I am interested in a 16 Accord EX-L. The best quote that I got is 24820 (including destination) + TTL in the Los Angeles area. This seems like a very good deal for now but since I am not in any hurry to buy, can I expect the price to continue to drop later in the year? If so, what may be a good time to buy?
With the Civic being so hot and availability relatively low, is it plausible to buy a more expensive Accord cheaper than the Civic? For example, can you buy an Accord EX-L less than a Civic Touring?
@sda- Good point.... Invoice price w/ destination for a 2016 EXL Accord is $27,059. In a lot of states I could buy this model between $1800 to 2700 below dealers invoice. With states like MA, MD , VA, CA, getting a Top price
The Civic Touring invoices at $25,443. I would assume not many states are going below invoice price yet. There is also no incentives or rebates. Civic pricing for buyers will be more favorable in the summer months right now sales are off the charts and supply is down.
Your area is hot right now with Accord sales / pricing. @2239 below invoice and a 80 dollar doc fee makes this a excellent deal. Buying at the end of this month / waiting another month or two should net you 2500 below maybe more. Get more dealerships involved in the bidding . You will save more money .
Brian125, I spoke with the dealer that I previously bought from, and they offered me $22683 sell price. I then asked for the out the door price, and they gave me the $25,908.38 number. Md tax is 6% - $1360 Md Tags & title is about $300 The rest is document fees?
Bought my Sport for 22799 plus TTL's. It may not be the best price but only one of the only three dealers here offered me this deal and the other two's were not even interested in considering the same deal. So I pretty much knew the price is fair in my state.
Love the Sport except the speakers sound average or below for my music.
Change the speaker system the radio will sound better. I had a 2013 EXL V-6 model Accord and hated the radio. Music sounded like it was coming out of a tin can.
Hello, all. Just registered to the site today after lurking over the last few months. I am looking to purchase my first brand new car ever and am very much so in the dark on the process other than the online research I've done.
I live in San Jose, California (sales tax is 7.5%) and have pretty much settled on going for a Honda Accord EX with no Honda Sensing. Was planning on putting roughly $9,000 down and financing the rest over a period of 36 months. Haven't been able to get my credit score online yet (all of the free ones say they can and then just show me a credit report). I don't have bad credit but I definitely have a very thin file as I've never had a credit card or taken out a loan or anything. Last time I got my credit score it was years ago and I want to say it was right around 700 but it's been a long time so I can't be too sure on that. Probably won't go through with this purchase if I can't get financing under 3% APR; spoke to my bank about an auto loan today (way too high of rates, i.e. 3.99% as a best case scenario depending on credit score) and my next move is to speak with a local credit union about auto loan rates. Ideally I'd be going through with this purchase in the next few months if the price is right.
From reading through this thread it looks as though I should be aiming for a price of no more than $25,000 OTD if I am understanding all the terminology correctly.
Any advice or suggestions for going about this process? Thanks a bunch in advance and my apologies if I am posting in the wrong area for such a discussion.
Your low and high Target price in your area is $1900 to 2500 below invoice on your EX model.
Invoice w / dest = 24,136+ 835= $24,971.
At the end of this month, last few days send out emails/ calls to dealerships that for X price you will buy said model that day if they agree to your price. Call each dealerships Internet dept / Mgr. Negotiate with them 1st before going into dealerships.
OTD pricing consists of Taxes , dmv and doc fee charge of $80.
So when negotiating the terminology you use with dealers is Example : For 2k below invoice on a ex model I buy today . YES or NO then move onto the next dealership. OTD pricing you can go over once you have a agreed sale price with a dealer.
Last minute tips
Get pre approval from a credit union or bank if credit is not good. Make dealers match or beat your best rates.
Negotiate deals and the end of the month last 2 days, last day or a ending sales quarter. That's when we as buyers have the most buying leverage and can make the best deal.
Never negotiate a price with any dealer unless your prepared to buy vehicle that moment. Again Tell all your targeted dealerships meet my price I buy right now.

