HI Cactoctin!! Yes!! All the quotes I got included the destination charge. I'm still searching around and waiting to see if there will any new promotions after Mar 3th. =)
  • sfgman63sfgman63 Member Posts: 3
I got my Type-S from Hopkins Acura (in Redwood City) for $33,200 and this included the $715.00 destination fee. I think a few other dealers out here in the Bay Area would have matched the offer but I was happy with the price and didn't want to hassle with it.

Like you said, since you want the manual transmission maybe that's why the prices are higher.

I was just there today (Sierra Acura) and bought a TL w/Navi and the Mud Guards/Floor Mats/Tire Locks package. I paid $31,600 + TTL. So.. I think $31,246 is a good deal.

I should warn you, however, my experience at Sierra was not good. We had agreed on a final OTD price so I could bring a check and when I got there they said they couldn't honor it. I had to fight them for it. I was hoping moving up to Acura they would be beyond those kind of games. So beware.

Any one who just bought the TLs can please let us know if the 2.9% financing still available or just the lease deals going on right now.
    Thanks.
  • dimsumlodimsumlo Member Posts: 16
hi jaymak, I think the 2.9% financing is still available till Mar 3rd, however, it is for lease only.
  • djcee73djcee73 Member Posts: 2
The 2.9% was a President's Day promotion and expired on 2/23. The 2K dealer cash money dries up on 3/3.

Went to the Cleveland auto show this weekend. They had a black Type S there, which is what I am interested in leasing. I have to tell you that I didn't like the Type S wheels at all on the black vehicle. Maybe some will feel it looks "stealthy", but I wasn't feeling it. On a side note, the 2009 RL was there. Very unimpressive, bland. Looked like the new Accord. Wonder if this is indicative of the new TL's styling?
  • xtabixtabi Member Posts: 11
I did not like the type-s wheels either.
  • smack518smack518 Member Posts: 17
The wheels and the tailpipes are among the reasons I did not go for the Type-S. Also I didn't care for the color choices they offered. Very happy with my polished metal TL-Navi.

Any word on what Acura will do after 3/3? Any thoughts on the likelihood of increasing the dealer cash? Thanks
  • dimsumlodimsumlo Member Posts: 16
I want to know the same thing too, but I guess no body will know untill 5~6 more days away. I'm guessing the dealer cash will stay the same for Acura TL (I hope) and they may come out a new promotion financial rate for lease and cash (that's the thing i'm waiting for). ;)
  • charlesbcharlesb Member Posts: 43
Interesting, because I find the affectation of the giant shaped tailpipes that are popping up on cars these days (like the base TL) to be positively hideous. Especially when taken to the extreme with shaped faux-outlets like on the Lexus LS. One reason I would step up to the TL-S would be the round exhaust outlets and getting a manual transmission would be the clincher, of course. The wheels, in both style and color, I agree, were an unfortunate choice and would be the first thing I would change. The dealer installed 18" ones would solve that problem and, of course, the aftermarket wheel market thrives for that very reason: Ugly OEM wheels.

the manual transmission sucks. i test drove an auto and stick TL-S and I have to say, I did NOT like the stick at ALL. the stick WAS marginally faster if you really drove the stink out of it, but the problem was the torque steer was outrageous.

anyone who says they "don't notice" the torque steer in a TL-S, is shifting at 4000 rpm, NOT going to redline, and NOT shifting fast. They are NOT really pushing the car. IF you push it to redline, and shift fast, basically..I'm not saying you have to abuse the car to notice it..but say you are trying to click off the fastest 1/4 mile time you can - you will have the steering wheel jerk in your hand as you do the 1-2 shift... i hated that.

the auto had some torque steer..but it's not as bad as the stick. still there, but less noticeable.

to me, if I went with a TL-S, I'd go with an auto. the torque steer just makes the whle driving experience so distasteful.... so NOT sporty.

go drive any RWD or AWD car and you will see the difference.

the biggest weakness of the current TL is the FWD setup. when Acura gets their $hit together and puts SH-AWD into a car like the TL, they will have a true winner.

