I have used a leather cleaner/conditioner product before on my leased VW Passat, and gave it a shot on my purcahsed 2005 TL and it worked great.

The product is a leather cleaner/conditioner called Meguiar's Gold Class Cleaner/Conditioner Foam. Meguiar's makes good products in general, and this foam worked great on my 6 month old TL.

The foam was especially helpful because, with the perforated leather, it was very easy to work in to the perforated seats. I have not had perforated seats before, but can imagine a lotion type product being difficult to work with as it might clog up the holes and be difficult to work in without getting dried product in the holes.

The foam is also nice because you can be very precise with it, not getting it on trim.

My seats were also showing early signs of a little wrinkling/bunching at the front edge of the driver's seat bottom (as appears to be typical of the TL, even though I have the newer 3 section seat bottom), and this product helped to tighten this up and it looks like new.

I noticed the 100% terry towels had a little bit of dirt from the driver's seat only (I do not carry too many passengers) and the product appears to have cleaned and conditioned the seats very nicely.

I did all seats and backs/headrests, front and back, just for consistency, even though I am pretty sure only the seating surfaces (fronts of all seats only, hence why manufacturers do not say leather seats, but leather seating surfaces, typically) are leather, a common cost cutting measure for recent cars (I did note the MB offers full leather seating packages for extra $$$ on some of their higher end models, so I guess some manufacturers are now getting extra profit off full leather.) Doing all surfaces led to a consistent very slight gloss from the product. I do not like glossy surfaces, prefer matte, but this gloss is very slight and tends to wear off fairly quickly with this foam product, per my experience with the VW.

In all, this product worked great, particularly with perforated seats.

Good suggestion on the foam. I bought a brand new TL last week and used Meguiar's Gold Class paste for leather interior . It clogged a lot of holes. Next time i will get the foam..

BTW what did u use for the dash and plastic. I used Armor all. Looks shiny .. Not usre i like that look

Alas i got my first scratch( Only a week old car) . It is on the rear bumper. My garge door closed on it. Is there a way to get rid of the scratch. The paint is there but there are small ridges where the door hit the bumper. I used Nu Finish but it didn't work. Should i use touch up paint or use wax ..

    Any advise

I purchased a 2006 Acura TL March 31, 2006. I love the car but it rattles. I took the car back to the dealer 4 days after delivery. It took the dealer 3 times to fix the ratter under the dash on the driver side. Now there is a rattel somewhere in the roof on the passenger side. I took it in. I was told that there were 2 clips either broken or missing. Never got the correct answer from the service rep.
I don't know what was really done. Car still rattels. I called Acura and really was NOT satisfied with their response. This car has less than 500 miles on it. I told my salesman that I wanted a new car. 5 minutes later the head of the service dept. called me & told me that "we won't be going there" that they will fix the rattels. I am dissapointed with the noise. The car has been back 4 times in two weeks. The dealership has never offered any complimentery service for the trouble.
Poor business. Sell a defective car, expect the owner to accept it.

I'd hate to say it, but even if they gave you a new car (and they won't), there's a good chance it'll rattle too. That's been a common complaint against the TL. You'll also have to look forward to random and misc squeaks and creaks in the future as the car ages.

You are right- My 2003 TLS creaks like an old lady's rocking chair.I love the car but I just can't stand those annoying creaks and squeaks.I have two more car payments and the Tilte will be released. The "FOR SALE" sign will be posted in the window as soon as that tilte is mailed to me.I will probably wait for the next generation TL or just get the GS350 when it is released next Spring.

"...probably wait for the next generation TL or just get the GS350 when it is released next Spring."

What would you do for wheels in the meantime?

My Good Year Tire Store attempted to mount two different 2" Receiver Hitches on my 2005 Acura MDX Touring MDL and they would not fit. I ordered a Valley Brand from etrailer.com and Good Year Store said the first one they tried to fit was the same Valley. I called etrailer and they say it will work. My Good Year Store is checking out the info but I have not heard back from them yet. What's Up Folks? I read earlier on this site Draw-Tite was going to make one to fit within few months. Someone tell me what brand 2" Receiver Hitch will fit my 2005 MDX Touring mdl.? I know I could spend $1,000+ for one with oil cooler. All I want if to mount a receiver cargo carrier which I already purchased. :confuse:
  • landlubberlandlubber Member Posts: 12
You will get more responses on the MDX board than on a TL board.

