The bed mat for a regular sized bed is the "Long Bed" size(73.5) on the parts/accessories listing. The "short bed" is for the double cab w/o the extended bed (60.3). Maybe they gave you the wrong one. Hope this helps.

2005 Tacoma, double cab/ shortbed V6, TRD offroad package. MSRP 29,600/ sale price 27,900. Is this a reasonable sale price?

I was going to install the signature series chrome step bars on my 05 taco double cab in mica silver. Any one else have these? How do they look and perform?
    How was the installation?
Are these better than what I could get from DeeZee?
    Thanks

That is what the dealer quoted me, same package. Sounded like a fair price, definately not a show stopper deal though.

My only decision left to make on the Tacoma is which rims to get? The 18" Enkei or BBS. Does anyone have a picture with either of these rims on their Tacoma they can post?

It is my opinion that MSRP is ultimately irrelevant and that what matters is their cost plus a reasonable profit. Use the tools here at edmunds.com to figure out what the truck costs the dealer, add $400-$500 for a reasonable profit and find a dealer who will give it to you for this price. Costco members have access to a program that actually seemed to work for me to get the price down into this neighborhood. It is in the interest of the dealer they refer you to to keep you happy.

Also, you don't say whether this is a 4x4 or Prerunner. Obviously this makes a serious difference in price as well. Good luck.

At The Motor Oil Site you will see a link to grab the Motor Oil Bible in .pdf form. I found this to be useful in its detailed description of what happens to oil as it is used and there is an extensive discussion of sythetics, what they are and how they achieve better performance. He also addresses the issue of oil filter changes when you're using oil that is meant to last 20-25k miles.

I tried this in my area with 4 different dealers, they all watched me walk out without even bothering to take my phone number. Not a good sign.

That tactic DOES work on less popular vehicles, my '99 Jeep was picked up at invoice. It may also work on a Tacoma towards the end of the summer. Right now, in some areas, they're sold before they're built, much less actually arrive at the dealership.

I finally ended up dealing with a dealer who went about $25.5 for a truck that Edmunds TMVs in my zip code @ 26,6'ish. My dealer has ONE 4x4 DC V6, and ONE 4x2 4 banger, on the lot for test drives, I wasn't able to find an Access cab to drive before I bought mine. I test drove the DC.

If you're in an area where Tacos and Toyota have any kind of a following, buying close to invoice will be very tough right now. If getting a rock bottom price is important to you, WAIT!

Ford Rangers and Mazda B-series have piles of cash on the hood right now, but they're what they are. ;)

right on, I messed up on the order, (shaking my head) lol, i thought mine was the short bed as I have the extended cab, oh well live and learn. Thanks for the reply.

One thing to try is the internet quote thing through edmunds. I really don't understand why they give you a better price if you go through email, but they do. When I went into the dealership, the salesman tried to give me a price that was around a thousand dollars more than what I was quoted in email. If I didn't have the emails, I would have to pay quite a bit more.

I recommend putting in your info into an internet search for dealers in your region who offer you the "internet price". I'm ordering a DBL cab shortbed V6, 4x4, manual trans, w/ og (off road package w/ tow), dz (6 cd player), fe (emissions), floor mat and bed mat for $26,218.00. Obviously the automatic would bump that price up a little. Only drawback is I have to drive 2 1/2 hours to get it - I think a $1000 dollars is worth my 5 hours of time. I live in NM and I know the deals are very regional. I did call around to local dealers and asked them if they could match or beat the price and noone could - or would.

Bottom line - I wouldn't buy until shopping around more.

GPS'd my '05 Taco last night.

With stock TRD Offroad wheel package properly inflated, cruise set on flat roads, GPS & speedo were within .5 mph @ 35, 45, 60, & 70. 1/2 a mile an hour is not easy to read on an analog speedo, so I'm calling it accurate.

GPS is a Garmin 60CS, reporting 8 foot accuracy.

I can't find any local radar signs to compare the GPS & Radar with. :)

I put a Torxo top tonneau cover on my access cab today. Folds up in 3 pieces. Clamps slide in tracks with tie downs. Cost 375.00 installed. Looks great.

Are these the chrome steps sold by the dealer? I'm not sure who the actual manufacturer of mine is, but I got the chrome steps from the dealer in January. Each step mounts to the cab in three locations, 2 bolts per location - fairly easy installation. Took my time doing it alone in about 45 minutes - could have been done in 10 or 15 if I knew what I was doing.

As far as function, I'm 250 lb and put my weight on them getting into the truck with no issues - no wobble or give. My only complaint is that they're actually a little too close to the truck, and your foot is almost underneath the door sill when getting in. I don't bother using them to get out, but I don't have a lift on my PreRunner (yet).

Invoice for the 2005 Tacoma is about $2500-$3000 off of MSRP. You decide.

Since the empty fog light holes are so ugly (I did not buy the fog light set up), I want to fill them with a fog lamp just to fix the look - but I don't care at all if they work. What are the fewest parts I could buy to make this work?