Good insight on the buying process. Just one question. Is it a good idea to get pre approved. Wont it just be a extra hard pull before going to the dealership.
Most credit unions , banks pre approve in a day or two.( Pen FED , Capital one etc. )
If you know you have .9% approved and dealer is higher they have to match for the sale. Of coarse using the dealers finance will help you get a lower price sometimes . I like to tell certain dealers if you cant meet my price and by financing thru you gets me my price I could do that. What's the smallest amount I could finance thru you 5k, 7500 etc . then pay off loan on the 1st billing cycle. Honda does have good rates right now.
Brian125, greatly appreciate all the advice you provide on this site!
What would be your target below invoice amount for an EX in NJ? Do you think $3000 below invoice is possible in this area?
Thanks I try to help people save few dollars from my many years of buying and negotiating new cars.
NJ is a tough market with Accord pricing . From my experience with CT, NY, NJ, PA DE, Honda dealers a 3k below invoice will not happen unless there is more incentive money other than the 1000 to 1250 cash incentive to dealers right now.
If I was buying in NY, NJ area and ready to pull the trigger by the end of the month My low / high Target price to buy would be $1900 hundred below invoice to 2200 below invoice.
I'm not saying you cant ask for more off vehicle but if you price yourself out of this area's market price most dealers will discard or just overlook your offer.
Don't forget what ever number you land on subtract $300 to 400 off that number for dealers doc fee charge.
Email / Call my below recommended dealers Internet dept/ mgrs. see what response you get back and prices .
Tell each dealer you will buy today for 2200 below invoice price for your suggested model. Wait another week before negotiating........... If you could get the 2200 below invoice you have done real well in NJ .
In NY, call New Rochelle, Friendly Honda....
In NJ, call Auto-Sport, Dch Paramus , Garden State, Madison,
Worth a call ....Joyce , DCH kay, and Clinton Honda
If you want to buy in the 2k to 3k range and are willing to travel to pick up vehicle then these states will meet your price. MA, MD, VA, CA.
Post back if you need more help with a offer or dealership.
Buying at Invoice price. minus 1250( dealer cash incentive ) minus 483(dealer -hold back) minus 300 ( dealers doc fee)
That's $2033 for starters. You could try for more $$ off the invoice price
So the big question here is can you get a dealer to discount a EX Accord in NJ / NY for this price? Is there more trunk money we don't know about helping you to score a better deal???
You will have the answer to all the above once you make a list of all your targeted dealerships and start negotiating.
last 2 days, last day is the best time to buy. Pitting one dealer against the next . The more dealerships you get involved the better you will do.
EX Invoice = ............24,136 + 835=.............. 24,971 minus ..............................................................-2200..... .............................................................................................
your high target price ...................................$22,771 plus OTD fee's... Tax, Dmv, Doc fee, $10 tire disposal fee.

So when sending these emails (or calling) should I word my offer as "for $2,500 below invoice on an EX model I buy today" as opposed to "for $22,471 on an EX model I buy today"?
And when you say up to $2,500 off invoice, is that $2,500 off invoice + destination fee or just $2,500 off the invoice?
....and thanks again for all the help, you and that link that someone provided a few pages back have been my best resources for preparing to purchase my first brand new car. As of now my plan is to wrap up my preparations over the next few weeks and strike at the end of June seeing as how that'll be both the end of the month and the end of the second sales quarter (if my estimation is correct).
You have done your home work well . End of June is even better to buy its the end of the 2nd quarter and really kicks off Honda's summer clearance.
EXample to every dealership you call or email. Direct calls works the best. One on one with each Int/ mgr lets you know if dealers are ready to sell or BS ing u.
Hi mr. Jones
I'm looking to buy a 2016 ex white Accord with no other added accessories . Invoice w destination is $24,271. I am willing to buy this vehicle from you now for 22,471. I'm willing to give you a credit card deposit till I could come down. I am also willing to finance thru Honda if it helps you meet my price.
Dealers counter off.
MR broccoli you stink.... LOL
My dealership cant do a 2200 below invoice but we are willing to sell you the ex model for 1800 below invoice.
Mr Jones if I cant get my price I will be in touch with you. by tomm and we could discuss the 1800 below scenario. Leave your contact info then call the next dealer. there are a lot more ways to word your sale
Just throwing some idea's out for you. Take what's useful into your negotiations . My style a technique works best for me and maybe not you.
Put this in your dealer emails
I'm looking to buy a 2016 white EX Accord today if we can agree on price. No other accessories added .
I have emailed called several area dealerships who ever meets my price 1st will get the sale today.
I buy today for xxx . Put this in every email and sent out to dealers you like and don't like . This will help verify area pricing. Your goal is to find that 1 or 2 dealers that needs end of the month sales quotas. Finding these dealerships helps get the best possible price.
Dealers that wont negotiate online or by emails discard them off your list move onto the next dealer. There not worth your time.
I pit dealers against each other.. I like to tell dealers Example : Joes Honda that if you don't meet my price Harry's down the block is 500 less than you I'll buy there But I need X for the sale today. Do you want the sale today? R you really going to let Joe's takes this sale from you Etc etc.......... Play the game.
I could buy any vehicle Span thru 3 or 4 states call 30 / 40 dealers and have a deal in no time and while doing it get each dealerships best price while politely telling each who don't meet me price I'll get back to you. If I call 40 dealers... 10 may not negotiate by phone 10 dealers may tell me NO come in .. 10 may counter my offer. 5 may lie to me. The others may go for the sale that moment. The sucker dealers who wont commit to my price will usually tip there hand on the last days by countering me a few dollars less... that's when I know I got them.
Piece of cake Johnnybroccoli make us proud ........................... Good luck
Johnny your pricing is going to be a lot better than the NJ buyer. When sending emails / calls give dealers the price that gets your business. what ever your target price is $2500, 2600 2700 etc. Minus that number off the invoice price that included the $835 dest. charge . Let dealer know destination charge was include so you and dealer are both on same page.
okay I have a final low price on an accord LX 2016 with sensing. Base price + destination 19,569. I have been offered an OTD price of 21,499 if I buy this wkend! is this a good price? I have been shopping around for 2wks now and this is the best price I have. btw I did not qualify for any incentives. so this is with no single incentive.
I mentioned you in my above ramble posts on buying points with @jellydoboy . Make sure you target price is higher than his..... NJ market is a lot lower than CA.