I went to a dealer in san diego and looked at the 08 tl type s. The Sticker was 39,000 the invoice they showed me 35k what can I really get this car for? I'm looking for the 6spd and really dont care on color. thanks

Who has purchased the 6spd and what did you pay?
  • chirocatchirocat Member Posts: 73
I have a CBP TL-S 6MT and I love the thing. Both the way the OEM wheels look with the CBP and the way it drives with a manual. In 95% of my driving you never feel the torque steer, and when you do it is certainly MUCH less annoying than having an automatic transmission. How can you say the torque steer makes it not sporty but it is sporty with an auto? LOL. No matter who you are, reality still rules and you simply can't drive at the level you describe on a daily basis. Not only will no car out there take that kind of abuse on a daily basis, the cops most certainly will have something to say about it. There is simply NO reason to get an auto tans unless you simply can't drive(or commute at 5 mph in rush hour), and if that is the case you should not have a TL-S, you need a Prius or a Yaris.

I only have one car and I am an enthusiast driver, so I have to enjoy the car I commute with. I simply could not live with an auto box for the 95% of the time just for less torque steer in brief moments? Sheesh, get a G35 and take the 4 MPG penalty. Yeah I have cursed myself a few times when I wanted to drift a corner, but that is a rare occasion. You actually said it best yourself, about not going past 4000 rpm. The TL-S has a nice torque curve and I can blast ahead of traffic and keep the RPM's around 4000-4500, all the while getting an average combined mileage of 23. Yeah I love to hear the Vtec chime in at 5k, and I admit that I sometimes take a longer route back from lunch(with longer blocks good for redline in 2nd) and roll the windows down so I can hear that amazing engine run. I t doesn't help much, though as apparently the ANC was specifically tuned to quell exhaust noise, and it works too well IMHO. It would be nice if they had a sport/comfort switch for that LOL>

All in all, the TL-S is the perfect commuter for me, I can live with the FWD limitation as a concession to reality, just like I accept the firmer ride as a concession to the performance I crave. The mileage is also a concession because if I didn't drive as hard as I do, I could live with a Jetta TDI and get over 40 mpg. If you drive a TL-S in "normal" driving the 6MT makes you smile with it's slick shifting and smooth clutch, coupled with nicely spaced ratios and a powerful engine. Yes, I would love to see a new TL-S with SHAWD, but if it doesn't have a manual, then Acura is off my list. LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO DRIVE AN AUTOMATIC!!!! :surprise:

Oh BTW, the torque steer with the HPT package is notably worse than the standard Michelins, which are a better overall choice unless you are autocrossing or testing the car for a magazine article.
  • chirocatchirocat Member Posts: 73
I got around 33.9K last December but I hear people are getting down around $33, 250.
Anything under $34k is a bargain IMHO. Walk in there and tell them you want a car with 6MT but do a search for 6MT cars first. Find a dealer that had the exact color you want, get a quote from them, look at the car then tell them you really want another color (one that is not available nearby). Let them convince you to like the color they have on the lot , that should do it. :P

    Good luck!
  • jmb8606jmb8606 Member Posts: 13
is that otd? they said 38k and I said I'm going home to do some research. lol
  • smack518smack518 Member Posts: 17
I'd say that's not OTD pricing. Most people on here quote prices before TTL, because tax rates et al vary so much around the country. Really have to compare on sale price of the car, OTD is not really comparable.
  • jmb8606jmb8606 Member Posts: 13
I found 33,033 plus tax and lic and 36,461 otd. not bad?
  • chirocatchirocat Member Posts: 73
The price was +TTL. That added a little less than $2500 if I remember right. So I would say OTD for anything around $36K is a great deal.

This thread and forum helped me incredibly to feel confident in pricing for a TL-S I just purchased, so heres my experience. I live in Orange County, CA and having had luck in the past with fleet dealers from AAA and Costco, did made some inquiries to several dealers affiliated with both programs and received pricing for a 2008 TL-S (no summer tires). Everyone was passing the 2K factory to dealer invoice directly along. I intentially did NOT go to my local Acura dealer as I did want to go in to that establishment with my "best deal" which if they could beat or match, would close the deal with a local business, which I prefer when possible.
The Costco car buying program Quotes were all similar (+/- 100 bucks) with the lowest $33,657 incl dest. (Car has MSRP of 38,940)

