Just got a TL Anthracite/Ebony w/ Nav + wheel lock from Frankel Acura (MD) for $33400. Decided to lease. Monthly payments come to $470 for 42 months 12,000 miles. Good or bad?
  • pkl123pkl123 Member Posts: 43
Yes I agree, Good Price. You could perhaps squeeze another $250-350 out of the deal @ $30,750, which is what a gentlemen got last week on a in stock TL at the end of the month. At the very least make sure he throws in locks, mats , and splash guards.

    Good Luck

I bought a 2005 TL auto with navi from Jones Acura in Lancaster PA for $32,873. They were very easy to deal with.
  • notesnotes Member Posts: 10
I am thinking about buying an extended warranty for this 05 TL w/ navigator. Do you know what is the price you can get it? Thanks.
  • davegod75davegod75 Member Posts: 48
garyg...what was your price and who did you deal with? (email addy?) thanks
  • tlresearchertlresearcher Member Posts: 16
Doctored5: That is one of the BEST deals I have ever heard. I called Jones Acura for a non-navi quote. Let's see what they have in store for me. Did you do anything special like shopping on the last day of the month or were you very flexible on the color? What drove the price 600 dollars below typical sale price of about 33,400? Any tips?

I'd like to know what dealer is making you this offer.

Regarding the price, the base car, without the added options that you don't care about, has an invoice of approximately $32,140. I bougth a brand new 2004 6-speed Navi, with the HPT package for $1,000 over invoice in May, for a total price of $33,330.

The price you are being quoted is about $1,000 over invoice, not including the addtional options. Frankly, I don't think that's a fair deal for a demo, let alone a good one. As a matter of fact, I think you can get a brand new 2005 TL w/Nav for around $33,400. There is one report here for $32,900 +/-. This dealer may be "straight up" but they are trying to take you to the cleaners on the price.

Again, I look at demos from a fairly critical perspective. Why buy a car someone else (or, rather , about 100 someone else's) have racked up 4,000+ miles of test driving on? The answer would only be to save substantial money. Starting with the assumption you can by a brand new 2005 for $33,400, I wouldn't pay more than $32,000 for a brand new 2004, or about $30,000 or less for a demo with 4,000+ miles on it. That's about a 10-11% savings over a brand new, one model year newer vehicle. Any less of a savings isn't "substantial" in my book. Any coincidence that I have only bought new cars and never a demo??
  • tlresearchertlresearcher Member Posts: 16
Regarding the demo car deal, I agree with Habitat1. Unless you are getting about 10% off to offset the 4000 miles of test driving, you should not go for it. 31,300 (non-navi) and 33,300 (navi) seem to be very common and you will get a fresh 2005 for that price. The dealer might even throw a pro. package with it that has splash guards, wheel locks and trunk tray.

    crazy8s,

Sounds like a great deal. I'd like to know if that price does (or NOT) include all fees like taxes,TTL, tags, etc.? Also, did you put any $$ down?

    Thanks,

After few days of e-mailing & calling, a realistic quote I have got for the MD area is around 31,373 including the pro package for non-navi TL. Any exceptional stories for the MD area that you guys would like to share?

On the other message board regarding Problems & Solutions, I saw 100's of messages regarding vibration & flat spotting on Bridgestone tires.

I am getting ready to buy a non-navi 2005 TL. I saw an '05 TL in the dealership today with Bridgestone tires. Do you think it is worth having them switched right now and adding this as part of the total negotiated price? I thought all '05 cars had Michelins but it may possibly be true with only navi models. Any comments or suggestions?

Any new buyers of '05 non-navi: Can you please check your tires?
  • dave124dave124 Member Posts: 12
I'm trying to find a dealership that will sell me a '05 TL AT w/Navi, out the door for $34,000.00. I have no takers at this point. Anyone have any suggestions. Several of you are picking them up for less... Why can't I? I'm looking for a cash deal and no extras. No extended warranty...
  • tlresearchertlresearcher Member Posts: 16
Dave: The issue is with your location. Quotes in PA or MD range from 33,200 to 33,373. Of course, if you are talking about OTD, you have to add about $1600 (5% in MD) + 200 for tags/title. Total on the road price will be about 35,000.

