We noticed the 40/20/40 (manual) seat only has lumbar support on the driver's side. I assume that's just the way this seat comes. Has anyone checked into getting lumbar support on the passenger side? Is this possible? I'll have check with the dealer tomorrow as they're closed on Sundays in Colorado.

I changed the oil for the first time Sat. at 1500 mi. Wanted to get the factory oil out and get some fresh shell rotella 15/40 and a new filter in.From now on I will change every 3250 to 3500.No problem to change, filter is huge, holds almost two quarts, I always prime my filters. The filter must be torqued more than I do on my gas engines, I guess because of higher oil presure on the psd. I debated on going with the rotella 10/30 for the winter but the 15/40 is good down to 25 deg. it does not get that cold here in n/Al. that often and I figure when it does I will just leave her in the garage and drive one of my other vehicles. What kind of oil did you other guys with psd decide to go with? I have always used Castrol gtx in all of my vehicles for the last 20 years but they don't make a oil for the psd so had to decide on a new brand, did my research and decided on Shell. Just curious as to what others are going with? I love this truck she is a keeper!! Averaging 20 mpg so far one tank was almost 22, all tanks have been a 70% hwy 30% cty mixture.

Mccdon1: I remember your post!! You were dealing with Tunya also. Didn't you get your truck basically on time, according to their 6 to 8 week promise??? Back in September or early October if I remember right. How is it going?? What kind of gas mileage are you getting and are there any complaints?

Crazyelvis: I honestly can't remember the last time I pumped .75 to .80 cent gas !!!!! We, in Washington State, have one of the highest gas taxes in the U.S.. We just got through passing an initiative reducing our excise tax on our liscense tabs. Would have had to pay over $860 a year in tabs but now it shouldn't be more than $50 or $60. Thank GOD for small favors!!!! This may sound stupid but do you think your tank isue could have adverse affects on you'r gas mileage figures. Sounds like the fuel down there is REALLY aerated and needs to settle a little before a full tank can be accomplished. Don't know what I'm talking about -- but it sounds like a good line of bull. Good Luck!!!

Just curios, What configuration is your truck?
It sounds like you are getting great mpg. I just picked up my beast yesterday and checked mpg after 200 miles looked like mpg was about 15 mpg, I'am hoping for about 17, maybe 18? mpg when she is broke in.
I can't believe how much time I have spent just looking at her,This is my dream truck and I just love looking at it. My wife thought she woulden't have to hear about it any more now that its here, but now she has to listen to me babble about all the extras I want to get for the beast. She does'nt understand how I can order a truck just the way I want it, then go buy a bunch of add on's to change it. WOMEN ! I just don't understand them ! Oh well we have to live with them I guess.
Well it's been about 15 min since I last looked at my beast, so I need to look at it again. Latter

The trip computer shows the outside temp in Farenheit and Celcius. It shows the miles per gallon and the kilometers per liter. It shows the miles to empty and the kilometers to empty. It also shows the direction you facing (N, NW, W, etc).

No body side molding on my duallys.

I am almost ready to order a 2500SD SC V10 SB and
have a couple of questions that I haven't found
    conclusive answers to:
    1) Is the back seat in the Lariat leather or
vinyl? I have seen contradictory posts on this
    subject and am confused.
    2) Does the Lariat OH display have a readout for
outside temperature as well as its other functions?
    3) Will the 3.73 axle handle a 10000# max loaded
fifth wheel or will I regret not ordering the 4.30?
I am trying to balance performance and gas mileage
    while not towing.
  • lewaclewac Member Posts: 151
we're about a week or two away from getting our hands on the Lariat ourselves. but am quite certain the rear seat is vinyl. in answer to your tow. I've posted this issue fairly extensively in this thread in the past so it's worth a look-see. you didn't mention the total weight when fully loaded, though. if you're pulling near 10k then there's not much reason to go with the 4.3 diff (your mileage will suffer somewhat in hilly terrain, though). But if you're towing even 12 or 13k only occasionally then the 3.73 ought to do you just fine. remember that the v10 has considerable torque to help you along here.

Just when I had decided what to order, I am rethinking it--

    1) I have always had LB. How difficult is it to haul plywood etc in a SB? Any cons to SB?

    2) I can't find a 'Bright Amber' to look at--can someone describe the color? the ford brochure has too little color samples.

    3) What dealers has anyone used in Virginia? someone mentioned Richmond and/or Salem?

thanks--the time is getting closer to ordering....