I was also interested in the 8 yr, 120K Zero deductable extended warranty. The best pricing I could find referenced here or otherwise online with an actual link to the source was from Bernardi Honda (also sells Acura Service) <http://www.hondawarrantyinfo.com/acura/ . Their price online for the 8yr/120/0 deductable warranty was 1415. I did read on some forum in my research that Acura is thinking of no longer allowing internet sales for extended warranties which would make these deals more difficult. I was told-shown papers indicating this was the actual cost of the warranty and have not reason to believe otherwise. To me it was an overall package deal (car + warranty + local dealer sale)

I took this information to my local dealer (Acura of Mission Viejo) and was welcomed by a very courteous salesman (Dan Sype) who after test driving and explaining the car thoroughly, without pressure agreed they could match this (Both the Car pricing and the extended warranty) and when asked, even threw in a $121 trunk mat for no charge. I may have been able to save a few hundred or so somewhere, but this entire process took me about 5 short phone calls, 1 drive to a dealer who would not give me the costco pricing over the phone, and about 3 hours total at the local dealer where I purchased. I just didnt have the time to do more. To me very painless and I am extremely happy. I am trying to keep from driving the car too hard until the manuals suggested 600 miles which is very difficult. I am also very glad I purchased the extra warranty as this car simply has too many gadgets. Even with a Honda (which is all I own), things could certainly going to go wrong with the electronics and I hear things like Nav touch screens are very expensive. I have a very cool new car, great buying experience, and piece of mind that I can drive it without the worry if/when something does go wrong. The dealers courtesy also sold them my service business for this car. (Im one of those who still religiously just takes their car to the dealer). Hope this helps you get even better deals!

was 33,657 your otd. Just curious I working with Mission right now on a deal.

No, that was just the base sales price which included the $715 destination fee.

Hi all, I'm from Arkansas. I found this forum too late after I purchased my new 2008 TL-S two weeks ago. The price was $35,155 + destination charge but excluding tax and license. Can anyone tell me if that is much away from the true price for it? And also can you tell me how to negotiate with dealers when I buy another vehicle next time? Things that I'm interested in to learn such as dealer % holdback, dealer cash,..etc, so It will be helpful for my future car buying. Thank you all so much.
  • jmb8606jmb8606 Member Posts: 13
I have never bought from a dealer before. The TL we be my first dealer bought car. I think the beat was is to email all the dealer for the car you want and ask for a quote. All the quotes I received were below the sticker and 2 were under invoice.
  • slowcarslowcar Member Posts: 66
Just picked up a TL w/ Nav for $31K even + TTL in Texas. What do y'all think?
  • my65rivimy65rivi Member Posts: 1
Today, I'm the happy owner of an '08 TL with navigation. I paid $32,700+title (with the truck tray, wheel locks, and all-season door mats that they threw in the deal).

I haven't seen any other posts from the Portland Oregon area, so I'm curious what other people are getting deals for. I didn't get very good quotes over the phone, so I had to go into the dealership and negotiate. I had a good experience working with Acura of Portland.

I don't consider myself a great negotiator, but having a some information helps a lot. Once I said I knew the invoice price was effectively $32k after the dealer incentative, we came to an agreement pretty quickly. I don't mind leaving $700 on the table, I think that leaves a good profit for the dealership and salesman. People have to make a living. Of coarse, they claimed to me that they are losing money on the deal, but you and I know better. This forum gave me some great information to negotiate with and make an informed choice. Before researching on Edmunds, I though I was looking at around $34k for this car, so I'm glad I did; this is a great web site .

I just wanted to pass along my experience. Other people in Oregon should post too!

whatever. I've driven vettes, 911s, boxsters, and plenty other RWD sports cars. also plenty of AWD cars. FWD is fine for commuting, but it sure as hell is not sporty.

if you think the TL-S is a sports car, then you haven't driven a real sports car.

the TL-S is nice, i considered buying one, and still would if the price was right. but it sure as hell is NOT sporty and the stick sucks. period.

go drive an S2000 or an RX8 and you'll see what a RWD stick shift is supposed to be like. the TL-S torque steers if you know how to drive right and you push it.

yes, for drdiving to and from work, and the grocery store, it is fine and you won't notice it. which for most people is 95% of their driving. so in that regard you are correct.

but if you want something that can go to work and the store AND the track, then don't get the TL-S

    Hi all

I'm currently in the market to get a 08 TL and I'm wondering what's the incentive (if any) for the March 08. As far as I know, there was a dealer cash back 2000 in February and 2.99% APY for 36 - 60 months (I got different answer from different dealer and I'm kinda of confuse at the moment) It will be great if anyone can give me some hint about that...

