dealer msrp was $29, 3XX
The other quote I got was for $27,500 so I would fight them more.
Thanks
This mod allows the fog lights to illuminate with the parking lights, low beam headlights, or high beam headlights. How the 05 Tacoma works now, the fog lights are only on when your low beams are on. They won't come on if you have just the marker lights on or if you have the high beams on. This mod lets you change that. You can have the fog lights on whenever you want.
First, identify the fog light relay in the fuse/relay box under the hood, next to the battery. Gently remove it. The male terminal closest to the engine and the firewall is the one that needs to be bent. Gently bend it outwards, so it will be sticking out when you plug the relay back in. This is the terminal that would normally receive 12 V+ from the low beam headlights. Then attach a female spade connector to a piece of light gauge wire(18-22 will do, not much current here). Plug the spade connector into the terminal that you just bent over, and reinstall the relay. Connect the wire that you just attached to the relay and splice it into the parking light, 12 V+ wire(green wire) Caution: Don’t get the turn signal or headlight wire, the parking lights are the outboard lights. Tape up & secure your connections and voila!, fog lights on with the parking lights, low beam headlights, or high beam headlights. You can still turn the fogs on/off with the fog light switch on lower left instrument panel.

as for the flowmaster, just in stalled that a bit forward of previous monstrosity and bent pipe out the side in front of the rearwheel with nice chrome tip...noticibly more power, squeels nicely off the line.
thanks for your reply..good luck.

The price is around $750.00 that seems a pretty fair price. Has anyone tried installing one themselves?
Thanks
Tire:
(section width in mm) x (aspect ratio as decimal)
----------------------------------------------------------------------- + rim diameter
12.7 (1/2-inch in mm)
example - 265/70R17:
265 x .70
--------------- + 17 = 31.60 inches overall height
12.7
example - 275/60R20:
275 x .60
--------------- + 20 = 33.00 inches
12.7
divide the heights:
33.00 / 31.6 = 1.044 --> new tire will be 4.4% larger than the old, and will distort your speedometer by the same value: indicated 65 mph x 1.044 = 67.86 mph actual speed

Use the past posts to get the details at to the speaker sizes, (6x9 front, 6 1/2 rear) I found that one can save about 60% shopping on ebay. I purchased a pair of boston acoustic pro series for the front and a similar pair for the rear. I installed the speakers myself to save money. The installation was very easy. Aftermarket speakers using the factory amp will sound horrible! I then went to Audio Express to have them install a 5 channel amp and a 8" Rockford Fosgate sub. The overall sounds is awesome. The amp costs around $400 and the sub another $200. The problem was that Audio Express did a horrible installation. There are push pins located on each door that are no longer there. There are alligator clips on trim panels that are all but gone. I went to the Toyota dealer to purchase more. That cost me about $20.
I currently use the 6 disc changer (I do not know if it accepts MP3), steering wheel controls, alpine 5 channel amp and the above mentioned speakers. There is some tuning needed but I am totally happy with the system. I do know this, the stock speakers must go, the amp is totally inadequate, and I recommend doing the install yourself. Good luck to all!

* Thule is slow to answer emails regarding the Xporter (that claims to fit ALL trucks!) I'm still waiting 2 weeks later! Thule already lists a fit for roof racks, which would nicely pair with a Goalpost, if you aren't towing.
I work at a bicycle shop that sells Thule & Yakima, and feel strongly that both will come out with something soon. Both companies, along with others, offer versions of the Thule Goalpost, which will allow boats to be carried in the bed.
I have local truck body guys that'll gladly put a Trac Rac ladder rack on with expanding fasteners through the plastic top rail, into the metal. These are the same types of folks who put box, dump, and garbage truck bodies on big trucks. This is the way they install Trac Racs on utility body trucks. Clamps are already on the market to attach caps (topper / shell, etc...) to the tee track. The corners of the bed are metal, my local fabricators see no technical reason why a rack wouldn't work, unlike the original Colorado / Canyon, which came with a crushable bed.
My 11'6" kayak rides in the bed, with the gate down, with no problems. While I'd like an overhead rack, at least I can use the boat. I run straps from the tip of the boat that's hanging out the back, back to either the tie downs or the tailgate latch loops. Front wall of bed to back edge of lowered tailgate is a few inches shy of 8' on the '05 Taco.
Once ONE company offers a product, I'm sure all of them will. The new Taco is selling very well here in New England, A.K.A. "they can't keep 'em on the lot", so the demand will probably be there to carry boats. It's just new!
Any suggestions? :confuse:
MPG 17 - 23, 89 octane ( there are days in traffic @ 15mpg).
Price was 29, 660 ( TRD sport # 4) plus a few other options.
I had this in an 03 Tacoma.
The dealer agreed with me that the chips were not an option. The sensible thing to do is tell that dealer that you want it painted. I did. The paint job looked like it was supposed to and I never had any more chip problems. I think you will be happier than if you leave it alone. And those are your only two viable options.
I traded my 03 on an 05 and the new one did not have the problem.
Incidentally, Toyota paid for the paint job and a rental for me while the truck was tied up in the body shop.