I believe the bright amber is a orangish red color. Last year (99) it was a lariat only color, my old boss had one and I thought it was the ugliest color ever but now I like it and hate the woodland green for 2000. I wish Ford would bring the true purple back that somehow made it on to 500 SD's in very early '99

I took a week off and I was way, way, behind.

Jerryg5 the lariat seats are leather in the front and "simulated" leather in the back. I would chalange you to tell the difference. If I hadn't been told I would have thought they were both leather. That is why there seems to be so much confusion. they really do look that good.
My truck pulls my 10,500# boat/trailer combo and my family like a dream. I would recomend going F350 for loads larger than this though.

As brutus stated the outside temp is shown on the computer (mine reads 3 to 4 degrees high) you can change it from f to c and visa versa.

Porky. I too am relieved about the tab inititive (695) I am a little bothered by the price of diesel. I make gasoline and diesel and I can tell you we sell Diesel for $.66 and regular unleaded for $.77 on the wholesale market. So why does diesel cost the same or more at the pump?????

I have 4200 miles on my 2000 PSD SRW 4x4 Lariat. 3.73 limited slip. White over gold "I LOVE MY TRUCK" My wife bought it for me, for my 40th birthday I better like it. Rick @ T4F

lewac- The dry wt on my fifth wheel is about 8000# including all options. Allowing 2000# for fluids and supplies, I figure the most I will ever tow is 10000#. Still think the 3.73 and the V10 combo will work?

Time4family: What rearend do you have in your truck? What do you think about the above combo?

    Thanks for your input

I have 2000,xlt,cc,sb,psd,6sp mnl,3.73ls,265 tires, loaded. I feel sure I am giving acurate mpg figures. I pump the tank full, and I know my 29 gallon tank is correct because one time I got 30 gallons in it, I think the filler neck must hold a good bit extra. Anyway then I just figure the miles on how many gallons it takes the next time. I normaly always shift at around 1700 to 1800 rpm and drive with a easy foot. This psd is awsome I love it. As I have said before just hearing it run gives me pleasure! But I am a dihard Ford truck man so this beast is right up my alley!!

I ordered my truck from Guam through military car sales, Titus-Will only handled delivery. It was real nice to pick it up 12 hours after getting back home!

I am relieved about not having to pay $700+ for tabs every year, now if we could do something about the sales tax!

I took my truck on a long road trip (Florida), 3200 miles each way. I checked my mileage for the entire trip each way. 12.5 MPG going down, bought a hard tonneau cover in Florida and got 13.3 MPG for the return trip. (F250 Supercab 142" WB, 4X4, V-10, Auto, 3.73ls) Mostly 75 MPH on cruise control.

No problems, still love to drive her!

How many rpms is your engine running at when in 6th gear at 70mph? I have the psd auto 4.10 ls
and mine is running about 2400rpm does this sound about right? I expected it to be a lower rpm.
This is my first diesel ( As if you coulden't tell) Dont get me wrong I love my truck but I want to make sure it's right; thanks.

I think mine at 70 mph is right at 2000 rpm but remember I have got 3.73 and also the 265, bigger, tires. What tires do you have? I am driving my f150 today but when I drive the f250 next I will verify exactly what rpm she is at when going 70mph. This is my first diesel also.

I picked my beast up Saturday morning. 2k F-250,Black/Tan,SD,SB,SRW,PSD,Lariat,Loaded. Wow! This thing is truley amazing. I've never experienced so many looks and people just moving out of your way. I went to dinner downtown Chicago and requested to have the truck remain in front outside the restaurant. No problem said the valet. Of course, no way was I letting this thing be parked by someonelse. This thing received more looks than some of the exotic sports cars parked adjacent. I sat next to the window overlooking this beauty. I hardly ate any of my food. One guy looked for about 5 minutes and walked around the entire truck admiring it. For all of you waiting, this thing is worth every buck. I can't wait to take this on Holiday.

When the mileage computer says you have "33 miles until empty", you actually have more than that as they have calibrated it for some reserve, don't know how much. I read that in the Owners Manual for my 98 Expedition, that has the same mileage computer.

Bright Amber is very similar or the same as 1995 F-150 "Canyon Copper", I had a "Canyon Copper" Eddie Bauer with "Tucson Bronze" trim, great combination. I have seen a solid 250 SD in "Bright Amber" and it would probably be my color choice. "Bright Amber" is really a bad name for the color to me it is more of a dark copper.
