Subaru auctions off a few cars that have been damaged by windstorms. Full factory warranty except for the paint. Look for small chips and nicks.

I just picked up an Outback 2.5i a/t with only the all-weather mats and cargo net as options. OTD price (incl. D.C. tax, tags, fees) was $23,400 approx. from Fitzmall in Rockville, MD. This is the Fitzmall "value price" ($367 above the "internet" price) which gives discounts on some service and a number of free oil changes plus a free loaner car for life when serviced there. The latter was my add-on and is not pushed on you by sales force (at least not too hard).

Very good experience, great car. got the Atlantic blue. Also got the 2.9% financing and wish I could have afforded to do the 2-year financing at 0%, but all in all a great deal. Subaru has great incentives on a great car right now and Fitzmall. Highly recommended. Also thanks to the forum, which I used for weeks to track prices and do research. A great resource for consumers.

Also, salesman told me he does not work on commission. True? But there does seem to be a commission-like system based on customer satisfaction, apparently.

I am in the market for a used outback and really like the 2005/2006 version of it. I've been offered some great deals on a new 2006, but the payment is a bit more than I want.

I've seen quite a few used 2005/2006 outbacks listed on autotrader and cars.com in the Minneapolis area thar are below Bluebook...alot below it in some cases. After doing a carfax on them, they appear to be former rental cars.

Should I steer clear of these vehicles or are they worth looking into. I intend to have the car inspected before I purchase but I am concerned that these cars have been used, abused and poorly maintained. Thanks! Carolyn

Yes, their sales force is salaried. Nice. They focus on getting you exactly what you want, not the most expensive car on the lot.

I've been shopping around for a 2.5i LTD wagon and the prices I've been getting have been around $26.5k OTD (in NC, with 3% sales tax) after the $2,000 cash back. Given that it's the end of the month and model year, I was thinking I could do a little better than that. Are these reasonable prices? What should I push for?
  • iknevs1iknevs1 Member Posts: 10
Hi I was looking around for the 2.51 limited base wagon with automatic. Price ranged from 24,000 to 24,500 with a few options before tax title and doc fee. After 2000 rebate you can usually knock another 800-1200 dollar off the invoice price. So maybe you can do a little better.best of luck
  • ronsteveronsteve Member Posts: 1,234
    Where in NC are you?
What options are on the cars you're looking at?

When you start talking price-of-the-car, I back out the TTL and come up with $25675 as the figure you're posting. If that's an auto with no options, you're really only about $500 over invoice AFTER the doc fee, which around here ain't bad. If there are options, that might really be a killer deal. If it's a manual with no options, it's more than $1300 over, which isn't good at all.

If you're in the northeast part of the state, it might be worth a trip to Fitzmall in the DC area... I think they're about $700 below invoice!

**Yes, I'm properly accounting for the rebate here. Base invoice on the manual is $26315, on the auto is $27227. And I'm assuming that's a post-rebate price that was quoted in the original post.

I was just quoted $24,764 with the following options auto-dimming rear view mirrow with compass and Homelink, armrest extension, and a security system schock sensor. So basically it is $5000 off of MSRP.......do you think I can do better? They are doing "the end of the month" thing and trying to get me to complete the sale today.......I'm not quite ready to take the plunge. :P

    Thanks,
    Melinda

    Melinda,
You should be able to knock off another $1000. I am taking a delivery for a similar optioned car 2.5i (auto) limited wagon with subwoofer for exactly a thousand less than your quote from a dealer in Seattle area. The price is ofcourse pre-tax.
  • distancedriverdistancedriver Member Posts: 7
I am looking at buying a 2.5i with the current financing deals of 3.9% for 48 months. The salesman said we wouldn't get the $2000 factory rebate if we took the financing, is that true?
He quoted $24,422 for the car in Southern New York. Does this sound like a good price. No extras that I saw. I appreciate the helpful advice. I need to know before Wednesday morning when the financing deal ends. Thanks.

Last night, I traded in my 05 Legacy sedan for an 06 Outback 2.5i auto for $22,900 I'm not one to haggle, so I got the info from edmunds TMV price and knocked $2,000 off
with Subaru's rebate and am very happy. Quirk Auto in ME gives great service and no pressure. Smooth transaction. :)

What dealer did you work with in Seattle area? I am in the market for a 2.5i limited, or an XT, but with manual transmission.

Sounds like you got a good/fair deal.

