun" factor level it may be a notch lower...but it probaby actually handles BETTER on a long sweeper or a cloverleaf on/off ramp.

the price of a low low mileage used RL is near what you'd pay for a new TL-S.

RL is way more car. now i've got more decisions.

    Hi DJDJ,

I bought mine at Linsay Acura in Columbus. This is the second Acura I have bought from them. They had no problem doing 31,600 on the car. If you check their website you will see they currently have 91 TLs. They must be a volume dealer or something. They do a top notch job, no BS.

I have been following the comments on this forum and they were a big help to me while shopping for our '08 Acura TL w/Navi. We just bought on Sat the 19th, so I thought that I would give our info just in case someone else is in the market.
We paid $30,773 which included the destination fee but did not include ttl. I sent out emails to four dealers the previous Mon. and this was the only quote that I received a response on. I then contacted more dealers, but none of them even bothered to get below invoice cost. We test drove a couple more cars during the weekend and then last Thu. I looked on their website, saw they had the color I wanted, sent an email asking them to have the car ready and that I would be there on Sat. to pick it up. We got to the dealer at 1:30 pm and left around 3:45pm.
I have NEVER in my life been a party to such an easy transaction! I couldn't believe the price, the service and the time. I would recommend our location to anyone now! I give them 5 out of 5 cars. :):):):):)

Thats what I was thinking too.
I was a salesman for 6 years in a nationwide health club chain. Not major $30K deals but still dealt with SERVICE and contracts etc. I was the type of salesman that sold on service, I had a service to offer other than the club itself, I had ME to offer. I could give myself to my members more often to help work out, give gifts too {hats, t-shirts} and be there for the members.

I dont know how much service a car dealer can give, "Backrubs" :P brilliant

I was gonna say "Didya want him to pick up your suits at the dry cleaners?"It seemed more to me a 'contest' and a challenge for the OP ed. of this to the salesman, IF your a good enough salesman for ME than you get my business.
To a point he has a point, its his money and his hard work to deal it out to whichever salesman convinces him that he is worthy of his money but in the end, its about feeling comfortable with a dealership and getting the best bottom line price and being able to go back for service and getting top notch service.

Service guys dont give a rats poop about your sales pitch etc. They could even make your car owning experience bad...

I still wish I could get a TL and one day I will get one.
  • xtabixtabi Member Posts: 11
Sure not a problem jaymk. I bought it at Lindsay Acura in Ohio.

I have about 350 miles on it now. I like it :)

The decision was between this car and a BMW 335XI. This car was such a great deal we could not pass it up. It was about $20,000 less than what the BMW was going to be spec'd with the same options.

Ours was Power Acura in Torrance, CA. Speak with J.E. in the internet department. We had been looking at the Honda Accord EX-L with Navi, but for 2k more we are now driving the TL. I would really recommend getting the Navi with the TL if you can. It is really great. Stereo integration and easy to use touch screen. Anyway, good luck shopping all!

I just purchased a 2008 Acura TL w/navi and the information gathered through this forum should helped quite a bit during the whole process. The car was bought at Metro Acura in Montclair, CA and the internet department there (especially Mario) was very professional and helpful.

    My price:
    31,150 - car
    after TTL = 33,900

The price was about 150 bucks more than what I was offered at another dearlership, but Metro Acura threw in wheel locks, same color mudguard, trunk tray and fender trim.

I'm looking to have a custom stereo installed in my 2006 Acura TL w/ Nav. The existing system is great for stock, but not quite what I'm looking for.

I was wondering if anyone has done this to their car and what suggestions / feedback you may have.

I'm thinking of getting a 10" or 12" top of the line subwoofer w/amp (I would ideally like only 1 as opposed to 2+ subs to conserve trunk space. I was also considering gutting the speakers and having new ones installed and also amplified.

The catch is I want to be able to access / control everything through the stock / existing touch screen Navi system, which I have been told is possible. Also, the known rattling condition in these models is a bit of a concern as well.

    Please advise. Thanks!!

Might try Acura TL Audio for that.

Acura had a $2K incentive going at the end of the year on TLs, which was why some of us were seeing prices near $2K under invoice. An Acura sales guy I've been in contact with since then told me the other day that Acura is again offering more incentive dollars.

Anyone know anything about that? Is this just a continuation of the $2K, or have they sweetened the deal even further?

It is simply a continuation of the $2k incentive from December. They never dropped it. It is "officially" in place from 1/3/08 until 3/3/08. The cheap financing did not carry over though. Does anyone actually know what invoice is? I have not found it clearly listed anywhere.

I was recently quoted $34,653 all in (out the door cost) for an Acura TL with Nav is this a good price?

Without knowing what the tax/title costs are its impossible to say. You should quote the price and list fees separately, then people might be able to give you a better idea.

For instance, for an 08 TL/Navi I paid $31,800 including destination, plus 7% philly sales tax and $110 in title/registration with the 2.9% financing (don't think the financing is still available) on December 29.

    Beats me???

What is your tax rate? Do you have a trade? Are you using the dealers financing?

If your price before tax is not below invoice by at least 3,000 than you are not getting the best price.

    I paid 31,600 + Tax (6.75%) = $33,733 OTD

So that is about 900 less than what you are paying for the same car. If your tax rate is the same is mine than I would say that is not a good deal at all. If your tax rate is a lot more than mine than maybe that deal is not so bad.

I'm interested in buying an '08 TL-Nav, and am trying to decide whether this is a good time to buy. I'm not in a hurry, and it seems like once the advertising campaign kicks off for the 2009 redesign, dealers might be cutting prices even more to move the older model. I guess I am asking whether you expect the sale incentives to get much better than they are now during the summer months. Or is this about as good as you expect it to get on the 2008s?
