I've had my 250/ps/4wd/cc/lb for one week now. I drove to the city did not have any trouble parking. I did notice that it was a little tight at times. I financed through my dealer at 7.09% through Chase Manhattan bank with nothing down. If I would have put $5,000 down the rate would have been 6.94%. The only problem I've had is that the driver door doesn't open some cold mornings from the outside. I have to open the rear door and then get the driver door open from the inside. I will get the dealer to adjust the latch.
jraske...I did export these instructions to a WORD file and can email them to you if needed, haven't tried the fix yet, but might give it a try after finals are over. kgrantc...you might try a ZIEBART dealer for the RHINO liner...that is where I had mine done just a few hours from you in Bloomington/Normal. Had RHINO for about one month now and love it!! Have referred to other people to the same dealer and both have been VERY happy with the results. Heck, might even be worth the drive down here if you can't find someone up there. Rhino does have a website in which you can locate a dealer. I think the site is RHINOLINER.com, or close to that. Gofordgo...the priority level is the "rating" the factory gives to the order. The lower the number you get the better. I believe it was stated in a previous post that the best a dealer can assign is a priority "10". Anything lower, I belive a regional/district rep has to approve/input into the system.
Not being able to get in the driver's door would be frustrating. The good news is that it's not cold weather issue. I live in Alaska and don't have any problems. The dealer should be able to fix whatever is wrong.
Line-X has a dealer locater on their website at www.line-x.com.
jraske, you may have pulled up next to a sports car and didn't know it. Next time you get to a red light, hop out and look under the truck.
agree with you on viperle issue. will completely ignore his (doubt very seriously that this entity is female) input henceforth. Crazyelvis seems to have it correct afterall (as viper's completely clueless in regard to my "engineer" point that I was attempting to convey). oh, well. stick to the truck issues.
sprintnut... 2 months since order & still no schedule? that looks like an allocation issue. did you receive an actual copy of your DORA? as "hot" as these trucks are, though, should you abandan the ship at this juncture? what is the dealer's attitude? if it's don't give a damn-like (as you seemed to indicate) that makes it a really tough call. if you're chomping at the bit like most of us you don't want to throw 2 months away. I'd talk with the dealer (possibly go to the sales manager or perhaps even the owner). try to get some honest answers in regard to allocation. let them know that you are well informed about such issues. kind-of "feel them out". also, if you decide to walk from the deal... your deposit ought to be refundable. personally? I'd walk if my overall "gut" feeling was that I'm being "jacked around". there are many great dealers out there. people that are doing their damnest to make you a "happy camper". but like everything in life, there's always the "other" side present. some on this site have gotten scheduled within a week of placing their order (it took about 2 1/2 weeks from order to scheduled for us). so if you find a dealer that does have good allocation (best if you go with a truck only dealer) you may not wait much longer even if you walk... as there's no guarantee that the truck will get scheduled thru your present dealer any quicker).
crazyelvis... time is getting closer for us. the vopc is no longer updating our truck... (they "lost" it over the holiday) for some reason. Ken didn't call them because Gator already had the invoice in hand for the truck (and therefore the vopc dudes remain unaware that anything is wrong in regard to updates). so we don't really know where the truck is right now. but... it ought to be sitting in the same rail yard yours was in as the truck left the factory a couple of weeks ago. Ken says most trucks get to the dealership about 7-10 days after they receive the invoice for it. they've had the invoice since last Tuesday (a week) so we are looking for the beast any day. is your truck wearing a "Gator" emblem? as long as they don't bore any holes, we'd like to display their emblem in our area... kind-of tells the admirer's where it came from (because they sure the hell ain't going to get it around here!).
After 5 weeks waiting for an optimistically expected and hoped for 8 week delivery, and solid "clear and unscheduled..." on the VOPC, I decided to check with my salesman. He checked with VOPC - the real person side - and reported that the holdup is the audio, not the V10. I just recently changed to the top of the line - AM/FM Cassette with the CD - so that I can add an aftermarket 6+ CD changer and not have it not be the FM type (poor sound quality I've been told with the FM type). Says these items are hot and they can't get enough right now. I think references to the fire in the V10 factory are old and were previously reported here to be false. If I recollect correctly, the fire was in a V8 plant, but I may be off the mark.