    I have a 1994 Toyota Camry and a 2004 Honda Accord.

My wife uses the Camry as a commuter car to work, right now the accord is parked up in the garage and used only on weekends.

Since I only drive to train station (approx 2 miles), I will use the Accord when the Acura gets sold.

I just installed an aftermarket daytime running light module. It makes the fog lights on my 04 TL come on at 75% intensity whenever the car in on. My headlights, parking lights, and fog lights still function normally.

FYI - I let my free 90 day XM trial period expire and finally got a re-up offer of $4.95/mo for 3 months, and then $9.95/mo for a year. I took it. I missed XM big time waiting for the better deal offer to hit my mailbox. So much better than fumbling with CDs.

    To Vin3:

My case never went to court. My car had many defects. Everything from driveline vibration (5th GEAR), faded dash, falling headliner, rattles and on and on...

Acura was not helpful and called the driveline vibration a characteristic of the car!

Even with all these problems, the lemon law is really more corporate friendly than consumer friendly. In order to get a new car, your defective car has to be absolutely beyond horrible.

My lawyer advised me to settle out of court and I did...

If I had to do it over, I would just trade the defective acura car for another.

What I gained in money I lost on deprecation. Even, if you win in court, Acura will appeal the decision and then you have to wait another year for a court date.

My car was one of the first off the assembly line…I’ll never buy another brand new model. I thought it was okay, because I was buying an Acura but in reality Acura is no better than GM…it just has a better image.
  • tedescm1tedescm1 Member Posts: 309
    Yes...

My 04 tl always had a few rattles but now that it's almost three years old it is rattling all the time.

I took the car back to three different dealers in an attempt to rid the car of rattles but to no avail.

I think the rattles maybe due to the hard suspension and 17 inch tires...just a thought.
If you go to court, you will not get a new car...believe it

The lemon law is only really effective for cars that have extremely rare and very serious problems. GM is an exception, they are more willing than most to deal with a defect car.

Acura’s policy is one of “we don’t build lemons”

    ....they don’t fix them either

On the positive.....at least my TL starts every morning ...
  • ontopontop Member Posts: 279
That's amazing. In spite of all the problems you have, you haven't just traded in the damn thing and bought something else. Doesn't seem that its that big of a deal then to me.
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
The reason I think, is that, despite its flaws, the TL simply looks too darn good!
  • petomlinpetomlin Member Posts: 103
Well, it's a big deal because, tedescm1 probably paid 30K for his TL and it rattles like a cheap piece of junk. That's amazing and unacceptable to some folks. It's making me think long and hard about my next purchase. I certainly don't want to spend 31K on a TL to have it rattle the entire time I own it.
  • tedescm1tedescm1 Member Posts: 309
I can't afford to trade my car in until it's paid for.

The most frustration part of the whole story is that the selling dealer told me I was the only person complaining about the rattles and the harmonic front-end vibration.

Anyway…when it's paid for, it will be gone... very frustrating
  • petomlinpetomlin Member Posts: 103
    tedescm1

What did/do the dealers tell you about the rattles? They can't possibly say: "...this is normal". Aren't they humiliated at their own incompetence for not being able to fix your car? What a travesty. I feel for you. Acura should be ashamed.
  • tedescm1tedescm1 Member Posts: 309
On several occasions, they told me that they stuffed the dashboard with insulation to stop the rattles…but it really never seemed to help. The creaks are almost impossible to find.

One mechanic told me that in taking the dash apart to fix the rattles he would be creating more rattles…. i think he was right. When my dash faded I had them put in a new dash and now that rattles all the time.

From reading these posts the TL is prone to rattles. As discussed, it must be due to the stiff suspension and low tires.

I love the way the car handles and drives but all the little problems and the one big vibration problem have ruined my experience.

