Saw a lime green Fiesta this AM. Oddly, a color I'd probably find horrendous on certain cars actually kinda works on the little Fiesta.

Also saw a be-striped Mini Cooper Clubman.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Yes, I agree completely on the Fiesta. That weird color works on it. Not many other cars that could get away with that but on the Fiesta it works.

I'm sure in part because it's small. A large SUV or minivan in that color would simply look ridiculous.

My first sighting in the wild... I'll take that over a Juke! (assuming I have an extra $10K)

Fun Juke review in the NY Times.
A Design So Far Out It Just Might Be In.

It's just so incongruous, unbalanced, awkward...it might be fine to drive or ride in, but to look at...no, just can't do it.

    >but to look at...no, just can't do it.

Ahhh, good. Now there's something beyond the Aztek for people to make fun of as an unattractive car.

The Equinox is so much cleaner, nicer looking.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
All 3 very popular around here. I see them daily now.

One thing I don't think I've seen yet is the new BMW X3, and that's odd because usually cars like that sell very well around here.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I've seen a few in my area...all I can say is "meh".
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
The Aztek will always get a laugh. Different type of ugliness - that one the type where it looks like multiple poorly skilled designers worked on a car. The Juke is one hallucinating drug addict designing a car.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
isn't licking a frog supposed to be hallucinogenic? And the Juke looks like a bullfrog so... :D

I'd much rather have the Sportwagon in Antarctic Blue, but that [non-permissible content removed] dealer crushed my Vista Cruiser!
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I know what happened, it didn't come in :shades:
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Licking toads might just explain that thing
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
As soon as I say I've never seen one, an X3 pops. First on the streets. Looks OK, but oddly enough it seems smaller than the old one (I know it's not).

So this guys pulls next to my Miata, towering over my car, and it's a ..... MINI. LOL

That thing is tall, wow. A lot taller than the Accord that was in front of him.

Must give up a lot in handling compared to a regular Cooper.

Edit: had to look it up:

    regular Cooper is 55" tall
    Accord is 58"
    Countryman All4 is 61.5"!

    Yikes.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Per the data I found, that's over 4" taller than my E55 and 2" taller than the fintail. What's Mini about it, again?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,617
    Honda CR-V = 66.1"

    Acura RDX = 65.1"

    VW Tiguan = 66.3"

    MINI Countryman ALL4 = 61.5"

That's the competition.... not sedans or other MINIs...

    Guess so!

The Juke and Outlander Sport, too. Lemme look those up...

    Juke - 61.8", about even
    Outlander Sport - 64.2"

So I guess in that context it's OK. Just strange to look UP to a MINI. :D
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Have you ridden in a Mini - I think they ride similar to a city bus, you feel every bump.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Strangely enough, no, I have not!

Saw a new Durango, in white, coming home this afternoon. I have to say that I liked it! Much smoother looking than the last model. And it had dual exhausts! Have you noticed Dodge isn't putting the Hemi badges on the new Durango nor the Grand Cherokee? Mind games . . . ? Perception?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    edited March 2011
Hemi became a bad word when gas hit $4 a gallon.

In fact, I think it hurt Dodge that they put so much of their marketing effort behind the Hemi engine. Gas went up, sales tanked. And they had no Plan B.

Now they market Ram instead, in fact they branded all trucks Ram, even the Grand Caravan work vans.

PS I like the Durango a lot better, too, but that NAV screen is too small this day and age
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Another one with temp tags. Looks nice in black, too, but good luck keeping that clean.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I think we can officially start referring to post-beak Acuras, at least when it comes to the TSX.

Saw one out in the wild and it looks so, so much better. Not pretty, but it's no longer got that giant chrome pimple on its nose.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I see those all the time around here now, usually at Whole Foods etc parking lots. Competition for the RX I guess.

I saw an odd beaky TL yesterday - someone had painted or taped over the chrome, trying to hide the design.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I think the fact that there are many aftermarket grilles for sale tells you what many think of the beak.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
A few newbies today - new style A8, another Leaf, different from the one I have seen before, another new Cayenne (every one I have seen has been driven by a high maintenance looking woman), and I saw my first Volt on the road this evening.

Wish'd they'd put a slushbox in it...I did like the car when I sat in one while gettin' the Versa's oil changed a few weeks back. Would eventually like a small car with better seating for my spinal issues which I can just slide over into...just like my girl's Versa! But with more goodies to play with. My next ride will be my last one & I do want it to be "FUN" with some upscale stuff included...have always let $ and mileage be the parameters in choosing but this last time I'm doing it just "for me & me only"! It'll be "dad's toy" to live out his last years in. Won't be lookin' till at least an 2015 model though as I just hit 31k in the Civic & with my new driving style, doubt I'll even have 45k by then! :)

    The Sandman :) :shades:

You don't like CVT? It's weird for a weird vehicle...sounds perfect to me.

If you want a nice comfy car, upscale, not too huge or pricey, and Nissan based - maybe Infiniti EX?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
That EX is a good size, but that V6 is quite a bit, both in power and gas use. Course, Edmunds Inside Line manages to get only 20 mpg with their Juke! On premium! Amazing!

...gold Mustang GT with white striping travelling west on Rhawn Street near Tabor Avenue in NE Philly this morning.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Still had temp tags. I like it a lot better than the previous Dame Edna model, that's for sure.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
An actually Volt out on the roads last week. Couldn't get close enough to see what kind of plates though. They looked funny might have been factory plates.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    535i.

Q5. See those all the time now.

    New Honda Oddity.

    Juke.

    New E-class.

By far the best looking of that bunch is the Q5.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I see the F10 5er a bit now, but the region's busiest BMW dealer is just a couple miles away. Several new Es and Q5s too.

I've seen 3 Volts on the road now, a few Jukes and Odys.

I saw many (rental) Optima in the southeast a few weeks back, still haven't seen one locally.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
Neighbor has an F10 5er, but he gets new BMWs all the time with 'dealer' plates, not sure which dealer...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Odd that I have yet to see a Volt or a Leaf, and I'm in DC.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
DC was like a test market for the Leaf right?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
Oh yeah, I've seen 2 of those as well.

Blends into traffic more than a Volt, to me.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I'm not sure, and it's weird because DC is Prius headquarters.
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
...new silver Lincoln MKz at work. Somebody must've bought it this weekend as it still has the window stickers and dealer's/manufacturer's crayon marks on the glass.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw a new BMW X3 parked in the GW University campus area.

Not as elegant as the Q5.

    Also spotted a Chevy Cruze.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
Finally starting to see Q5 around here, I agree, better look than the new X3. What has surprised me is the large number of Tiguans I'm seeing. I like the Q5 quite a bit more.

And the odd sighting: 2 smarts, identical color (red/black) within a block of each other. Maybe some company cars? But no adverts on the sides...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Funny thing is VW folks insist they are not related. The Tig is a Golf clone while the Q5 is supposedly A4 based.

They're so similarly sized it's hard to tell.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,107
    edited April 2011
I guess they're cousins, given all the Audi/VW part sharing that goes on. They do a good job of avoiding direct overlap, seems they alternate in size:
    Q3
    Tiguan
    Q5
    Touareg
    Q7
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah but they all feel like smallish mediums. Except the Q7.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Yesterday was a really nice day here. Driving at lunch time spotted a guy in a new Camaro convertible - black with a black top which was down. That car looks loads better as a convertible - especially sans top.

Meanwhile i saw some guy driving a third generation Accord. He may have had as much open exposure through the rust as the guy in the Camaro had with topless deal.
