Your right, although I gave them a 500.00 non refundable deposit when I ordered back in july....to be honest I can affort to take that hit and I have enough influence in my job that I could steer many young military people from this establishment if I so desire.
You'll get your $500 dollars back if you make a fuss. Use the small claims court procedure if necessary. The dealer needs to show you caused them to sustain a loss. Unless you ordered some unsellable combination of options they'll find it hard to prove on an '06 Wrangler.
Just go in there and get annoyed in a controlled way at noon on a Saturday!
South Denver Jeep dealer, MSRP $25,988.00 paid 22,300 + got $2000.00 back with my military incentive and, finance through jeep dealer @ 4%. They wanted $490.00 for processing vehicle. I thanked them for their time and got up to leave.... The $490.00 went away. I got the deal and am a happy camper! Best MPG: 22.05 through Rocky Mount. Nat. Park. Three years, I hope they have a diesel wrangler if so, I will get one!
OK here is the final, I went in there at lunch today told them I wasnt unhappy with there offer so I told them I wanted the employee discount + 1000.00 Chrysler rebate as well as 500.00 military discount. The salesman was quick to answer up on the military rebate but said nothing about the rest after I got the sales manager and the general manager involved we closed the deal at $25,738.00
MSRP $29,560.00 - $2322.00 Employee Discount - $1000.00 Chrysler factory discount - $500.00 Military discount
Total to be financed, 25,738.00 I was happy with that and the new rubicon is sitting in my driveway now but thet tried to slip a fast one by me in the paper work. They tried to fool me as I put 500.00 down when I ordered it and they tried to use that in the figures and left out the $500.00 military rebate, of course I caught it!!
Beware they are shameless and will do anything tosave a penny!! :shades:
I have been trying to shop for a used Wangler for almost 2 months and got no luck at all. It is almost impossible to find a ~5-year old Wrangler in overall good conditioned in San Jose area. Most private party' jeeps are 4 cyl, stick shift , very high milage and way above kbb price. Also there are very few from private parties are advertised in local newspaper. I was wondering other parts of the country having similar market conditions? Why there are so few auto trans out there by the way?
I just bought a 2005 Wrangler Sport (with 12 miles) and I think I got a good deal. MSRP was $24,245 and Edmunds TMV had it pegged at $22,900 (including the options).
I drove it out the lot for $22,000, which included CA taxes and DMV fees.
One thing I'm not sure of is whether or not I should've purchased the 60mo/75K scheduled maintenance service contract. I wound up paying $1890 for it. It seemed like a good deal at the time. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks!
BTW I really love the Jeep (first one) and I've never had so much fun going out on "small" errands (just so I can drive it). I feel as giddy as a 12 year old school girl who just got her first bra LOL. And I'm a 37 year old dude
One thing I'm not sure of is whether or not I should've purchased the 60mo/75K scheduled maintenance service contract. I wound up paying $1890 for it. It seemed like a good deal at the time. Any thoughts on this?
Just simple math really. Will you cover 15k @ year over the next five years? Would you have had the basic stuff like oil changes etc. done at the dealership or your local Quick Lube? What is actually covered in the service contract?
I do my own maintenance and use the 'B' or Severe Service schedule, which means much more frequent servicing than the standard 'A' schedule, and in the last six years/60k I doubt that I've spent $500 in top quality parts and fluids.
Having a 06 unlimited hardtop, auto, cruise, tilt, fog, ect. delivered next week at 100 over invoice and then also getting the $ 1,500 rebate taken off of that price. It will be my tow for my motorhome. So happy with the deal I'm having it trucked to my house 1,000 miles away for $650 total 22,647 w/o shipping and tax and lic. I'll do tax and lic. in my state. Dave Smith Motors Idaho
You say the deposit is non-refundable and that is incorrect... All you need to say is you will spread the terrible experience to others. They don't like bad info to spread of them...
Looking to negotiate a good deal for an 06, and have been throwing around the idea of getting sport with some decent options msrp 27,300. I am awaiting the info for the family and friends program. will i be able to combine the new programs that include 2 years gas($2367 in gas alone!!) and maintenance with the 1% below invoice??
then the next obstical will be figuring out whether to lease or finance
"friends and family program", is this some new discount program that Jeep is expected to announce soon? Thanks.
2011 Toyota Camry, 2014 Jeep Wrangler, 2017 Honda Civic Coupe, 2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid XSE, 2021 Toyota Tundra, 2022 Toyota 4Runner, 2022 Tesla Model 3
How do you like the new Unlimited. I'm thinking of getting a Rubicon Unlimited. Can you tell me a little more about the deal that you got so that I will have a little more info as I talk to the dealership.
I'm trying to get some current feedback on "out the door" price experiences recently with 06 Rubicon or Rubicon Unlimited to help educate myself before I'm getting in heavy debate with a dealership about 50 miles from my home that has 4 - 6 on the lot. What have they been selling for "out the door" all incintives and rebates included?
