I purchased a TL type S (MSRP $38,900+ accessories) for $34,900 + tax and registration including following accessories: All season floor mats Carbon fiber trim Carbon fiber rear console trim Carbon fiber steering wheel Trunk tray Splash guards Body side molding Wheel locks
Not a good deal in my area. The most I would pay is Invoice minus dealer cash which is $29695 ( = $31695 - $2000). I was offered $31.6K for TL with Nav which is Invoice - dealer cash - 1/2 holdback but I did not bite because they have no color that I wanted (light gold + taupe).....
$31.6K is without tax but this is for TL with Navigation; yours is base TL. You're right that the price is regional thing.....and I think the best is on the West Coast California.
If you accept that you paid about $365 for the wheel locks, mudflaps and all weather mats, then you really did pay invoice minus $2000. You might be able to get those items for around $250 on the internet, but so what. It's still a very good deal for you on the car I believe.
It looks like you purchased the car and did not lease the vehicle. Good price I think. I'm still looking to Lease the TL but from what I've read I may not be able to get the cash back (- $2,000k) off MSRP.
So what I am going to do is go into the dealer ask for invoice Price 0f 31,700. I'm in So Cal (Orange County) so if anyone knows of a good dealer let me know.
I'd like to get the extra $2k discount ($29,700) for base TL but because I am leasing the care so I am not sure I can.
Also does anyone know, is the residual on a lease based on the MSRP or the negotiated price?
Inovice on a base TL with Navigation (i.e. not an S) is $33,928, including the $715 destination charge. There's a $2,000 manufacturer to dealer incentive right now for the TL, only applicable on a purchase, so people are offering invoice ($33,928) less the incentive ($2,000), and coming up with a selling price of $31,928. If your dealer's desparate, maybe you can get him to go lower, eating into his holdback.
Unfortunately, the $2k incentive doesn't apply to leases, so it would be hard to get a capitalized cost as low as that purchase price.
So really all I can negotiate when doing a lease is the Invoice price, correct? ($33,928) on a TL w/navi, and $30,900 with-out Navi. Not the dealer incentive.
I'm going into Mission Viejo Acura next week with the information I have learned here and buy me a TL!
I'M VERY INTERESTED IN BUYING AN ACURA TL WITH NAVI. I'M ENCOURAGED BY THE QUOTES OF FOLKS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HERE FROM PEOPLE IN MY AREA ....ESPECIALLY INSKIP IN RI AND SUROUNDING DEALERS IN MASS. THANKS
My lease is up on my mazdaspeed 6 and am looking at acura TSX or TL and the lincoln MKZ. There are good lease programs on all three right now.Any input would be appreciated.
I've seen a couple of posts in your area for right around $32,000 for a base TL with navi. This includes the $2000 dealer incentive and destination. TT&L extra.
Just bought the TL w/Nav at Herb Connolly in Framingham, MA. Had gone to Boston Acura and got a quote of $2,000 under invoice. Told them I would think about it. Next day, I said that I was ready to buy if they would throw in some accessories (all season mats, wheel locks, splash guards). No way they said, already too close to their cost.
Gave Connolly a call to see if the smaller but more local dealer could beat the big Boston dealer. They were glad to help and gave me a offer with all of the requested accessories @ $31,900. Probably could have squeezed a few more dollars but I think $2,100 under invoice plus the accessories was a worthwhile deal. Polished Metal with Taupe.
Thanks to all the posts I read while researching the car. They saved me me $1000s!! :shades:
Felt good to get a good deal after the hangover for the last week after the Super Bowl fiasco
Does anyone have a reference as to where to get a good deal on Leasing or buying a TL in Orange County, L.A, or S.D? That offered the $2k incentive after getting to the invoice price?
Hi Rukiddingme1, here are the quote I got from different dealer at Los Angeles. I'm planning to purchase a 2008 Type-S Auto and hopefully they will have speical financial (1.9 or 2.9% APR) promotion for purchasing. I believed all the quote are included the cash back already. Anyone of you know if the cash back or incentive end soon? Thanks!!!
