Both look good. To my eye black looks more 'luxury sedan' and a bit more sinister. Titanium is more the 'sport sedan' look. I like driving my M45 so much, I'd probably be happy in it if was Kermit the Frog green, but I do like my black one best from outside ;)

I am in a G35X loaner. My car is in for service (oil) and I printed the headlight adjustment instructions for the service writer. He said he would pass them on to the tech. I hope they get it right. Last time I was in they changed some throtle sensor in the steering column b/c my VDC light was on. When I got it back I had a tapping on inside of the column. The harness had to be re-secured. I hope the headlight adjustmewnt does not mess up something else!

They are also fixing/replacing the speaker in the driver door.

I will let you know. Thanks for the help pete!

Now that many of us have had ample time to break in the new M45, I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has done there own 0 to 60 test on this car. The reviewers, mfg, and car mags are all over the board on this one, and I'm wondering who besides me has done there own measurement. Any feedback? Thanks.

I have had negative experience with consumer affairs. When my car was damaged in a crash and I couldn't get parts for 2 months I made numerous calls. Disregarding the issue of parts for a moment, they seemed to have plenty of low level representatives but I couldn't get a hold of any senior person. I asked on 2 occasions and was given replies by the low level rep. I think Consumer affairs can be helpful with minor stuff like towing (which is free!) but not helpful with major stuff. The communication between consumer affairs seemed POOR as I would hear different stories from one dealer and consumer affairs. For example parts have arrived according to Consumer affairs and the dealer denied it.
Some companies have stronger consumer affair divisions that really can push dealers into action. My last car was an acura TL but I didn't have any reason to contact them. My brother had a Honda Pilot and when he got Honda affairs involved his dealer bent over backwards to keep him happy.
I don't get a sense that Infiniti consumer affairs is like that.

I adjusted my headlights as per recommendation; did 3 complete revolutions of the gear counterclockwise on passenger side and 4 on drivers side. It doesn't seem to have raised the beams. Also there is some resistance from the plastic gear and cable that the metal gear mates to.
Is this normal? Are you sure that I turn the screwdriver counterclockwise to raise the beams? Any ideas?
  • pete_l_ppete_l_p Member Posts: 322
    A few questions first.

-Did you do 4 full rotations of the LARGE cogwheel, rather than the phillips head itself?
-Were you watching the head lights on the wall as you were turning the cogwheel? (to confirm no movement)
-How far away was the wall from the headlights?
-Did you actually drive at night since the adjustment? (also to confirm the lack of results)

Resistance is normal when trying to turn the large cog wheel directly, but I didn't have any resistance when turning the the gear in the hole NEXT to the large cog.

Please try printing the instructions out and reading them again slowly. Many, many folks have had success with these adjustments, so it seems likely something may have been misread. (A very common occurrence in general, and for all of us.)

    Hi,

I was wondering if you had figured out the buzzing sounds coming fron underneath the center speaker and the glove box? I have these as well and they drive me nuts. It appears I have 3 buzzing sounds, the most frequent one coming from the front passenger area (most likely somewhere on the dash); the other one seems to come from somewhere under the center speaker, maybe the plastic piece just below the navigation screen?. And finally, rarely can I hear it but a third, subdued buzzing noise comes from just in front of the driver, close to the instrument cluster...
When do you get these rattles, by the way? I have them when I go over certain potholes and plastic strip lane dividers, which is to say, all the time...

    Thanks for any input!

Be sure you have nothing loose in the cupholders and in the sunglasses holder. I find that if my phone (in the cupholder) or my glasses are positioned in a way where they can move, I get rattling. The only noise I had that was from the car was the moonroof, and they have a TSB for that.
  • boz94086boz94086 Member Posts: 12
You are right about the cupholder/sunglasses holder rattles, everytime I have something in there I get noises, for sure. But my buzzing sounds are much more trickier to locate and they absolutely drive me nuts. Especially the one that seems to come from the right passenger side (dash/vent) which happens all the time on the crappy roads I drive on here (US 101, SF Bay Area). There must be a way to fix these things, apart from cranking up the stereo!
  • pete_l_ppete_l_p Member Posts: 322
Here's a TSB (a technical service bulletin) for the glove box buzz. I'd recommend printing it out and handing it to your dealer, just in case he might have missed it.

