No, not yet a least, I don't know if I need too. The first time I took the truck out after the install and started gettin' on it I was not very impressed with the performance at all. Then my buddy hold me to disconnect the battery and wait a few min. and hook it back up to let the computer reset itself. After I did that it made a world of difference. I guess I don't quite understand what you mean by "reflash".
  • westeemwesteem Member Posts: 49
re 'reflash'.. Meant whether you had to reprogram your computer to account for any changes to timing, fuel injection rates, idle speed, etc. Sounds like the computer automatically detects the incease in air flow and makes any adjustments after you reconnect the battery.

Did you experience in any differences in mpg on fuel usage? I assume you are using premium octance (92).

I have a 05 Tacoma, 4wd, V 6, acess cab, TRD, SR5, auto w/tow pkg. got it in Dec. 04, has about 4,000 mi. on it now. I first notice that on hot sunny days the A/C does not get real cold. Next the A/C switch light starts to blink and the A/C does not blow cold only hot air. The dealer said it was a relay so they changed it but still not blowing cold air. They now say it's the compressor and is presently ordering it, it's been 3 wks now. I have taught auto shop and 2 of my sons are ASC certified mech. and both of them do work on auto A/C systems. Upon checking the system I discovered that there is no Drier/receiver connected in the A/C system. Now the Drier is an integral part of the A/C system, it is a filtering device that takes out any moisture or impurities in the refrigerant. Without the drier, the system will become contaminated and will cause it to fail. The drier looks like a soda can with a glass window on the top so you can see the level of refrigerant in your system. The drier is usually located in the engine compartment or in the front between the radiator and grill for easy acccess. All 05 Tacoma owners should check their truck and see if you are missing the drier. If it is missing, file a complaint with Toyota. I feel they did this to cut the cost of production of this truck! Yes my A/C did work when I first got the truck but now its dead, it is just a matter of time before your A/C goes dead. Nip it in the bud before your warranty expires. They sold us a defective product! If you think I do not know what i'm talking about, ask a mechanic who works on A/C systems!

I own the new 05 taco and am wondering about the installation of a block heater for the winters here in North Dakota??? Has anyone done this? For the last eleven years I have driven Ford Rangers and always put in a block heater to allow for faster cab heat up time. When I asked the dealer about this he told me that Toyota does not have a soft plug for the block heater.
For the record, no more Rangers in my future, this truck is great!

Thanks in advance for the info.

Block heater is available as a dealer installed option, price here in N.B. Canada is $164.00, I think (from memory). Pretty expensive, for now I am not adding it, my last truck, a 2002 GMC had a block heater, but I never used it, not even once. I am in northern New Brunswick, minus 25 degrees F is common here. No problem with cold starts in the past, Toyota's reputation and past history leads me to believe that a block heater isn't necessary, and, with good oil, I am not too worried about cold start engine damage. I may, however go to a remote starter once the cold weather arrives, allowing the truck to warm up in the driveway for five minutes or so before driving away.

Performance Products of California has this setup for the 05's. They say the gain is up to 36.5HP. It comes with model-specific tuning, is plug & play and comes with the necessary wiring harness and OE connectors. I understand the maximum HP would be with a supercharger. The cost is $840.95 USD. Anyone had any experience or know of anyone who has been involved with one of these? If the increase for the V6 is over 20HP it might be worth the expense but under that might not justify the outlay. Also, there is performance software by JET that involves taking the stock chip out and sending it to JET. They do their magic (10-13HP increase) and ship it back so the vehicle will be laid up for a while. Anyone familiar with this?
As I am from Canada there is a signifigant incease in cost but if this will make me faster than a stock Tundra it might just be worth it.

I have an 05 with the sports scoop and I have not really noticed a problem, my uncle loved my truck so much he went out and bought one, he would really like the sports hood on his.
his truck is black, what color is yours. would you like to trade?

Heres a GREAT idea, design and fabricate something that uses the existing rail system in the truck. Toyota has some stuff, but think about the possiblities. I know when I purchased my ARE hard tonneau cover, its attatched utilizing the rail system. Then after you get the idea in motion, open a web site or partner up with a company such a Tacotunes who would sell you advertising space. IF you are serious about it, let me know and I will partner up with you on it. We'll be rich in no time, new truck with not much aftermarket accessories, owners just dying to spend to customize their ride..ITS TRULY A GREAT IDEA !

