I saw a couple of photos on another site the other day of an '05 red doublecab and black access cab apparently in some sort of showroom...but now lost the link...anyone have it handy? Note - these were not the same toyota press release photos shown on hundreds of sites. These were actual cars going to sale.

Saw the 05 Double Cab 4x4 Sport in Winnipeg today. The pictures do not do it justice. Sat in the front and back. Lots of room and quite comfortable. Was told they will be available at dealers very soon.
For this truck it will retail for $39,000 Cdn. It's a fair chunk of cash but you get what you pay for. 5 years down the road it will be worth at least 50% more then any comparable domestic.

    "4x4 access cab manual $20700"

    When you consider
    1) this truck has nearly all the old sr5 package as standard (CD player, aircon etc)
    2) 2 access doors
    3) deeper bed (a little less payload)
    4) better fuel economy (19/23 vs 18/21)

The list price less than as my '03 4x4 with sr5, alum wheels, bucket seats, privacy glass/sliding rear window, floormats listed for about 21.3K, which I got for 18.3K.
By the way, I get about 19/23 in the '03 with a light foot, so who know what you could get out of the '05.

Not sure where Carsdirect.com got their 2005 Tacoma pricing, but it's is there for our reading enjoyment. Hopefully they are accurate, because the prices do not seem outrageous.

Those prices are OK. But with typical packages, up up and away. Still have my fingers crossed that street prices are reasonable.

A dealer in Baton Rouge called me around 1:00 and told me they had their first 05 Tacoma in today. It's a very nice looking truck. It was a 4x2 access cab, man. trans, power wind/lcks, sticker was 23,500.

Just to test the size, I also climbed in a similar '04. The new tacoma is much more comfortable, plenty of leg room and the instrument panel and armrest are a lot nicer. Just sitting in it, I couldn't help but think of the Tundra. From the outside, it's a much sleeker truck - the front end doesn't look so small and snubby and the fenders over the wheels are much more pronounced. The composite bed is a big improvement over the '04.

The only things I didn't like were 1)the radio/air cond. controls - it is a light grey with a strange texture and 2) the liberal use of plastic in the back of the cab - what's wrong with metal?

I stopped by the dealer a few days back, and they told me that they offer free maintenance on the trucks for 36K or 3 years (I believe). What I want to know, is if it matters what dealership you buy it from as to where you can use it.

In other words, if I buy from dealership A, can I get the maintenance done a dealership B? I'm part of a fleet buying program that only uses certain dealerships, and I wouldn't want to drive the distance to that dealership just to get the free maintenance every time I needed an oil change after I bought the truck.

I visited the Toyotausa site and find "the future arrives ahead of schedule" ironic given that the Tacoma by most magazines and news articles was supposed to be released in September. Here it is October 18th and most East Coast dealerships still don't really know when they will get the vehicle in-stock.

I live in Arizona and my local dealer just received its first 05 Tacoma -- a double cab, short bed with off-road and towing packages. MSRP plus $540 delivery charge totaled about $29,400. I took it for a short test drive and it was sweet. You certainly wouldn't call the back seat roomy, but the angle of the back seat made it surprisingly comfortable and leg room was adequate if the front seat is pulled up a bit.

My dealer was unwilling to consider a discount at present, so I guess I'll wait and call around over the next month or two, but I'm definitely planning to purchase one of these babies. And this configuration seems great.

    Hey everyone,

I have been in contact with many dealers in my area and Ive been getting all sorts of quotes and info. The latest I got was for a 2005 Tacoma - Double Cab - Auto - V6 - 4x4 - TRD Off Road #2 with Tow Hitch and Floor Mats.

    Manuf. MSRP = 29,140.00
    Written Quote = 26,819.00

    Discount = $2321.00 !!!

WOW, and the truck isnt even hitting till 1st week of Nov!

Just wanted to post this as a note that if all of us potential 05 buyers as a notice that maybe if we hold off a little bit and refuse to pay MSRP, the dealers may be ready to deal off the bat.

Hope this gives everyone some hope!

Be careful with these quotes... make sure you're getting exactly what you think you're getting. $2,300 discount before the trucks hit is amazing, and quite frankly, if I had a Toyota store, I wouldn't discount these at all... not yet anyway... but I would make sure I get as many people in the door as possible.