Estimated delivery date is 10 Jan 00. So, yes indeed it does look like they will be real busy after the Holidays as others above are looking for theirs around the same time period.
I would tell them to drop the audio (except the speakers) if they give me a $$ credit and I could get earlier delivery. Then I'd get a system on my own after delivery.
On order w/DORA of 11/2: F350 CC auto V10 4x4 3.73LS LB SRW
Brutus, when you have used your block heater have you noticed any noise when plugged in?? I plugged mine in tonight just to see that it worked properly (need to be ready since our Iowa winter will eventually get here), and I noticed a very rapid tick. titititititititititititi. I can also feel the coolant being pumped through the rubber hose going from the top of the radiator to the engine block. When I squeaze (gently) the hose the noise fluctuates lower, as though there is more resistance on a pump. Let me know. Just want to be sure before I take it in to have it looked at.
Update on various stuff. My y2k f250 cc 4x4 v10 lwb now has 95 miles. This truck is outstanding. Regarding the CD player stereo, I am very impressed. I like the layout and feel of the controls and the sound quality is very good. The vehicle ride is vantastic, very smooth even unloaded. The V-10 engine noise is a little more than I had hoped for on acceleration but is quite reasonable during crusing. The power is outstanding. The telliscoping mirrors are great and the blind spot mirror is very usefull. especially during backing up into tight spaces. Thats all for now... Oh yea. it was definitely worth the wait. (4 months)...newman
I have discovered a problem with my trucks cab heater. whenever it started getting cold outside my feet would get cold inside. I have figured out that the dial that directs the heat has no impact on where it actually goes. In other words my defroster is always on and I can't change it. Has anyone else had this problem? This is problem #2 my headlight (bulb and internal fixture) fell out a month after I picked it up. "I STILL LOVE THIS TRUCK" T4F
I also spotted this rather expensive Ford after market device in the accessory catalog. Looks like a big Thermos bottle that stores cooling system heat for a couple of days and releases it when you start up the truck. If it wasn't so D*#@ expensive, this might be a good thing. Advantages would be electricity savings (couple hours/day) and the fact that it works everywhere, including the parking lot at work. MAJOR disadvantage over the block heater: I don't think your engine block stays at all warm at night, the heats all in the "bottle." So, while your feet will get a blast of warm air sooner, your PSD won't benefit from this thing much on cold mornings. I'd like to hear from someone that actually has one.
Hey Guys - After lurking here for about a month, I went out and ordered a SuperDuty today!
2000 F250 Lariat, CC, 4X4, PSD with all the goodies!
The dealer is supposed to fax me a copy of the DORA by the end of the week. He assured me that he would put the order in with a priority of 10.
For those of you looking to order - the Edmunds "how to buy" advice says get to the fleet guy if you can. I was able to get to the fleet guy by accident - I sent email to three different dealers asking for a quote on one a truck. At each dealership, the Fleet Guy, who also happens to be the Internet Sales Guy, answered my inquiry.
Question for those of you who ordered in the past: When I got home this evening, I was looking over the "Vehicle Order Confirmation" that the fleet guy ran while I was there to get the pricing right, and I noticed a line item called either PDAP Assessment or FDAF Assesment (I cannot quite read the letters). The charge is $160. Anyone know what this is for?
The dealer I went through (Sound Ford, near Seattle) is reputed to do a large volume of trucks, so I am hoping to get a good turn-around on my order!

I think the assessement has something to do with an advertising charge. I do not think that everybody gets charged this, it varies by area/dealer. I do not believe I was charged (my paperwork is at home so I can't check right now).
Ordered 250 CC SB 4x4 Lariat on 9/25 and supposed to be here week of 12/27.
After assuming all along that my garage door height is 7 foot, I measured it last night and it turned out to be 80 inches to the plastic weather stripping. Looked at the Ford literature and the closest thing I could find is a 350 4x4 that measures in at 79.8 inches. However, the information doesn't say anything about the size of tires.
HHHHeeeeelllllppppp!!!! Does anyone know what the actual height (measured versus info in a brochure) is from top of cab to floor of a 250 CC 4x4 short bed with 265 tires? I didn't order the clearance lights thank goodness.