    Thanks...

I just went with a friend to get a 2.5i outback wagon on july 3. The deal on the rebate was it was customer cash, so it wasn't treated like a rebate. It was like an instant discount. On the website it states u can get the customer cash and the finacing. My friend bought the blue 2 tone outback with automatic, cargo net, and all weather floormats for $21365. So thats round 23400 OTD. The kicker tho is he got 0% financing for 2 years and it comes out to $974 a month. The original monthly quote for teh same finacing before 3 days of grinding was $1167, but who ever pays for sticker. This deal was at Ron Price motors in South San Francisco, Ca. Oh yeah customer cash and financing looks like it ends today on july 5.
  • distancedriverdistancedriver Member Posts: 7
Thank you very much. I bought the car today. A 2.5i LTD wagon for $26,6000 in the blue with automatic, regular and all weather floor mats, autodimming mirror and the leather seats. I couldn't afford the 0% financing so took 5 years for 4.9% which was the deal that ended today. I looked at the car without the leather 2.5i and was just going to have the seats done in leather for $1,400 more, but the LTD was only $800 more with all the other stuff. Plus the Limited car looked better on the lot than the 2.5i they had.
  • mknappmknapp Member Posts: 13
I ended up paying $24,500 OTD for Outback 2.5i Limited Auto, autodim w/homelink, all weather mats, and security upgrade....and I ended up getting the green. I was debating between the green and the blue......I liked both a lot, but ultimately chose green.

I also took advantage of the 2 year 0% financing.

Anyway, we went on our first trip in the car over the weekend and got about 27mpg and enjoyed the drive greatly!!!

Just bought a 2.5i wagon automatic with cargo net and all weather mat last weekend for $22900 OTD. I paid additional $900 for 3yrs/36K maintenance package which including regular oil changes every 3k, tire rotation/alignment & 12.5K/36k services. They have extended the $2000 rebate to end of july.

Sounds like you got a great deal.
I am not the best negotiator, so I was thinking of working with one of the agencies that buys cars for you for cheap, but I might need to rethink. I was quoted $25,240 for the limited auto. What Seattle are dealership did you work with? Just might need to stop in today. :confuse:

I'm just wondering what kind of pricing anyone has been getting for the LL Bean wagon with NAV and how low I might be able to go. So far, I've only been able to get $1500 off an invoice of $32,754 or $31,254 before tax and it appears that local dealers have many on the lots. I also read somewhere today that the new Subies are having a price decrease for 2007 ($2000 on the LL Bean) so I'm wondering if I can use that as a bargaining chip. Or, maybe I should just wait for the new model.............. :confuse:

Thanks to the many participants on this forum for the helpful information as I was in the process of buying a new Outback. So, in the spirit of passing along info to assist future buyers, I wanted to share my price/buying experience:

I used the "fax attack" strategy similar to that advocated by fightingchance.com. Basically, I sent out about 10-12 faxes to area Subaru dealerships, asking them for their best price quotes. I received 8 replies. The lowest price bids were received from Fitzgerald (Fitzmall) in MD, Stohlmann (in Tysons Crnr, VA) and Heritage (in Owings Mills, MD). I ended up calling our local dealership, Paul Bros. of Herndon, VA (whose intial quote was $900 higher, and they agreed to match the lowest price, so I ended up purchasing from them. So, in the end, here's how the pricing broke down for the Atl blue Outback 2.5i, auto, cloth seats, with all-weather mats: $22,949, less 2000 rebate, plus taxes, tags and fees for a total OTD price of $21,797.47. We also took advantage of the 0% financing, so ended up with a nice pkg. We did all this by computer, and only had to spend 20 minutes at the dealership to sign the final papers and drive away with the car.

All in all, if you live in the Washington DC metro area, the dealerships that offered me the most competitive prices right off the bat were Fitzgerald (very pleasant and professional)and Stohlman (although the salesman here was a bit hard-edged). Other dealerships even admitted that they have a hard time beating the prices of these two large sellers. The use of the fax attack resulted in a lowering of their initial pricing by about $100 - so not sure if it was worth the time and effort, altho it did confirm for me that I was getting a decent deal.

Hope this helps and good luck shopping!

