one of my wife's 2 favorites from the car show (along with the X3). Actually 3, she also liked the Porsche Cayenne.

If she does want the Volvo, we would do a Euro delivery vacation to pick it up.

Saw a new Charger today, white, rental
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
Saw a silver '12 Focus while down in Salado, TX this weekend. It was in sedan flavor, not too bad looking either. I'd have to go with the hatch myself for the extra cargo room and IMO better looks.

Last Friday in Burleson, Tx, saw a light gold '11 Durango with dual exhausts. Absent of HEMI badging. I have to say that I REALLY liked it, perhaps better than the new Grand Cherokee.

Saw a non-rental QX56 - what a hideous mess, I have to question the mental capacity of anyone who would buy one - money and taste, often a negative correlation. Just before that saw a new M37/56, which underwhelms. Also saw a rental E-class probably from Hertz prestige fleet, and a new 5er on a car carrier
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
I forgot to add: Saw a Chevy Volt down in Salado also. It was dark red and really looked okay with dark tinted windows. As it drove by all you could hear was tire noise.

    Mazda2
    Mazda5
    Millions of Suzuki SX4s
    Millions of Toyota Yarises
    Millions of Mitsubishi Outlanders
    Millions of Mitsubishi Outlander Sports
    BILLIONS of Mitsubishi Lancers

Half the cars there are Mitsus. Seriously.

I would not be surprised if 20% of the cars Mitsubishi now sells are in Puerto Rico, given how few they sell in the continental USA.

We rented a Lancer for a day trip, from San Juan, along the coast eastward, then down to Fajardo. Not bad but not as scenic as I'd hoped.

Car was OK, nothing special. CVT took getting used to, it lags at first, then revs up high and sits there, motorboating at high rpm. Steering was both artificial and heavy, as if they were trying to make it bad. Lots of tire noise. Bare bones model had lots of cheap plastics, but the seats were comfy and it cost next to nothing ($30 for the day with tax included).

Got 25.4 mpg, not bad but I expected better.

Cute car, but it's literally only the shell of an EVO.

When I was in Puerto Rico in 1992, they had a million Mazda MX-3s.... which sold almost zero on the mainland... PR is weird, that way...

The trip across the mountains to Ponce on the south coast is pretty scenic....

I saw one of those, funny. Paint falling off, faded to shreds, but still running.

Actually lots of older cars that were falling apart, but still going. Corollas, Protoges, Civics, etc.

I didn't expect to rent a car, but got a wild idea and just ran with it. Should have planned more and asked folks here where to go...

MX3 coupe (Precidia) also sold by the zillions in Canada, yet are very rare in the US.
  • fushigifushigi Member Posts: 1,459
I had a '93 MX-3 GS with a 1.8L V6. Great little car except the trans needed to be replaced every 38K miles. :surprise:

I still see the occasional MX-3 around here (Chicago suburbs) though sightings are rare - less than once every month or two.

Saw a new Elantra today - they are kind of big. Rental. Also a facelift Range Rover sport douched out on black wheels, along with a red R8.
  • iwant12iwant12 Member Posts: 269
You know, at first I was appalled at this CUV. Now, after seeing quite a lot of them on the road, it's not's so polarizing. Still can't get over the fact that it, and many, many vehicles, are FWD.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Saw a QX56 today, hideous in a hideous color...I don't know what to call it, maybe "light eggplant". Who would buy one of these?

    Also a new Focus, rental.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
3 Sonatas today, all at the same time. In front of me, behind me, and to my side. The one on the side was a turbo, saw the subtle label on the decklid.

Also saw a new Kia Optima.

Saw 2 new Elantras while at the beach in Ocean City, MD, as well as a Juke.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
I've seen 2 of the new Lexus Sportcross .... uhhh... I mean... whatever its called now. Pretty good looking car in person, actually. Too bad they made it so slow.

    CT200h?

The commercial for it is neat, my son likes the beat of the music.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
ummm... well, yes. With a completely uninteresting and anonymous name like that, I had to look it up to confirm.

    Are they slow?

I thought they were tuned for more get-up-and-go vs. the Prius powertrain they're based on.

Then again it's the same basic powertrain carrying 400 lbs extra soft-touch materials. (not really, it's a different platform actually)
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
exactly. Same powertrain, more weight. Edmunds says its .3 secs slower to 60 than a Prius.

