Since they left the factory today, I'd say only people who work there. You certainly haven't. Unless you're a dealer, you shouldn't be so defensive. Even if you are one, you shouldn't.
Regarding Infiniti pricing, what does the board think about Infiniti being able to hold to MSRP on these after the first rush? IMHO they have to heavily discount their cars to move them. So, if the QX56 price is discounted to say an out the door price of 44K, this will significantly impact Denali, Navigator, etc. There is a big gap between an Expy Eddie Bauer/Tahoe LT/Yukon LT all with out the door prices of 34K and Denali, Nav, etc.
On the other hand if Infiniti is able to hold the price at 50K they might be a tough sell, again, after the initial rush. I don't think that the market is going to pay more for a QX56 than a Denali. (I recall when the MB SUV first came out and people were paying above MSRP. Now you can't give used ones away.)

I just got a email from Infiniti saying that pricing is avaiblibe and that you can already test drive one(QX56) at the dealerships??? I checked the Infiniti site, they havent integrated it(QX56 mini-site) yet, so mabey you can buy one before they are "officialy" released!
Sewell and Grubbs both seem pretty sure that it would be there by Monday, and possibly tomorrow. Said to keep in touch. Crest, which is closest to me, said the 10th.
Dear Host, thanks for reminding us of this. However, I would think that merely mentioning another site to validate an argument isn't the same as promoting it and such a citation improves the quality of posts on THIS site. This is a big world; everyone knows that there are numerous auto discussion sites.
Wibble, Since you have actually been in one of the QX's, can you comment on the interior finish out versus other competitors like LX470 or Navigator? Thanks.
It's definitely a better fit and finish than either the Lincoln or the Cadillac. All rattle and squeek free. It had a really nice quality feel about it. Having said that, the LX interior is still the benchmark in my opinion.
Thanks for the response. I agree that the LX has a fantastic interior finish out. However, I am really counting on the extra leg room in the Infiniti to put it over the top. I have been forced to ride in the third row of the LX once or twice and found it very cramped. Plus, the Infiniti fold flat seats are a big plus. The interior looked nice in the brochure, but it's nice to hear the truth from someone who actually experienced it.
I have a feeling the folks in Brooklyn are going to be disappointed. Each dealer is scheduled to get one car this week with the rest of their February allocation following later in the month. Then again, extra early cars could be thrown at the bigger markets.
Happened to be driving by the dealer on an errand and saw one on the lot. It had just come off the truck an hour before had not been cleaned or preped. Drove it none the less. My first impression is that it is MUCH quiter than the Armada. It is also much more plush as one would expect. It is a very nice vehicle with rugged good looks a solid feel and pleanty of Horse power.
Yes, Wibble, we will be puting one on the floor on Friday, the others (8 total) will be in the following week. After that, we will be getting them as part of our regular allocation. Strangely we got the '56 in before we received even one M45 - and people are chomping at the bit for those as well.
Local dealer has 1 Silver '56 since 2/10. Looks great - looking forward to test drive and hoping the resonance nightmares some Armada folks are experiencing are not generic to Nissan's design.
I actually called them up the other day to see if they had a Graphite Silver. I ended up finding mine in South Florida, It was a special order that someone cancled. I should have it Begining of March...Only thing is that I did not want DVD but I dont want to wait 90 Days for a special order.
I sat in a QX today and WOW! I liked it before it was released, and I like it more now! Interior looks very good and door shuts very nicely. More inspiration inside than an Escalade, though not as nice as an LX or Navigator. Good job Infiniti!
wow...IMO...suddenly the lx and gator have real competition....very quiet, quick and feels well made, esp. when you shut the door.....time to make the final decision...i think this will be infiniti #2 in our garage.....
Does anyone know what the dealer does to the suspension when the QX is delivered? I test drove one yesterday and found the ride to be way too harsh. The DVD screen was bouncing around so much at highway speeds that it would have been impossible to watch. The salesman said that the suspension had not been properly adjusted. He said that Nissan sets them up hard for trucking them to the dealers and that the dealers need to make adjustments. Is this true? Or is he BSing me? Besides that I love the truck. Big, powerful and comfortable.
Notwithstanding Houston and the eight coming into Brooklyn, Kelly Inifiniti in Boston now has one demo and won't get the rest until March. None of the perhaps three Inifiniti dealers (Kelly, Chambers, ?)in the Boston Metro area are now advertizing the QX56.
Because I assume that lux SUVs sell better in Boston (especially in winter) than Houston or Brooklyn whose idea was this?
I just saw a very disturbing thing test driving the qx56 in indianapolis tonight. I noticed that the 2nd row button for the heated switch was missing!!! The dealer said the factory must have been in a rush to get the 1st cars out and the button is on order to get placed. I wonder about the build quality of these vehicles if a button (which seems obvious to me) isn't put on by the factory. Heads up to all out there. Otherwise, the interior and ride are very nice.
I presently own a 2002 Sequoia, and had a Yukon previous to that. I test drove a QX56 this week and promptly ordered one. It will be in near the end of March in the color that I wanted with all of the bells and whistles. A great ride with more gadgets than I can play with in one short ride. The laser assisted cruise control, DVD GPS navigation system, and sonar with the backup camera are really neat. Got to have one. Oh yeah, got to have the DVD entertainment for the kid. The only problem that I've seen so far is the third row seats have very little head room. I'm 6'6" and have to bend over to sit there. I would bet you would have to be under 5'10" to fit. But for me the ability to fold flat without removing them overrides that flaw. I saw someone's post about this car requiring 91 octane fuel. Is this correct? I hope not. If so, what happens if you run 87? 10 cents a gallon doesn't sound like much, but I drive 30 to 40K a year and couple that with crappy fuel mileage and it does add up.