I also have another question regarding the dealer cash and speical APY, when I spoke with a dealer at NJ late last month, he mentioned that there is a dealer cash for 2000 AND 2.99 APY for the TL, however, when I talk to another dealer in NY Metro area, he said I can ONLY take the dealer cash OR the 2.99APY for 36 months (instead of 60 months) not both... so I'm wondering which is true....

    Thanks for your help everyone!

    Alex
  • smack518smack518 Member Posts: 17
At the end of December I got BOTH the $2000 dealer cash and the 2.9% for 36 months. Dunno if that means anything for you now, but they were offering both at the time. I do know however that the dealer cash was NOT available if you were leasing.
  • chirocatchirocat Member Posts: 73
Don't take it personally, really we probably just have different criterion. And to answer; I have driven some very fine RWD's on an autocross course, and I considered them in my hunt. The TL-S is sporty, but it is not a sports car, and neither is any sedan other than say the RX-8(cause it's not really a sedan, or barely qualifies).

When you say the stick sucks, I assume you are referring to the torque steer, as the transmission is one of the best in the segment.

I never said the TL-S doesn't torque steer. I can drive it right and I do encounter torque steer daily, it is still better than embarrassment of being seen with an auto trans.

Driving to and from work is what 99% of us do with our cars, and 95% of those never even push it(so they can buy Camrys) ;)

You are COMPLETELY RIGHT with the last sentence, if you want to get a daily driver that you can autocross or take to the track, the TL-S ain't it. That said, I have thought about taking mine to nearby track just for fun and to see what it will legally do. I know it won't match the CTS-V and M3(E46) that I have driven on the track, but I knew that when I bought it.

Since I never really do make it to the track the way my life is right now, it made sense to compromise. I really did seriously consider a 07 Legacy B spec and a CTS-V, both of which have tons of tuner mods avail and would be tire/gas eating street monsters. I figured that since I want to build a new house this year, that it would be hard to justify the extra insurance, fuel and not to mention tires to the little lady, so I chose the compromise. You can still have fun with FWD tho, I have a circular park/traffic circle/skidpad in fromt of my office. Today I was having fun flooring it until I understeered, then lifting the throttle so it oversteered. Ok, I know it's not as fun as drifting. Oh well, maybe when I build the house I will get a "playtoy" to take to the track. That's one reason to build a house now, I have no place to park a toy or it's parts anyway. I hope that clears the air. :shades:

I'm in the market for a TL but I was told that the back seats does not fold down and that only the center can fold. Can someone from this forum who owns the 08 confirm? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thx.
  • chirocatchirocat Member Posts: 73
The seat does not fold, all you get is a lockable passthrough over the armrest.
  • alaw0430alaw0430 Member Posts: 2
Thanks smack518, really appreciate your response, I guess what I was confused is that one dealer told me specifically that I can only take the low APY or the 2000 cash if I paid cash..,. that sounds kinda of rare because the new TL is about to come out soon so I will assume they want to clean up their stock

    Thanks again

i'm looking for a 08 TL with Nav as well. I live in Texas. Can you tell me what dealership you went to? how much did you knock off the MSRP?
  • slowcarslowcar Member Posts: 66
I bought it in Houston...Charles Thomas and Sterling McCall both will sell you TL w/ Nav for $31K even, including destination. The MSRP is $36.9K I believe but why would you care about the MSRP?????

Just wondering if anybody knows what the new current offers are for the TL. Did they keep the $2k cash back? Lower finance rates?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks for your help. I am in Houston as well. I will stop by Sterling McCall. I hope I can get a TL w/Nav for 31k as you mentioned. Did you deal with any specific sales person or do you think I'm good going to anyone there? Any reccomendations?

I should know the answer to your question by Friday, if nobody here gets it before then. I would have to look at a magazine my library carries [new issue out by Friday] which lists car incentives/rebates in the back by manufacturer/make. Salesmen won't tell you, anything. Just mention the rebate that comes out soon to the salesmen after he quotes you, then he will run back to his "manager" and come back saying, yes i found out there is a rebate, I didn't know about it.

