Ok - we love the TL - loved the test drive a couple of weeks ago and we think the net pricing of $31500 or so w/nav that everyone seems to be paying is reasonable for this auto. Our one concern is resale in 2013. We keep our cars 5 years, average 12k per year and we always purchase a 7 year 100K or 84K warranty so that when we go to resell we can advertise with warranty (makes the car stand out). We have a 2003 Camry XLE w/nav and all the goodies that we will sell on ebay or local paper or craigslist..... Our only hesitation is not being able to see any pcitures of the 2009 TL which may be radically different (as the Accord is from 08 to 07). We do believe that buying the last year of major model change will hurt on resale - especially if the new model is met with positive enthusiasm (re the Accord). We have searched EVERYWHERE and can not find any photos yet of the 2009. Just covered possible pics - but nothing definitive. Hard to believe that it is April 1st and no pics of a model that should ship this summer. The incentives as they are end on April 30th (dealer cash). When will manufacture of the 2008 stop? When will the availability of 2008 become more difficult? Can't pull the trigger without being able to compare 08 and 09 models (costs, features, etc.) Am I the only one?

No, you are definitely not the only one. I have wanted this generation TL since it first hit the streets but wasn't ready to buy. I fought this hard and finally gave in and picked up my brand new TL yesterday. In my situation I couldn't wait for the 2009 to come out since I needed a car bad. I didn't want to buy and have it get changed up so soon, but I bit the bullet and got it. I personally love everything about this ride and am sure a new model won't bother me since I am getting to enjoy my new TL NOW.

I have loved the Acura's since the Legend and would probably still drive one of those if I found a clean one, and I think I will feel the same about the TL.

If you plan to sell the car after 4 or 5 years, and your current car is a 2003 I would personally wait it out just to see what comes. I plan to keep this car for at least 10 years unless I make enough cash to be able to upgrade and not care.

A negative on the new body when it finally comes out is that the first year of production is never rock solid. The current TL is far overdue and they have perfected it quite nicely after producing it for 5 years. An example of first year negatives is the newly redesigned Honda Accord. If you go over to the accord thread you will see that many say the 4 cylinder is underpowered, and people HATE the v6 efficiency where it drops down cylinders and in certain situations lose the power when you want it most. I shopped the Accord hard and decided I was just not into the overall design, and that the first year of production seemed to already be off to a wacky start.

    Just my 2 cents.

Have a price of $28,500 plus Tax, title, Lic, Fees. from a very good dealer.
Is this the best I can do?

That's the best I have seen. Where do you live? I am in MA and I hope you are in my area. Please share

New April Cash Back is up $500 to a total of $2500. Unfortunately, we can not combine it with 0.9% for 48 months or 2.9% for 60 months.

Last Saturday, I tried to make a deal on loaded G35-Sport Premium Nav MSRP is $39,800 invoice $36,000 and my offer is $34,000 with 2.9% for 60 month. The dealer had $500 cash back.

Back to the TL-S, I want one but I interested to offer $32,500 to 33,00 Max and get a special financing rate of 0.9% for 48 months. It seems very close with current cash back, but not combo with special financing rate which is really sad.

What do you think, wait a bit or shop around?

I don't think you can get this car for $33000. But with the extra $500 incentive now, you may get close to that.

Invoice is $35,117 before destination fee. So figuring 35,850 minus 2500, leaves you around $33,350. You'll scrap for every dollar below invoice, and getting $350 off of that is going to be difficult.
  • rekcalsarekcalsa Member Posts: 10
I was able to get one last month for $33,300 (See Post #8978). This was with only the $2000 incentive and not extras.

I don't think you'll be able to get a special financing rate along with the incentive. It's more than likely one or the other so you'd have to figure out which one would be better for you. I think the $2500 incentive is pretty good and this could be the best it's gonna get.
  • soonercatsoonercat Member Posts: 48
Been lurking a while. Since 2.5 k incentive hit. I sent local dealer an offer via their web site letting them know money in hand buying today. Offer: Carbon Bronze pearl/Taupe total $31,100 OTD. (tax 30 days later in Oklahoma). They counted at $31,600 ("we are loosing money on $31,100--how about $31,300 TODAY"). I told them I had to sleep on this. What concerns me is that a 07 TL Navi has a trade in of $28,000 or so. Dealers no go into holdback easily. ($31,500 is that threshold). I cannot combine low APR here. .9 is good but $2500 better in my case. Values are really going down and I would not be surprised to see 3-3.5k cash as this winds down. I would tell you all this, the moment they stop producing the 08 is the time to strike (June 08)--not when inventory is winding down in Aug-Sep">. I see huge inventory at all acura dealers. Is a $30,000 possible before this thing winds down? This is a lot of car for the money.<img src="

I bought my car last Saturday but only got the $2000 instead of the $2500. I figured it was going to go down, and agree that the deals will only keep getting sweeter and sweeter as the time passes. I personally was at a point where I HAD to purchase so I was happy enough holding out to get the $2K and got my TL for close to the same price to the 2007's I was considering. I really hustled the deal so I basically would have saved an extra $300, but that isn't worrying me.