I know it isn't much solace, but my car is 8 months old and hasn't had a single buzz, rattle, or any problem of any kind. I'm also living on the peninsula in the bay area.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

    Pete
  • boz94086boz94086 Member Posts: 12
Hi Pete, thanks for the thoughts and help! I actually knew about that TSB but it does not seem it's my problem. Even when I apply upward pressure on the box can I hear that stupid buzz sound. I tell you, the day I figure it out I open a bottle of Champagne! Well, maybe the day I get it fixed ;o)
Still regarding that TSB, I brought in my car for my first oil change 3 weeks ago without mentioning any buzzing sounds to the tech representative. Would they have worked on the TSB regardless? Do they know a car has been built before a TSB has been sent out and therefore automatically fix the problem when the car comes in for service? My worksheet did not mention any such work, though.
I saw an old post from you about Peninsula Infiniti, where you mentioned you had received excellent service. Did you buy your car there? I did. So far I've been pretty happy with their performance too.
  • tayl0rdtayl0rd Member Posts: 1,926
    What were your results?
  • pete_l_ppete_l_p Member Posts: 322
Yes I bought the car at Peninsula, and I've enjoyed them all around.

The TSB's are typically intended to handle problems raised by customers. They usually say things like:

"If the customer complains of XYZ do ABC"

So if you didn't mention any buzz in the glove compartment, I don't think they'd have been likely to have applied the TSB.

  • boz94086boz94086 Member Posts: 12
That makes sense. I had not complained about anything because I was too afraid they would mess up the car even more (more rattles, scratched finish, etc.) by trying to fix it. I still think it would be a bad idea to ask them to do something about it. It will take time to locate these noises but I will track them down... There's no hurry, the car is still driveable :o)
By any chance, was your salesman at Peninsula Infiniti Kirk Bowman?
  • pete_l_ppete_l_p Member Posts: 322
My salesman at peninsula was Sammy. A great guy who has an unusually deep understanding of the technology, and independent of that, has helped me out in several ways since my purchase. BTW, being a tech guy, I've really never been impressed with a salesman's tech knowledge before.

On the buzz/rattle issue. I want to strongly encourage you to isolate those noises as much as possible and get the dealer to handle them.

It would help to isolate them if you could get someone to drive while you move your head around the car, pressing and prodding at the source of each sound. Once you get a good reproduce case for each issue you should ask to take a test drive with the service tech (or manager) to point them out. My advice is to be really, really persistent and get it completely handled. The fact that infiniti has technical service bulletins on noises indicates that they care about it as much as you do.

Once you get this resolved, you'll totally enjoy the car, as you deserve.

I agree that providing feedback will improve the breed. The Asian brands are anal about fixing things like this, which I consider a very good thing.

While the renewed M has received much praise, it's becoming apparent that there is still (as always) room for improvement.

I've only bought one first-year car (it wasn't an M).

    I will never buy another.

  • pete_l_ppete_l_p Member Posts: 322
Yes, there's always room for improvement, but I disagree with the implication.

My take is that the vast majority of M's have been absolutely trouble free. I've had two infinitis and they've both been perfect cars. A message board is the first place one goes when they have a problem, so you really can't draw any conclusions from the few posts on that topic.

If you want to see a lot service problems (and I mean more than a buzz or rattle) get a mercedes or BMW. I have, and the problems are non-stop.

  • boz94086boz94086 Member Posts: 12
Pete, as soon as my wife agrees to drive the car while I'm in it, I'll do just that. It's really the only way to figure out the location of these noises.
Now taking a step back, these things are minor. Very minor. They are annoying, but there could be bigger problems (knock on wood). Sometimes I wonder if I'm not actually looking for trouble when there is none. It looks like I spend more time listening to these buzzing sounds than actually enjoying the car. Ridiculous... But when everything is quiet I'll be happy nonetheless :o)

I am curious what thoughts Pete and others have.....
I have been considering a M45. One of my concerns is that this is the first model year. I once bought a new model, first year, and swore I would never do it again. Of course that was a Ford........

Do y'all think most of the glitches have been worked out or is there benefit in waiting for the 2007 model. I tend to doubt that Infiniti is going to make big changes for the next model(such as adding a higher gear), but of course this is an uniformed guess.

So to cut to the chase, do I consider buying an Infiniti now or later?
  • pete_l_ppete_l_p Member Posts: 322
My car has been perfect, and believe that most folks have had the same experience, but a few posts have spoken of rattles here or there. Your risk of getting any noises might be reduced if you wait.

