Nissan Titan vs. Dodge Ram Hemi

I am currently pro Dodge mainly because I have had 2 very reliable trucks! When there is a problem I know the dealership I bought from is going to do everything in their power to make me happy as a customer. I feel as long as I continue to have such a superior dealership supporting my vehicle of choice I will continue rewarding them with my business.
I previously owned several Nissan vehicles. My last truck was an 82 King Cab 4x4. This truck broke down twice leaving me stranded, once on a cross country trip.
My next truck was an 87 Ford F150 XLT 6cyl 4 speed manual. It was a good truck however the gas mileage was horrible, it averaged 11.5 mpg in the winter and 13 in the summer.
In 93 I traded for a Dodge Dakota club cab with a v8 and an automatic trans. My gas mileage went up 2 to 3 mpg even though I had a less efficient engine and transmission. The only problem with this truck other than routine stuff was warped brake rotors which was cured with a quality set of aftermarket rotors. The brake rotors were recommended by the dealer and replaced under warranty too!
I traded it in on a 2000 Dakota Quad cab I special ordered in 2000. It was flawless and I intended in keeping it at least 7 years until I had a motorcycle accident and mangled my left leg. No more manual transmissions were in my future so I traded for my current 2003 Dodge Ram Quad cab 5.7 V8 and 5 spd auto.
So far it has continued the trend of my 2 previous Dodge trucks and has required only routine maintenance as required to keep the warranty in force.
Would I buy a Nissan Titan?
Regardless of the hard time I give bowke28, probably if I became dissatisfied with my Dodge Ram and my dealer and was considering trying another brand.
UNFORTUNATELY my dealership experience with my Nissan was not as rewarding.
We bought a new Altima SE in 96 from our local dealer. The car was probably one of the best we have owned over the years other than a Toyota Crown we owned when we lived in Tokyo for 3 years.
The dealership experience was not up to the standard set by the Altima. Every time I took it in for service they tried to sell me bull s**t packages of suggested maintenance for many hundreds of dollars over the cost of the required maintenance. I tolerated them because my wife loved the car. Then she saw pictures of the new Altima and really thought she would like to have one of the new V6 SEs.
I spoke to the sales manager about ordering a base Altima SE. All we wanted was the base car with the 3.5 v6 and a 5 speed. Well at that time I guess there was an allocation on the Atimas and he would not give up getting a loaded Altima (more profit) to get a stripped one for me.
We ended up going to my Dodge dealer and ordering a loaded 2002 Neon R/T right down to getting leather and side air bags. Besides being thousands less the Neon is every bit as reliable and fun to drive as our 96 Altima without the greedy dealer experience.
I guess what I am saying it doesn't really matter how good the vehicle is if you don't have a quality dealership to provide the support you expect.