So there is a tendency for the sleaziest dealers to give the lowest quotes, and then to try and jack up the price once you're there. OTOH, a lot of the sales pros over on Smart Shopper say they pretty much ignore emails like yours, because whenever they give out a number, their price gets shopped around and they lose a sale.

So when you go, expect the best, but be prepared for the worst...

    Mathias,

Thaks for the tips and I appreciate your advice. As far as this deal goes Im not concered about losing it only because it's not the color I want.

In any event, I dont think its a bad thing for others to go out and shop for a better price because if everybody did that on a new model release instead of diving head first in and paying above MSRP, there would be better deals right off the bat.

I live in southern california and went to my local dealer and saw a white trd access cab. It was awesome! I sold my 1994 toyota pick up three months ago expecting to wait two months until the 2005's came out. It was well worth the wait.

Everything was perfect. I am 6'3 and had plenty of room, the interior was "manly" and stylish.

My only disappointment was that I could not test drive it. It was in the showroom.

Anyways, the last toyota I purchased was from toyota dealership out of Hemet California. I have called the fleet department and got a GREAT price on a 2005 double cab trd 4x2. About $23000.

My tip in purchasing... every car has a holdback included in the invoice price, which means every dealership automatically makes around $400-$600 on every car sold. Before you purchase, look up the invoice, offer your local dealer no more than $300 over invoice... Remember - you hold the cash and all the cards, if your dealership won't honor a good price.. go to another.

Hi. I was wondering if you knew when invoice pricing would be available for the 2005 Toyota Tacoma. MSRP pricing was released by Toyota last week, and I wondered about how long it took to get into your system.

    Thank you. Jason.

    Jason.

My dealership got 1 double cab red in yesterday and said they will be getting like 1 a day in. I am looking for access cab trd off road with tow package and am going to pay cash for it. I am curious on how much they will negotiate with me on it. The double cab was 29$$ something I expect to pay around 30$$. But my husband is going to another toyota dealership as I type to see if what they have in. I may switch dealerships if necessary.

I have been checking with my local Toyota dealer for the past few weeks on the arrival of the new 05 Tacoma. Was originally told first one would arrive 10/11 that was pushed back until 10/18. Went to the dealership and was told that first one should be arriving literally any minute and that there was just one on the initial shipment, double cab extended bed stickered for 31k. Went back to dealer today and low and behold the car hauler was there with 3 on the truck. A white extended cab, a white regular cab in work truck trim, and a blue TRD double cab with the extended bed. After waiting around for the hauler to unload, the truck left without making any deliveries to this dealer, not sure what is going. Impression of actually seeing the truck in person was pretty simple. It's BIG, much larger than the old Tacoma.

05 4X4 D-cab, long bed, auto, TRD Sport. Over 30K sticker, Upstate NY. Much bigger than current Tacoma, as wide as the current Tundra.
Postive: Inside well, like a 4 runner. No flaws I could see. No doubt smoothest truck I've driven, like a Lexus. The sport suspension was not stiff like I expected, truck handled comfortably, say like the Off-road suspension. If you were hoping for a 5 passenger X-runner, pulling .90g on a skidpad, you will be sadly disappointed. The long wheelbase is same as fullsize D-cab Tundra, not best for tight manuvers, but if you want over 20 mpg, carry 5 peeps and want a 6 ft bed, where else?
Negative: How did a truck 5 in wider than previous model manage to keep same width box! The little Colorado and new Dakota def have more cubic feet, both short and long beds. The Taco bed is composite inside, steel outside, in between the materials, looks like 2-3 inches empty space that could have made bed 5-6 wider altogether. Guess an optional light socket and little knick bins more important... and Stupid hood scoop, it actaully blocks (while a small part) view in front. But you can look cool pretending it does something and catch bugs with it.

I think I'll be looking for a 6spd d-cab with just the SR5 #2 or #5 package. 30k is alot for a hood scoop and a light socket in the bed. Good luck out there tacoheads.

So I finally was able to test drive the new 05 Taco Double Cab V6, Silver with TRD Off Road Package and short Bed.