The beauty of the internet is that when you screw up bad you don't have to look around to see if anyone saw. I did borrow a SD CC SB before I ordered to see if it would fit in the garage and it worked fine ... only problem was it wasn't a 4x4 with the extra height.
Guess I could just leave it loaded to lower it or raise my garage because I sure don't want to let this baby go.
Thanks for the gear splitter info...will pass it along to my neighbor..... Lewac.....Yes they put a silver looking dohickey on the back by the ford emblem....and you get a license plate holder....FREE!!! I think the thing on the tailgate can be removed easily....I think it looks alright so I haven't taken it off...it has thier logo...little gator and the words gator ford....I have seen some BIG trucks around that they sell.....dump trucks etc....they have actual vinyl letters for the logo...and they are placed in the rear and up on the doors or the front quarter panels...... And Viper....who is he??? ignore....hmmmmmmmm...that shouldn't be to hard!!
I just picked-up my 2k F-250,SD,4x4, 265s with the clearance lights. I have the same problem. I did not measure the height of the truck yet, however the brochure reads 80.4 inches or 6.7 feet or 6 feet 8.4 inches.
Unless there is something wrong with my math above, I think you might want to consider increasing the height of your garage door opening. My truck is currently parked at another facility while my carpenters work on my garage. It's not fun at all...........but should be well worth the comfort.
If you measure yours let me know what you get. It will be interesting to see if we come up with the same answer.
Picked up front and rear mudflaps from my dealer yesterday (early xmas present from in-laws). Took me a whopping 20 minutes to install and they look great. Hardest part was using a drill on my baby, but only on the rubber fender inner-liners.
The FDAF is something relatively new, started last year I believe. It's a dealer advertising fee, I'm sure all the salespeople are aware of it. I might suggest that they conveniently forget to mention this fee at the negotiating table in some cases. Either way, all the consumer groups and this forum in another topic talk about it, no agreement amongst them, except the bottom line - everythings negotiable. So if it really bothers you try to work it out with your salesperson.
Thanks for the info and the shoulder to cry on. If worse comes to worse, I could re-order, wait another 3 months, and get a 2 wheel drive version. I don't really need the 4x4. Just never had one and wanted to reward myself for the first time in my life. After making it through VietNam, 2 grown boys, a wife of 26 years and turning 50, I just thought I'd take a ride on the Wildside. Thanks again....
Block heater - I've been plugging mine in at night because it gets cold where I live in Colorado. As Brutus mentioned, the heater works right away. When I start it plugged in the temperature gauge is at the bottom of the normal zone. When I start it at work (not plugged in) the temperature gauge is below 'C' and it takes quite a while for the heater to work.
Noise - interesting that someone would ask. I rolled down my window at a light to see if my PSD sounded any different and I didn't hear any more noise with the window down than up. It does seem to run quieter once it is warmed up. Also, it runs real quiet down hill. Its just a little loud up hill but it definitely moves up hill!
I purchases my MX cap in Ionia, Michigan, a small town between Lansing and Grand Rapids. My price was $1154 installed. It has no liner in it. I only ordered it with two handles on the rear door and the frameless flipper windows. It looks excellent. No doubt that it's worth the money. My rear door glass is framed, though. Dealer told me that A.R.E. has had several problems with the frameless door glass breaking and it's only warranted for one year. He said he wouldn't reccomend it unless you want to buy a new one or two down the road. Too much stress for such a big piece of glass, I guess. I had another price from a dealer in Grand Rapids that was $1124, but I stayed closer to home where I know the dealer's reputation is good. I get comments on the truck, cap combo all the time. It's them sports car drivers that keep looking up at my SD! 1250 miles, still around 13.1 mpg.
Took our truck out to the Christmas tree farm last Saturday. Good baptism for such a truck. We always cut our tree down and traditionally the family yells "timber" when it falls. (Couldn't make any snow angels or throw snowballs, though.) My point is, however, that we also always listen to Christmas music on this trip (in addition to stopping for hot cocoa and fresh doughnuts). Had the CD player going the whole time running through the fields; bouncing all the way and not a single CD error. Unreal!