    Thanks for the ideas...

i have the westin chrome platinum series on my speedway blue dc shortbed...i was planning to wash/wax it this weekend, i'll take some pics of the truck and the tube steps so you can take a look. i really like them, both for looks and for function. while i rarely use them to get in or out, i find that ladies like to use them. they also look really nice (i have the westin chrome bull bar as well, so the chrome all around the truck ties in).

    Hi jdvailco
I purchased the above lights and installed them on my SR5 Speedway Blue Double Cab Long Box. I also hated the openings for the fog lights so these have been a great addition. I have pictures to show you how they look installed if you are interested, I paid $67US I believe including shipping and I live in Canada. My e-mail address is jessupr@yahoo.com if you have further questions.
  • dr_turbodr_turbo Member Posts: 60
Are they as nice as they say they are? I would really like to see pics of those.
How was the install? Thank you

How hard was it to install? Someone told me that the wiring harness was already there, but when I looked into I could not find any harness. Does the kit come with rocker switch? Do you see any improvement other then cosmetics? Thanks...

nope...check out the prices paid forum and you will see others getting about the same and paying a lot less. $300-$500 over invoice is awesome. $500-$1000 is good. Over $1000, I'd walk away

As noted by others, you probably have the "long bed".
The short bed double cab doesn't have any floor space "in front of the rear wheels".
It is just over 5 ft long. If you have a wide cargo box floor area both in front of and behind the rear wheels, you have a long bed.

We just picked up our Taco on Friday, Paid $27995 for a truck with a $30198 window sticker - with ZERO haggling. We went thru the Costco auto program. If you're a costco member you just walk into the dealer and get your Costco price. Or if they don't have what you want, we even ordered the exact truck in the exact color we wanted. 4x4 DblCab Longbed, TRD sport #4 (w/tow), DZ stereo option & those dumb $188 floor mats...
Just an option I thought I'd share, that worked for me.
  • iwanna05tacoiwanna05taco Member Posts: 11
installation was not too bad, took me about 1 1/2 hours to do both by myself with my brother-in-law holding the steps up in place when needed. not difficult to install if you have the right tools and understand the manual pretty well. they are as nice as people say, i love the way they look just because i love the way chrome looks with blue...but they are very, very attractive. and they are a good distance from the cabin. some people have complained of other steps that were too close to the cabin they were basically kicking it every time they would try to use them. not with the westins!

Hi, I’ve been checking in here pretty regular and the information has been a lot of help. Many questions I’ve had have been answered here. Close to biting the bullet on a Tacoma, but a couple questions I hope you all can help me with. First, how would you rate the sound of the stereo? My sisters Corolla stereo, believe this or not, doesn’t even sound second rate compared to a (nearly stripped) Neon, a friend of mine has (both are all stock.) I don’t have much of an ear for music, and wouldn’t know a good set-up if it fell on me, but even I noticed the difference. Normally, a radio/stereo is not a big deal to me, but with the difference mentioned in mind, I have some concerns. Any thoughts on the stock or upgraded system? With the upgrade, does this mean you’re getting (whether you want it or not) the six disc changer? I only ask because I’d rather stick with one cd, instead of six. Any feedback on the changer would be great. (For the last time, both cd players DO read mp3s, RIGHT?) Lastly, with the tow package, it does have the same rear as the regular, say, SR5 or TRD w/o tow? Haven’t seen it mentioned, but figured this was the case. By the way, whats up with no oil pressure or amp gauge?
Appreciate any information or opinions. Thanks!

The Taco that I ordered is finally here after 5 months. Yea I know outrageous but I left it alone because I still didn’t need it and still had to sell my 1998 taco. Want to know from you guy the problem that ya’ll have with your Tacoma’s. Is there anything particular that I should look for when picking it up? I’m getting a D-cab 4X4 V6 6manual with the (OG)off-road pakage#2, (EJ)JBL system, (CF) carpet mats, (SF)stainless steel exhaust tip, (WT)window tint for $27,174.00. What do you think of that price? Will probable pick it up next week since they picked up my 1998 taco yesterday? It was sad to see her go 198,700 miles on her and never had a problem. Great truck'

Has anyone been able to find out if the alarm mod that works on the 03's and 04's works on the 05's? Here is the link that I found the mod at:
    www.customtacos.com/tech/index.php?page=index_v2&id=12&c=6
It sounds like a really good idea if it works on the 05's. If anyone has done this let me know. Thanks...

I submitted a question to Toyota about how much fuel is left after the low fuel light comes on. The service manager from the dealership I bought from called me and the gas tank in both the 4 cyl. and V6 are 21 gallons. He told me there is approximately 3-3.5 gallons of fuel left in the tank when the light comes on.

Nice choice in GPS. Have the same model myself. I tried the Garmin suction cup windshield mount, and was less than impressed with it. It shook all over the place, and made looking at it while driving almost impossible.

Ebayed that, and ended up going with the locking suction cup mount made by RAM mounts. It's the second one I have had (should have known to go that route first, but the RAM mount wasn't out yet), although a bit expensive, it's very, very stable.