I have a 2003 H2 Hummer with 24k miles pewter lux series, air ride, 3rd row seat and sunroof the Acura place wants to give me $36,500 for trade and their car for $33,373 05 Tl with navi, black with parchment is this a good deal. Thanks in advance Kyle

    tlresearcher,

Might want to check with Ticher Acura in Laurel and Frankel Acura in Timonium (MD).
  • crazy8scrazy8s Member Posts: 5
    cls03,

cost came to about $35300 OTD. Put down $3500 to cover tax/title/tag/etc so balance was $31,800
  • cls03cls03 Member Posts: 10
    Thanks, crazy8s.

I rather suspected you had to put down some $$ to get such a low lease. I'm not sure whether my deal was fair or whether I got taken: $590/mo for 36 mos, including all taxes, fees, etc., and nothing down, for 05 TL - AT/NAVI/splash guards/wheel locks. The only $$ out of my pocket for the deal was the first month's payment.

Is this a great country, or what?!

Oh well, the car's just simply fabulous, so no use cryin' over what's done (if my deal was bad, afterall).

What was the name of the dealership and who did you deal with. Do you have a number?
  • tlresearchertlresearcher Member Posts: 16
Mrtgman: Multiple dealers like Rosenthal Acura & Frankel Acura started higher but after giving them e-mails from other dealers, they dropped to 31,373 with pro package. If you go to PA, you could get multiple quotes that are close to 31,200. Ask about the pro package upfront. Be honest and tell the dealer that you have done the homework and here are the e-mailed quotes. They will immediately know if you are lying and asking for a lot lower than the going price. Also if you are going for a non-navi TL, ask for Michelins. They are not standard for non-navi models. Some dealers may offer them (hopefully without any additional charge). Brande new Michelin Pilots are 200 a pop.

I've see a couple of references to a 'pro package'. What is this?
  • sworkssworks Member Posts: 10
pro pack = wheel locks, trunk tray, splash guards
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
$32,721 plus TTL. That's about $750 under MSRP. Edmunds TMV for my zip is MSRP. My "local" dealer is 100 miles away which I don't really like but if I buy new, they will pick up the car and leave a loaner for scheduled maintenance. Is that a reasonable offer? I'm in northern Indiana. Dealer is in Fort Wayne.
  • tlresearchertlresearcher Member Posts: 16
lmacmil: I guess your quote is for a non-navi TL. It does seem rather high but I think the dealer has an advantage because you are not in an area where multiple dealers are competing in the 50 mile radius. By the way, for 2005 TMV numbers have been = MSRP for quite some time and I think it is probably an error. At least in MD / VA one can easily manage to get a non navi for 31,600 and navi for 33,600. You can even squeeze out some more but I think do what is best in your area. Enjoy the new TL.

I am interested in leasing a '05 TL. A dealer I visited today came up with lease terms which included a $595 "bank fee" when leasing through Honda. I've leased for years through GMAC & Ford Credit and have never paid a "bank fee"- should I now? Is this just added dealer profit?

I'm also interested in adding some of the exterior accessories such as the deck lid spoiler, body side moulding, and side underbody spoiler. The Aura website shows the retial cost of these items without installation. Should I expect to pay full price? About how much for installation?

Finally, the salesman told me the TL is low maintenance- needs an oil change only every 7500 miles. Is that true?

It appears Edmunds just shows the MSRP for the TMV value in my area (Sacramento). What's a fair amount to pay over invoice for a basic '05 TL without Nav system?
  • manthonymanthony Member Posts: 19
Take heart you S.F. Bay Area buyers, I believe there's been a bit of a shift in the market and prices are starting to come down to within shouting distance of what the rest of the country is paying for the TL.

When I started my shopping for a new TL with A/T & Nav about 2 months ago, I solicited bids from 11 dealers in the area, from Marin to Seaside. I got 10 quotes back and 7 of them were exactly the same: $34,470, or $1000 below sticker. The other 3 were about $500 higher.

