For this truck it will retail for $39,000 Cdn. It's a fair chunk of cash but you get what you pay for. 5 years down the road it will be worth at least 50% more then any comparable domestic.
When you consider
1) this truck has nearly all the old sr5 package as standard (CD player, aircon etc)
2) 2 access doors
3) deeper bed (a little less payload)
4) better fuel economy (19/23 vs 18/21)
The list price less than as my '03 4x4 with sr5, alum wheels, bucket seats, privacy glass/sliding rear window, floormats listed for about 21.3K, which I got for 18.3K.
By the way, I get about 19/23 in the '03 with a light foot, so who know what you could get out of the '05.

Just to test the size, I also climbed in a similar '04. The new tacoma is much more comfortable, plenty of leg room and the instrument panel and armrest are a lot nicer. Just sitting in it, I couldn't help but think of the Tundra. From the outside, it's a much sleeker truck - the front end doesn't look so small and snubby and the fenders over the wheels are much more pronounced. The composite bed is a big improvement over the '04.
The only things I didn't like were 1)the radio/air cond. controls - it is a light grey with a strange texture and 2) the liberal use of plastic in the back of the cab - what's wrong with metal?
In other words, if I buy from dealership A, can I get the maintenance done a dealership B? I'm part of a fleet buying program that only uses certain dealerships, and I wouldn't want to drive the distance to that dealership just to get the free maintenance every time I needed an oil change after I bought the truck.
My dealer was unwilling to consider a discount at present, so I guess I'll wait and call around over the next month or two, but I'm definitely planning to purchase one of these babies. And this configuration seems great.
I have been in contact with many dealers in my area and Ive been getting all sorts of quotes and info. The latest I got was for a 2005 Tacoma - Double Cab - Auto - V6 - 4x4 - TRD Off Road #2 with Tow Hitch and Floor Mats.
Manuf. MSRP = 29,140.00
Written Quote = 26,819.00
Discount = $2321.00 !!!
WOW, and the truck isnt even hitting till 1st week of Nov!
Just wanted to post this as a note that if all of us potential 05 buyers as a notice that maybe if we hold off a little bit and refuse to pay MSRP, the dealers may be ready to deal off the bat.
Hope this gives everyone some hope!
So there is a tendency for the sleaziest dealers to give the lowest quotes, and then to try and jack up the price once you're there. OTOH, a lot of the sales pros over on Smart Shopper say they pretty much ignore emails like yours, because whenever they give out a number, their price gets shopped around and they lose a sale.
So when you go, expect the best, but be prepared for the worst...

Thaks for the tips and I appreciate your advice. As far as this deal goes Im not concered about losing it only because it's not the color I want.
In any event, I dont think its a bad thing for others to go out and shop for a better price because if everybody did that on a new model release instead of diving head first in and paying above MSRP, there would be better deals right off the bat.
Everything was perfect. I am 6'3 and had plenty of room, the interior was "manly" and stylish.
My only disappointment was that I could not test drive it. It was in the showroom.
Anyways, the last toyota I purchased was from toyota dealership out of Hemet California. I have called the fleet department and got a GREAT price on a 2005 double cab trd 4x2. About $23000.
My tip in purchasing... every car has a holdback included in the invoice price, which means every dealership automatically makes around $400-$600 on every car sold. Before you purchase, look up the invoice, offer your local dealer no more than $300 over invoice... Remember - you hold the cash and all the cards, if your dealership won't honor a good price.. go to another.
Also, is the 6 disc CD Changer a standard option?
Looks like we'll see invoice pricing by tomorrow evening.