The adds in the magazines were right on, this damn thing ran like bat out of hell. people couldn't believe what I did to this truck and what it when through. totally stock, Toytec lift rims and tires on the way.">

I just got off the phone with my dealer and he said that they got a bulletin on the new 2006 HP ratings. I guess Toyota has gone with a new method of testing HP ratings for their engines and most decreased in HP. Obviously the engine is still the same but the new HP rating for the 2006 Tacoma V6 will be............ 236 compared to the 245 that it is now.

My air condition also quit working last week. The dealer replaced the condenser and it has been working fine for the last week. I don't know about a drier, but I'll try and locate it. I use the AC every day in FL.
I have a 05 Tacoma 4 door TRD Sport, built in Dec 04 with 14,000 mi.
  • boone88rrboone88rr Member Posts: 194
It's not just Toyota. It's a brand new test by the SAE to stop car companies from cheating the system and padding their HP numbers.

    http://www.sae.org/certifiedpower/details.htm

    http://subscribers.wardsauto.com/....

The problem as you'll see in the second article is that it is a "voluntary" measure. So basically HP numbers mean nothing in comparisons from now on unless everyone participates or they have to disclose whether they use the new or old test.

I have not noticed a difference in my mpg at all yet. I still have not even ran a full tank of gas through her yet. But so far it looks like I'm averaging the same as I was before the install. No I'm a tight @ss when when it comes to fuel. That motor is rated for 87, and that what she gets.

I am looking at the '05 regular cab Pre-Runner, and there is only one big turn-off for me. The windows are roll-down. I could live with this, but does anyone know if there is a way to maybe install power windows, whether in a kit or not? Or can you just try and find the inner door panel from an access cab, which has the power window? If there is a way to do it but it is still cost prohibitive, I guess I will just grin and roll down my windows.
  • westeemwesteem Member Posts: 49
Are the dealers required to provide a drier with the a/c. If I am missing one, are they obligated to install one or was my purchase an "as equipped" purchase.
  • raksasasraksasas Member Posts: 2
I just started looking at the '05 models and was going to buy but they could not locate a Indigo Ink Pearl in the area of 5 state's. I do not what any other color. So I now I am waiting on the 2006 models to come out. Can anyone tell me when these are going to be hitting the Dealerships? I know i could get one in another color but I only want the dark blue.

    A quote from my dealer:

"I have ordered your truck... My early estimation is that it will be here about the 3rd week in September. That could change depending on how fast or slow Toyota is moving."

I have a 2005 V6 Access Cab...I currently have all the door panels off to replace my sound system...behind the back panel where the jumper seats are, there is a vent that I presume vents the cab when parked...I have decided to cover mine up because this is the source of the "whistling" noise that others are hearing...it is a great deal quieter when i have it covered around town...just a little fyi...
My question to you guys is about my shift knob...the whole thing vibrates a little eradictly when I'm idling at lights...if it's not the transmission mounts, then i probably am just being anal...let me know

I have been promised my 06 DC 4X4 LB TRD Sport # 2 (Iam in Southern California)
Around 12th September according to the paperwork for this particular truck (Vehicle Inquiry report) that the dealer printed out for me today, it also comes with a Tire Pressure monitoring System'
  • lonwlonw Member Posts: 29
I have an Access Cab also but have never noticed the whistling sound you heard.
I haven't looked for the vent you noticed behind the jumper seats, but it might be the cab's flow- through outlet for the heater/vent/AC system. If that is the case, when you block the vent, unless you're re-circulation switch is on, the ventilation fan may have to work harder to compensate for reduced flow in order to push air through any place else in the cab that is leakable, unless the windows are opened a bit.

Good job on talking your friend into getting a tacoma. I'm a chick myself, i've always driven a toyota 4wd since I could drive. All of them lifted with rims and tires ( i'm not a "sexy" car kind of girl). Any way, Because I live in an off roading beach area, I need really good tires and height (also 4wd), and because I travel 40 miles on highway to get to work in a totally different weather climate ( I'm in Hawaii), It's very important that I pay attention to the wear and tear of my tires and maintenance of the truck. This is my first Tacoma and I absolutely love it! If you're going to put a lift on your truck, get a set of rims and tires too. Maybe those radial tires that herkey was talking about. As for me I think I want to go with my boggers on welds. I like to see jaws drop when I come rolling in on my new wheels and a filthy muddy truck. Especially when they see a girl like me with a clean dress on step out. :) What ever you decide, good luck to you, set some pictures up so we can all check it out! ALOHA

So you guys are saying that I can order a 2006 model, now? :confuse:

    Hello all,

I have up-hill ascent control (HAC) installed on my truck and the other day I was on a steep driveway waiting to pull into traffic... When I let off the brake, my 2005 tacoma rolled back a few feet when a very loud clicking noise sounded, slip indicator light lit up and brake warning light with buzzer screamed. My question is... is this working properly? My concern is I continued to roll backwards until I re-applied the brake and the loud clicking noise. When I read the manual... it implies that the HAC is to keep your truck from rolling backwards.