    Positives:
SMOOOOOTH ride for an Off Road package and big tires. Plenty of Power and Pep. And considering I gave the truck gas more than a few times, the ride was exceptionaly quiet! Turning radius is EXCELLENT for a truck of this size. Braking was also very good. I loved all of the storage compartments, cup holders, sunglass holders and compass. Fit and Finsh was excellent. I was wondering why people compared it to Lexus but I can see why now. The seats were VERY comfortable. Compared to my old 01 Frontier, the cabin, especially the back seat was much more comfortable. Bed was nice and has some great features built into it. The exterior look is very cool, has a very tough stance and overall look. Gas mileage is very respectable for a truck of this size and power. Color options... I LOVE the blue!

    Negatives:
That back window is WAAAAY too small. Especially with the rear headrests in the way it was very hard to see out of it. For an 05, there seems to be a lack of features like optional power drivers seat, moonroof, and navigation. THATS it though, overall Im very impressed.

My goal is a completely loaded 05 4x4 Doublecab Blue, Side Airbags and all. Sticker is going to be $31,200, however Ive alread gotten dealers committing to $500-$1000 over invoice so I think I can save a few bucks in that respect. The only thing that has me hesitant is the 04 Titan. Ive driven it twice and I love it too! Its just so DAMN BIG!

Must Buy!!! I went to multiple dealerships(In Southern California) and luckily the last dealership I went to had one 05 tacoma. Start of the V6,245 HP engine made me want to take it home. I'm glad I waited to get an 05 instead of 04. Very roomy but the back seats in access cab was just like a small pillow cushion. I know that I need a DC with full back seats. I couldn't believe how beefy the truck was, amazing. Slowly but surely your local dealership should get them just ask them, thats what I did. The guy went back and pulled up the car for me to see but I could not test drive because it was the only one they had. The guy told me that most dealers should have some this week at random times during the entire day. I recommend that if you want one, ask the dealer for the exact model with options and put a $500 deposit for the vehicle. If you find a better deal then you can get the deposit back but you can use the $500 as a down for the tacoma. I have a deposit and my 05 is coming from fremont in about a week. This is the model I specified for so that is why I have to wait a week. Call dealership, test drive, and buy buy buy.

Some one test drove a double cab V6 automatic on the highway. He stated 3000 rpm at 70 mph. That seems to high for a 5 speed auto V6. Does any one notice during their test drive if there is a switch to turn the overdrive on and off?
  • 88toylc88toylc Member Posts: 53
There is no switch, but the pattern of the automatic shift lever is unusual (for me at least)allowing the new owner to think he was in Drive (with overdrive available) and actually have the car in the "4" position, which keeps the car out of overdrive. When I drove home from the dealer with my new double cab V6 automatic, I had the car in "4" when I thought I was in "D", but after reading the manual there is no problem with confusion.

toyota of huntington beach has 2 on their lot today:
     - 1 silver a/c pre-runner v6, auto, sr5 pkg #5, tow hitch - msrp $23,720
     - 1 dark red d/c pre-runner, v6, auto, trd off-road #1 - msrp $25,415.

they are selling them at full sticker price as i was told.

    positive observations:
    - roomy, comfy seats, large engine bay w/ easy access, big but definitely not as big as tundra, nice storage spaces in the back of the d/c
    - epa rating for v6 auto: 18/22 but manual is only 16/21
    - a/c back space is roomy but the seats are uncomfortable even for small kids. probably good for local 5 min trips.

    negative observations:
     - hated the color-keyed front bumper, wish some how toyota offers the chrome one in front.
    - funky/confusing auto gear selector (for #4 and D gears).
    - d/c came w/ rear locker and was told by saleman that it only works for speed under 5mph.
    - side storage boxes in the bed don't have lock. i guess only very cheap tools can be stored there.
    - no lock for remove tailgate (has anyone ever heard of a stolen tailgate or bed extender yet?). service guy told me for $50 + labor one can have an optional lock on tailgate. not sure if he's right for the 05 model though.

i quickly scan the truck equipment reference guide which was in the truck and saw in the manual trucks, the release parking brake is the old style hand lever locates somewhere underneath the dashboard, not at the center console like the nissan frontier. the guide also mentions about manual activating the 'auto limited slip differential' via a dashmounted button. what good is auto when it has to be manually activated?

i asked for the 05 tacoma brochure but they didn't have any yet.

personally i like the d/c much better than the a/c in terms of look, convienience but to get a manual tranny i'd have to get 4x4 intead of a pre-runner. that would be too much to pay just to get a manual tranny. hummmm...maybe it's better to wait until the nissan frontier come out to make the decision.