I think they will have to stop dropping at some point, but another $500 to $1000 doesn't seem unrealistic. With the Honda's dropping a huge amount over the last few weeks, seems like Acrua is following right behind but the prices are still saying relevant to each other.

If anyone is on the fence I would say, if you can wait, why not because the dealers will ONLY get sweeter. I agree with soonercat that you shouldn't wait all the way till september when you won't get your choice pick of options. On the flip side, the prices will always go lower, and there will always be a better deal tomorrow so if you need a car, just buy and then stop looking at the prices :) I am happy to have paid a little more and enjoy the car for the extra months that I would have been waiting.

For anyone trying to decide if this is the right car for them, oh boy, this IS the car for you!!! I took mine on the highway today for the first time (picked up on Monday) and it is am amazing ride. So smooth, sleek, and high end. I feel like a million bucks when I am in this car. The bluetooth is sweet too! I went with the Navi so that is fun, and the reverse camera rocks. This car is definitely a lot of car for the price.

Did anyone notice that the 2008TL printed brochure at the dealer says "Heated outside mirrors with reverse gear tilt-down and integrated directional signals"???

Mine don't tilt down, was this a misprint???
  • jpgalerjpgaler Member Posts: 1
It appears as if the prices will keep dropping. If you can wait, they certainly aren't going up. I have been speaking with dealers regularly since late February. First it was just $2000 back, then it was the 2k and the financing (which was set to expire at the end of March), now it is 2.5k and the financing. Just how low will it go? I got offered an 08 NAVI for 33000 with financing or 31,500 if I bought by the end of last month. They are obviously desperate to move these cars, especially with the 09s coming out in the fall. My hope is to hang on til Memorial Day weekend and get some end of the month pricing along with whatever deal Acura is offering then. I am fine with paying $33k, but my hope is that the .9 goes for the 60 month loan as well. Does anyone have any insight as to what the incentives could be or when they are extended? I am assuming the last week of each month they should know what kind of deals are being offered for the next month.
  • smack518smack518 Member Posts: 17
Only one of the two rearview mirrors will tilt down when you put the car in reverse. You choose which one by setting the rear mirror adjuster thing to that mirror. If you have it set in the middle (ie not set to a particular mirror) neither mirror will tilt.

I hope this made some sense...
  • decisions2decisions2 Member Posts: 21
Not sure if I followed you on this one :)

So are you taking about the tiny switch that you move to the left, center, or right hand side when you are adjusting the rear view mirror positioning? Or is this setting within the computer settings? Please do share. I would have easily gone forever thinking I got stumped on a feature that I hoped to have, but never got.

    Anxiously awaiting more info.

Smack is correct, at least that is how my '05 works. Little mirror adjustment swithc to left of wheel. Put in right or left position (as if you are going to adjust that mirror) and leave it there. That mirror will tilt down when in reverse.

When I switch cars with the Evil Wife, she leaves it in the middle. So when I again drive the TL, I initially think it's broken! She still hasn't figured out the memory seats...

On Saturday 4/5/08 just purchased 2008 Base Model TL for $28700 car price. out the door for $31327. I received 4.9% financing. I live in NJ the fees may be a little different for CT. www.parkaveacura.com
  • mchalmersmchalmers Member Posts: 30
That seems like a very good price. Did that include destination? Was the 4.9 through Acura?

    Thank you!
  • bkostkabkostka Member Posts: 6
I got an offer today for a Base TL.

Option 1 was to go for $32,200 with 2.9% APR for 60 mos. Plus doc fee of $275.50, tax of $2,517 (at 7.75%). Out the door it's $34,992.

Option 2 was for $30,200 (by giving me $2,000 cash back), but then to finance it at about 5.5% APR for 60 mos. Plus doc fee of $275.50, tax of $2,362 (at 7.75%). Out the door it's $32, 837.

I plan to put $7,000 down. My monthly payments would be $502 for Option 1 and $493 for Option 2.

The dealer was pushing me to take the $2,000 cash back and said it was a better deal.

However, when I got home and crunched the numbers, Option 1 would be better in the long run as I'll pay $32, 217 over the life of the loan versus $33,385 -- for a difference of $1,168.