This is a excellent deal in MD. @3235 below dealers invoice minus the 300 doc fee. Buy vehicle today or as soon as your ready no reason to wait. I remember your 1st posting with prices in the $20,400 range . Good job you done real well @obiloww
States like MD , CA have the very best pricing on Accords . MA , VA are the 2 next best states in pricing.
post dealer name and buying experience when done it will help the other forum members in your area.
This is why I tell all of you guys in here . If one of these States mentioned your willing to drive to ( MA, MD, VA, CA ) your saving could be $500 to 1500 in savings.
A NY or NJ............ to MD sale is closer to the 1500 dollar savings if you find the right dealer looking to sell. For Me its all about the sale the trill and excitement of making the best deal. I drive to MD to buy
I ask everyone in this forum... Who makes $1500 / 1000 a day at work??? If you have to travel 2 or 3 hrs to buy this vehicle . Bus, train, or drive is it worth it to you??
If you need dealers in any of these area's I will post the better dealerships I have sent many buyers to for Accords, Civic's, Pilots and CRV's.
Thanks Brian125 for all the advise ...I have here a quote 1 of the 3 dealers competing each other. Accord Sports: Selling price - 20050 Destination - 835 Pro pack. - 299 Nj tax. - 1458 Doc fee. - 399 Registration- 311 Tire. - 7.50 Dream garage rebate- (-750) OTD. - $22609.50 Do I have a good price in tough NJ pricing ? Thanks
Hey Brian125 I sign myself in $750 Honda garage sales event i found in Facebook and they will give you a unique code to bring it to a dealer. They have 2 program ....$1000 Honda loyalty rebate only for Odyssey and the $750 garage sales event for all models. Thanks again for ur help.
I am interested in leasing a manual transmission 2016 Accord Sport sedan (MSRP $25,100 including destination) in souther California (LA area). The offer I got from the internet manager at a local dealership is $20,666 ($4,434 off MSRP) which seems like a good price, considering the other offers I got through car buying services are in the $23,300 range (essentially invoice). Their catch is that there is a $550 surcharge for getting a car they do not have in stock. Since manual cars are non-existent in SoCal, it's impossible to find one dealer stock. The dealer is also telling me that Honda does not take factory orders (I can wait a couple of months for a factory ordered car to come in), so I would have to pay this surcharge no matter what. Am I being told a bunch of BS to get me to pay $550? Can't I put a deposit down and order the car I want in my color and configuration without paying this stupid surcharge?
There are a ton of Honda dealers here and if I were in the market for a CVT car, it would be easier to find a great deal. The fact that nobody has a manual car in stock seems to make dealers unmotivated to do a deal.
Any insight on whether $20,666 or $21,216 are good prices for this car is appreciated. Also, I'd like to know the truth about feasibility of factory ordering. I have over 2 months to go on my current VW lease, so I can definitely wait for the car to come in. I just don't see why a dealer cannot go in the allocation system and change one of the dozens of CVT cars they order each month to a manual car.
Supply and Demand vehicles like the Manuel sport dealers know they can get that surcharge .
I would call 20 dealers in the CA area ask each one if they could order one for you without a surcharge . If all are saying the same thing then you have your questioned answered. Your best price of $20,666 or 21, 216 with surcharge looks like this . If the 21,216 price includes the 835 destination charge that puts you at $1836 below invoice and still a very good price. Cvt Accord buyers are getting close to 800 to 1k more off vehicles in your area.
What I would suggest is 2 things
1- Round up call and email 20 dealers on the 2nd to last day and last day of this month. Try to order or have them find vehicle without the surcharge. Tell each dealership you buy that day if price is met holding sale with a credit card deposit. . Once you secure your best deals on the 2nd to last day of May.. DO NOT BUY YET unless your target price is met. Wait till Tue, May 31st to give the rest of your targeted dealers time to reconsider your offer............. you may get a couple of bites
2- If you can't do better than above price w / surcharge try to get dealer to throw in 4 or 5 free oil changes, Splash guards , Door edge, all weather mats, Trunk mat etc.
If you find a dealer at the end of May that needs a few more sales numbers to hit there incentive quota you will be in business.
Try Santa Monica Honda on the 31st call the Internet mgr. directly on the phone
brian125--I think you can have a field day with this. I was at the Honda dealer having the Pilot serviced and noticed that this dealer, who in the past didn't post an addendum sticker, or if they did it was modest. No more. This was on a 16 Accord EX with Sensing. How to negotiate when presented such nonsense?
Wow . I can imagine how many new buyers are told by these dealers that the $1994 installed accessories can be had for just 1k, and on top of that great savings we here at X Honda will sell this vehicle to you Today and only today for 200 above our Invoice price . I'm sure my MGR. will be pissed at me for offering you this once and a lifetime deal. Shall I start the paperwork. Oh by the way our doc fee charge at this dealership are only 399
Looking to buy a 2016 Touring Accord or EX-L V6 with Navigation and Honda Sensing. I live in Colorado. Any thoughts on what type of pricing should be considered "good?"