I test drove a double cab TRD w/ extended bed today. Very nice. My only complaint would be that the bed isn't as wide as I might hope (sheetrock, plywood, etc.) and I didn't find the cabin to be as dramatically quiet as some reviews have led me to believe. But the transmission and interior quality were great. Would like a sunroof, didn't see why one couldn't be added, but I've read here it is not an option. Plenty of legroom in the doublecab but my head (I'm 6ft) just knicked the back of the cab when seated b/c it slopes in a little. Also, this is being really picky, but even with the steering wheel fully upright the top of my legs were still very close to the wheel.

In closing I'm still very interested. **** The dealer said they won't reach regular production receipts of vehicles until end of November or December. Until then it will be a onesie twosie type of affair.

When will I be able to build and price the new tacoma? I want to have a list of the options and the price so I can go to the dealer with what I want and tell them to call me when they get one in. I don't know what is the hold up with toyota. If they want consumers to buy their product, they need to get the information out. Hunting season is here and I am finishing up my semester in nursing school and I want a truck to hunt in. I prefer to get a tacoma. Now ford has enough rebates on the 04 F-150 I can get the supercrew fx4 loaded for about 33,000. If they want my business, they need to hurry up. The Titan 4 door 4X4 is looking to be < 2000 more than the tacoma.
  • sigsauersigsauer Member Posts: 35
at elmore toyota in westminster, ca. saw about 10 tacos of various colors, a/c, d/c, mostly pre-runners, some are w/ manual v6 and sr5 pkgs. 1 black 4x4 , manual, w/ trd offroad pkg.

test drove a pre-runner a/c v6 manual and a d/c pre-runner auto v6, the auto seems to be faster (but could also due to my rusty stick shifting skills). somehow i felt the a/c manual was noisier than the d/c auto. wouldn't call it fast but both have decent acceleration. popped the clutch w/ the saleman sitting next to me yet he didn't say anything so that was cool.

none had vsc/trac or side/curtain airbag. was told they aren't available yet (?). 10 tacos on the lot but still not a single brochure available !

my observation of car sales guys: deal w/ the younger guys, they are less pushy, less tricky, more respectful of what you want rather than quesitioning your needs in matching up w/ their inventory.
  • triumph75triumph75 Member Posts: 14
Per previous post, drove one today and have to agree with Sigsauer that it's pathetic that Toyota has trucks on the lot and no brochures. Either update your da** website or get brochures; there is no excuse for mailing heavy vehicles faster than 8 oz. marketing materials. Reason I'm so disturbed is I would really like to know what TRD package #1 is vs. #2...#4, etc. Ridiculous. I hope that Nissan will bring much more to the table when they say their trucks will be in dealerships in December. I hope it's a full production run of vehicles and I won't have to deal with uninformed Toyota dealers with less knowledge than me who are trying to pass-off a midsized truck like it's a German or Italian-exclusive. And you're right, I could get a loaded Ford XLT 4x2 F150 Access Cab in Atlanta for 22k anytime in the next two months.

go to my edmunds and click on dealsmart. this has a place where you can build and price the 05 tacoma. it does not give the invoice price, just msrp and tmv prices. does the 05 tacomas have the trd off road package or just the trd sport packages. the sport packages and the sr5 were the only ones listed. it gives what is available with the packages also. i want the trd off road without the hood scoop if possible. without the 3,000 price tag.
  • v6tacov6taco Member Posts: 5
Hey the TRD Off-Road packages don't come with the hood scoop. The hoodscoop only comes with the Sport Packages and the X-Runner. I went down to the dealership today to order my truck and they had an Access Cab TRD Off-Road w/Towing. It was really nice and that Speedway blue is just awesome. I ordered a Black Prerunner DoubleCab with the TRD Sport Package #2 which has the towing. I am getting it for $24,801. The dealer had to locate one for me because he wasn't getting one in that color. He said there would only be 7 like mine in the whole state of Texas. That is until they hit full time production in December. He traded with a dealer in Houston so that I could get the exact model that I wanted. So sorry whoever lives in the Houston area, I just took your truck. :) Well my dealer did tell me something interesting though, he said they will be manufacturing some Tacoma's at the San Antonio plant. I don't think that is true but that is what he told me. Can anyone confirm this??