I have 1100 miles on my unlimited so far and it's great to drive. I have had it in dirt and freeway so far and it's great. it's tracks fine at 70-75 mph. A little wind noise and a few rattles that I'm working on. I think the unlimited has a 3:73 ratio where the rubicon is a 4:13 or something like that so the high end speed would be less for a Rubicon. I bought mine at Dave Smith Motors in Idaho and they sold it to me at $ 90 over invoice but then gave me the 1500 rebate so it was about 1400 under invoice. This is the way Dave Smith does it on all cars. go to Edmunds to get invoice then see what rebated apply add a few hundred and thats what you should be able to get it for. If your not sure of the option package look on the sticker of the jeeps for sale then go back to Edmunds to price them out.
I purchased an Unlimited Automatic from Preston Jepp in Dallas, TX. It was a no haggle dealership. I was in an out in 1-hour. I started my negotiations on the phone and they quoted me the price right away. No hassles. Here is what I got:
Jeep Unlimited Automatic with 7 spkr, Leather Steering wheel, Floor Mats and Fuel Cap.
MSRP 26120. INVOICE (per Edmunds) 23960 MY PRICE 24300
The nice thing about this dealership is there were no hidden fees or attempts to wrangle a few extra dollars out of me. The loan processing fee was only $50 while at a lot of dealerships it’s $200 to $300. That was the only extra fee – no over priced gas, no delivery charge or DMV fee. Also, there was no push for clear coat protection or embroidered seats. The best part is that they gave me the fair value for my trade in. No hassles there. I got $1600 for a 95 Nissan Pathfinder – the car had 165K miles, some mechanical issues and was dirty.
I got 1000 cash back from Chrysler and 3.9 financing. I could have gotten another $1000 ($2000 total) but the interest rate would have been higher.
Overall I could have paid maybe $800 less if I had really shopped around and was willing to haggle. But I enjoyed the up front buying experience and the no hassle/no hidden fees negotiations. The best part is that I got the exact Jeep I wanted and drove it home that day.
As of this morning I finalized the terms on an 06 Solar Yellow Rubicon. I bought it from TradeMark Auto Group (Bryan, TX) and it has been an awesome experience. I live a Houston which is quite a ways from Bryan (120 miles) and did everything via email. I sent in the request, the salesman replied with a quote, I countered and the deal was accepted including 1 yr oil changes and free delivery to my home. I highly recommend this dealership. Cant wait until tomorrow when they drop off my new toy!
I just purchased a 2005 X Wrangler MSRP 23995.00 Purchase Price 15995.00
I highly recommend a 2005 vs a 2006. 1) The 05 has a 7 yr/70K mile warranty vs. the 3 yr. 36K warranty on the 06 2) The bumpers on the 06's are cheapened vs th 05's. They left off the caps and put a plug on each end of the bumper. 3) There is virtually no difference mechanically, interior, etc betwee the two years. I prrchased min at Rancho Auto Group in San Diego Ca. I hate buying cars and hasseling wit the dealers but thie was the best buying experience I ever had . I highly recommend this dealership.
With 950 miles on it for $17,000. Guy traded it for a Highlander and it had been sitting in his garage for 2 yrs. He bought it to ship overseas and he never went.
The Toyota dealer saleman is a friend of mine and I got it before they were about to wholesale it. It came with the hardtop and was fully loaded AC the works.
I financed it through my credit union and they gave me a 6 yr. 100k warranty (6yrs. from day of purchase) for $1,700.
I went to a dealership today, and though it didnt have a stick and it had a 2nd choice of color i wanted (silver) i test drove it and loved it. he offered me 5k off msrp + incentives. and also I have a trade in, not sure what i should do. seems like a good deal, but are autos in wranglers really worth getting? any suggestions would be great. thanks in advance. mike
I was able to pick up my Unlimted with H package, 6 disk changer, stick, soft top, side steps for 22,500 - and I was given more on my trade by 1500 then other places so 5500 off sticker sounds really good - enjoy and don't settle - if you want the stick find it - I love my stick.
From Huffines in Plano, Tx I got mine + cruise, Sirius, 6 dsk chrg, security, pretty much loaded for 26,300 MSRP of 30,500. Now is the time to buy before the 07s get here.
I was going to wait for an 07, but the more I looked over the changes I decided to get an 06.
Everyone here seems to have bought a rubicon or special edition, so my purchase probably seems insignificant....Anyway, I got an 06 base model wrangler SE totally stock. Paid 15995.00. MSRP is 19500. Invoice on edmonds is 17 something. so I think I did ok.
I have been haggling with 36 dealerships through the internet on a 2007 Wrangler x Unlimited 4x4 base. The invoice is $21,126 and I got them down to $20,450 thats $676 below invoice without any incentives. Is that a good deal or should I keep workin them?