When it’s paid for I will buy something else…..not an Acura!
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,769
?? Why do you have to wait until its paid for??

If it bothers you that much, just get out of it now. A car is a depreciating assett. Its not becoming worth more as time passes and you make payments. You might as well make payments on something you will be happier with.

Yeah, with all due respect, I was kinda wondering about that too. Are you upside down on your loan?
  • ggesqggesq Member Posts: 701
    petomlin,

Remember, you are in a "Problems & Solutions" section of the forum. As a result, you will read and hear about all the problems CERTAIN owners are experiencing, not ALL. Although unfortunate to some TL owners experiencing these types of problems, it is not representative of all the TL's out on the road.
If I had rattles in my TL, it would drive me nuts! The original Michelins on my TL definately "flat spot" which cause a vibration, but goes away after driving a minute or two( not the cars fault it vibrates). I don't have any issues and am going on 15k trouble-free miles. Cars are not perfect, and there will be some problems with any vehicle made by any manufacturer. That is an unfortunate fact of life.
In regards to your purchasing decision, it might be prudent for you to go drive a used TL and see what it drives like i.e. rattles, vibrations, faded dash...blah, blah, blah rather than basing your decision on what you read in a "problems & solutions board" :P
  • goodegggoodegg Member Posts: 905

When I hit the brakes and get to about 35mph the steering wheel shakes...I have had the rotors turned and it still shakes....any ideas?
  • petomlinpetomlin Member Posts: 103
Just saw your post. thanks for the thoughtful reply. :)

The Ironic thing is: I own an '01 TL. It has been a pleasure. I have 109k miles on it. ZERO rattles! I had to have the transmission replaced at 103K miles, which Acura replaced under warranty. But, that's about the only problem I've had with it. I can only say good things about Acura with regard to how I've been treated.

I just know myself too well- if I buy a car the rattles, no matter how much it costs, I will go insane. I just can't tolerate abnormalities with the interior of a car. I know I'm not alone.

Having said all this - I'll be test driving an 06 TL this week to answer some questions I have, before i decide what the next car will be.

ggesq - what year is your TL? :) When did the dash boards begin fading? Has that been remedied?
  • ggesqggesq Member Posts: 701
My TL is a 05. To be honest, the dash has been a little faded since the day I saw it come off of the delivery truck. However, it was soon fixed by using Lexol Vinyl Cleaner & Protectant. I have used Lexol twice now in the 10 months I have owned it. I would have to say that is two times more than what I would have liked to use it but if a dash that needs protectant every once in a while is my main problem with TL thus far, I think I can get over it ;)
Good luck with your next puchase and let us know how everything works out.
  • jimmy81jimmy81 Member Posts: 170
I don't get the dash fading thing being discussed here. My 06's dash looks fine. Do people want their dash to look glossy and slick/wet? That Armorall look? Not me. My car is 5 months old. I put a light coating of some kind of Turtle Wax vinyl/plastic protector product on it a couple weeks ago. It looks fine. Non-slick looking. Works for me.
  • ggesqggesq Member Posts: 701
My dash actually had patches of white on it. The dash's color was not uniform in nature. I think that is what is being discussed here; at least for me, that was the case.
I definately do not like that glossy, greasy, wet look. Lexol is probably similar to Turtle Wax in that it does not cause a greasy look IMO.
Good to hear your TL DOES NOT have the faded dash issue. Rather, you put protectant on it to enhance its longevity, appearance... and not hide blotches of white fading.
    Happy Motoring ;)

My O6 TL had faded dah when it bought it. I used Armor all and didn't get the shine .. will apply a second coat this weekend. Now the dash looks uniform gray. Is it supposed to be black. I have black car with black interior
  • petomlinpetomlin Member Posts: 103
Did you not notice the dash before you bought it? Or is this a recent development?