Well, I waited things out for awhile, as inventories started to build a little, and finally picked up my new TL from Los Gatos Acura this past Tuesday for $33,700 + TTL. I had actually gotten a bid of $33,500 from Marin Acura but I elected not to make the 1.5 hour drive to save another $200. I should say that Marin seemed quite anxious to earn my business and was ready to go the extra mile.

One other key point here is that I had ordered the Deep Green Pearl w/ Parchment combination, which was very scarce during the time in which I was shopping. The effect of that situation was that only the two dealers I mentioned had a vehicle on which they could compete for my business. If you are looking for Silver or Anthracite, however, you've got bunches of them on the lots right now and you should be able to get an even better deal with more dealers competing. Acura of Concord also has good stock.

As far as the car itself is concerned, so far so good. It sure is tough driving, however, while you're trying to figure out how to work all the new stuff. Sorry for the long post.
  • crazy8scrazy8s Member Posts: 5
    sacdriver,

You should not have to pay any bank fee at all. Some dealerships charge a 'processing fee' and this is optional too. At max they might charge $100 for doing the paperwork.

The more specific of a car you want (ex. color, accessories, body kits, etc) the less bargaining power you have. So don't show interest in these things to the dealer right away. You could try to get them afterwards. Ofcource buying items from the dealer will be more expensive. They will charge installation and it can add up.

Maintenance is relative because it depends on how hard you drive the car, short distance, long distance, lot of uphill, by the sea, desert. With normal driving conditions the TL only needs an oil change after 7500 miles because it uses synthetic oils.
  • manthonymanthony Member Posts: 19
I have been offered an extra 3 years, up to 100,000 miles, for $1295. I'm thinking about it but not too seriously. As a comparison, the warranty on my wife's Audi A6 just ran out and they offered us the same extension but for $2800. Every authoritative publication you read, however, advises against it. In my case, I don't think I'll want to keep my TL for longer than 4 years so that's also why I'm leaning against it.
  • crazy8scrazy8s Member Posts: 5
    cls03,

I think it's a good deal because you're done after 32 months. Either way if you buy or lease the dealer will still come out on top.

BTW...what resale value did you get if you wanted to purchase after the lease?

Also do you know what price they would charge if you wanted to buy before the lease ends? (Lease balance + resale) or (lease balance + purchase price balance.)

On 12/11/04 I will be picking up a 2005 TL w/ Navi for $33,300 including mud flaps, wheel locks, destination charges, and trunk tray here in the Los Angeles area. Color: Satin Silver with Ebony interior. What do you guys think about this deal? By the way, does anyone know how much license fees are here in Los Angeles? So to sum up: $33,300 for all of the above + tax and license
  • macdaddie0macdaddie0 Member Posts: 3
Just bought a white/quartz today @ 34,200 with wheel locks+mud guards installed, made the deal over the phone and picked it up the day after.

    and I'm in OC, Cal.

Shop around. All depends on the color.
  • macdaddie0macdaddie0 Member Posts: 3
I think license + tax is around 10% of the price your buy the car for in CA.
  • sacdriversacdriver Member Posts: 33
"With normal driving conditions the TL only needs an oil change after 7500 miles because it uses synthetic oils."

Are these synthetic oils readily available at gas stations or Jiffy Lube? I would not be takingthe car back to the dealer for oil changes.
  • habitat1habitat1 Member Posts: 4,282
The TL does NOT come from the factory with synthetic oil.

In addition, should you decide to switch to syntheetic oil, there does not appear tobe an adjustment to the service computer in the car - and it will assume you have dino-oil for purposes of giving "oil life remaining" readings.

I have a 6-speed and have needed new oil after 4,000 and 8,000 miles, andd I'm now reading 50% left after 10,000 miles. So, at least with the 6-speed, the oil change interval with regular oil is about 4,000 miles. I intend to switch to Mobil 1 at my next change.

I am a little surprised that the TL doesn't ship with Mobil 1. My Honda S2000 did, and virtually every other sedan I was considering along with the TL did.

Have a quote today of $32,900 for 05 anthracite/quartz TL with nav quoted by SC dealer. No negotiating yet. What do you think? Thanks.