Has anyone else experienced this or know if this is normal? I am asking you guys because the toyota technicians were not familiar with the system? :confuse:

Thanks in advance for your replies,

    Christy

If you want to build your own Tacoma, you can only do so in 2005 model at this moment. However, since there are no major changes coming, packages/options should be pretty much the same. So, use any web tool to build it, print it out or e-mail it to the dealer and ask him to get you the same truck in 2006 model.

My understanding is that dealerships order some trucks/cars to have them in stock on their lots. So, they will put an order for a variety of new Tacomas (Standard, Extended, DC, 4x4 etc.) When they do that they can order one that matches your specs as well, and if you don't ask for something that they can only build at the factory (120 days wait, and no guarantee of fulfilment), you'll be the one to get your Tacoma from the first batch they receive.

Feel free to correct me if my understanding/assumptions are wrong.

    Greetings,
I just finished reading all 5000 of these messages during my lunch hour.
    It took three months.
    I purchased a Black TRD Off-Road DC.
It has 6sp-MT, TRD#2, DRL, Side AB, Curt. AB, VSC, DRL, 6-Disc, TRD Mats....
    Ordered: 30 Jan, 2005
    Built: 02/05 #13
    Picked-Up: 03/20/05
    MSRP (Denver,CO):$29,950
Paid:$1000($750 after haggle) over Invoice (COSTCO Auto Buying Program)
    CO Market Value:~$31,000 (right now)
Miles as of Now:3075 (No Oil change yet)
    Ave MPG:20-21
    --------------------------------------------------------
Problems / No Problems / Other
    --------------------------------------------------------
    1. Leaf Spring Click, wear abrasions found.
    2. Out of Gear, Idle, Slow Speed, Over small road bumps(1"-2"), clicking sound
from 6spMT. I don't think it is the leaf spring click. It is more in the center of
the truck. Sounds like the MT. Could be MT mount or shaft mounts.
    3. Engine Idle Click - I use Mid or better(87 in CO), clicked for about 1500 miles.
Don't have a click anymore at 3000 miles.
    4. Loud Squeaking clutch pedal and noticeable lateral movement of pedal. Had it
replaced and lubed under warranty at 1500 miles. Replaced with same
engineered part. Beginning to squeak again. Awaiting TSB on this.
    5. No water leaks, no window noise, no brake relaxing,
    6. Deck Rail plastic ends caps keep popping off.
    7. Not told that the spare was a cheap steel rim. Found out at home after deal.
    8. No MP3 play in 6-Disc. Will try other file formats later.

(Thanks to all forum posts for some these ideas)
    1. Cabin Air Filter "Manufactured and Installed"
    2. Bed Side Lights
    3. Fog light anytime mod
    4. Ebay'd and bought a TRD OR alloy wheel for $125. Mounted spare. Now,
5 identical wheels and rims. Makes for easy Rotation. FOR SALE: Steel Rim

    Future Plans and Current Work
    ---------------------------------------------------
    1. Alarm (Mod to factory keyless or salvaged RS3200+, etc)
    2. 4WD switch light (The switch has a bulb location and a socket but the circuitry
is disabled. Also no power for light is present in the wiring harness, but pins
and circuitry suggest it, maybe for 2006. A small LED connected parallel to
the climate control lights should work for this. (LED = Less heat build up).
    3. Remote Starter. Can't live w/o in winter nights.
    4. Auto window switches for all windows(At least Front ones)
    5. Bed Cover and Locking Tailgate tied into Keyless Entry.

Thanks for the info found in this forum.

