Was reading an article on the new Chevy Bolt coming out this summer and like what I see. Think I'd like to dip my toe into the EV pond since I no longer drive long distances. Heck, I don't usually go over 40 miles a week, if that! Work is super close and the supermarket and Target/Walgreens is on the way, so just am not driving very much. Some days, don't drive at all so I know it'll work for me. Size-wise, perfect for my side of the garage so could be a win/win going forward. Will keep my eyes open and go in to the real close Chevy store when they hit the market. Already two Chevy's in the family, a 2019 Cruze and a 2020 Camaro, so why not one more. Was interested in the Chevy Trax Premier to replace the Golf but 2020 is the last year Chevy will import them from Korea. The Buick Encore is basically the same vehicle but the one I test drove a couple months back was just meh to be honest. But could get used to one as long as it includes the Bose audio system, that's a non-negotiable item if I go that route. As much as I love my sun/moon roof, I'd give it up if forced to but the Bose system is where I draw the line in the sand!

Well, my buddy picked up his Model Y on Tuesday night. He ordered a grey dual motor with the tow hitch, on the standard 19" wheels. It is replacing a 19 Leaf they had on lease, and will live with a diesel Colorado. Anyhow, they love it. He's in that stage where he's looking for the perfect all weather mats, other accessories etc i.e. the honeymoon stage.

Just makes me think that's always a fun time in the car buying experience. Happy for him.

Exciting! I'm holding back from placing an order for the meantime, but I saw that the heated steering wheel and updated center console trim should now be showing up on all new Ys. Those are features I figured were worth waiting for.

I also saw online some of the first "in the wild" pics of a new Model S - it had an updated but still traditional steering wheel. Sounds like the yoke steering wheel will be an option, but Tesla needs to work through questions from the NHTSA first.

Yeah he ordered at the beginning of the month, and his car has the heated wheel and new center console, so those are delivering now.

Well that'd be exciting if the Camaro deal happens. I know you're attracted to it for the deal and the potential to come out ahead, but it would be fun to get your impressions of the car itself.

I may have a decision to make later this afternoon...I stalk M2 listings daily and late last night a new one came up at my local dealer. 2018 M2 manual in mineral gray. 20k miles. Not sure if it's a CPO or not. One price dealer asking $44,900.

The manager reached out to me to let me know and did state these tend to go quickly (which is accurate).

There are some things I like better about the BMW over the Supra...better visibility, more upright seating position and definitely more subtle appearance. But it really comes down to how much I really want a manual again.

    We'll see.

Alright, help me out here ... can I even register a leased car on my own? The title goes into the lender's name, as does the registration. So how the heck would I do it? I explained to the salesperson that it would require a power of attorney, at the least, but she doesn't seem to understand what I'm trying to say. I've agreed to the deal, we just have this logistic sticking point.

No, the bank will use a title service for that. Usually, they'll let the dealer know how much for an out-of-state lease.

Pretty sure it can be done but probably depends upon the state. When my friend leased his Tacoma from a dealer in Ohio I believe the title was assigned to the lender before we left the dealer and all of the paperwork had the information needed for PA tax purposes. When we got back to PA we went right to the notary and they processed the title, registered the truck in his name, and issued a plate. Took 30 minutes.

Yeah dealer should handle it with a signed POA form. That is the way I did my out of state lease. It took forever but they got it done.

After you get you registration you’ll have to go to inspection station for a sticker. Which reminds me.... haven’t done that yet

The inspection on the BMW expires at the end of this month but it's not likely to even see the road until late March or April. Which means I'll be out of inspection by at least a month. Inspection last year was done on February 28th but had I waited just a few more days I would be good through end of March. Didn't really think that one through at the time.

My out of state leases (pa) the dealer handled it all. Everything was in the lenders name. I just got plates and registration in the mail.

I maybe might have a deal on a Camaro. Salesperson is very very slow to respond, but the last lease sheet looks good. About $308/mo. But she is missing NJ MVC on there, so I'm trying to find out what's up with that. 2nd problem is that it is 650 miles away. But I've failed at getting anybody closer to deal. They charge only a $75 doc fee, though, so that helps.

Welcome to NY. (Based on the doc fee) Buy a bucket to wash the salt off.

I'd say what you're experiencing, Q, is the fact that few GM dealers do out of state deals whereas the luxury brands it is more common. Hope you get it figured out!

More likely it’s just too far away. My PA (philly) deal did NJ all the time. But I doubt they would know what to do with a buyer in say Kentucky.

Still, up in the far northern reaches of NY they aren’t likely getting many buyers from NJ.

    haha. nobody guessed: Michigan.

I gave her a deposit and sent my personal info. The business manager is out till Monday, so that person could very well come in and squash the whole thing with the ole "we don't do out of state."

It is dark grey, automatic, tech, and dual-mode exhaust. While I would have preferred a different color and black wheels, it is probably the best combo for swapping later. Dual-mode, tech, and auto were exactly the 3 things I figured would be must haves. Anything else just needlessly drives up the MSRP.

I did a naughty thing and, before committing to the deal, emailed the closest dealer who had one in blue and offered what amounted to $700 more to keep the deal local. He said he couldn't touch that. Surprising, but OK, so be it.

The M2 is in nice condition...still dirty as they literally took it in last night. It has PPF on the entire hood and front fenders. It’ll have brand new tires (it had snows in it so they have new ones on order).

They’re not CPOing it, but it does have another year on the original warranty.

I’m torn - there’s plenty I like more about the Supra, not the least of which is its newer. I like the subtle styling of the M2 at times and at others like the Supra styling.

It really comes down to how badly I want the manual.

what's the cost differential on the Supra trade and M2 purchase? For me, a manual is a big plus. But even if you are agnostic on that, having a much roomier and more comfortable cockpit, with some decent trunk room and a back seat, is another plus.

It’s about a straight across trade. $44,918 no-haggle on the M2. Carvana’s price on the Supra is $45k, the BMW dealership came back with $44k, and I suspect they can come up to $44.5k.

And yes, I do appreciate all those things you pointed out as well.

Yeah, all M2s have the black interior, with blue stitching. The newer Comp models have nicer seats. I do like the occasional oyster interiors on some M240i’s.

Truth is, I’d be fine with a RWD manual M240i...but they may be even rarer than an M2. And not a ton cheaper.

ok, in that case I can live with it. But I agree about the normal model. That already has so much higher capabilities than I will ever use, something like the M would be total overkill. Heck, the 40 is overkill vs. the 30 for me. I should have bought your 230 instead!
