I was looking for a blue Unlimited Sahara in automatic transmission.
We had bid on the Green one on E-bay that was a charitable auction for the Tony Hawk Foundation. MSRP was $36K (it was fully loaded) and it sold for $33K. After getting all of these quotes, we realize we should have tried harder to get that car since 100% would have gone to chartity and they would have shipped it to Hawaii for free.
Oh well, maybe I'll win the one on Miami Ink
So, what did you say?
BTW, now the Toyota dealers are calling and emailing about my recent inquiry into the FJ Cruiser. Saying they're ready to deal as well. But after driving it, at this point our interest is leaning toward the 4dr unlimited sahara.
It was fully loaded making the only differnces between it and a Sahara the body colored fenders and the YES seat fabric and the optional 18 rims. It has the upgraded S package rims making it the same rims as a standard sahara without the 18's. I thought that it was a fine trade off to be able to take it home that night and not have to wait. I bought it at Junction Auto. Great place to buy/Easy to work with. They tried to tell me that Employee Friends price was cut and dry, i threatened to walk and they went down. They had just received the car in the day before so it was of little cost to them - in and out with some profit. Fully detailed and full tank of gas.
I test drove two diferent ones before buying this, a sahara and and a rubicon. This one for whatever reason seems to have great power. Unlike the other ones, I would have no need to think of wanting an upgraded engine. Luck of the draw I persume. I've yet to go my first full tank and check mileage, but the computer has been managing to stay at 17.5 to 18.5 in mixed driving, with occasional test of "the power". Very satisfied.
I'm going to have to take a course in the spring to figure out how to remove the hard top and put the soft-top on. I tried looking at the manual and got really confused. I figured I shouldn't try it until it gets warmer out in case I have to drive to the dealer with the top off.
Previous models came with a video tape which, among many other things, detailed top r&r. Did your's not come with one?
Just how I feel, and yet people continue to reward dealers with that attitude by purchasing from them. Sounds like a reasonable deal for SoCal. Congratulations!
486 miles update...
- As I've learned the hard way, you can lock your car without anyone inside of the car. I didn't even know they still made cars that did this.
- havent figured out MPG so far but the computer seems to be showing around 16 to 18 with some 4wd action in there
- The key fob does not work from too far away... my friends commander is works from futher away. Anybody know if you can have the remote/key reprogrammed to fix that?
I guess the idea is that pointing the fob at the car (presumably from waist height) is not the optimal position for maximum range.
Yeah, I know.. doesn't really answer your question..

My reply to their intitial offer:
Thanks for your informative response to my consideration of the 4 door
Jeep. The cost break down was very interesting:
$26,965 MSRP
$ 999 Market Adjustment
$ 699 Black Tube Side Steps
$ 695 SuperPolyshield Protectant
$ 195 Safety Pulse Collision Avoidance System
$ 65 Locking Lugnuts
-----------------
$29,618
While I have seen these market adjustments on some vehicles I do believe
that there is more than enough profit already built into a new vehicle.
I would like to buy one of these 4 doors but there is, I suppose, just
to many people out there willing to pay way above MSRP on these 4 door
Jeeps and the dealer added accesories.
Again thanks for your assistance but I will look at other SUV's for my
purchase.
Sincerely,

They came back with second offer:
Dear “Customer,”
This is ######, I'm the Internet Sales Manager here at ######Chrysler Jeep. Thanks very much for your interest in the 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. We are the local Chrysler Five Star Certified dealership. That means that we go above and beyond to earn and keep your business, and that is why Chrysler has given us your vehicle inquiry.
Thank you for choosing the Jeep that fits your needs and wants best. I see that you are in ##### so I will do all pricing over the internet to make this easy on you. Then when you come down it's an easy process.
You inquired on Stock # #####- Bright Silver 2007 Jeep Wranlger Unlimited 4 Door 4x4
It has an MSRP as I'm sure you saw of $26,965. Dealer Installed on this Jeep are Black Tubular Side Steps with a cost of $699 as well as Safety Pulse Collision Avoidance System with a cost of $195 and SuperPolyshield Protectant with a cost of $695 and last but not least Locking Lugnuts at $65. I wanted to let you know exactly how it broke down in pricing.
Right now this Jeep is priced at $29,853 plus tax, tag and local fees. That is based on the above equipment as well as a $999 market adjustment. You know when a vehcile is brand new, hot and hard to come by often a market adjustment is added. The factory has taken a break from building the 4 doors right now so we as well as other dealers are running out.
But I realize you shop online to get a deal so I have talked to new car department manager down to $28,854 which removes the market adjustment. So I can have you this Bright Silver Jeep already equipped with Side Steps and Wheel locks for $28,854 plus tax, tags and fees.
Once again, thanks for your interest. I look forward to
Thank you for the opportunity to earn your business.

My Reply after hearing similar stories from other dealerships in this area.
--------------------------
Thank you for your additional assistance on the 4 door Jeep. Though the
generous $28k offer is considerably lower than your initial offer I must
inform you that the Jeep product is now, permanently, off my list of
SUV's to consider.
Perhaps there are other buyers out there who are much more motivated
than I to compare the 4 door Jeep to the other SUV's in its class.
Supply and demand, according to an old ECO 101 class I took many years
ago, redefines market boundaries. Incredibly supply and demand works for
and against itself.
Again thank you for your assistance.
Very Respectfully,