I am from Canada. I travelled over 1000km to Seattle to get the car from
Carter Subaru... deal with their internet guy. www.cars101.com is his site. I paid slightly under $24K for 2.5i limited (auto). And if you are in the US, apparently you also get their 0% financing. Heck of a deal. I did not have to negotiate any deal. He offered me a fair deal.
  • tibbatibba Member Posts: 13
I just returned from Seattle after a really nice drive back to Canada. Oh yes, I also got auto dimming mirror w/ compass, subwoofer, all weather mats. Bought it from Carter Subaru. No pressure at all. After my correspondence on email for the deal, actual deal was sealed over 5 minutes telephone call. I paid $23.8K for 2.5i ltd auto.

I did not have to negotiate anything.
  • djettadjetta Member Posts: 22
Was $23.8K before or after the rebate? I'm going Outback shopping tomorrow and would love to have this info. Thanks!
  • tibbatibba Member Posts: 13
after rebate. it was through the internet sales manager who i contacted through www.cars101.com. I don't know what the arrangement is for walking in to purchase. I did notice that Subaru has dropped prices for 2007 by almost $1000 in some cases. you will find details through the listed website. Good Luck! I did notice another dealer offering extended warranty.
  • tibbatibba Member Posts: 13
OTD ... so does it includes the sales tax? The price I paid did not include WA sales tax.
  • mknappmknapp Member Posts: 13
I guess that could be confusing. It does not include sales tax because Oregon does not charge a sales tax.

FYI to anyboyd who is interested... I just purchased a 2005 XT Ltd with 12,500 miles in silver/black for $25,500, below KBB. It seems to be in excellent condition. I drove and looked at about 10 cars before finding the right one. The price might seem high but this model is in high demand locally. Seller was Flatirons Subaru in Boulder and buying experience was just fine. In and out the door in about an hour, no fun and games.

After checking around almost all dealerships in the Twin Cities, I decided on a "normal" Outback 2.5i over the Forester Turbo and the Outback XT or 3.0, and the SR5 4runner. Main factors were seeing petrol prices up just the day before, the good price (opportunity knocks) I received (after a ton of haggling) in Burnsville Subaru, and the service of a very good young salesman.
With a package that included the weather mats, the cargo area mat and net, and the autodimming mirror, we close on $21,836, final price. Also, they give me 2 years of free mantainance. Just $5,000 off invoice. At the beginning of the month I bought my wife's Sienna $4,000 under invoice, so its a good streak. I think this dealer has like 3 more in stock.
The deciding factor for the manager, was showing Fitzmall quotes, which I printed before,(in Pennsilvania thought), where prices were cheaper, but at the end, the guy decided to honor it. As told, I was into this dealership looking for a good opportunity to buy, even thinking about a new Forester '06 at $18,500. They have like 6 in stock.
The only think I didn't like was all the haggle, because previously by phone I thought I had the price settled.
If you need more info, tune in this thursday the Subaru Chat. Those people who attended last thursday, made me open my eyes on the opportunity that Subaru is giving now.
  • nickelnickel Member Posts: 147
Sorry, in that last post, $3,500 under invoice, $5,000 under MRSP.

To anyone who may be interested in pricing, I got my 2006 LL Bean Outback wagon for $27.3 (before tax and rebates included). Included in the price is the arm rest extension, all weather mats and rear cargo net. Got this nice deal from Becker in Allentown PA and will pick car up next week. Very easy transaction and all done over the phone. Looking forward to my new wheels, but I will miss my Jetta.

Here's my offer in the Pittsburgh area. I think I can do better.

    $27,012 MSRP
    $23,490 Sale Price

They did offer $8K for a 2001 F150 Supercrew with 82K miles. Runs good but has some exterior flaws.

I have a situation concerning a salvage title and hope you all can help. My mother-in-law bought a 2000 honda civic back in 2002. It has a salvage title. The dealer told her that it had a rear collision, I believe in 2001.
Obviously she bought it anyway and has driven it up until now, without the slightest problem. She recently bought a new car and wants to sell the civic. She has taken care of the civic, maintenancing(sp?)it regularly. My wife and I are interested because it seems like a good car. What should we be concerned about if we decide to buy it?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Make sure your insurance company is willing to cover it, because some aren't.

Sounds like it's been a long time, and no problems have crept up, so you have inside knowledge. Still, the car has less value than an equivalent non-salvage car, no matter how good it's been.

It's a potential deal if she gives you a good price...

I ended-up buying at Bowser near Century III. Pretty smooth transaction. Little haggling. The sticker was about $26,700. They basically offered me invoice minus the rebate minus the holdback and about $8.5k for an 01 Ford Supercrew. Sold.

