Last year we did the front door and side lights, two years ago the windows, and then before that the rear sliding door. The HVAC runs less and the house doesn't cool or warm as quickly, depending on the season, between cycles. The roof is the last thing we need to do in terms of big ticket items.
Yeah, we need to do all of that (or most of it, anyway), with the "new" place.
My Alaska home is good to go from an energy savings perspective, but I do need to actually install the HRV. I have all the ducting run, just nothing to move the air yet....
In the meantime, I have one awning window that I keep open a small amount to allow air to come in or go out as pressure dictates. I think we get good air circulation in the house, as it never feels stuffy at all, but I would much rather recover some of that heat than letting it all escape through the vent fans.

It is odd. They apparently have all kinds of weird issues with out of state. So they are collecting 6% tax and then I'll have to pay 0.625% to my MVC when I register it. I'll have to update the numbers after I visit the MVC, which is not till mid March. Meanwhile, it is $312/mo, $100 DAS (deposit to hold the car and I said just apply it because I know getting it back will be a hassle), $599 shipping.
On the upside, I believe I'll be paying just 1 year reg since I'm doing it myself, whereas it is usually 3 years up front to the finance company and they renew on your behalf. Since I won't keep it that long (most likely), it will save me a few bucks.

Pretty good. MI taxes the monthly payment by 6%. Who knows how it will work out, once you get it registered. I wonder if the payment they quoted has MI sales tax included? If so, once the leasing company figures out where you have it registered, the payment might drop by $18/mo.

yes, the quoted payment has the taxes. Just not all of the taxes. Or ... I don't know ... something like that. Once I see the final contract tomorrow, I'll be able to figure it out.

I kept mentioning to the salesperson that I'd need a PoA. She couldn't understand. I explained that I'm registering a vehicle in GM Financing's name, and certainly would need the PoA to do that. So when finance person called, I guess the salesperson shared my concerns, and she said she will send me PoA for the dealership and a PoA for GM Financial ... just in case.

I was reading that the Feds are going to be bringing back an updated EV credit for manufacturers that have surpassed the 200k production limit for the $7500 EV credit. If passed, for 200k-600k vehicles, buyers would be eligible for a $7000 tax credit. Vehicles sold since hitting that 200k limit but before the bill is enacted would not count towards the 600k limit.
I'd be holding off before buying - $7k off is no joke!
There will be income and pricing restrictions. It will clearly still have value, but I doubt anyone that is shopping, say, a Y Performance is going to see a full $7K coming to them. The income is too darn high, as is the MSRP.
So is the new program under consideration different than the current incentive? There are no restrictions based off income or MSRP now is there?

That was one hiccup with the Tundra. KY requires an inspection on out of state vehicles, and they won't do the inspection without the manufacturer's certificate of origin. I tried to explain this to the dealer. Anyway, eventually get a text from the salesperson telling me I need to have it inspected, and sending me a photocopy of the MCO. I called the inspection person to confirm they needed the original, so went back to the salesperson and told him to call the inspection person directly. They overnighted me the MCO and I got the inspection done. Turns out it's only a VIN check if the vehicle has below a certain mileage and they don't actually inspect anything other than that, so a decent amount of legwork just to get that.

Nothing is really firm yet. Current incentive for manufacturers under the 200K limit has no restrictions, but there is chatter out there that there about political support to 'narrow' the audience. Since this is adding support back onto manufacturers that were 'successful' (over 200K sales), some are arguing that they don't need as broad of support and credits can be more targeted. There is some political sensitivity to helping higher income brackets here.
But who knows what will actually happen. The more it sits in committee, the more it affects the market.

