Can anyone out there comment on the payload listed in Edmunds that states it is 996lbs. for the frontier? Is this correct? I would have hoped it would be greater than this. I know sometimes all the facts aren't right and was hoping someone who owns the 2005 could let me know what the manual says. Also, was wondering if anyone can comment on the performance from the 2.5 engine compared to the 2.7 from the 2005 Tacoma? Anyone with any first hand experience? Thanks to all - - hope to hear some good feedback like always!!
Looking at the posted mileages people get, it's obvious that driving style makes a difference. Keeping speed to 65 mph instead of 85 mph will save gas. Like you, I generally drive steady and easy, so I always get better highway mpg than the EPA ratings. I am hoping to get 22 mpg highway with the Frontier (truck is supposedly being made this month).
I won't be getting aggressive with my Frontier, either--it's pretty darned BIG with long wheelbase...something to think about on narrow winding trails. All the 4-wheeling I've done was slow-speed stuff, contrary to TV ads.
It runs very well. It ran well, before, too, as the ticking sound really didn't affect performance, which is good. Any Frontier made after 01/11/05 will not have the rattle noise, per the TSB, so don't worry about it.
I didn't drive a 2005 Toyota, so I can't compare to it, but I did own a 2004 Tacoma, which I rolled/totaled.
This truck has plenty of power. It rides smoother than my old one, and does not pass as much road noise to the cabin. The six speed is nice. I used 4WD a couple of times in snow. It sticks amazingly well. I have the ABLS option, which for 300 bucks is a steal, I think. I am happy with the purchase, especially for the price. I hope that helps.
I just got a call from the local dealer by asking me if I'm ready to come test drive Le CC 4x4 prob. Wed.day if things go good.
goodluck with your truck,ps did you get leather? If so is it worth having?
As far as the leather, I really like it. So easy to keep clean (I have two dogs) and looks very nice. Plus, heated seats, heated mirrors, 8 way electric seats. It is expensive, but worth it to me. The more miles I put on the truck, the smoother the engine/drivetrain. Nissan did a very good job. So far I have the rattle (getting fixed tomorrow), also my fan was making too much noise (you wouldn't even notice, but the truck is really quiet) so they are replacing that, otherwise no problems. Hope this helps.
The time is soon. They dont have the truck I want in stock and don't have one coming through the end of April. They did find 2 at a another nearby dealer, but they want a commitment to get it. I should have my financing in place in a couple of days. So I could have it by this weekend, if the numbers match!
I have the fightingchance information and am going to do the "fax attack" on about 35 dealers within about 3 to 4 hours of where I live. I am also interested in the N*WN*****S.C*M offer of $500.00 below invoice. A one way plane ticket to seattle is about $125.00 and figure about $125.00
in gas to get home. It's worth it to me.
Here's what I want
05 NISMO 4x4 C/C Storm Gray
sunroof
rockfordfosgate
side airbags
Traction package
tow hitch
floor mats
micro filter
Invoice $28,107.00
Dose anyone have a similar rig and what type of deal did you strike.
Thanks
could you notice the noise.
the the nissan is a nice truck,I will be telling everyone about my truck soon things come in place for me.
good luck
Have decided and am getting the Nismo CC 4WD. Picking it up today from dealer.
Test drove both trucks numerous times. Impressed with both. What swayed my decision to the Frontier was the fact every time I would get into the Tacoma I knees banged into the steering wheel. With the steering wheel at its highest position. I am only 5'9". Read on the Tacoma forum of individuals 6' plus not mentioning is problem but, I did. Which was not acceptable to me. Has anybody else experienced this problem too? On test drives.
Also, read of people reporting issues of Tacoma's 4WD not engaging properly. Plus, the Tacoma has a recall on it already.
Getting mine pretty plain jane. Only option I was wanting to have was the Traction pkg. But, no dealers could located any within my region without other optional pkg. stuff I did not want or need.
Only thing I wish that the Frontier sat a little high body wise like the Tacoma. Even though true ground clearance between the two is about the same.
I test drove a Tacoma Access cab, was impressed vs. the older versions, but with two little ones I realized I better step up to the Dcab/CC.
Last week I went and saw a Frontier CC 4x4 Nismo and was really impressed on looks alone. I didn't get to drive it since the dealer was closed. However, right next to it sat a Titan 4x4 Kcab XE for the same price! I like having a bigger bed too but that truck is darn big, hence the Tundra...So when it comes time buy, I guess I will see who gives me the best price for each truck then make my call.
Also haven't seen any posts about mpg in the Frontier 4x4's w/ the 6-speed and am curious to see how they compare to the autos.
Thanks for any input.
- Titan only comes with automatic transmission and V8
- Tundra can be had with 8' bed and regular cab (which appeals to me) but no 4WD with these combos, and no locking differential option (no limited-slip option for the V6, either). The V8 is only available w/automatic transmission.
- Both trucks are big...that's a lot of wind resistance to be pushing around. The 2007 Tundra is supposed to be even bigger than the Titan. I wonder if it will actually be produced given the way gas prices are going.
I test drove Tacoma and Frontier and preferred the latter for numerous reasons (check archives of late January for detailed post). Even though you are interested in NISMO (my pick), it would be a good idea to drive both it and non-NISMO for comparison, as they have different rides as well as different equipment. I was going to test drive both TRD and non-TRD Tacomas but was so disappointed in other aspects of the truck that I did not come back for another test drive.
Remember that XE is base model and NISMO is one of the two higher-priced models, so you'd need to compare XE Frontier to XE Titan to compare apples to apples (sort of). You can get a base Tundra for about $18K while some Tacomas go for more than $30K.
Around here, the newspaper ads don't even list the 2005 Tacomas' and Frontiers' prices. In fact, I've only seen a couple of ads that ever mentioned their being available at all. Meanwhile, prices are being dropped by 1000s on full-size trucks, including Tundra and Titan. Some of the discounts go to $11K below MSRP--those trucks must be loaded up with every package and option possible.
If you are still shopping next month, look for my post about gas mileage. I ordered a NISMO KC 4WD 6-spd which supposedly arrives next month.
The first-year rate for my (now-sold) 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sport was about $75/month and the rate for the same coverage on the Frontier will be $125/month, just to give you an idea.
Those of you who have bought already, or are comparing rates, have you found that different insurance companies "like" or "dislike" a particular brand/model, or do all of them generally charge high rates for a given model? Yeah, I'll be calling around, too, but would like to hear if anybody has recommendations.
I forgot that part.
I am glad it worked for you.
I checked these forums a couple months ago for various info on the new Frontiers, and finally bought one about three weeks ago! Here's some info I found useful when I was still shopping around...
Storm Gray NISMO 4x2
avg. 18.5 mpg (even split city, highway driving)
insurance not too bad
got it for $250 over invoice
rides like a dream on unmaintained roads that comprise a part of my daily commute
Question:
It came with a removable bed liner, not the spray in kind. What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?
Thanks for the help, past, present, future.
I've been playing the the odometer features, especially the MPG calculator.
The highest number I've seen on it is 27.2 mpg. That's highway driving, reset after getting up to speed, and probably a little downhill with wind at my back.
On that particular trip, all highway through a city, I got about 24-25 mpg.
On your insurance question. I only saw a approx. $30 increase every 6 months going to the Frontier. $371/6 months. That's with renters / auto discounts here in NE Wisconsin. But, I also
have it designated at 3 miles or less for commute to work. That's with "American Family Ins."
I don't want to start an argument. I just want to issue a warning to the larger folk out there: check out the roominess of the different pickups out there!
There is such a big price difference between the two websites that i thought i might be missing something. I like the idea of having a zipper to access bed from either side or corner.
They say they are genuine nissan parts for the 2005 Frontier. Would appreciate any feedback.