- Acura 101 West o Type-S: $33,233 included destination charges o Type-S with HPTP: $33,416 included destination charges
- Acura of Glenda o Type-S: $33,333 included destination charges
- Santa Monica Acura o Type-S: $33,232 included destination charges
- Planet Acura o Type-S: $33,940 included destination charges
- Sierra Acura o Type-S: $33,757 included destination charges • Color Matching Splash Guards • Wheel Locks
Thanks aychen, I have sent them a request for quote , along with 5 other dealerships.
That price of $32,700 seems pretty good. If you go back it looks like others payed less. You didn't give any details on your purchase. Lease? Purchase, TTL, Destination charge? What was your invoice cost? Did you get the dealer cash? Did you go into the Holdback?
I did requested a quote from the Power South Bay Acura at Torrance and it was the highest price I received compared with 7 other dealers around the LA area. The quote they gave me was $35,637. I also went to the dealer last week to test drive the Type-S. I only saw few brand new TL and Type-S on their roof and the dealer was extremely small compared with other dealers I visited from the past. However, the sale representatives were very nice there.
Hi aychen, do you still have the copy of the quote of $32,700 on the email? Thanks!
Hi rukiddingme1, do you have some quotes from any dealer at OC? Thanks!
Hey dimsumlo, I only have one quote back and that was from Power Acura South Bay in Torrance for a TL w/Navi. MSRP quoted was $36,940. Price quoted was $32,816. I do not know if this was with destination charge or not. I have 4 other quotes out to Orange County dealerships and I should have by tomorrow as they have all contacted me. The other dealership is in Cerritos. I will post prices tomorrow.
Hey dimsumlo, Yes I am only asking for quotes on the TL base model and the TL with Navi. Maybe I should shop the S-model with all these great prices I see for them on this site!
Hi rukiddingme1, I will definiely go with Typ-S for myself. I think its only $1500~$2500 or less different and you will get all those extra from TL w/Nav.
- 3.5-liter V6 engine for 286 horsepower - Quad exhaust pipes - Restyled taillights and front fascia - Lip spolier - LED lights - Brembo breaks - Dark silver 10-spoke wheels - Unique two tone Type-S trim on the headrests and steering wheel - Racing pedals - Carbon fiber trim - Red interior lighting (as opposed to blue in the base TL)
Rukiddingme1!!! GO WITH TYPE-S!! hahaha (i'm not a sale person)
Hey dimsumlo, If you were my salesman I probably would have driven off with the TL-S with that kind of salesmanship! I actually like my cars to fly under the radar so the TL with Navi with black on black is good for me (batman style).
The price of $32700 included the destination charges but without TTL and this was a purchase. I have not seen any price less than it for a Type-S. This included the dealer cash and nearly 3% of the holdback.
Did you speak with the fleet manager? I got the price from the Power South Bay Acura at the beginning of the year through the fleet department. This was the lowest number I got (without any negotiations) compared to other dealers around the LA area. However, they didn't have the color I was looking for at that time but had one coming at the beginning of Feb. I waited almost 3 weeks for the shipment and I got the car 2nd day after it arrived at the dealer. I don't know if this affect the pricing or not.
Yes, the dealer was smaller compared with other dealers. But, they seems to move the car pretty fast.
I read on the RL forum that Honda recently majorly increased cash incentives on some Honda models....apparently it was implemented on Friday... and thisposter claimed they were large increases to move some models.
anyone hear anything about it and has Acura done the same on any models?