The vehicle is still sitting there on the dealers lot. 2 weeks now. I have had other offers but this was one that I found interesting.
I hope no one is offended and that all understand that this is just business. Alot of the time when Im trying to negotiate a deal the salesperson will ask if they had done something to offend me. I just tell them to calm down that it is only business.
Bottom line is that if you want a price on a car you can get it if you are willing to ask for it. Im still looking.
I go by the saying, "The good deal on the right car is always better than a good deal on the bad car."
Not saying that Jeep products are bad. They are real nifty. So are ALOT of other products. I had to eliminate the Jeep from my list because of the price for the product.
Im certainly not going to pay sticker for a 4 door SUV (4x4) that only has a 2k towing capacity with the gas mileage it gets. Additionally there are better bumper-to-bumper's out there.
There are at least 2 06 Rubicons there.
I have to assume that Jeep's are not moving.
Thanks for the response.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Do you know what info the dealer actually has available in their system? They claim: "The factory does not tell us anything."
The contract is for $1000 under MSRP. This is actually more than I anticipated paying, but the dealers...and I've checked...are not discounting easily or much. That said, sure I hear lots about the 4 dr demand but I also see 4 of them sitting on a dealer lot every time I pass by (Paramus, NJ, not where I bought mine, but there aleways seems to be 1 or two there too).
I have not bought a new car in 10 years b/c I can't stand the dealership selling/buting process. I've bought 5 or 6 cars in the last 10 years either used on eBay or via manufacturere CPO programs (mostly). I've walked from countless cars and salespeople that turn me off - cars are commodities not rare jewels.
Thanks for the info.
As far as ordering, if you have a VIN number, you can call Jeep's customer service line and they can give you the build schedule for the vehicle. From what I have read in various Jeep forums though, there are rumors of delays for Jeeps ordered with the MyGiG navigation and Rubicons, because of alleged supply problems with the front sway bar disconnect. When I ordered my '07 Unlimited X in October, it was exactly six weeks for delivery. Nothing but smiles since then!
Finally, from what I have read and my own experience, the best deals are on Jeeps ordered to your specifications, as opposed to one purchased off the lot.
I was wondering if I made a good choice going with the automatic. I drove both but didn't care too much for how the manual shifted. My old man has a '94 D-90 with a manual and actually wishes he had an automatic for off-roading (rock crawling, etc.). He says there's less foot work and balancing of the clutch and accelerator with an auto. (???)
Will an automatic be good for off-roading? And what about 0-60 performance? Will it be a lot slower on the highway. I have not seen 0-60 times for the '07 two door but have seen the dismal numbers for the Unlimited 4 door.
I will not be off-roading, though, until my warranty expires. At that time I will be adding ARB front and rear air lockers.
thanks,
Dizzle
4 spd automatic, Paint-redrock crystal pearlcoat, Freedom 3 piece hardtop, Supp. front side airbags, Price..$26,620, + TTL, & Dealer document fee of $388.00.
The price is just under invoice which still gives the dealer a profit of over $1000.00. If any incentives come out by delivery date, I"ll still be eligible.
The dealer is in Scottsdale, AZ. I ordered it Oct. 21, 06, expect delivery in 2 weeks.
Regards Al
As for acceleration, the auto comes with the 4.10 standard. That will give your X more off the line performance than you would have had with the 3.21 which comes with the manual on the X, (likely what your demo had) though you can get the 4.10 as an option. The 4.10 will give you better off the line acceleration, but gas mileage will suffer, and a bit more with the auto. Either way though, the 0-60 is at best 9 seconds.
Finally, a question: if you're going to add front and rear lockers, why didn't you get the Rubicon which has them standard and are covered under warranty? Suggestion: why not just get a winch and forget the lockers. The traction control and brake lock system that is standard on you X will help you out in 90% of the situtations you'll be in where a locker will help, and for the other 10%, the lack of lockers may result in your avoiding a situation where you get in over your head. A winch will always be there to help you out of trouble, where lockers may only get you in trouble. It will also win you friends off road.
I'm sure you will enjoy your X as much as I enjoy mine ('07 Unlimited X, pkg 24S, Silver, 6 sp., Freedom Top, Sirius w/ 6 disc CD/DVD, LSD, block heater, tow pkg, gas cap cover.
As far as not getting the Rubicon. There were a couple of factors: First, I got my fully loaded X at invoice ($21k plus change) and saved about $7K over a rubi with an auto. This extra money can be used later for serious upgrades like a winch, rack, rock rails, tires, wheels, and ARB air lockers which are superior to manually engaging diff locks. Second, insurance is quite a bit cheaper on my X. Third, I actually do not plan on doing much wheeling until my warranty expires, which will only happen in 3 yrs time!!
: ) : ( I probably will get the itch before then, though.
I got the auto because the Jeep will be my daily driver, I may occasionally tow something like a jet ski or two, and for the capability to crawl over obstacles off-road.
I just hope I don't get accused of not being a true "Jeepy" or "Jeepster" or whatever the lingo is amongst Jeep aficionados.
Once again, thanks
I'm not really sure what you mean. While ARB make an excellent locker they still have to be manually engaged, and when compared to the locker in the rear of the Rubicon it's the Rubicon that comes out on top. The ARB is either locked or open, while the Rubicon's rear is either locked or limited slip.
I just hope I don't get accused of not being a true "Jeepy" or "Jeepster" or whatever the lingo is amongst Jeep aficionados.
I don't know what it is either, but you won't go far wrong if you just remember the 'wave'!
Absolutely, and the consequences for not doing so are quite serious. In fact, if enough people report you for not waving you may have to return your Jeep to the dealership until you've passed a counseling class!
Does anybody think that the automatic transmission on the wrangler, mine is an unlimted 4x4 x s-pkg, has a hard time figuring out what gear to be in. For example going down a hill while not accelerating it will shift down, but abruptly and in a questionable time, and just doesn't seem very smooth, not really jerky, but not my previous 04 F-150 smooth.