Climbed it like a billy goat, although I noticed that burning metal smell at the end, what's that? Truck is driving fine since.
I too am interested if anyone has heard of any horror stories from recently built Tacomas. Hope they got all the bugs worked out by now, the '06s must be getting ready to come out in the next few months. (Wonder, is it worth waiting for an early '06 or getting a late '05.)
Best I can tell mine was built 2-14-05 also, ser # 51719, wondered how close it was to your serial number????
Anyway, no chips, no leaks, no wind noise, not one thing wrong with it.

The dealer tried to screw me with the tires, I turfed the crappy BFGoodrich and put on REVOs. They put on 245/75's instead of the 265/70's and told me they were the same thing. In all the excitment I believed them and drove home 2 hrs away. Long story short I called and gave them [non-permissible content removed] for downgrading the size (and the tire is cheaper too!) and they are replacing them at no cost this week. Car sellers are sketchy, you have to watch your [non-permissible content removed].
Has anybody found a good quality, solid black aluminium nerf bar yet?
Gotta go drivin'!
I am a little unclear on how you did your exhaust, did you take it to a shop and they bent them for you? if so does this cost much more or is better then going with a kit?
Thanks for the feedback on the chip, it sounds like i might pass on that as well.
I had seen where some people had mentioned that the tailgate damaged easily. Well I had my Jag's cast iron straight six engine block slip my (poorly) tied line and slid from front to back bashing into the tailgate at a good speed while driving. Scared the heck out of me because it was loud as hell and I figured for sure that it would have torn the heck out of the tailgate. Surprisingly it wasn't touched one bit. That cast iron block is very heavy, but I can't even find a nick out of the composite material. I was surpised as I guess I was a little paranoid from what I read here.

I'm looking at two pie products:
http://store.yahoo.com/logjam/pietoy03aux.html
http://store.yahoo.com/logjam/pie35rca6mm.html
I called them up and got some good feedback. Plugs into the back of the head unit. Still allows use of the CD changer.
Anyone have any instructions or experience with pulling the head unit? How do you get to it? Easy to pull off. On a previous car, I needed a special tool.
Thanks,
John
I need a little help with a audio upgrade on my 05 Tacoma Access cab. I do not care much about it being loud or shaking the windows or anything I would just like to fix it so that it would have a better sound to it and maybe just a little more volume so that I can still hear the music while driving with the windows down.
I would like to do this the cheapest and the easiest way possible so I'm open to suggestions. Will just changing the speakers help or do I need to do more?
My truck has the factory CD player but not the 6 disc changer. I do not want to change stereos I just need some better sound.
Thanks
I walked out on a deal to pay $200 over invoice on an Access Cab 4WD TRD Off-Road. My invoice from Edmunds and KBB did not match their's. The difference was $452, which they marked as "TDA". Has anyone else seen this charge? Have you paid it and is it legitimate or just a way to weasel another $452 out of me?
The stock tires are too small to begin with (215 70R 15) so, I upgraded the Firestone Destination LE tires to 225 75R15 and now read 60.5 mph GPS @ 60 mph indicated. As calculated when these tires are at the wear markers, it will be 59.5 mph GPS @ 60 indicated. The tires now look right for stock (size-wise) and ride height increased by about 1.5 - 2.0". I think Toyota screwed up on this one royally.
By the way, the stock Destination LE's are a very good tire for stock. See link:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Destination+LE&sidewa- ll=Blackwall
Pictures with instructions. It's VERY easy. Just take your time. I used a putty knife to get the thermostat controls out with. I think the 4 screws are 10mm.
If a speedometer can't be correct, it should read higher than the actual speed.
Remember, any deviation affects your mileage warranty, positively or negatively. With my stock tires, my warranty would have expired at 57,300 actual miles. By calculating and installing the correct tire size, the problem is now corrected (4.5% error is now <1%).