I'm pretty sure that I had a FDAF charge on my truck. It was less than $100, but that was last year. I was told it was a Ford ad fee from the factory that gets assessed to each vehicle. However, if some people are not getting charged this fee, then it might be a dealer fee. I don't see the dealer eating a factory pass-through fee. It would make sense if the factory passes an ad fee through to the consumer via the dealer invoice.
I've been plugging block heaters in so long that I never really spend long enough to listen. I'm pretty sure there is some sound when you first plug it in. I could be wrong, but I think it works, kind of, like a thermostat. It's only on when the engine is not at a certain temp. The manual says that you only need to plug it in for a couple hours, but it also says that the engine won't overheat if you leave it plugged in overnight. The ideal situation is to plug it into a plug that is connected to a light switch in the house. That way you can turn it on from inside.
On the subject of block heaters, up here in Anchorage, we actually have commercials that encourage you to plug in your vehicle. It's for environmental reasons. Our air quality isn't as good in the winter because people let their cars idle and warm up before getting in. Auto-start systems are real popular up here. They run about $500 on average. I would own one if I could justify the cost. Instead I just put on my coat and sprint outside about 10 minutes early to start the truck. I do this even when I plug it in. The heat may crank out right away when it's plugged in, but that doesn't change the fact that on a morning like this morning, it's still only -5 in the cab and the windows are iced up. 10 minutes later, it's nice and warm and the windows are clear.
My CD player has worked great. I have been able to get it to skip occasionally, but it takes a good bump, like crossing a railroad track at hwy speeds.
It's been clear and bit cold the past few days, but gorgeous. On my road trip Monday, I saw Denali (Mt. McKinley to those of you in the lower 48) for hours. It was awesome with the sun reflecting off it and the blue sky behind it. When the sun set, the mountain turned pink. Just another day in paradise.....
I called the Fleet guy at the dealer today and asked him about the FDAF fee. Sure enough, as you guys said, it's an advertising fee. He said that the fee comes from Ford and is just passed through by the dealer. I guess I believe him, since the fee was on the order confirmation that he printed straight out of the Ford order entry system.
It's $160 on my truck. Since I got a decent deal ($400 over) to start with, I am not going to get excited over it.
Just gonna sit back and hope my truck gets here soon...
Still need more info from you. Auto or stick? 2x4 or 4x4? What's your most current milage and latest MPG. I'll have an acurate reading to share soon. Truck is in Ford body shop getting a shipping scratch taken care of. 1/2 tank left before fillup and MPG check. Mine is 250 SC LB SRW 5.4L 4x4 auto 4.10LS. Interested to see difference between gearing as effects MPG.
Now I thought if you got larger diameter tires your gear ratio would change to the negative. Example: change from 31" tires to 32" - change from 4.10 to 3.73 ratio or thereabouts. Now check out this site (www.azstarnet.com/~zil/suburb/gearcalc.htm) Plug in some sizes and it says the ratios grow more positive with larger tires. Which is correct????
I had the same heater problem after about 30k on my 99sd. I brought it to my dealer and they replaced the switch control it is working great again. But it stinks losing your truck for the day. Good luck
hey guys I just orded a 250 CC Lariat sb 3.73 5.4l I am wondering what the differance is in 3.73 of 4.10? What is acceleration like with either? Would it be better with the 4.10 LS ? How is the gas milage with either combination? I still have time to change my order so I need all the feedback I can get
The block heater does have a "hum" to it and it's normal. We leave ours rigs plugged in always (it's 30 below today) and unplug after startup. But I've never experienced them cycling on and off.
I TOO ORDERED A 250 SC 4X4 LARIAT WAS TOLD TO EXP IT THE MID OF JAN. THE FEE WAS 165 IN NEW YORK. I TOLD THE DEALER TO ORDER IT WITHOUT ANY FORD EMBLEMS ON IT,OR THE COMPANY CAN PAY ME FOR ADVETISING,AFTER ALL IT IS MY TRUCK BOUGHT AND PAYED FOR. WILL SEE WHAT HAPPINESS.
Ok, I couldn't go a day without driving it so I went to the gas station and the video store. 17.19 mpg on my first 387 miles (22.513 gallons). 2000 F350, PSD, 6SPD, LB, SC, SRW, 4WD, 3.73, 265 A/Ts & No Bed Cover. This is a mixture of about 25% city 75% highway but a good deal of 4WD because we've been hit with several storms lately. I haven't been taking it real easy either because I haven't had this much power in a long time. I need to feel those occasional bursts of power!