Why worry about invoice pricing on the new Tacoma?

You don't really think the stealerships are going to let the 05 Tacos go at anything near invoice do you?
  • zombozombo Member Posts: 89
Went to check out the new Tacomas and the dealer asked if I would like a test drive, why not I thought.I was impressed by the interior room and the tilt/telescopic steering wheel.Good acceleration for an auto(I prefer stick though)and a pretty smooth ride for a truck. It doesn't sit as high as the older ones, more like a Frontier now.I was disappointed in the drivers seat, which had hardly any adjustments, save the basic ones-my 94 SR5 ex cab has an 8 way adjustable drivers seat, along with retained power windows and a factory sunroof too.Sad that Toyota no longer offers these options on a $30,000 truck! The inside of the bed is made out of some kind of composit material(resin?)that is cross-braced underneath by metal. It's covered with a rubber mat which could be easily stolen and it has two small non-locking compartments on the sides ,the removable covers of which could be stolen also.More flaws,a weak 6 disc stereo(doesn't Toyota make a decent car stereo anymore?)and the lights remain on even after the key is removed. They didn't shut off until the door was opened, but since it was an auto I didn't think to depress the parking brake which might have killed the lights.

All in all a good effort from Toyota,if a bit overpriced for what you get IMHO and they will sell a bazillion of them. But with other choices out there like the full size V8 Nissan Titan(and a new Frontier on the way in two months),which can actually be had for a few grand less than the Tacoma,I would wait until the dealers are ready to deal.People won't of course and that's why they(the dealers)won't!

I was at the dealership yesterday and they had an Access Cab TRD Off Road in the Speedway Blue so i would assume you could get that color on a DoubleCab.

Why worry about invoice pricing? Because I don't plan on paying MSRP, and believe it or not there are some dealers out there that understand this and don't plan on ripping off customers. (At least the smart ones willing to work hard and do research)

If you dont believe me I will forward you some of the Internet Price quotes I have recieved from dealers in Southern California. Maybe discounting differs by region, but I have a handful of dealers that are willing to sell me below MSRP. I recieved one quote on a 05 4x4 Tacoma with TRD and Tow, MSRP was $29,140, there quote was $26,800! In addition, the same dealer said that I could request any truck and if they could get it, then they would charge only $500 to $1000 above invoice, NOT MSRP.

So that is one reason I would like invoice pricing. As many know, of course if you walk into a dealer and deal with the salesmen whom scour the parking lot for uninformed customers, you will get no where fast. The key is cut out the 2 levels of sales people involved and speak with Fleet or Internet managers and you need to speak to many of them. Ive literally been in contact with at least 20 dealers regarding the Tacoma. Everyone here is saying wait 6 months to a year to buy a Tacoma... if I can get $2300 off MSRP on a truck that hasnt even hit the lot yet, Im sure once trucks start hitting lots in the next 2 weeks, there will be deals to be had. Seriously, it's not like they re-released the VW Bug after 30 years, or brought the Mini-Cooper to the states for the first time ever and both are low production. We are talking about a redesigned Pickup truck, the popular Tacoma no less, but a pickup truck redesign. If you can be patient for a few weeks, but more so smart about it, you can find yourself dealers willing to discount like I did.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope this was at least somewhat informative! :)

P.S. Speedway Blue is available in the 4x4 Double Cab as well and that is what I am holding out for! Fully Loaded :)

Not meaning to change the subject - but what's the gas mileage supposed to be for an 05 4x4 Double Cab?

I'm seriously thinking of doing some car "consolidation" and selling my 96 Nissan pickup and 2001 Subaru Outback and getting a new Tacoma. I'll be perfectly happy trying to pluck an 04 off the lot in about a month UNLESS the 05's have better mileage. I don't see how (bigger truck, bigger engine), but I've heard people say they may (have higher mileage). Any scoop much appreciated!