FYI..they offered me a 6 year/72K mile bumper-to-bumper extended warranty for about $950. I might take them up on that.

If that's a Subaru Gold warranty then go for it, the price is great.

Remember you get roadside assistance for the full 6 years. OE replacement parts, too.

Hi, just picked up my 2006 Subaru Legacy SE wagon, Atl Blue with Taupe Interior.
Options: Splash Guards and all Cargo nets (4) in the rear trunk area.
Total out the door cost was $21,500 including tax and tags.

    Breakdown:
MSRP: $24973 (Note: cargo nets were thrown in at no cost, did not reflect in the sales price).
    Discount: $2876.24
    Less: $2000 rebate
    Selling price: $20096.24
    Taxes: $1109.76
    Dealer Fee: $99
    Reg/title: $20
    MD tire recycle fee: $4
    MVA fees - 2 yr. Reg 128+ Title 23 + lien 20: $171

Excellent salesman, very courteous and professional. No pressure/gimmicks. Even let me do a full test drive yesterday. Customary full tank of gas provided. Bought at Herb Gordon Subaru in Silver Spring (Briggs Chaney Rd auto park).
I took advantage of the 'free money' (0% for 24 months, no processing fees here) for part of the purchase price. Why not?
Service dept. let me pick up the auto dimming mirror/compass + homelink kit for $175 delivered outside the deal.
    :)

I've read a few threads re:Salvage titles, and they basically say "Stay away".

I'm still curious because I have an "opportunity" to buy a 2006 Caravan with 5 miles on it for $11k. The problem (as reported): Hail damage. It is all body work and looks like it is a relatively inexpensive fix.

What kind of "gotchas" should I look for?

The van is in Tennessee and I live in Georgia.

    Can I insure it?

    Will it have manufacturer warranty?
  • s4audis4audi Member Posts: 4
I just bought a 2007 Outback LTD Wagon for $25.1k before TTL. It has autodimming mirror, armrest extension and all weather mats as options. I believe it is approximately $1,500 below invoice.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
My insurance company will insure those for liability only, no collision or comprehensive.

It's a huge risk. If it's stolen you may be out $11,000.

I think the manufacturer's warranty will not cover the paint or body, i.e. anything that may have been affected by the hail. The powertrain should still be covered, but you should verify that.

I'd still avoid this van like Mad Cow Disease.

I just bought my OB 2.5i Wagon (automatic) here in Bellingham, WA. Got the champagne color I wanted; 4 miles on the car. No other bonuses (all weather mats, cargo nets, etc...although I want both.) Very excited to be a new Sub owner.

Traded in a '92 Honda Accord with 137k miles, average condition(that had a salvaged title -unbeknownst to me as I bought it used a few years back from a private party.)

Bottom line: Told my salesman that I didn't care how he did it but I wanted to pay $20k plus TTL, nothing more. Dealer utilized $2,000 rebate and the trade-in and got it done. All told I paid $22k and change, including TTL (about 10%).

Just want to know, did I do OK? Figure I didn't do bad but after reading the various posts I was just wondering what others think. Thanks!

I did the internet quote thing and got several VA dealerships to drop their price to match the $99 dealer processing fee in Maryland. Ended up getting a 2006 2.5i Limited in Champagne Gold with auto dimming mirror, wheel locks, security upgrade, arm rest extension, floor mats, and cargo net for $24,350 including the dealer processing fee (not including taxes, tags, registration) at Stohlman in Tysons Corner. Is that a good deal? Also, is the maintenance package and extended warranty worth it? I haven't purchased those yet. Just a note on trade-ins: VA dealers use the Kelly Black book and not Edmunds...

    Hi

I'm thinking about leasing a 2006 Subaru 2.5i Wagon (automatic, 48 months, 12K miles per year). We were quoted $376, $0 down in Riverhead Long Island.

    Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

This car is the base model, no frills. MSRP 22,800 End of the month mid week deal, got the sale price to 20,300. Dealer claimed he was making no money on this deal, but I have my doubts since this dealer does a lot of volume and I'm sure they get bonuses for sales quotas.

Anyhow I was pleased with the deal, add tax (nasty 5%), title, tag, doc fee and total was 21,639. This deal was in ME.