I wouldn't wait, but here are some things that might be coming on the 2007, and you might feel the wait is worth it.

    1) Nav Traffic integrated with the Nav system (Requires XM radio. This is just about certain.)
    2) iPod integration, more than just an aux input. (It's been announced by infiniti. They haven't specified which models, or when, but I think its very likely on the next M)
    3) Full adjustments for the front passenger seat. (possible since many folks have requested it, and it would require no additional engineering since they have it on the right side in japan. But no real word on it.)

Hi Pete, thanks for the thoughts and help! I actually knew about that TSB but it does not seem it's my problem. Even when I apply upward pressure on the box can I hear that stupid buzz sound

I'm going to ask an obvious question - Is anything being stored in the glove box? If so, remove it and check for the buzz sound. If there is nothing in the glove box, try temporarily placing something with some weight in the closed glove box and see if you still get the buzz. :shades:
  • boz94086boz94086 Member Posts: 12
Thanks for the suggestoin zidecar. There's nothing but insurance/registration pawerwork in there... But you are perfectly right about the weight thing, I'll try that. I actually think the buzz sound does not come from the box, but there's definitely a slight rattle coming from inside (or somewhere in the back) of the glove box. I can only hear it at low speeds on rough surfaces when the radio's not on though...

Anybody out there install a stealth (hidden) radar detector?
Cost, type and thoughts on interference with other electronics on the M would be appreciated.
Just got a 63 in a 35 coming off the freeway in what appeared to be a sting. ouch!
  • indemandindemand Member Posts: 14
I have a Escort passport SR7 and the installed cost was $800. Because the M has active laser in the front there is often interference and much annoyance. The factory states that laser detectors are not suitable for this car. However I find that if I do not follow to close that there is less laser falsing.

I recommend getting the M45 now. I have owned three first year models by Infiniti and have been pleased and had flawless products in all cases. I had a 2002 Q45, which was a big redsign year. I still have a G35 coupe I took delivery on Halloween 2002, right after it came out. I have a new M45 delivered to me in mid March.

All have been flawless cars which I have been pleased with very much. Ive had 8 Infinities, mostly Q45s' and have never had a problem with any of them.

Happy to answer any other questions you might have.
  • worldskiworldski Member Posts: 14
I have owned the M35 with Journey and Tech and have had no problems. I can tell u this. A new car is not always as it seems as some parts are borrowed and improved. The 3.5 litre engine is the same one used on the G35, FX35, Nissan Maxima, Altima and 350Z while the 4.5 litre engine has been used in the Q45 and FX45 of course with adjustments. Then the Infiniti M35 has been available for 6months in Japan as the Nissan Fuga. Bottom line is that it is a very good car and a lot of the 'first year kinks' have been tested in large samples (sales of other cars). The technology components are pretty new inside such as blue tooth and audio system. The navigation system has also been around for some time evolved from the Xanadu Corporation specifically for Nissan. The car is pretty slick and the features are really improvements on existing architecture. The car I expect might get a little more standard features in a couple of years at no extra cost or more gizmos but believe me it is a very good car as is and the sales are beating expectations. You be the judge.
Disclaimer: I do not work for Nissan or Infiniti neither is this a paid endorsement. I speak for myself.

Another perspective from an M35 owner since July: I would hold off until the 2007 model to see if they have had a chance to fix some issues.

I have owned 3 other Infiniti's, all of which have been flawless - until this one. I have had my car in 8 times to fix a number of issues from broken seatbelt adjusters at delivery to a number of annoying rattles and creaks - notably in the moonroof, which has still not been fixed despite an Infiniti "factory technician" looking at this.

I know better than to buy a first model year car, even from Infiniti. Good luck with your decision. S

I am about to buy an M35X. Does any one know if new improvements such as day lights, automatic locks, improved headlights are forthcoming? When does the 2007 model year begin? Finally any suggestions re dealers in Bergen County,NJ.

    Thanks,

I bought a 1992 Acura Vigor in Sept. 1991. This was 1st year it went on sale. I still have it, 140,000 miles later. Its been very reliabe and I am keeping it as a "second car." Last July I bought an M45 Sport. No problems with my M. I guess I have been lucky.

Thanks indemand. I've still got my Valentine(sun-visor) I had on my M-5 but
just wanted it more integrated within the car and thus stealth.
Dang the annoyance may be a prob for me, I enjoy that cruise laser &
    it is growing on me.