I was the poster on the Ridgeline forum (I've also been looking at Acuras). The Honda incentive increases seem to have been on only the Ridgeline and the Pilot, in each case going from $1500 to $3500. A dealer told me about it on Friday, and Edmunds has confirmed it in the "Latest Incentives" list. It doesn't look like Acura's changed anything.
where those increased incentives for purchases only, or did they work on leases too? I believe Acura now has a $2000 incentive on the TL...but you can ONLY use it if you PURCHASE.
if you lease, you get a a.00045 MF....so essentially, instead of getting 2k off the price of the car, they use that money to buy the rate down and give you a smokin low interest rate and get the lease payment down...since the residuals arne't the best, they need to put money into thel ease somehow..and they do it on the MF to make the payment decent.
i wonder if the deals may get better ont he TL as time wears on. i've talked to a few people in the car busines and have been told that it's BAD now. one guy said it's the worst he's seen it EVER and he's been in the business for 25 years.... if cars keep sittin on lots, and new models start rolling in, the car manufacturers are goin to have to sweeten the deals even more or they will really be screwed.
on the TL, especially with a new model about to be released.. i'm hoping the MF gets even lower, or some kind of rebate is introduced to get the payment down even more. my goal is a TL Type S with ZERO down, a sign and drive deal, for about 450-475/month. the best i've been quoted so far was 525. I want another 50-75 bucks off before I do it.
ic!! Thanks for the information. I'm currently waiting for the special financial interest rate for purchasing. Hopefully Acura will come out some kind of special financial options for TL on the beginning of March.
Why are you guys who live in Cali, and nice weather areas, want a TL? I live in the north where it snows so FWD, is better than RWD in those conditions. But If I lived somewhere where I get less than an inch or none, I'd be driving a RWD car. I'm not bashing the TL though, I own one
I guess your right. I bought the TL because it was a Honda, therefore expecting it to be quality. I had infiniti G35x prior, but was always in for repair because electrical devices failed. BMW is planning to reduce more costs in the next few years, so expect BMW quality to decline further than where it is now [there not what they were, same goes with MBenz]. I just read an article in a magazine, that says the car of choice that's becoming popular for world leaders now is the Lexus LS, and not a German car.
Actually the G35 is not a "better" car, just different. If you plan on driving at 8-9/10's all the time, drifting around corners and don't car about fuel mileage or daily civility, the G35 is a better choice. But why buy a sedan if you are gonna drive like you are on a race track every day? Why not a purpose built sports car? Need something practical? Well that is were the G35 fell behind in my decision.
I am an enthusiast driver and I do drive hard most of the time, but I had to be realistic and admit that 90% of the time (or more) I am simply just driving the car to work. My commute would have the G35 6M running at 3200 rpm where the TL-S is running a more sedate 2750 rpm. That ends up being quite a difference in fuel mileage. Not that I care THAT much( I would have bought a Jetta Diesel if I did), but If I have a choice between two similar cars and there is 3-4 mpg difference, I'll take the better mileage. The G35 is also a little less refined in engine note with extra noise transmitted through the shifter. Engine wise the TL-S could stand to be a tad louder because it actually sounds so darn good. I really don't get how Infiniti could make a car with 6 speeds and not have 6th as a real overdrive, even with that big, torquey 3.5 liter engine.
Add to the practicality with Honda reliability and a price advantage, plus the car insurance is $400 a year more, the TL-S was the winner although it was a compromise dynamically. When I was in my 20's I could have put up with more, but I am now 40 and expect more for my money, especially if I am only going to drive 1 car. The G35 did have a neat laser cruise control option which could even pre-prime the brakes, but that pushed the price even higher. The best deals I could get on a G35 was around $37-38K, I closed on my TL-S for $33.9K.
There have only been a few times I wished I had RWD, and of course that is so I could use power oversteer around a corner instead of plowing. Other than that powering out of corners, you hardly feel the FWD. We have had no snow yet this year here in Texas, but last year a G35 Sport would have been a garage queen(comes with summer tires). It would not have been usable on the roads, granted that was only a couple days, but I do have to get to work.