This is probably isn't your heater problem, but it's worth a look before you take it to the dealer. Last January, my feet were also getting cold. I found out that there was no heat coming out when I switched it from defrost to heat. Turns out that there is a wire under the dash on the passenger side that has a plug that connects the two wires. My passenger had accidently hit with his foot, which unplugged the plug and disonnected the wires. All I had to do was plug them back together and I had heat.
I don't know that the block heater cycles on and off. I've never stood out there and listened to it. I do know that the manual says it won't overheat if you leave it plugged in for extended periods, but I have no idea how the thing works. I only know that it does work.
Northpole, I'd say I feel your pain, but we're downright tropical here in Anchorage compared to you folks in the interior. We're currently right at zero.
I know nobody asked, but my 99 V-10 with 4.30 axle ratio turns about 2400 rpms at 70.
My research is done and I think I've specd out a beauty. Thanks to all for the good info on this board. Brutus, thanks for the tip on truck only dealer at Meadowland Ford. Is it safe to assume truck only dealers automatically have a decent allocation for F250SD 4x4 CC V10? I would hope their allocation is better than regular dealers in the NJ/NY/CT tristate area. Without even negociating, I'm hearing 1000-1500 over invoice and up to 12-16 wk wait. Will wait a little closer till end of month to clinch deal. Just hope I'm picking right dealer.....
I have the 5.4L 4x2 SC SB 5sp with 4.10LS rear. MPG is averaging about 15.5 with mixed driving city/highway. I think the mpg will gain slightly as the truck breaks in. (only 1900 miles on it so far). Acceleration is reasonable and is easily able to keep up with normal traffic off of stop lights, and I even have to shift gears. Hills are no problem and I never have to shift outof OD. Don't get me wrong, its no V10, and your not gonna outrun the average sports car if they decide to 'get on it', but you won't be holding up any traffic either..
In your case, with the little extra weight of the CC, you may want to consider the 4.10 rear end..
I test drove another 4x4 5.4l SC auto 4.10, and my truck feels a little more responsive, probably cause my truck is 4x2 and manual tranny.
Also, if your doing mostly 'mixed' driving (city/highway), I think the 4.10 mpg will be the same as the 3.73, as your able to spend more time in OD etc.. Of course, on strictly highway, the 3.73 will have an mpg advantage..
Also, if you go with the 4.10, you can get a limited slip rear end, which I always recommend..
...I think that kgrantc is pretty accurate with his "factory-spec" listing. I too have y2k 250 4x4 with the 265-at tire option. I have a 16x7 door and clear with about 2 or so inches to spare. I tried to measure to top of cab from garage floor, and got about 80.5 inches as close as I could tell. Another thing to consider is whether or not you will be pulling into the garage going uphill, straight on, or downhill. I pull uphill into my garage and I think it helps with clearance a bit, but I STILL drive SLOWLY going in/out of garage. ....Another thing to consider is mirror width. I have the power tt mirrors and posted measurements some time ago, but if I recall...measurement across the truck with mirrors telescoped in was 84"...both mirrors telescoped out 90". Another thing to be careful of with single garage doors!!
As previously mentioned, FDAF is an advertising charge levied on all vehicles. It varies by sales region, vehicle type and dealer participation in advertising groups. This is definitely a dealer cost that most dealers will pass straight along to the buyer.
time4family: Brutus got it right in post 91 concerning your defrost only problem. The wire under the dash on the passenger side he refers to is actually a vacuum line that controls vent activation in the heating/AC system. There is a vacuum connection in that under dash area that can be kicked or pulled loose. The default selection for the system if the vacuum line is interrupted is defrost. Hope this helps.
I am faced with a delima. I ordered with CD in-dash. Apparently was left of off the order because the salesman thought it was standard.
My options are: 1-FM changer 2-Pay Ford for a new installed In-dash for about $500 or 3- Does anyone know if the wiring or install size has changed from '99 to '00. If it is the same, do you think I could get a salvage yard to find me a '99 in-dash?
I really don't want the changer nor an aftermarket in-dash because the face plates are not even close to the original so there would be an ugly black filler plate. Not appealing.