Gohorns1, I've got 5000 on my m45 and love the car and except for
some garble in my blue tooth on other end I have not had a lick of complaints.
Good luck and Hook em' Horns. Btw are you in Texas. I am in Houston
and bought mine from West Houston Infinity. Appear to be good folks.
  • gohorns1gohorns1 Member Posts: 53
    I appreciate everyone's input regardign the M45.
m45horn: Yep, I am in Austin, TX. I guess not too hard to figure given my username. I am glad to hear that West Houston treated you well. In Austin there is, of course, only one Infiniti dealer. I am not at that point yet, but when/if I get down to the nitty gritty of determining cost, I would certainly consider going to Houston/Dallas/San Antonio if I could get a better deal. It wouldn't be too bad "having" to drive back home!

I noted a few posts ago that you mentioned you got a ticket exiting off the freeway. That happened to me in Bellaire, exiting off 610. This was probably 13-14 years ago. The cop seemed like he was 10 and had a Clint Eastwood complex. As you know, no point fighting a Bellaire ticket. I feel your pain.

I could really use some input. After weeks of trying to decide between the Audi 6 and the M35x I finally settled on the M. My last two cars have been I-30's, so I'm sold on Infinity quality and features. My last dilemma is color combinations. I really like the grey umbria exterior and I really like the bourbon interior. I have seen both, but not on the same car. Infinity offers that combo, but I won't buy/order one until I can see it in person. Does anyone have that combo or seen it personally? I don't want a black interior - way too dark and depressing to me - so if I get the umbria I guess I would have to get the "wheat" interior, assuming the bourbon doesn't go well with the umbria. I considered the black/bourbon combo but I think black is a challenge to keep looking good. Never have I had this much trouble deciding on color. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated...........
  • ndisguysndisguys Member Posts: 5
As a sales rep.,I've seen them both. Umbria/wheat is the sharpest combo. If you like the bourbon interior, then Black is the one color it really has great eye appeal on.
My personal favorite is the Umbria/wheat though.

I faced the same selection dilemma as you and picked the M35x over the A6. I haven't regretted it.

Color combinations are a matter of personal taste - no right or wrong here. I also have a preference for lighter colored interiors. My favorite had been the Stone, but that required the Sport package and I wanted AWD. Initially, I considered the Burbon interior, but felt the color was not a good match to the rosewood trim. This left the wheat interior, which I have. I like it but it does require periodic cleaning, particularly the seat, door handle and steering wheel to keep it from looking dingy.

As for external color, my first choice would have been umbria gray. It is similar to Toyota/Lexus's "sage" color which is what I had on the car the M was replacing. The dealer had an Umbria/wheat car on the lot. I would have purchased it but enter the wife who said I shouldn't buy 2 cars in succession with the same color! ;). To make a long story short, I opted for a diamond graphite exterior to go with the wheat interior. This is not a common color combination. IMHO, it gives the car a different but tasteful appearance, . :D

For those hit by this past week's blizzard, how did those with a M35x do? I had to drive from northern nj (~12 inches of snow) to central jersey (~8 inches of snow) sunday late afternoon. Must of seen 5 accidents along the way.
My overall comparison is my prior car a 2002 TL S edition which wasn't good with snow or ice and had a habit of fishtailing. I was really glad to have AWD and kept the SNOW button pushed (not sure if it did much but it had a placebo effect for me) Occasional loss of grip but only when I was forced to switch lanes from a plowed one to a unplowed one but no loss of control.
It wasn't a great time to drive in general but I figured by that time (~4 pm EST) the crews had time to clear off some snow/ ice and it was light enough for good visibility. Some highlights along the way, a BMW 7 series that was trying vainly to get up a ramp up to the Garden State Parkway and causing a traffic jam as many cars tried to move out of the way of the fishtailing bmw and a audi that was pointed southbound in the northbound lane with its front caved in. (the driver seemed ok). (Not necessarily a reflection of these cars or their drivers) The weather was bad and of course lots of the SUV drivers were going at 70 MPH even though officially drivers were discouraged from driving and on the Turnpike the speed limit was temporarily reduced to 35 mph. Maybe it is true about NJ drivers!

I leased my M45 Sport with tech, journey, aero and wood from Ramsey Infiniti. $1K over invoice with base IFS money factor and residual. I was very happy with my experience there.