I have been haggling with 36 dealerships ........and I got them down to $20,450 thats $676 below invoice without any incentives...........should I keep workin them?
Thirty six dealerships!!!! Where's the Emotorcon for "slaps forehead and collapses in a crumpled heap"? Maybe this will do......
Fact of life, there's always another few bucks the deal can be reduced by if the dealer wants the sale badly enough. However, you have to ask yourself, do I really want to buy a Jeep or do I just enjoy haggling.
I have another quick question. When people say the got a car below invoice does it generally mean below invoice including the shipping fee, or below invoice without the shipping fee?
Ex. Invoice 20,000. shipping few 600 so it would = 20,600 so would under invoice mean under 20,000 or under 20,600?
What does it matter? You've been negotiating with thirty six different dealers, presumably for the best price. The best price will be the lowest. It doesn't get much easier than that.
Yesterday after two test drives (though no off road) and long and thorough internal/external inspections at two different dealers, I ordered a 2007 silver, six speed Jeep Wrangler X Unlimited 4 door. I believe I got a fair deal, maybe not the best, but my time is worth money too. Anyway, my out the door price, not including sales tax, (as that will vary between states), was $24,649. But that is the "out the door price" and includes all of the options listed below, as well as destination ($660), dealer transfer ($299), dealer advertising ($220), and registration ($85). The options I got, which are included in that price are: - preferred pkg 23S - Freedom 3-pc. hard top - Front & rear mats - engine block heater - anti-spin rear differential - AM/FM 6 Disc radio w/MP3 connector - Sirius Satelite Radio - 17 x 7.5 aluminum wheels - front supplemental side impact air bags - Locking Fuel Cap - Chrome Fuel Filter cover (aftermarket but OEM equipment)
Maybe if I'd gone to several dealers and played them off each other I could've saved a few hundred bucks, but for me, the extra time and effort just isn't woth it. My Jeep should arribve in 6-8 weeks. I think I'll be one of the first in my area to own one, as the two dealers I went to each only had one in stock and they were holding them as demos.
Sorry, my mistake. It wasn't a dealer transfer fee, but a dealer conveyance fee. I asked about it and they said "It can't be waived" so I replied that they don't have to waive it, just reduce the price by that much. After more negotiations, we settled on price. So whether I'm paying for it, or it the price was reduced by that much, depends upon how you view the final cost.
As for the fuel filter, no, that was a typo I missed. You are correct, that it is a non-locking fuel filler (gas cap) cover, though the cap underneath it will lock. After some though, I called the dealer and changed it to satin black from chrome, as I didn't think chrome would look as sharp with the silver paint, and could appear to be an attempt at bling, which is just wrong on a Jeep.
The dealer said MSRP for my Jeep was $26,250. which of course doesn't include any of the ancillary fees, so based on that, I'm pleased with my price.
My wife and I recently attempted to purchase a 2007 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited from about 5 seperate dealers. Most had little information on the differences and similarities between the new models, and they could hardly tell us options and costs. Finally we got some facts and were surprised at how rude dealers were about the price. All but one told us "They won't go for less than sticker" some remarked "Hey, some dealers are marking them above sticker!" DON'T PAY STICKER OR ABOVE!!!!! We bought our 2007 Wrangler Sahara with Sirus radio, floor mats, tow group, and limited slip. We paid 500 over invoice, dealer gave us a copy, we were flexible on time so we ordered the exact one we wanted.
MAKE SURE you dont buy from dealers trying to swindle you into paying over sticker. Pretty soon dealer lots will be flooded with Wranglers and all will be dealing. If anyone is interested the dealership we bought from was less than 30 miles from our home in New Mexico.
Hi Stevebo777, That sounds like a great deal and for sure you should go with that deal. No doubt about that! I am trying to get an invoice or under invoice deal for a 07 Unlimited or Sahara, but most dealership still want to make a buck on the mark up. How did you find the dealer that went under invoice price? And how did you dealt with 36 dealers online? I am tried all these” under invoice” web sites, but they are bogus, as they link to the same dealers and I had to get back to each of them, that I am not interested in the MSRP price.
Also I am located in California, I would be interested in the dealership , that you got your deal for the 2007 wrangler from. I am looking right now into all kind of possibilities to avoid a high mark up on a new wrangler. Thanks
Prices are all over the place at the moment. Invoice at best, to $6k ADM at worst.
The best way to get a good deal is to wait until supply matches demand. It's hard to blame the dealer if people are willing to pay silly mark-ups just to be first on the block.
Waiting a while is also a good way to avoid the teething troubles that every new model has.
How do you get the dealerships to give you a quote over e-mail? I've tried twice and they want me to setup a meeting with them in person, which I know will be nothing more than a high-pressure sales call.