    Thanks
  • upstatedocupstatedoc Member Posts: 710
See post 3078, works great, only two coats applied in the last 8 months. Non-shiney. I think the oxidation is worse in summer.
  • animalsrushanimalsrush Member Posts: 62
I noticed it when i went home. The car was on dealer lot only for a week.. I complained about that when Acura called in for the after purchase survey

However after the first application it has turned dark gray.. So ai mhoping second application will restore its natural color

I drove two 06 TLs today. I noticed vibration in the steering wheel on both of them...in fact...I asked the salesman to hold the wheel while I drove and he admitted he could feel it. I had hoped this problem had been resolved since I drove the new 04 a couple of years ago...I guess not. Too bad, its a very nice car other than that.
  • bella_tlbella_tl Member Posts: 3
i am also wanting to know what interior products should be used. my 03 TL (as the previous models before 04) had very plush full leather seats. i used to use meguiars leather wipes and they worked quite well. the conditioner soaked in and the interior wasn't greasy. i used those wipes on one seat of my ebony interior of my 06 (which is more grey than black) and it seemed to change color...looked more black and shiny than grey. what do you use for the dash? the material of the dash and most of the interior is ?unusal, in that i don't know if a conditioner type product will leave it looking crappy. especially after reading some of these comments about faded dashes and what not..
  • bella_tlbella_tl Member Posts: 3
thanks for some positive comments after all this acura bashing. after owning 2 hondas (still driving 95 accord w/ 193000 miles and no rattles) i bought a certified 03 TL only because i couldn't imagine paying that much for the new TL and the fact that i would never buy the brand new model of any car. i just bought an 06 with 6000 (dealer demonstrator miles) on it. there ARE NO RATTLES, VIBRATION or wierd (non-acura) type problems. all these comlaints are worrying me. also, mine has michellin tires (same brand that gave me nearly 65000 miles on that accord) what's up with all these complaints? are the bridgestone tire comlplaints from the 18 high performance package? i read somewhere that the TL frame/suspension isn't really suited to handle those 18s....
  • animalsrushanimalsrush Member Posts: 62
I had my 06 Tl for three weeks now since last week i noticed there is a distinctive rattle in my right front door. It olny happens in the lower gears and vanishes when speeds are above 50 MPH. I love this car but this is getting to be a bit annoying. Taking it to the dealer next week and see if he can fix .. Other than that car is very good and very posh..
  • animalsrushanimalsrush Member Posts: 62
Has anybody noticed that the trunk space where spare tire is not finished. I see the base paint coat ( not balck which my car color is). Not that it bothers me but my Hnoda civic had that section painted black and finished.

    Just curious

After 35 pages of detailed documentation ad nauseum, I solved MY problems by trading my TL for a Chevy Duramax Diesel. At least it is supposed to ride rough and make noise!
  • tedescm1tedescm1 Member Posts: 309
    Thanks for the laugh...

I also have a troublesome 04 tl and look forward to trading it in the fall. :lemon:
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
Also for a Duramax Diesel? :P
  • tedescm1tedescm1 Member Posts: 309
    no...not a duramax!

I'm thinking of going back to a toyota. Either the Avalon or the new Camry.

Gas prices are becoming a factor!

    :)
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
"Gas prices are becoming a factor!"

You're telling me! Even worse in Canada. We'll up to about $4.30 CAD per US gallon!:cry: . I don't know how people are still buying SUVs. Even a compact one like the X3 is a gas hog. The TL is a bit of a gas guzzler too for urban driving.
  • meateatermeateater Member Posts: 123
I get 32 mpg highway in my TL, even with frequent bursts to 95-100 to pass and separate.
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
So do I. But different story for city driving though.
  • gotribegotribe Member Posts: 101
Just got my new TL 6speed and pretty much love it. I'd read that the new limited slip diff reduced torque steer by quite a bit but I'm finding that it still has a considerable amount. Accelerating on anything but the smoothest surfaces tugs the wheel pretty well, and accelerating hard with the wheels turned can create violent torque steer. Anyone else noticing this?
  • bodble2bodble2 Member Posts: 4,514
"..and accelerating hard with the wheels turned can create violent torque steer."

Yup, in this situation, even the automatic can have significant torque steer. And if also the road surface happens to be uneven....hang on tight to the steering wheel!!