Bottom line is: I love the G35 and it was a tough decision, but I have no regrets, especially money wise, I saved 5k off the top, $400 a year in insurance and about $350 a year in fuel costs......... the TL-S becomes a bargain. One way I helped myself was to make a spreadsheet with an ordinal ranking system of my needs and wants. I gave each area a certain amount of points then individually ranked the top contender cars. The TL-S won, the Legacy GT came in second (It was the most tuner friendly, plus AWD and 6MT), the Cadillac CTS-V took third by a nose over the Infiniti G35. This was because not only was it RWD, it was tuner friendly and started with 400 hp and had huge emotional appeal for me. Fortunately this process helped bring me back to reality, a realm that the TL-S rules.
Purchased a 2008 TL with Navi last week from Sunnyvale (CA) Acura in response to an internet quote of $30,997 (incl. dest., but before TTL). This is approx. 3K below dealer's published cost. The salesman told me that they sold it at a loss because they are trying to move their inventory in order to get a larger allocation of the redesigned 2009 TL. Only a handful of their cars were on sale at that price. I was fortunate enough to get the colors I wanted (alabaster silver and taupe).
I was very close to settling for a 2008 Accord EX-L, V-6 with Navi (with the rearview camera accessory) at approx. $29,750. For only $1200+ more I decided to get the TL.
I have secured a deal in NJ. Lease factor : .00045 Residual : 51 % with 15 k miles Selling price *35,320 (300 below invoice) TYPE S model 5spd auto 36 month term $495 a month includes 7 percent state tax (33 bucks) No money down, 1200 inception fees.
I have montiored the local dealers inventory and notice the type S models are selling more than the Base TL with Navi. This simply means, the mid tier model are not selling well but the type S models will be in limited supply as we reach the 2nd quarter. It is likely there will be an incentive for the leasee...but dont expect 2000 lease cash. At best honda will provide 500 lease cash. However, they can opt to boost the residual rates to bring the lease payment down. I have never seen a lease factor lower than 1 percent with 8 years of leasing experience.
Conclusion, if you are in the market to grab a type s, if you wait, you risk of having limited color choices and transmission. If you are in the market for a tl with navi, i suggest to wait it off as it will slightly get better in the form of rebates and there is plenty of supply around NY NJ area.
For the lease beginner, you always want to ask for the lease factor. The figure will always be .00*** to calcuate the APY rate just multply lease factor x 2400
Why would you want to know this? Simply to know how much of your money is going to interest.
Residual Rate: This is the buyout cost at the end of the lease. This is viewed differently depending on the circumstances. If the Residual rate is low, the lease payment will inflate. Not good for leasees. However, if you love the car, your buyout is less. Flip it around and its the total opposite.
I secured the deal because my hunch is, the type S model will be limited and the rebate will not be much as Honda is expected to inflate the lease factor. In the end, , lease rebates its just a tactic to bring in customers to the showroom. This is pretty much as good as it gets if you ask me.
I do not expect the TL type S to be at 51 percent value in the next 3 years. These cars hold their value much higher even when a new model is introduced. Besides, Acura is taking a chance of their styling direction to "stand out" It is a big risk.
*Side Note: All acuras have a 3 percent holdback based on the MSRP of the car. When dealers sell the car below invoice, they will always say, they are not making any money. In reality, its not true. They are just willing to chip away from the dealer holdback. This occurs only when dealers are desperate to move their inventory. So for an acura tl type S, the total holdback is $1142 - with this deal they get roughly just 900 bucks profit. (this will be split to sales rep and other Overhead costs) The real profit is likely to be minimal to none. Either way, this is a great deal to the consumer. -G
I worked with the internet dept. of Sunnyvale Acura in Silicon Valley over the weekend. I started discussing a TL with them, then asked for a quote on an MDX, and bought one of those yesterday. Still, the TL quote I got was very attractive, and I still sort of regret letting that one go. (Btw, they also gave me an excellent lease offer on a TL, I'll post that in the leasing thread). For a base TL with navigation, here was the purchase deal:
MSRP: $36,940 (including destination)
Purchase Price: $30,997; basically they came in at $1000 under invoice (including destination) and threw in the full $2k dealer cash incentive on top of that. This was their opening email offer, with no negotiation. They had 4 or 5 colors available at that price.