After that, I was really concerned that the Toyota Tacoma would be the same way (at that point, I was only considering those two trucks), so rushed out to the nearest Toyota dealership to sit in the cab. I actually had to pull the seat forward a couple of notches to be able to get the clutch in comfortably!
That really disappointed me, but it made my decision between the two trucks very easy...
2:A plastic bedliner will shift and will not keep out the water frome getting under the bed, witch will cause rust and will cause you bed to rot and it will also make you lose your truck value.A few of my friends have cracked but mine hasn't yet.But I'm going to buy my new Fronty soon,I'm getting it with all the bells and whistles CC-LE V6.
Get the spray bedline it also increass the value of your truck and it looks sharp, some auto shops by me do sprayliners in different colors its and its pretty wild!!!
Hope this helps you out
Good luck

I see the body side moldings on the website too:
999G2-BR101SC, 999G2-BR102SC, 999G2-BR101SK and 999G2-BR102SK.
I'll want these for my 4x2 SE CC when I decide to get it. I wonder what the four part numbers reference? I'm guessing the "SC" is for Crew, but that leaves two choices. I wonder if they're offered in limited body colors or what.

I see also that the *Titan's* soft tonneau is not compatible with the bed extender; looking like Frontier's *could* suffer the same.

This is regular driving with no highway miles.
However, I'd guess that the drop-in liners offer more protection from dents--if the liner is damaged, you just replace it. Downside is that the liners themselves could vibrate and eventually cause paint to be worn off the bed itself. My current truck's bedliner has some gouges in it but nothing that went through or cracked. Previous bedliners stayed in great shape. I had toppers sitting on all 3 bedliners (bedliners lipped over the bedrails).
Spray-on liners probably don't protect as well from denting but they do not damage the bed itself. If you are worried about keeping the painted metal bed in pristine shape, it might be best to use a spray-on liner and install hard rubber mats or other intermediary as needed (when carrying certain types of loads). (This is what I plan to do with my Frontier.) Truck supply stores sell all kinds of interesting bed mats. Or you could make your own.