So why would the dealer tell me to take Option 2, if Option 1 is actually better for me? Any thoughts?

Also, how do these deals sound? Could I push him for $2,500 cash back.
  • jborrellijborrelli Member Posts: 15
Yes that includes destination. The sales manager did a great job educating me that some dealers leave out the destination charge in the car price. Yes the financing is through the dealership. I am not sure if it is through American Honda Finance or another company. I pick up the car sometime this week. I'll ask and let you know. It is 4.9% up to 60 mo. After calling 4 other local dealerships and having them say that they couldn't touch the price, I just went in and signed the papers. I noticed a post for $28500. I was trying to go that low but they weren't having it.

smack, i live in the philly area and have been pricing the TL-S. Was yours an S type? and, if you don't mind, which dealership gave you the best deal?
  • slowcarslowcar Member Posts: 66
First off, your price is about $1000 too much and doc fee $275 is way too much. That being said, Option 1 $502 for 60 months and Option 2 $493 for 60 months then how you came up with $32,217 for Option 1 and $33,385 for Option 2 over the life of loan ????? You pay more for each month (Option 1) for the same many months (60) but you end up less at the end??? It doesn't make sense.

Anyway, I believe Option 2 is always better for you because (1) the interest rate difference (%5.5 vs. %2.9) isn't enough to overcome the $2000 cash difference, not to mention tax on this $2000 too and (2) you put down $7000 down payment; thus lessen the effect of 2.9% rate advantage. Good luck.

Great. I appreciate the feedback. Sounds like a great deal.

  • smack518smack518 Member Posts: 17
No, mine was a 2008 TL/Navi not type S. The deals were good when I bought, but they've gotten better since year end.

That said, I got internet pricing, and everyone (well almost everyone) would match the best offer I got. I actually walked away from a deal at one dealership because, while I liked the salesman, I found management very unprofessional. Email me at smack518 at yahoo dot com if you want to know where.

I ended up making my deal at Montgomeryville Acura, and had a GREAT experience, very easy, no BS, was in and out in just a couple hours and no hard sell. Ask for Ed Galgon and tell him Siamac Afshar sent you. (I hope this is allowed)
  • bkostkabkostka Member Posts: 6
Thanks for your input slowcar. You're right. I had an error in my spreadsheet.

The total cost of the car (including docs, taxes and interest) will be $37,105 for Option 1 and $36,611 for Option 2. Thus, Option 2 is better by $493 over the entire 60 month period.

Quoted $29,000 plus special financing-.9%/48 mo or 2.9%/60 mo. Can I do any better?
  • rgray3rgray3 Member Posts: 23
$29,000 is what I am hearing for the Base TL in NC as well. Includes Trunk liner, mud flaps, and wheel locks.
  • wjf12wjf12 Member Posts: 6
Do you mind saying where in NC this is?

    I'm near Charlotte.

Also, what financing rate can they offer with a $29k price?

    Thanks in advance.
  • rgray3rgray3 Member Posts: 23
    Greensboro, NC.

At that price you do not get the reduced Acura Financing. No big deal to me since if I decide to buy I will go through my Credit Union.
  • tjta1tjta1 Member Posts: 5
Insist on the .9%/48 mo or 2.9%/60 mo Acura financing. I was offered that financing with the $29k in the Cincinnati area.
  • astro13astro13 Member Posts: 26
Has anyone seen pricing like this in the Detroit area? Every deal I have seen has been quite a ways from me. I don't mind driving 2-3 hours if the deal is right because the dealers up in my area carry very little inventory so they are less likely to cut you a good deal. Also, I noticed that Acura is offering $2,500 cash back to the dealers and 4.9% financing. Any chance that the deals will get any better later on in the summer? I would hope that with the redesigned 09 due out in the fall they would be willing to give you a better deal come summer.

WHAT ABOUT THE $2500 DISC? YOU PAID 1,632 BELOW INVOICE BUT I FEEL YOU COULD HAVE KNOCKED OFF ANOTHER $2500
  • gleen6191gleen6191 Member Posts: 80
this is too much $. you can do batter. there is a $2500 incentive now.
  • bkostkabkostka Member Posts: 6
Here's how my deal shook out.

    $29,100 - car
    $250 - docs
$2,274.63 - tax (at 7.75% in Cleve, OH)
    $25.50 - title and tags
    $31,650.13 - out the door

They also threw in rubber floor mats.

I have good credit and they got me 4.99% financing.

The dealer indicated that Acura is pushing them to unload (too early in his opinion) because the 2009s are coming.

    How's this deal sound?