Try regular gas and keep it under 65 mph. I bet you'll hit 20 mpg if you do some highway driving with your tank of gas. Let me know.

Access Cab V6 TRD Sport with 7800 miles has developed a rattle I can't identify. It sounds like the access cab rear door on the passenger side. Not noticeable when someone rides in the passenger seat. Not noticeable when going over normal road or bumps. Mostly hear it when turning on corners with potholes or rough road surface. Sounds like the rear (small) door is not on good or something is loose, but when I inspect it, it seems tight. Only sound I can get is when I open and close it a couple of inches, the bar going into the door from the frame has some "give" and makes some noise. I don't think it is the cab mount bolts others have talked about. I have put a towel around the seat belts on that side and put weatherstripping on the underside of the plastic tray lid under the rear seats. Still the noise. Nothing is stored in the storage compartments except the jack. I've taken that out and still have the noise. It's bugging the heck out of me. Any ideas?? I don't want the dealer to start taking it all apart if I don't have to.

Everything I have been told indicates that NONE of the cd players can read mp3s. That is one of the minor things that annoyed me with the Tacoma vs. the Nissan Frontier. Even with that, I still ordered the Tacoma...

hi, I did upgrade stereo, with speakers(much better than stock). I have a clarion stereo, from last vehicle, when dash kits come out, i will go have it installed, you can get a changer if you want, you did not mention what cab config you are getting, but i have dble cab, i couls get a change but this stereo can record up to 80 songs on its memory, kind of neat, alot easier than bringing cds around all of the time, well hope you can have the stuff you want.

I bought my tacoma 3 hours after they when on sale on oct 14 2004 prerunner, double cab long bed and sports package... the next day I took it to this shop to have an AVIC-N1 navigation DVD sistem put in... they used fiberglass to make to kit. They used the same panel where the original stereo goes and then filled all the holes from the buttons with the fiber glass on the back and body filler in the front and then they painted to match the rest of the dashboard.. I was very happy... I have pictures...

I also have the Ram mount. Good stuff!

I use the suction cup in cars and light aircraft, and have a ball mount screwed to the "hood" of my kayak. The one place I like Garmin mounts the best are on bicycles. Ram mounts are kind of clunky on a bicycle, and the ubolt can crush a high-end handlebar.

I just wish Garmin would allow us to choose GPS altitude or barometric altitude on a display box and in climb / descent calculations. Barometric altitude is useless in pressurized a/c, and accessing GPS altitude is via a klutzy workaround.

    How'd your speedo measure up?
  • jackhammerjackhammer Member Posts: 92
    Hi Troutdoorsman
The 21US gallons that the service manager is telling you about is the 80Litres that the maunal lists. I have mentioned on here before that I have put in 23.4US gallons or about 89 Litres in one fill up. This involves maxing out the tank. Thats quite a bit extra (2.3US gallons) from what Toyota lists as a tank size.

Still need to get a bike mount, but have been reluctant to do so for the vary reason you stated. I assume you mountain bike, but a friend has the Gecko 301 with a bike mount, and that seems a better solution, and cheaper, if you wreck and trash the GPS. Never would have thought about putting one on a kayak. Nice idea. I've used mine on a commercial aircraft (one that allowed them), however, they seem to get nervous (flight attendants), since they don't know what they are. It's cool to see that you're moving at 400MPH though!

I agree on the altitude/barometric option as well. Seems strange they haven't done that yet.

My speedo was only 1.5MPH off at 65 and 2MPH off at 70MPH. Not that big of a deal. The speedo was lower than the GPS, but that didn't stop me from getting a ticket! :confuse:

Have you heard back on any high flow intakes yet? Airaid is set to release theirs late spring early summer, K&N is in the design stages.
For your Flowmaster was it a kit? or did they bend it for you?
I am on a waiting list for a Leer 100XQ canopy, i found out yesterday that production will not be starting untill June!!
one thing i have noticed is that patience comes with owning an`05, you have to wait for everything. Months for your truck, months for perfomance parts,......
As well i am interested in installing a chip eventually, does anyone have any feed back??

Which is better the Dee Zee's or the Westin's for the Access Cab?
The way I understand it easy install no drilling just using existing hardware for mounting.

I ride on and off road, with five bikes. I used to have an eTrex Vista as well, but I got tired of having the wrong maps, etc... in each unit, so I just ride with the 60CS. A mini caribiner is attached to the strap in case the mount breaks. If I want to use the GPS on extremely difficult terrain, I'll stick it in my pack and use an external antenna. I like the accuracy of the track logs from the 60.

I'm happy that the Taco has enough windscreen slope and other glass to not need an external antenna with the 60CS in the Ram mount. This unit is my 9th GPS since 1995.

Small nicks and scratches are easily taken out of the GPS screen with Flitz, if you should happen to get them.

I am considering a larger rim size 17" to 20" which is likely going to increase the tire diameter from 30" to 33". I cannot formulate a equation on circumference as far as what percentage larger is the circumference of the 33" diameter tire. Do you know this equation? Presuming a tread width of 265mm for either tire what effect on mileage is the extra 3" of diameter going to have?