One of the dealers has been advertising weekend special, a 07 automatic Outback basic for $19,995.
  • zfkzfk Member Posts: 8
That sounds like quite the deal (though I think manual trans are better)-- you can just hear the salespeople saying "sorry, we just sold the last stock number in that ad" bs line. The slowing economy/crashing housing market may bring some killer deals near year end, but I had to act now.

The dealer I bought from cleared out the 06 legacy outback 5 spd (msrp25k+-)recently at 19995, but sold out before I got there. I was satisfied with the 07 price, even the dealers got to make a little and Im sure they did.

    Sorry for the long post...

Just bought an 06 Willow Green Auto 2.5i Wagon last night. Ironically I think I could have gotten a better deal 2 months ago on the same promotion (ending Sept 5 - $2000 cash back + 0.0%). Multiple dealers have told me that prices have gone up from July since the selection is dwindling on 06s. Was talking to about 4 dealers and there were mostly white and champagne left (which we didn't really want).

Anyway, thought I'd post my deal for any would be buyers this holiday weekend.

Started at invoice + destination (24,917) minus $2000 (though this comes off at the end so Tax is charged on the sale price before) and $7200 trade in credit (70K 2001 Honda Civic EX coupe with some cosmetic issues, KBB private party ~$9000, wholesale $7-8K). Stared at each other for an hour (love the process) and they came down another $400 off the $24917. Stared at each other for another hour and finally got another $400 for the trade. So in the end:

$26800 OTD (nice 8.25% tax here) - $2000 incentive - $7600 for our Honda with the balance at 0% for two years. Price of car before fees factoring incentive was $24517 - $2000 = $22517.

It's not the $23400 OTD posted earlier in July for my area for an Atlantic Blue with some options but I did get an offer for a white one from the same dealership that the previous poster purchased from (Ron Price in SSF) for about $600 less than where I bought the green one (Santa Cruz). Also got a quote from Carlsen for a Willow Green at about $800 more for the same car but with autodim + homelink + armrest extension (all things I don't really care for).

We factored in the free oil changes for the first 3 years while under warranty (~9*40 = $360) + the 10% off service and parts and had them toss in a full detail at the 7500 mile service and figured it was close enough to a wash to take the color we preferred. Also, other dealers were offering about $1000 less for the trade.

Anyways, in the end it's more than I wanted to pay but right along the lines of TMV according to Edmunds and pretty much average over the 4 dealers in the SF Bay Area I have been talking too for what's left of the 06s.

Some other notes...we did go to Stevens Creek. They were pushing hard for the 07 Basic (stamped steel wheels, no cross bars, no power drivers seat, no heated seats but yes! an auxiliary mp3 input and XM capable) but we wanted the 06 incentives. We wanted the 0% so we could put our cash into high-yield savings. Around here you can get the 07 at invoice minus $750 incentive w/o even trying (~$20000 before TTL) but APR is ~5-7% (and we had 800+ credit scores).

Also it's a relief to not have to deal with selling the Honda private party.

Good luck if you are going out hunting this weekend. Pickings in SF Bay Area are slim but you should still be able to do TMV without too much issue and prolly a lot better if you want a white one. I learned my lesson...bite when the promotion starts when dealer stock is high ;)

We had gone to "motor city" to test drive an '06 Volvo V50 T5 AWD. I had really enjoyed the Volvo (sticker on it was just over $34K), but the salesman I was dealing with wasn't empowered to really deal on the car since his managers were all offsite at some used car event they had going on. So, we strolled across the street to Heuberger VW/Subaru (Colorado Springs) and just decided to see what they had in stock (we have a '97 Outback Limited that has served us well for 4+ years).

Salesman approached and eventually we conveyed we really wanted an Outback with a manual transmission and leather. That always reduces the playing field considerably. They had a used '06 2.5 Limited (not XT) with 22K miles for about $25K. We decided to at least take it for a spin, but were left wanting more (especially after the V50). As he checked his inventory we got a free latte and chai and I noticed an XT Limited in the show room with leather and manual. I brought it to the attention of the salesman and he said he hadn't thought to check the turbos.

Long story short: Sticker on it was just over $32K and we got it for $26000 + dealer fees ($398) + tax (includes the $1500 rebate). Felt pretty good about it since Edmunds FMV is $2K more. We opted for the 0% 2 year loan. Slick car, although I do still feel the Volvo V50 was slightly better all around (when I called to press the Volvo guy he said their lowest was $27,800 - close to tempting, but since they didn't have any finance deals it would have been several thousand more).