I have been lurking on the G35 forum for the past few weeks but at the last minute have decided against the G and am going to go with the Type S. The G's poor gas mileage, offset tires and assorted packages along with lines that are not as sleek as the TL have me changing vehicles.

I have not seen what actual invoice price is for the Type S automatic on Edmunds. What is the invoice price for this car and then the actual destination charge? I have seen people getting some good deals since they are taking 2,000 off the invoice and would be interested in what anyone is paying for a Type S in Arizona.

    Thanks
  • punkyjunior895punkyjunior895 Member Posts: 33
good choice, as a former G35 owner, i can tell you the car was loaded with electrical problems
  • acuriteacurite Member Posts: 2
Hello from the DC Metro area.
There are some financing incentives: 0.9% for 24-48 months and 2.9% for 49-60 months. Would it nice to know if there are any other cash or manufacturer to dealer incentives, but no details as of yet.
I was quoted for a base trim with nav for just under 31K, but the salesman wanted to charge almost 1300 in strange fees and dealer charges, so I dropped the deal... I'm still driving my beater :(

sorry if my post came off nasty. didn't mean it that way.. maybe i was in a rotten mood when i posted.. sorry.

anyway, you are COMPLETELY RIGHT when you point out that the TL-S is a VERY good "compromise" car that does everything well. the only real complaint I had was the torque steer. for some reason, i really did not like the stick. I drove two of them, on different days at different dealers. I have owned several sticks, and swear by them - but for some reason, I did not like the TL-S stick.

maybe it was the torque steer. I test drove an S2k and RX8 recently, and LOVED them.

i can only describe the feeling I had in the stick versions of the TL as "loose" I had this weird "disconnected" sensation in the stick TL-S, and the auto version felt much tighter. in the way it steered, drove, etc. I also felt the stick was faster. noticeably.

despite being "into" manual tranny cars, I personally liked the auto better. if I was getting an RX8, I'd NEVER get an auto...the stick was too much fun. I guess to me, the torque steer kinda killed the fun of the stick, b/c I'm the guyu who redlines it every other shift, and the torque steer was pretty noticeable.

that said, the TL-S is about as good as it gets for a really nice sporty sedan loaded with gizmos int he mid 30s price range.

having previously owned an S60R..the one car I think right now would ge a really good bang for the buck would bea low mileage, used V70R, certified. i've seen them under 30k with 15k, with a 100k certified warranty. 300hp, AWD, and you can get them in a manual. add an IPD ECU uprgrade and you will have a solid 330hp, with gobs of torque. and you could track it. get the S60R if you want a sedan.

just an alternative. if u could get a used car...and went w/ euro
  • soylentgreensoylentgreen Member Posts: 62
You're right about those offset tires on the G. That's what it finally came to when I was decidingng between the TLS and G35S.

I looked at Tirerack, Discount Tire, and NTB for replacement tires. Last time I checked, the only replacement that have matching front and rear sizes is the Goodyear F1 A/S...and these cost a fortune for the G35's tire sizes.

This is from an email I just received from a local dealer:

To all our 2008 TL & TSX models, there are special APRs available for qualified buyers: .9% APR for 24-48 months and 2.9% APR for 37-60 months. Or you can take advantage of the $2,000 off the special price. Does not apply to lease options. Good through month of March.

I was wondering if anyone has had experiance with purchasing a TL in the Michigan area? There are (3) Acura dealers in my area and they all seem unwilling to budge on their price. I tried to negotiate a deal on a new 07 TL - w/AT and NAV. in the fall. The dealer was only willing to go down $1,500.00. I laughed at him and said that at that price I was better off purchasing a new 08. I told him to go talk to his Manager and call me when he had a better deal, needless to say I never got that call. I even tried to get a quote online and all I received was an email asking me to come in and take the car for a test drive and talk to them about it. I am looking to purchase in the next couple of months when the weather breaks. Any suggestions??????
  • astro13astro13 Member Posts: 26
Does anyone know what the chances are that I will be able to talk the dealer into giving me the rebate after March? I won't be ready to pull the trigger for a couple more months, but I hate to leave $2,000 on the table.