    08 TL/navi

Price paid: 33,500 <= dealer would rather gimme more for my trade in than change price, so don't focus on that number
trade-in: -1,500 <= all other dealers would not gimme more than $500-600 for it, edmunds would appraise at no more than $800

    total: 32,000

With a fair value for my trade in of ~750, the deal is equivalent to:

    Price paid: 32,750
    Trade in: -750

    This is probably more realistic

special 0.9% financing over 48 months

    doc fees: $55

Hope this helps, thank you everybody for sharing your experiences, that helped!

$2,500.00 more off huh. That brings the price down to $26,500.
Good luck at getting a dealer to agree to that.............
  • ruwildruwild Member Posts: 2
That deals sounds fair and I'm certainly no expert but I think you can do better. From what I've been able to take from other posts, you might be able to knock off another $500. There were previous posts of a Base TL for around $28,800 and that was when the marketing support was $2,000. Now that it's $2,500, I would think there would be a little more wiggle room but of course everything hinges on the willingness of the dealer. Would you mind telling me where you got that deal. I'm from Cleveland also and have been trying to keep track of pricing.

Can you tell me when you purchased your TL? I was just in yesterday and got a price of $32658 for the same car MINUS the mats and stuff....I need some ammo to go back.

    Thanks!

    2008 Acura TSX $24,900
    2008 Acura TSX Navi $26,900
    2008 Acura TL $28,900

Above is a price quote in writing I received from a dealer. Problem is, this is a dealer in Texas and I live in Louisiana. Anyone bought a car outside of Louisiana while living in this state? How big of a hassle would it be?

I have been debating on the Tl & G35 for quite some time now & I just want to thank all of you for your very informative posts. After test driving both extensively, I'm looking at getting a 2008 TL w/ Navi. Tough decision, but I thought the TL just had a smoother, quieter ride & the interior, in my opinion, was a little more refined. This morning I was just quoted $30,399 + tax, license, title, doc fee & destination. Does this sound like a decent deal? Thanks for the help.
  • decisions2decisions2 Member Posts: 21
Typically I always look at the quoted price WITH the destination since that is a given, and there is no backing out of that usually on the price.

The Edmunds Invoice+Destination is $33,998 for the Base TL with Navi. Minus the $2500 cash incentive and the price is $31498. If we added destination to your quote of $30,399+$715=$31,114. So Yes, it seems like a decent deal to me. If they were giving it to you for $30,399 including destination that would be an excellent deal :)

EDIT: Go for the TL! I picked mine up last Monday and it is an amazing ride. I was also shopping the G35 and went with the TL.

The dealer was in Irving (Dallas). They were the cheapest. In fact, I may drive from New Orleans to purchase my car there.

    Paco,

What price are you willing to pay?
Do you have a trade in car?

You dont want to use the 0.9% rate, right?

I am in Houston too , just bought a new TL (navi), I think during discussions I was offered 29K for a base. I could refer you to the sales guy if you re interested in that price
  • thepostmanthepostman Member Posts: 49
I also reside in Houston and I am also looking for an TL. What is the name of the dealership that you used?
  • bkostkabkostka Member Posts: 6
I bought from Park Acura in Akron. Ask for Thomas. He dealt pretty fairly with me. In fact, I sold my car quicker than expected and he drove to my house with a TL to drive until they could locate the color I wanted! I also shopped at the dealer on Brookpark Road (but didn't like the salesman, Paul, he seemed phoney to me) and also at the Acura dealer in Bedford.
  • astro13astro13 Member Posts: 26
Was that with the $2,000.00 or $2,500.00 that Acura is offering the dealers? Do you know what type of inventory they have left? I live in Detroit, but may be willing to drive that far if the deal is right.
  • mommymeredith3mommymeredith3 Member Posts: 1
Am I about to be taken advantage of? I'm in Balto-Washington DC area.

Price proposed is $36,800 OTR, including taxes & title. Dealer (Frankel Acura) is starting with $1,500 under invoice (so he says) at $34,420, then add $1,721 (5% sales tax) + $659 for title / tags, which equals $36,800.

Do you think they'd give me color matched splash guards, all season floor mats, and trunk mat if I asked?

I'm getting my own financing, no trade-in.

    Thanks!
  • smack518smack518 Member Posts: 17
A TL-S buyer can correct me, but I think that's too much.

There's currently $2500 dealer cash so you should be at least $2,500 below invoice. (Don't know what invoice on a TL-S is) And $659 for title and tags seems like a lot (don't know what the true cost in your area is). In PA I paid under $150 for title/tags/reg.

My gut is that this is NOT a good deal.