Not knowing much about your area's market pricing a 1800 to 2500 hundred below your models invoice price is a good buy and what a lot of us are getting in this forum. If your dealers doc fee's are 400 dollars your agreed sales price needs to be 2200 below invoice to make that charge a wash on the bill of sale. I would send out 10 emails requesting dealers to give you there best price. ask each dealer in your dialog there doc fee charge. Post back with your findings

Found a link to this through Honda's FB page, but it brings me to a link where I need to enter an offer code. I'm confused about how to get this code or this offer, so any tips would be very helpful
Hi! I'm working with a dealership in Manhattan and got down to the below numbers for leasing a 2016 Honda Accord EX-L with no nav/sensing. 15K miles for 36 months.
Lots of great information here (looking at you Brian125).
Couple of questions, please.
What are some dealers in the Baltimore, MD, area that folks have had good luck with?
When the figures $1200-2500 below invoice are used to show a good price is that with or without the current dealer incentives? How do these incentives fit into this good price model?

minus ..............................................................-2200.....
.............................................................................................
your high target price ...................................$22,771 plus OTD fee's... Tax, Dmv, Doc fee, $10 tire disposal fee.

Good luck

States like MD , CA have the very best pricing on Accords . MA , VA are the 2 next best states in pricing.
post dealer name and buying experience when done it will help the other forum members in your area.

We discussed trading in our old Accord for 1,300 as a downpayment and adding another $400 to round it out to $1,750.
This brings us to a monthly payment of $250 with $1,750 down. All fees are taken care of (taxes, acquisition, motor vehicle, and 1st payment).
What are your thoughts on this deal? Your feedback is greatly appreciated, folks!
Couple of questions, please.
What are some dealers in the Baltimore, MD, area that folks have had good luck with?
When the figures $1200-2500 below invoice are used to show a good price is that with or without the current dealer incentives? How do these incentives fit into this good price model?
Thanks!
Thanks!