Not sure I agree. It will run on 87, and probably won't knock, but your mileage will likely suffer enough to use up your savings, and the performance will suffer as well. Any engineer I've spoken with says you're best off using what the car was tuned for. And then there's my final indictment; no offense intended. But, if you can afford a Q, why can't you afford the prescribed fuel? If you're too cheap to buy the prescribed fuel, get the Armada.
The ECU will probably retard the ignition timing to compensate, and you'll be making Armada levels of power (305 IIRC). But yeah, why? It'll amount to a savings of less than 1% of your TCO probably.
I'm not sure what you guys in Boston are doing, but we're taking orders up the wazoo here in Brooklyn. The goofy thing is, People are ORDERING, instead of selecting from our inventory. Strange thing, when they already know that we will be getting limited numbers. Believe it or not, of the eight we're getting in our first allocation, only half of them are spoken for.
He never said that power was his bigest consideration. He was more impressed with the quality and the gadgets, if I read it correctly. In that case, the lower horsepower on the lower octane wont bother him at all.
Previously I have test driven both the Lincoln Nav and the Cadillac Esc. My wife and I had the opportunity to check out the QX56 on Saturday in the Seattle area. I am interested in the QX56 opinions of others - especially those who have actually test driven one...
My quick impressions:
As for looks - OK, it is b&$! ugly, but hey, it is an SUV and they are all ugly! For looks I would get a sports sedan! At least it looks a bit softer than the Armada (somehow, that name fits it). Anyway, this is a matter of taste...
Interior - wow! The QX56 has all the bells and whistles, lots of room, and great comfort. It reminded me a lot of the Nav in terms of appearance and some of the features (fold down seats, automatic rear hatch, etc), but had higher quality in the material and finish and had some distinctive features over the Nav & Esc (rear cam, intelligent cruise). I was really stunned by the amount of room - not surprising since it is almost 10 inches longer than an Esc.
Now for the million dollar (OK, $52K) question - is it underpowered? Unfortunately I currently have a banged up knee so I could not drive it - my wife did the driving. She thought it performed sluggishly compared to the Esc (anything we are looking at outperforms a Nav - sorry Ford-folks!), but she had overdrive engaged as well. Also they literally had just received the vehicle - so I don't know if there is anything that the dealer had yet to adjust...
Anyway, what is your experience with the performance - particularly vs the Esc?
Regarding fuel, Infiniti has very specific instructions and cautions in situations when you might have to use regular. There is no reason to guess on a $50,000 + vehicle.
Just came back from a nearby dealer. Mentioned test drive and if/when some dealing might happen. I don't think I want to go back there. Any idea when it won't be MSRP and doing a favor to give you a test drive? Maybe it's better to look a few months from now. It's still the first model year, with all the risks that go with that as considerations. Their navigation system is not touch screen, so that's already a turn off to buying current model. Really like every else - so far.
Ok.....there are no suspension adjustments to be made, but you must remove the factory air from the tires to get the optimum ride....You have to use premium fuel because the engine map is set up for it....Yes Martha, there are some discounts available, but you have to be a previous Q owner to get the respect to be given one. The ordering is done like the imported cars, they are all corraled up in Jax, FL and matched closely to what you want, that is why there are not many options. But get this, all of these vehicles being built in Canton, MS are trucked to the corral in Jax where they join up with the rest of the Infiniti fleet to be shuffled, and stacked for reshipping to the appropriate dealer. Trip time approx two weeks from factory to dealer, go figure. I hope these do not turn out to be like the Mercedes built in Alabama.....never achieved the quality of the German made. I bought mine last Sept totally in the blind, but bought three Q cars the same way and have been nothing but pleased, will be moving out of my seventh Suburban for this utility.
Did I say I think they should discount? No, they can get as much as they can for as long as they can. Some, however, are not ready to through every last cent a dealer asks on a vehicle that's just come out. They also know that the 'as much' does change. However, I was ready to buy, and had a right to ask if there might be some dealing. Now if the salesman had said, "I'd love to sell you the car. Let's see when we might have some more in stock."
I'm wondering how long an attitude I perceived, 'only MSRP and we're so independent that if you even ask about a discount we don't want to see you' will last. That was the question I asked here and offer no opinion on what price dealers should ask. For me, it's not all that great that I got to fight the rush and be treated like they are doing me a favor. I'm happy to give any dealer, at an appropriate time, a fair price and profit.
You were offended when the dealer wouldn't give you the time of day. You said you were ready to buy but only if they discounted it. Since they're not going to discount a brand new model that just hit the showroom, you weren't ready to buy. If this was 6 months from now, you're expectations for a discount would be reasonable. Certainly not now.
For anyone who really must have a discount, the demonstrators that most dealers are running at the moment will probably be available when the first main delivery hits in March.
I was wondering if anyone that has test driven both the QX56 and the Cadillac Escalade would care to comment about the performance of the QX56 vs the Esc...
