So you want a vehicle with power seats, a moonroof, a good stereo, blis, CarPlay, a strong engine, etc.? I'd call that loaded. A Moët & Chandon champagne vehicle on a beer budget?

Ah. I looked at a 2BA I think. But cheaper MSRP. No clue why mine come out higher, since in same state. Weird app. I still don’t quite trust the whole concept. Someone needs to buy for a POC.

    That one though, great deal.

Outside of the power seat and stereo, I got the rest for LT 19k. That really is fairly modest now, outside maybe of moonroof.

Power seat, actually negotiable if you can adjust manually the way I want. The power adjust part is irrelevant, but I find few manual seats can be adjusted the way I like.

I’m seeing more and more Giulias out there.  This AM I saw a beautiful Black (Ti Sport, I think) with Yellow brake calipers.  Very sharp looking.  Last week I saw a (ShoulddaboughtanM3 Blue) Giulia Quadrifolio which I was not such a fan of.

One of my friends that AMSI ran off from their BMW dealer is now at the Louisville dealer that has the Alfa franchise. I'm tempted by the Giulia Ti, even though it is a bit on the slow side. Another issue is that most of the Louisville cars are AWD- MEH!!!

I was looking at a base Giulia Sport RWD. Great value for the money, best lease rates on Giulia, and up here in the PNW a castaway within a castaway brand.

They aren't that slow in RWD form, from what I can tell.

Anyone on the fence with the current Civic from a styling perspective - this 2019 facelift may help. The Sport trim from the hatchback is now available on the Sedan and Coupe, though only with the 2.0l engine - wonder if the 1.5T will be an option, for an "Si Lite" model available with an automatic. The grill looks much "smoother" to my eye, and hey, a volume knob!

Unbeknownst to me, until this past weekend (Dad's Weekend), my camp counselor son on his day off, road tripped back east. Likely near me... According to him, with scant detail, smoke started coming out of the hood and the '02 RX300 died. Using the freshly minted AAA card I gave him, he called for a tow and had it towed....100+ miles back to camp. Instead of calling me to get it to local garage. His plan, next weekend, tow it back to home (as camp ends) for further action.

Apparently, this was beknownst to his mother (my ex., now of the PNW), she is the owner of the current door stop Lexus. We share his expenses for the car, I am not going to sink any more $$$ into the great white beast. Apparently they have a plan to get her brother involved, he's in the repair shop industry. A good resource. But, I've also suggested towing it to my garage for diagnosis. If it's big $$$, I'm hoping there will be no lawyers involved to extact more $ from me for the RX. We'll see...

I will suggest to review the necessity of a car for my son, while at University I believe free shuttles and Uber would work well for him. If a car is decided a necessity, I'd begin looking for a used compact hatch/SUV for him, the ex and I splitting it 50/50 (while he's still in school). I'd like the hatch utility for my use, he's only 22 miles away from me at school.

Hyundai Elantra GT, Tuscon or Kia Forte5 or Soul? Scion TC, XD or IM? CR-V, RAV4? The usual suspects...

His plan, this past weekend, was for me to leave the Jag with him at camp. Me ride tow shotgun back east. He really liked that plan.

So far, no word from son or ex as to their plans for the coming weekend return. Me, I'm going to Vermont.

How is the Giulia TI leasing these days? I've only seen the base Giulia at around $335/mo. 24 months.
  • 28firefighter28firefighter Member Posts: 9,834
The strongest residual is the Giulia RWD. Drops from the AWD, Ti, Ti Sport, etc by a percentage or two.

I suspect a Ti Sport would be in the mid 400s with driveoffs.

    Ack....too rich for my tastes...

My recent forays into testing out used cars re-inforces my belief that I was switched in the maternity ward at the hospital, and was actually born a prince.

How else can I explain that every car I drive that I don't like, I can afford, and every one I do like, I can't? B)

"But Shifty, it's ONLY another $150 a month more..."

    Ah, I know THAT trap!

I think you should chat with @breld & @stickguy about this. Instead of searching for a used car for your son, just lease him something on the economical side.

Thanks, Bradd. I'm considering that, low mile leases would work. I just worry a bit that he may not maintain it, or treat it like "his own" if it's leased. Not to mention, wheeling and dealing with the ex on splitting lease payments. We'll see, maybe the RX can be revived.

I could just give him my car, and buy/lease myself something new. That's really what he wants!

His mom has promised him her '11 BMW 535xi if he graduates college in four years. I've warned him of maintenance on a then to be 10 year old Bimmer...