"So, at least with the 6-speed, the oil change interval with regular oil is about 4,000 miles. I intend to switch to Mobil 1 at my next change."

Is Mobil the only company that makes oil that will last 7500 miles? There are no Mobil stations in my area. In fact, the only station with a garage is a Union 76 station. Does Union 76 make a similar product?
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
Were the $33.7K or $33.5K straight internet quotes from some of these dealers you got?

I guess Nav TL supplies are beefed up more to a point where even Bay Area dealers are dealing. I also noticed that Nav premium over non-Nav is shrinking to about just what msrp would suggest. Better time to get a Nav TL it seems now.
  • jim_arrowsjim_arrows Member Posts: 5
Eddie_mac, TLresearcher, Habitat1, thanks for all of your replies. I came to the same conclusion and passed on the offer, it didn't help that the car had been mistakenly listed as anthracite/camel on the website but was actually green/parchment, which is the same color combo as the current vehicle I've been driving for 11 years (need a change). I've decided to wait for the '06s to see if they add the sh-awd system. Thanks again!

Edit: Habitat1, forgot to mention that it was at Rosenthal (in Gaithersburg, I think?).
  • hagglerhaggler Member Posts: 1
Is your quote for a 2004 or 2005? Where is Rosenthan & Frankel Acura? I live in Erie, PA, and the best the dealer here will do is $32,000 for a 2005 and I'm not thrilled about that. I think they could do better. They're willing to deal on their last few 2004s down to $30,400, but I don't like the colors/interiors they have left. What do you think?
  • manthonymanthony Member Posts: 19
I dealt with the internet managers but I didn't get those prices right out of the box. It took a lot of negotiating. Believe it or not, there are still some dealers out there who are living in the past and are sticking to the high prices. I particularly got that out of the guy at Pleasanton. On the other hand, the internet manager at Concord and the sales manager at Marin just couldn't have been more anxious to do whatever it took to earn my business. The best part was that they were very courteous and professional at the same time.
  • sacdriversacdriver Member Posts: 33
Did you deal with all these dealers solely by e-mail? It seems like most of the websites want you to enter your phone number. I'd prefer they give me their quote in writing- then I have something in hand with which to negotiate.
  • igibanigiban Member Posts: 530
Was your green TL already on the lot during negotiation, and did you get any accessory for that price?

BTW, do you know what kind of deals are they giving to non-Nav now, considering a Nav one can be had for just above $33.5K?
  • danny1878danny1878 Member Posts: 339
The oil change was @6500, @ 13600 and expecting the 3rd one probably @ 19/20k. Not sure why it's different between the 1st and 2nd one. Mine is an auto with 65% city and 35% highway driving pattern.
  • habitat1habitat1 Member Posts: 4,282
You don't need to go to a Mobil gas station to get Mobil 1 oil - it is sold at auto parts stores everywhere. With my previous Honda S2000 and current TL, I can bring in Mobil 1 that I buy and they will do the oil change. Both dealers could also provide the Mobil 1, but they will mark it up to $8-9 per quart (I can buy it for $5 per quart).

Mobil 1 is probably no better than some of the other synthetics, but they have managed to get specified as the oil used from the factory by Mercedes, BMW and a number of high end performance cars. They are also a true synthetic, not a blend like some of the others.

I still find it curious that I can only get 4,000 miles out of a 6-speed oil change and the others here get 6,000-8,000 on an automatic. I shift at a "healthy" 4,000 rpms, but I certainly don't redline it at every opportunity.

Honda Finance charges an Acquisition fee on all of their leases.. It goes directly to the bank (Honda Finance) and is not negotiable.. Your dealer has nothing to do with it.. You can add it to the cap cost, rather than pay it upfront, but you can't get rid of it.

Just purchased and '05 TL 6 speed non-navi for $31,000 plus tax/title. Lindsay Acura of Columbus was great to deal with and I highly suggest anyone in the Columbus, Ohio area to use them if you are in the market for an Acura. Can't wait to pick up my new TL on Wednesday. I still can't believe I am the owner of one these fine machines ! This will replace a 99 Honda Accord EXv6 that was wrecked last week.