Note that I first spoke with a conventional salesperson there in the summer of 2005 and he was not realistic or flexible about price. So a few months later, I contacted one of their internet salespeople and it was a whole new ballgame. She (my internet salesperson) was very flexible and easy to deal with.

Had my M35X out in the snow on Long Island before the plows came through. We got arount 8-10 inches. If you drive with respect, the car is perfectly well mannered, not even a hint of the VDC or Slip light. Once I got comfortable and started pushing, the VDC abd slip lights do engage but nothing an average very dramatic. The car is very confidence building. The ABS worked like a charm, commiing in and out as required. I am running the goodyear stock tires and I think I will pass on the snows this winter. perhaps next winter when they are a little mmore worn out, I will need extra traction.
  • dubbdubb Member Posts: 20
AWD on my M35 was fantastic in the snow. (I was in the storms epicenter = NYC).

But, the stock Goodyear tires sucked. Waiting till the Goodyears wear out before (I can't wait) switching though.

Any recommendations from M35x owners between the Avons and Pirellis ? Others ?

I am considering purchasing a base M35 model but have concerns over the continued price increases with premium gas. This car does only except premium gas, correct? What is the typical gas mileage I can expect - 18MPG local?

Kai, I have 23, 000 on my Avons. The only problem seems to be road noise on some surfaces. I don't know if that is due to the Avons or the car. Otherwise I really think the Avons were smoother that the Goodyears. I don't know about the Pirellis. I may give them a try next time. Peace! Hawk

35 runs fine on regular. Yes, about 18 local.

I have 5K miles on my M35x Have been using regular after the first several hundred miles. In local driving with no "jack rabbit" starts and max speed of 40 MPH, I have been averaging ~17+ MPG(90% of those 5K miles have been local). It is still improving. If you are looking at the non-AWD version, you should be able to average at least 1 mpg more, so you expectation is reasonable.
  • james27james27 Member Posts: 433
My M35x only has about 4K on it, but I've been getting around 20 in general driving. I've found that while it doesn't complain at all on regular, I DO notice a difference at freeway ramp merging with regular vs premium - around here during rush hour, they're going 75-80, and it just gets there with less drama with the premium. I'm going to play with the middile grade after I get a little more on it with this grade to see it the same difference exists.

Any feedback out there on the "care and feeding" of Infinity's chrome wheels. I like the stock wheels and then I saw the chrome option on an M35x in the showroom. Looked pretty neat - but I'm concerned about upkeep, wear&tear, etc. I'm not real concerned about the 1K upgrade, as long as they hold up and don't require an extraordinary amount of care. Any experience out there?
  • howardk111howardk111 Member Posts: 17
How do you do it? I have an M35 (real wheel drive only) with approximately 1,700 miles on it and I'm only getting around 15 mpg with the car using premium gas only. On the last tankful, I'm only at 14.3. My first oil change is scheduled for next week and I plan to ask what, if anything, I can do to improve the mileage.
  • james27james27 Member Posts: 433
It's not because I go in the slow lane, I'm often in the left lane and not creating a moving roadblock, either. It is fun to use the gas pedal, but just some common sense stuff can make a big difference. Way back when I learned to drive, the instructor set a glass milk bottle on the floor. Every time you knocked it over, you lost 5-points for the day. You'd be surprised how quickly you can accellerate, stop, and turn if you learn to do it smoothly. Treat the pedal as if there is an egg under it - no sudden movements. On the highway, drive by looking ahead at least a 1/4 mile. If the traffic is heavy ahead of you, why rush up to the back end of the pack and have to put your brakes on. Ooze up there while looking for a break so you don't have to slow down or accellerate. It makes the ride much more pleasant for passengers, too. If you've ever been in a chauffered car with a good driver, it is surprising how quickly they go, but you don't notice it. I also let the car just start to move on its own after letting off the brake after the light changes, then smoothly add gas to accellerate away. Don't do panic stops at the lights...you don't have to crawl there, but if everyone is stopped in front of you, there is no reason to get there and wait at the light. I usually get twice the brake life than 'average' too. Play boy racer when the conditions permit and you can afford it!

I've put 8000 miles on my M35x. I get between 15.5-17.5. I have NEVER been so lucky as to get 18. I drive lightly and 50/50 city/hwy traffic. It is a disappointment to me as I was hoping for 18, too. It's one of the lesser reasons I'm trading it in next month.