I'd tell the salesman to go out to the lot and pull one out of a used SD on his lot or pay you the difference of one over the parts counter. The dealers here in Cen. Texas will swap radios in used trucks if you ask nicely. BTW does anyone have the CD player with the RDS button on it? I cant seem to figure out what models or build months they came in, appear to be only early '99 Lariats with bright amber paint.
I've been following this topic since mid summer when I first started looking for a new truck. Ordered a F250 CC LWB Lariet V-10 3.73 on 9/22. Was built the week of 11/29 with an ETA of 12/20. Got a message today saying it was "at the ramp." Can anyone here tell me what that means? I've looked back through a ton of posts here and can't find any mention of it. (Though I know dang well that I read about it here somewhere.) Just curious.
Update for all those waiting... y2k f-250 sd, 4wd, lariat, cc, srw, v-10, auto, AM-FM CD player (jepsonfam) , 3.73 ls, two tone paint...Ordered 8-31, DORA 9-1, serialized 10-9.
So, what happens next and any ideas when?
FYI, I checked VOPC at 8:45 am EST and got the news and then my salesman called at 9:05 am to tell me. At least they are checking.
At the ramp means that Evil Kneviel or Robbie Kneviel has it at their house for a few last test jumps before it is shipped to you......or maybe it is what pistolero said.......it is at the rail yard........Not long from yard to dealer....from a couple of days to a week to ten days....depends on how busy they are........

The only problem I've had is that the driver door doesn't open some cold mornings from the outside. I have to open the rear door and then get the driver door open from the inside. I will get the dealer to adjust the latch.

crazyelvis... time is getting closer for us. the vopc is no longer updating our truck...
Thanks in advance.

After lurking here for about a month, I went out and ordered a SuperDuty today!
Thanks for all the advice and information!

I did not get charged an advertising fee. I bought from Highland Park Ford, IL.
Brutus, thanks for line-x info.
Gas tank recall....FOR WHAT???!!!
Plan to refuel tomorrow - will post mileage.
It's $160 on my truck. Since I got a decent deal ($400 over) to start with, I am not going to get excited over it.
Just gonna sit back and hope my truck gets here soon...
I am wondering what the differance is in 3.73 of 4.10? What is acceleration like with either?
Would it be better with the 4.10 LS ?
How is the gas milage with either combination?
I still have time to change my order so I need all the feedback I can get
My Y2K F350 finally ordered this week.
LARIAT WAS TOLD TO EXP IT THE
MID OF JAN. THE FEE WAS 165 IN
NEW YORK. I TOLD THE DEALER TO
ORDER IT WITHOUT ANY FORD
EMBLEMS ON IT,OR THE COMPANY CAN
PAY ME FOR ADVETISING,AFTER ALL
IT IS MY TRUCK BOUGHT AND PAYED
FOR. WILL SEE WHAT HAPPINESS.
Also, if you go with the 4.10, you can get a limited slip rear end, which I always recommend..
....Another thing to consider is mirror width. I have the power tt mirrors and posted measurements some time ago, but if I recall...measurement across the truck with mirrors telescoped in was 84"...both mirrors telescoped out 90". Another thing to be careful of with single garage doors!!
time4family: Brutus got it right in post 91 concerning your defrost only problem.
Dave
My options are:
1-FM changer
2-Pay Ford for a new installed In-dash for about $500
or
3- Does anyone know if the wiring or install size has changed from '99 to '00. If it is the same, do you think I could get a salvage yard to find me a '99 in-dash?
I really don't want the changer nor an aftermarket in-dash because the face plates are not even close to the original so there would be an ugly black filler plate. Not appealing.
Thanks for all your help guys.
y2k f-250 sd, 4wd, lariat, cc, srw, v-10, auto, AM-FM CD player (jepsonfam) , 3.73 ls, two tone paint...Ordered 8-31, DORA 9-1, serialized 10-9.
So, what happens next and any ideas when?
FYI, I checked VOPC at 8:45 am EST and got the news and then my salesman called at 9:05 am to tell me. At least they are checking.
brutus: Sometimes I envy you folks down there in the "banana belt". If we could get to zero I'd wash my wife's car.