10.3 seconds isn't quick, for sure, especially nowadays, but anyone who calls that slow ought to take a spin in a Smart ForTwo or my old 1986 Chevy Sprint.

    0-60?

    Yes. Eventually.

*If* you're going down a hill.

Hybrids don't feel slow at all because the electric engine hits peak torque at zero rpm, so they actually step off nicely.

I think it has more to do with how they're driven...
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
I've seen a couple of the new CT's as well. Looks decent in person, if it had AWD, I would consider it.

But are you considering either of those cars right now? Sure, we've all had slower cars. Its a new day, though. No need to suffer anymore. ;)

New Camaros are selling quite nicely in New Hamster. Two days running I've seen two different ones in a high-viz neon metallic green.

Well, the Smart is an alternative "city car", if you will.

Odds are many buyers are moving up from a Prius, so it will seem normal to them.

I drive a minivan that's probably quicker than most muscle cars were back in the day, so I'm not suffering at all. :shades:

Saw an SLS parked on the street here in DC, near Farragut North.

Oddly enough, then I saw a Ferrari F360 Modena, pulling out and driving past it.

Not a very common sight, much less back-to-back!
  • tifightertifighter Member Posts: 3,785
Brand new Leaf drove past me Saturday. Yep, it makes an odd sound.

Saw a new E550 convertible, nice.

Then a 5 series sedan, also nice.

Then a 550 GT, yuck. You just can't love the swollen bulge look (also the X6, ZDX, Panamera).

White Elantra with temp tags, nice.

    3/4 ain't bad. :shades:

I have to wonder about what makes one buy a GT.

Saw one of those weird new Nissan vans parked at the dealer.

Oh yeah, Sunday I saw a facelift (LEDs) GL pulling a utility trailer. Rare sight, a working posh poser SUV.

You mean the new Quest, or the upcoming NYC Taxi?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
    This thing:

I have seen a new quest too, made me feel sick
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
That van is a beast. Much bigger than what NYC is getting.

In white, IMHO not its best color by a long shot. Makes the C-pillar stand out too much.
  • cheezhedcheezhed Member Posts: 44
    Wow, that's a perfect meat-wagon.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Let me try to remember them all, hmmm...

Fiat 500 - a dealer had half a dozen of them displayed at the Kentlands Parade on Saturday.

Also saw an Orange Camaro convertible. First Camaro I could see out of.

And my first in-person Chrysler 200 convertible. Is it me or has the back seat shrunk? I remember Sebrings having roomy back seats in the past.

I think that's what they are called, the new minivan thing.

I did a double-take and wondered if it had diplomatic tags, but couldn't tell. Are they for sale already?

This and the Mazda5 are the only true MINIvans left, since the Kia Rondo was dropped.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
Speaking of the Mazda 5, I saw a dark blue one on my way home from the store yesterday.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Funny that they launch it with the old styling lines down the sides just as they come out with concepts showing they will change styling direction.

I liked the outgoing one more. Plus the USA never got power sliding doors or AWD, like the JDM models get.

Mazda doesn't put much effort behind it here.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,348
I thought they weren't coming out until the fall? I am very interested in this, since it could be a perfect fit. Especially if they surprise me and bring it over with a 6 speed stick.

the new 2.0l engine (NA) and the stick should be a nice combo of excellent FE and plenty of scoot.

It may have been a diplomat's gray market import. Unfortunately I looked for tags but it was moving in the other direction.

The size of that greenhouse is what stands out. LOTS of glass.

    Thumbs up.

I saw an "article" about the C-Max in my Sunday paper.... you know, the syndicated car section that's in most papers, now? Along with Click and Clack columns?

I'll have to drag it out of the recycling.. dang it!

    Warren Brown?

His reviews are sort of soft, he likes most everything he drives.

I saw a new '012 Ford Focus on the highway, a black five-door. Not a bad looking car, it reminded me a little of a Citroen C4.

Not that anyone would notice but I had no idea there was a refreshed Corolla out there. Seeing a bunch of them lately. And from a distance they look a bit more upscale than before but again, it's a Corolla so I'm not sure anyone would really care, lol
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Huge amounts of them in the fleets around here