He still wants my car. And, so far, out of warranty $0 spent. But, glad I had a warranty... At my independent, while not the cheapest, scheduled maintenance hasn't (yet) bankrupted me.

My plan is to keep the Jag through '19, especially as I've put a lovely set of used retread tires on her! But, man plans, car gods laugh.

Dad, big pass on the jag at school idea. If he is that close to you, a bomber will be just fine. No payments to worry about.

    Here’s a random one. https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/739810059/overview/

He will hate it of course. But cheap to own.

I'm pretty happy with the fleet as it is right now. I'm going to look to upgrade the front & rear sway bars on the Q40 once it is paid off. Once the brakes need to be replaced, I'm going to upgrade the pads & rotors. I'm sure the tires and struts will need to be upgraded and replaced at some point too.

Nothing new since December of 2014 when we bought the Audi A3 and the VW Golf. As far as I can tell, nothing will be bought until at least 2020 at this point. Both vehicles are working just fine, so why change. Think we'll be moving before we buy something new...but anything can change here!

So my in-laws have decided they'd like to buy a new Subaru Legacy. They're looking at one that has an MSRP of about $25k-ish, so I assume a Premium model.

Anyone familiar with the level of discounts to be had on these or other incentives? They're looking at a 2019, but I don't think there were any changes, so a deal on a 2018 would be fine too.

In Colorado, I assume? For a 2018, I'd be shooting for 13-15% off MSRP. For a 2019, maybe 10-12%. Get a quote from Heuberger Subaru and use that as a baseline.

Leased the Volt 18 months ago.
In another 18 months: Probably looking at another Volt, or possibly a different plug-in Hybrid. At the moment there isn’t anything else comparable.
Don’t know when we will replace the Encore. Right now, I’d consider a Leaf or a Bolt. Spouse would like another Encore. I would prefer Something all electric with a range of over 100 miles.

No story yet. We may have a bit of a space crunch in the coming months. Just weighing the options. I still like the car, though.
Ah gotcha. Secondary parking locations could be nice. Hoping mine pans out.

Guess that's a big reason I didn't lease the Golf, the mileage overage I'd suffer. Do about 1300/month, give or take so not sure I'd be over or not. But if I did lease, I would've been in something else by now. If I do get new, will look at VW first due to their killer warranty. Saw another Mini Cooper Countryman today, a four door in blue over blue with the nicer alloys and I was in love! Have to drive one again to see if the ride is that jarring but the one today was just beautiful!! I want one...NOW!!
I did get a new iPhone 8 Plus though today. $500 done. I lost the eBay auction on Saturday so started looking in NextUp again and found the one I saw a few weeks ago at $530 still there but now at $500 even. Met up after work and was in perfect condition, a very honest young mother, and she set me up. Took my case off and threw the sim card in and did the iCloud stuff when I got home. Did the software upgrade, the latest one, and then moved my contacts over. Finishing up with the apps right now and think we're done. It's the white over white, the combo I really wanted as the black front on the 6s Plus was just too dark with the black/silver case I've got and am re-using. Tomorrow will go over to the mall and get the screen protector installed at one of the many kiosks that do it there. Then I need to clean out my old one and either give it to the wife or sell it on NextUp. If the wife wants it, she can probably just have it but it's only 32 gigs. The 8 Plus is 64 gigs as I wanted more storage.

The upside of a lease is that when it is wrecked, you get it fixed, complete the lease (months leased) and turn it in. The dirty carfax is not your problem.

You also have a vehicle under warranty during the lease term ( unless you are not so smart and lease it for longer than the factory warranty).

Keep in mind that I have never leased a car. The payments have never made financial sense for the vehicles that I have purchased.

    CCBA Roll Call!
    1. How many vehicles have you bought or leased in the last 6 months? ZERO
    2. Last 12 months? ZERO
    3. Last 24 months? THREE! :D (Passat, Q7, Forester)
    4. When do you expect to get your next vehicle? Possibly 12-24, possibly longer. It really all depends on whether I can find someone to buy my Q7! Until that goes, nothing comes.
    5. What are you looking at? Diesel. Beyond that, I'm waffling. Trying to find my 2013 Passat (VW buyback) and a 2017/2018 Chevrolet Cruze w/ MT are high on my list.

got brave today. sent a # request off to a dealer. Though now that we waffled back to me keeping the Elantra and daughter getting a new car, I have a lot more time to procrastinate here.