They indicated that the 2.9% (36 month) or 4.9% (60 month) financing deal from the MDX/RDX was available on the TL as well, but not the 2.9% 60 month deal, which was apparently only available in certain states, not including California.
After dealing with a number of car sales folks of various makes over the last few weeks and coming away with a jaundiced view of humanity, I was very happy with the experience at Sunnyvale - very quick, friendly, honest and painless. If I want another Acura (and the new-gen TSX turbodiesel could be very appealing), I'll do my research but go straight to them.
I received a quote from Sunnyvale Acura internet dept. and within a week I bought a TL with Navi. for the same price (see previous post). By the time I went to see the cars the ext./int. color combination I wanted was sold but they had another one in stock which was not on their sale list. They got approval to sell it to me for the quoted price. This was the best car buying experience I have ever had---no haggling over price, very friendly people to deal with, and car was ready for pickup on time.
I was soooo close to buying a TL w/navi from Sunnyvale Acura for the same quoted price ($30,997 includes dest fee). BUT, I also really liked how the Type-S drove and looked so ended up going for the TL Type-S for $33,200 (includes dest fee) from Hopkins Acura. The best I could do from Sunnyvale on the TL Type-S was $33,500.
I just got a quote on a TL Type S in St Louis for a 36 month 12K lease: Price: 37,687 Residual: 53 Acq Fee:595 doc fee: 159 no money down payment : 556 per month
I got to the dealership 30 minutes before closing and didn't have time to negotiate, i will go back and purchase the vehicle i am shooting for 33,300 for the purchase price including destination and documentation.
Your being offered a fair deal. Even if you shop around, maybe, and thats maybe you will get $200 less from someone else. All else, your got a great deal
I want to purchase a 2008 TL Type S (manual transmission) in the Maryland/DC area. I’ve been reading all the posts but haven’t found any from my area. The $33,200 prices quoted from some California dealers don’t seem to be available around here. The invoice price I found on Edmunds is $35,117. So, subtract 2% dealer holdback, subtract $2000 for dealer cash and you have a dealer’s cost of $32,338.
So, are these reasonable offers? Are those California prices without the destination charge? Because I want a manual transmission, I don’t think I’ll be able to negotiate much – Acura doesn’t seem to make many. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you purchased the car and did not lease the vehicle. Good price I think.
I'm still looking to Lease the TL but from what I've read I may not be able to get the cash back (- $2,000k) off MSRP.

I notice people buying TL's with Navi for the invoice cost of 31,700.
Does anyone know how they are doing that?
I want to lease the car with Navi but how can I get that MSRP down to 31+?
And how about accessories?
Unfortunately, the $2k incentive doesn't apply to leases, so it would be hard to get a capitalized cost as low as that purchase price.
So really all I can negotiate when doing a lease is the Invoice price, correct? ($33,928) on a TL w/navi, and $30,900 with-out Navi.

Residual Rate:
This is the buyout cost at the end of the lease.

Price: 37,687
Residual: 53
Acq Fee:595
doc fee: 159
no money down
payment : 556 per month
I got to the dealership 30 minutes before closing and didn't have time to negotiate, i will go back and purchase the vehicle i am shooting for 33,300 for the purchase price including destination and documentation.
For those of you interested, the 2009 TSX was unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show. It is the European Honda Accord, but it is the TSX in the USA.

interior looks better, but like current gen exterior.
For a TL with Nav, quoted $31,246 + TTL.
This was from Sierra Acura of Alhambra. Have not purchased yet.
I’m getting the following email quotes:
Pohanka: $33,117 + 399 (processing fee) +715 (dest charge) = $34,231
ChevyChase: $34,032 (incl dest charge) +100 (processing fee) = $34,132
Rosenthal: $33,696 + 95 (processing fee) + 715 (dest charge) = $34,506
So, are these reasonable offers? Are those California prices without the destination charge? Because I want a manual transmission, I don’t think I’ll be able to negotiate much – Acura doesn’t seem to make many. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