Ok... just recently had a Jeep test drive... test drove a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and a Jeep Compass. Not to happy with the Compass... I would have been if the thing came with a 6 cyl option.
Anyways! I drove the Wrangler and had the best experience ever... I live in NY currently, so of course i didnt take it off road. Here's the deal... I am moving to CA in Jan and seriously want to purchase a wrangler... The model i feel may be right for me is the Wrangler X, with regular tires (to get back and forth from work in CA) and not pay a large amount considering I am new such a type of vehicle.
I wanted to know... is the Wrangler X, Auto, capable of going off road. I mean... i know it cant do what a Rubicon can... but im looking for something to take off road once a month with a close friend to New Mexico, Nevada and Arizona. Is this considered a good starter for Wranglers? Or is it soo incapable that I would be driving around a vehicle that looks like it can go off, but cant perform off?
Any replies would be greatly appreciated in regards to plus and minus' of a X Automatic... I really want to jump in a Wrangler X Automatic by january after my move to CA.
The model i feel may be right for me is the Wrangler X, with regular tires (to get back and forth from work in CA) and not pay a large amount considering I am new such a type of vehicle.
Excellent, you've thought about what you'll be using the Jeep for, and then picked the model most suitable for your needs, rather than just go the biggest, baddest etc.
You will be absolutely amazed at how capable an offroad vehicle a basic Wrangler is, even on 'street' tires. Auto vs manual is strictly a personal choice. Neither outweighs the other, either on or off road. And if you find yourself offroading more than you thought, it's easy to upgrade your tires a little.
Mac24 is correct. You would also be wise to add the anti-spin (limited slip) differential, as that will give the rear better traction than without, especially on loose surfaces like sand, snow and ice.
wow thank you so much for the response... i must admit the biggest and the baddest did look perfect... the unlimited looked priceless... but i just know that i am buying too much jeep for what i will do with it... the way i see it... if i love my jeep standard... i can always upgrade like you said... or sell and buy the big guns...
new or used now is the serious question... cause i hear some dealers have great deals on wranglers (used)...
New! The 2007 Wrangler is much better than the outgoing '06 model and cheaper too for what you get. It sits higher, drives better, has more safety features, a larger engine, and is just as capable, if not more, offroad than the outgoing model. The roof options offer more flexibility, the frame is stiffer and the ride is smoother. But don't take my word for it, look at the viewpoints of the various four wheeler magazines - they love it too, and one already voted it 4x4 of the year. Don't be fooled by your dealer who may try to convince you to get the '06: that is likely because he wants them off his lot. If you are willing to wait, and order one built to your specifications, you should be able to get an '07 at invoice or lower. If you need it now, you will probably have to pay more. Shop around, there are deals out there. Good luck and enjoy.
Full disclosure: I own a (built to my specifications) Silver '07 JK Wrangler X, 6 speed.
So what leverage do you use if you order one from a dealer and can wait while it's on order? What incentive do they have to not charge over invoice? I definetly want to go this route but I want to find what my best barganing chip is.
The only incentive for the dealer is if it's an extra sale that wouldn't otherwise have been made. That way it's an additional unit on the sales board at no cost or effort to the dealer.
You need to show the dealer that there's no way you'll buy an existing model from stock and that you'll give your business to another dealer if you have to. That's the stick. The carrot is to make the sale as easy as possible. Be ready with a deposit, be realistic with your trade if you have one, and make sure your finances are in order.
The main problem you have at the moment is that most dealers are limited to the number of orders they can place, and they may well be maxed out with every order spoken for. You may have to wait for supply to increase and demand to drop to get the price you want.

So why would you even think of rewarding this idiot with your business?
Bad dealerships can only remain in business if customers continue to deal with them instead of walking out the door.
Just go in there and get annoyed in a controlled way at noon on a Saturday!

This is why I hate working internet leads. I also hate people who don't recognize a good deal when it hits them on the head.
Ex. Invoice 20,000. shipping few 600 so it would = 20,600 so would under invoice mean under 20,000 or under 20,600?

Couple of questions. If you're ordering rather than taking immediate delivery from dealer stock, why is there a dealer transfer fee?
Second, would that really be a fuel filter cover, or is it actually a fuel filler cover?
I haven't checked invoice but you appear to be a couple of thousand under MSRP, which is a lot better than paying full sticker.
Oh, and good choice (IMHO) on the supplemental air bags. Few people choose to spend extra on safety.
As for the fuel filter, no, that was a typo I missed. You are correct, that it is a non-locking fuel filler (gas cap) cover, though the cap underneath it will lock.
And if you find yourself offroading more than you thought, it's easy to upgrade your tires a little.
new or used now is the serious question... cause i hear some dealers have great deals on wranglers (used)...
Full disclosure: I own a (built to my specifications) Silver '07 JK Wrangler X, 6 speed.