Picking up my White 06 TRD Sport DC 4X4 LB in two weeks.
I am surprised to find out there's no cargo light, does anybody know if one can be fitted? I was also considering having the TRD Exhaust system fitted at the dealership while it's there.Aside from the good looks Is it really worth it?
    Thanks
  • mtnman2mtnman2 Member Posts: 12
Picking up mine....exactly same (White 06 TRD Sport DC 4X4 LB) in ~ 3-4 weeks.....good choice on color and package combo :shades: There are some older posts on cargo light mods, try searching the forum. In addition, you can likely get any muffler shop to make you a custom performance exhaust comparable to the TRD for a fraction of the cost.

what at the spec's on your 2006.
    and what did you pay?
  • 12361236 Member Posts: 34
Paid $28.8 Plus tax & Lic Apprx 10% California!!!!
Thought I got a pretty good deal for a fully loaded 06 MSRP was $ 31.8
Specs are TRD Sport Package # 2 with Tow, Side Curtains, JBL 6 Disc & Daytime Running Lights, This one came with mats as i didn't order them originally the dealer said he would not charge me for them :)
If it's as reliable as my 00 Tundra with 200K miles I will be more than happy.

    What dealer in California?
  • bjw1bjw1 Member Posts: 152
i just put 17" rims and tires on my taco and i think it looks better, it makes the truck look more like a truck, i got 17inch mb motoring rocker rims from discount tire, with purelli tires, was going for goodyear fortera but when i showed up for my appointment they gave my tires away, so they upgraded my tires for free. :shades:

Toyota Carlsbad it's about 30 Miles North of San Diego.
Speak with the fleet service dept. Very proffesional, the only downside was I had to wait 3 months, but I would certainly deal with them again.
    Good luck.

    Hi imin2mx,
Toyota built the truck without the drier. Called the part dept. and they do not list a drier for the 05 Tacoma A/C system. They checked the schematic of the A/C system and it does not show a drier. Looks like they just eliminated it to cut production cost? Will be taking my truck in to replace the compressor tomorrow. I'll be asking them a lot of question regarding this. Hopefully this repair will last longer than 9mos. Like I explained the drier is a filtering device for the A/C, it's main function is to filter out any moisture in the system. Best case senario is Toyota does a recall and installs a drier.

Thanks for the info jabe2. I am interested in hearing what Toyota has to say. Good luck

I have the 17 inch clear coated rims on my Double Cab 4x4 long bed with T.R.D. package # 4. Was thinking of making them my winter rim. Do they offer good winter tires for this size rim?
  • raswankraswank Member Posts: 56
I have had a 1998, a 2001 now a 2005. Are the lug nuts all the same, you know with built in washers on them. Or shanks like the dealers call them.
  • raswankraswank Member Posts: 56
Has anybody used the Taco Tunes dash kit. And if so how good would you say it was. Also I have the double cab. Would you recommend the 6x9's up front or do both front and back 6 1/2's with sub behind rear seat. And my final question would be. Idea's on speakers. Say up to 400.00 each for front and back.

Just got word that Fold-A-Cover will be releasing their 4-Fold Hard Tonneau Cover mid-part of September 2005. Their website is www.fold-a-cover.com to find out the latest information. From whom I spoke with it works right with the Trac System...sounds like a good deal to help improve my Tacoma! Any comments about Fold A Cover in general???
  • aztacoaztaco Member Posts: 36
I live in the desert, Phoenix to be exact, and it has been between 100 - 117 degrees since I got the truck (May 24th) and the AC freezes me out. I drive 13 miles to get home, it's 110 outside and I have to turn the AC down half way home. I was in Vegas in July, 121 degrees, and the AC had no trouble keeping me cold. Best AC of any vehicle I have owned. I have an 05 access cab, 4X, V6 with 6500 miles.
Maybe Toyota got rid of the AC drier, they got rid of the auto transmission dip stick!

I emailed Toyota asking about the dryer. Here is their response:

"The new Tacomas have an integral receiver/dryer tube on the side of the condenser, instead of a separate "tank". The air conditioning operation will perform consistently as previously available Toyota conditioning systems.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #200509020368."

I guess we'll see how well it holds up!

Just bought one today from the toyota dealership. They are selling the Stant 11506 as their locking gas cap for the 2005 Toyota Tacoma. They say there is no Toyota brand for this truck. So it must be safe as a replacement, and a locking one to boot! It looks very much like the original. Tried it and it fits perfectly.

    Hello,

Just bought an 05 Tacoma and am looking to see if anyone knows who sells a grill guard? I live in deer country and would hate to mess up my nice crome grill! Also, is it true that there is no automatic transmission dipstick? How do you check the fluid?