I tend to agree with the post above regarding nissan service reputation. I had excellent luck with the infiniti dealership, but the local nissan dealer has a mile long list of complaints with both sales and service with the better business bureau. They actually had a listing in the paper a while back listing the number of complaints with the various dealers in the county. Nissan was a big loser.
I went to the auto show in Chicago on monday. Quite frankly, I thought the interior looked a little cheap. My first hands on experience (subjective) was that statistaclly the truck is fine, but I think that there will be a lot of touching up for Nissan to do in the next few years.
Argue all you want and drive what you must. Vote like your dad and his dad and his and so on. One day you'll discover the world is round.
Actually, its more like "see, I'm so much smarter and intelligent and neater and cool and hip and cosmopolitan than you (insert name of truck) guys."
That was a 'if you don't think like me...' statement. The blatant arrogance and smugness aside, there were some things my father WAS correct about.
Wasn't your's?
Would be interesting to see how few owners of Ford, Chevy, or Dodge pickups traded in for a Nissan Titan.
Same holds true for the "high demand" cars. I remember when the mazda miata came out. Dealers were selling above MSRP. People were selling them used for more than MSRP because buyers had actually paid a greater realistic price when new.
You see, it is and always has been about self-ordained superiority and the commensurate company of smugness and arrogance. Who owns the "best." This forum was invented to ridicule the Dodge (and utimately the owners) and brag about the Titan. This is so salesperson-like. They must have a number to demonstrate that they sell something better. The Titan is faster (although I haven't seen and times yet), the Titan has more torque (by how many pounds?), yadayadayada.
Naturally there will be people to carry water for those unknowledgeable sales folk suffering from insecurity. After all, if they bought a Titan, it must be the best. But the Titan braggaderos cannot rewrite history. They cannot remove the totally inaccurate statements or the child-like smugness from earlier posts.
The used car market is dead right now, in part due to these incentives. I don't think that anyone in thier right mind can point thier finger at Dodge and say that its thier fault. All the domestics and some of the import sellers have been participating in various incentives to continue to drive sales in a somewhat sluggish economy, not just Dodge. In part its the greed of the automakers trying toi keep thier sales at record paces and part consumers purchasing new products to capitalize on the good deals when they really have no need for a replacement vehicle.
You're also right about the current used car market. Flash and fad sales of the past have produced a just being felt ripple. There is a glut of certain types of cars: mini-vans, SUVs, and trucks. Be thankful if you are a Dodge truck owner. The used market IS NOT glutted with RAMS and even less of Dakotas. The piston slap and other quality problems have put a lot of GM trucks on the used market. Ford suffers from it's own popuarity as there are so many F150s available, too. Caravans, Explorers, Grand Cherokees, Windstars, S10 Blazers are among the bigger resale losers.
As the used market begins to settle down this will swing back to a more normal condition. It just so happens that my company is rotating out of F150s and taking a real hit on them now. But spring is just around the corner!
Regards,
Dusty
Here are the sales numbers:
#1......GM 8,600,000 vehicles
#2......Toyota 6,780,000 vehicles
#3......Ford 6,720,000 vehicles
Ford has NEVER challenged GM for #1 in sales altho the Ford F-150 is THE best selling model of any vehicle in the USA.
The Dodge Ram is a very solid #3 for best selling model behind #2 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.
#1-ford f150
#2-chevy silverado
#3-toyota camry & solara
#4-ford explorer, sport, &sport trac
#5-honda accord
#6-dodge ram
#7-ford taurus
#8-honda civic
#9-chevy trailblazer
#10-dodge caravan
these are 2002 numbers, but i doubt they changed enough to put the dodge #3.
But then what do I know, I drive an import so I am arrogant and ....smug...
Give me numbers for "INTELLIGENT" buyers...
They do have an interesting accessory on site. What looks like a smoke stack, actually produces sonic waves that prevents hail from forming for a one mile radius. The local news channel ran the story.
When you compare the North American sales growth, retention of market, and projection based on 2002s sales, you will find that if maintaining moderate but steady growth, Ford would displace GM by 2008.
>>>The Dodge Ram is a very solid #3 for best selling model behind #2 Chevrolet Silverado pickup.<<<
I'm pretty sure you meant truck.
>>>But then what do I know, I drive an import so I am arrogant and ....smug...<<<
Gee, the old "I'm a victim" strategy by trying to put words into people's mouths that was never said.
Regards,
Dusty
also, you fail to remember, the people there have only had the job for 8 months or so. give them some time to save a little cash, man. ;-)
To keep this post on topic, I am planning on test driving the titan, tundra and ram this weekend if we don't ice over. I'll post my experience.
Have a good weekend everybody.

Back to the trucks!

I'd be careful here. There was a bash comment about Americans, but you didn't seem to mind as long as the commentor was bashing Dodge. And what about your occasional trite and child-like jabs? Please don't give me the "didn't you see the smiley," either.
Since you opened up four threads versus the Titan as an obvious vehicle to hone your sales scripts for potential customers, I find this whole scheme kind of insulting. Since I have been a contributor in the Edmunds' forums, I know of no other person who identified him or herself as a automobile salesman that has behaved in such a way or attempted to use these forums for such a prurient manner.
As to the claim that you are only interested in "...speak[ing] intelligently about the differences in the 2 trucks and why you like one or the other...," I think this is entirely disingenuous and hypocritical. You most certainly haven't complained about the direction of the dialog when inflammatory comments were made about Dodge or there was a caustic suggestion made about the intelligence of Dodge owners.
Your whole contribution here has been one-sided and highly biased. That is most certainly your privilege, but please don't try to recast yourself has the non-partisan narrator.
my 'sales strategies' are just fine without this board, and need no practice.
renegaded, you said you want to extend the olive branch, and you followed that with a personal insult. decide what you want to do. dicuss automobiles or insult other members? most of us came here so people tying to decide could get information both ways. you like the dodge better. why? i like the nissan better. i'll post those reasons later.
I hope you're not expecting me to believe that, are you? You happen to work for a Ford & Nissan dealer, don't you? Are you trying to say that you just happen to like the two brands that your dealership sells?
Which came first, the Ford or Nissan franchise?
>>>i'm a car nut....<<<
There are a lot of "car nuts" in here. There's a difference between a "car nut" and a person who is a prisoner of their own opinions seeking social superiority.
Sales bias and partisanship, pure and simple. The history of your posts tell the story.
But that doesn't make any sense. Since GM has had the incentives on they've lost revenue. Why would a company reduce the price on their product to boost sales if they needed capital to pay a bill?
It really doesn't matter who came here for what reason or what their background is or isn't. Town Hall is not a place for you to personally duke it out. I don't want ANYONE to lose their access to Town Hall, but if this continues, that's the end of the road this kind of stuff leads to.