Hi. I was wondering if you knew when invoice pricing would be available for the 2005 Toyota Tacoma. MSRP pricing was released by Toyota last week, and I wondered about how long it took to get into your system.
Thank you. Jason.
Jason.
Postive: Inside well, like a 4 runner. No flaws I could see. No doubt smoothest truck I've driven, like a Lexus. The sport suspension was not stiff like I expected, truck handled comfortably, say like the Off-road suspension. If you were hoping for a 5 passenger X-runner, pulling .90g on a skidpad, you will be sadly disappointed. The long wheelbase is same as fullsize D-cab Tundra, not best for tight manuvers, but if you want over 20 mpg, carry 5 peeps and want a 6 ft bed, where else?
Negative: How did a truck 5 in wider than previous model manage to keep same width box! The little Colorado and new Dakota def have more cubic feet, both short and long beds. The Taco bed is composite inside, steel outside, in between the materials, looks like 2-3 inches empty space that could have made bed 5-6 wider altogether. Guess an optional light socket and little knick bins more important... and Stupid hood scoop, it actaully blocks (while a small part) view in front. But you can look cool pretending it does something and catch bugs with it.
I think I'll be looking for a 6spd d-cab with just the SR5 #2 or #5 package. 30k is alot for a hood scoop and a light socket in the bed. Good luck out there tacoheads.
Positives:
SMOOOOOTH ride for an Off Road package and big tires. Plenty of Power and Pep. And considering I gave the truck gas more than a few times, the ride was exceptionaly quiet! Turning radius is EXCELLENT for a truck of this size. Braking was also very good. I loved all of the storage compartments, cup holders, sunglass holders and compass. Fit and Finsh was excellent. I was wondering why people compared it to Lexus but I can see why now. The seats were VERY comfortable. Compared to my old 01 Frontier, the cabin, especially the back seat was much more comfortable. Bed was nice and has some great features built into it. The exterior look is very cool, has a very tough stance and overall look. Gas mileage is very respectable for a truck of this size and power. Color options... I LOVE the blue!
Negatives:
That back window is WAAAAY too small. Especially with the rear headrests in the way it was very hard to see out of it. For an 05, there seems to be a lack of features like optional power drivers seat, moonroof, and navigation. THATS it though, overall Im very impressed.
My goal is a completely loaded 05 4x4 Doublecab Blue, Side Airbags and all. Sticker is going to be $31,200, however Ive alread gotten dealers committing to $500-$1000 over invoice so I think I can save a few bucks in that respect. The only thing that has me hesitant is the 04 Titan. Ive driven it twice and I love it too! Its just so DAMN BIG!
- 1 silver a/c pre-runner v6, auto, sr5 pkg #5, tow hitch - msrp $23,720
- 1 dark red d/c pre-runner, v6, auto, trd off-road #1 - msrp $25,415.
they are selling them at full sticker price as i was told.
positive observations:
- roomy, comfy seats, large engine bay w/ easy access, big but definitely not as big as tundra, nice storage spaces in the back of the d/c
- epa rating for v6 auto: 18/22 but manual is only 16/21
- a/c back space is roomy but the seats are uncomfortable even for small kids. probably good for local 5 min trips.
negative observations:
- hated the color-keyed front bumper, wish some how toyota offers the chrome one in front.
- funky/confusing auto gear selector (for #4 and D gears).
- d/c came w/ rear locker and was told by saleman that it only works for speed under 5mph.
- side storage boxes in the bed don't have lock. i guess only very cheap tools can be stored there.
- no lock for remove tailgate (has anyone ever heard of a stolen tailgate or bed extender yet?). service guy told me for $50 + labor one can have an optional lock on tailgate. not sure if he's right for the 05 model though.
i quickly scan the truck equipment reference guide which was in the truck and saw in the manual trucks, the release parking brake is the old style hand lever locates somewhere underneath the dashboard, not at the center console like the nissan frontier. the guide also mentions about manual activating the 'auto limited slip differential' via a dashmounted button. what good is auto when it has to be manually activated?
i asked for the 05 tacoma brochure but they didn't have any yet.
personally i like the d/c much better than the a/c in terms of look, convienience but to get a manual tranny i'd have to get 4x4 intead of a pre-runner. that would be too much to pay just to get a manual tranny. hummmm...maybe it's better to wait until the nissan frontier come out to make the decision.
In closing I'm still very interested. **** The dealer said they won't reach regular production receipts of vehicles until end of November or December. Until then it will be a onesie twosie type of affair.
test drove a pre-runner a/c v6 manual and a d/c pre-runner auto v6, the auto seems to be faster (but could also due to my rusty stick shifting skills). somehow i felt the a/c manual was noisier than the d/c auto. wouldn't call it fast but both have decent acceleration. popped the clutch w/ the saleman sitting next to me yet he didn't say anything so that was cool.
none had vsc/trac or side/curtain airbag. was told they aren't available yet (?). 10 tacos on the lot but still not a single brochure available !
my observation of car sales guys: deal w/ the younger guys, they are less pushy, less tricky, more respectful of what you want rather than quesitioning your needs in matching up w/ their inventory.

Any word on those invoice prices?
Check it out... still missing Inovice prices though... DOH!
You don't really think the stealerships are going to let the 05 Tacos go at anything near invoice do you?
All in all a good effort from Toyota,if a bit overpriced for what you get IMHO and they will sell a bazillion of them. But with other choices out there like the full size V8 Nissan Titan(and a new Frontier on the way in two months),which can actually be had for a few grand less than the Tacoma,I would wait until the dealers are ready to deal.People won't of course and that's why they(the dealers)won't!
If you dont believe me I will forward you some of the Internet Price quotes I have recieved from dealers in Southern California. Maybe discounting differs by region, but I have a handful of dealers that are willing to sell me below MSRP. I recieved one quote on a 05 4x4 Tacoma with TRD and Tow, MSRP was $29,140, there quote was $26,800! In addition, the same dealer said that I could request any truck and if they could get it, then they would charge only $500 to $1000 above invoice, NOT MSRP.
So that is one reason I would like invoice pricing. As many know, of course if you walk into a dealer and deal with the salesmen whom scour the parking lot for uninformed customers, you will get no where fast. The key is cut out the 2 levels of sales people involved and speak with Fleet or Internet managers and you need to speak to many of them. Ive literally been in contact with at least 20 dealers regarding the Tacoma. Everyone here is saying wait 6 months to a year to buy a Tacoma... if I can get $2300 off MSRP on a truck that hasnt even hit the lot yet, Im sure once trucks start hitting lots in the next 2 weeks, there will be deals to be had. Seriously, it's not like they re-released the VW Bug after 30 years, or brought the Mini-Cooper to the states for the first time ever and both are low production. We are talking about a redesigned Pickup truck, the popular Tacoma no less, but a pickup truck redesign. If you can be patient for a few weeks, but more so smart about it, you can find yourself dealers willing to discount like I did.
Sorry for the long post, but I hope this was at least somewhat informative!
P.S. Speedway Blue is available in the 4x4 Double Cab as well and that is what I am holding out for! Fully Loaded
I'm seriously thinking of doing some car "consolidation" and selling my 96 Nissan pickup and 2001 Subaru Outback and getting a new Tacoma. I'll be perfectly happy trying to pluck an 04 off the lot in about a month UNLESS the 05's have better mileage. I don't see how (bigger truck, bigger engine), but I've heard people say they may (have higher mileage). Any scoop much appreciated!