Makes sense that it could be more restricted, though as others have mentioned, depends on how much this is to benefit consumers and how much is for the manufacturers.
I just did a quick read of the actual bill as it relates to the new EV credit. The proposal is simply a modification to the original credit, with a transition period between 200k and 600k units sold, whereby the credit would be reduced to $7,000 during that transition period then phased out within 2 quarters after that.
There is also a proposal for an up to $2,500 credit for the purchase of a used EV. But that is very restrictive and would be phased out for most buyers based on AGI.
I suppose if the bill starts getting some traction, I'd be inclined to place an order in anticipation of the enactment. The current wording specifically defines an "exclusion" period for those units sold prior to the enactment. Though perhaps they would modify that to include all sold during 2021...as of now, I think there are many potential buyers waiting on the sidelines.
I would be interested in any incentive that could help offset the ridiculous Ad Valorem tax we have on leases here in Georgia. A Model Y is most appealing!

I'm a simpleton, and I would think they would want to include 2021 sales just for the sake of making the messaging and processing cleaner on returns. But logic is often a foreign concept in these circles.
Ultimately, this is still in committee so the language is really fluid.
I have gotten some adjustments. Not even sure what the difference was for, but it was never very much money. Just a check that randomly arrived many months later.

I don't know if that's a viable move with a hardwood floor. Refinishing requires sanding the whole thing down, staining, and then applying the finish. I suppose you might be able to do half and half... at twice the cost!

I took a quick tour of some closed dealer lots while my son had hockey practice tonight. There’s nothing terribly exciting in town. One town south (Greenwich) has all the good stuff. Gave me something to do to pass the time.
1st stop was the Ford dealer. I got my 1st glimpse of the Mach-E. They had a Black/Black AWD model with the (I think) Extended Range Battery. It had a $56K sticker price. I really liked the front end. The rear end looked a little “forced” design wise, but it seemed functional. I really hope Ford does really well with this vehicle.
Next up at the Ford store was the Bronco Sport. I know this is the re-skinned Escape FWD based SUV. I think Ford nailed the design on this. I think it is so much better looking than any other small SUV that it competes with. High $20s to mid $30 sticker (badlands edition). It looks the part. Retro, tough, & boxy.
My next stop was the Buick/GMC dealer. They had a nicely optioned ($50K) Sierra Elevation. It was a cement Grey with black wheels and trim. I liked it (it had the long bed, but shorter rear doors). It looks very manly. It (and the Silverado) seem to be very large.
Volvo/Mazda was next. They had an S60 T8 plug in hybrid. Handsome looking.
My final stop was at the Toyota dealer. They had a CPO 2019 Tundra Limited TRD Off Road. Same configuration as the GMC. Short rear door, bigger bed. It didn’t look Nearly as gigantic or imposing as the GMC. It looked big, but not massive.

Hopefully by the fall it will be possible to actually stop and look somewhat normally. Philly car show is also still scheduled (subject to change) for June, pushed back from early February. Can't wait to find out how they organize that (maybe have cars locked?)
I can just tag along with my son. I can get all the expensive stuff I won't spring for out of the way doing that, and look at more budget friendly options at the same dealers while there.
Bradd, I watched a preview test on the new design Frontier. Give that a shot. Still big, but no where near as bargelike as the domestics. Seemed well done, and the V6 has a lot of grunt. I like the looks too.
@ab348 I had the same problem. When we built a large addition we used spray foam insulation. It was too tight. We ended up retrofitting an energy recovery ventilation system. It was a PITA to do it as a retrofit, and I wish that the builder had recommended it when we did the renovation, but it is definitely worth it.

If you can’t sit in the cars, I don’t see much point to going to the show. I can walk the lots on Sundays and see all the same stuff. Sometimes you even get lucky and several are open.

It is quite amazing actually. Up here for years and years the govt ran TV ads about drafty houses and funded home energy audits where after all the tests were done the first recommendation was always to reduce air infiltration and drafts. So you do that and then indoor air quality goes out the window, so to speak. So then you need to do mechanical ventilation, although I will concede that these setups are better than just cracking a window, especially this time of year in cold climates.
A dealer in NC has a new 330e that is nicely equipped- M Sport, Convenience Pkg, H-K, and heated seats/wheel. $52k. Portimao Blue/Black. If it was faster and smaller I’d be really interested, since with the increased EV range I could drive it back and forth to work without using the IC most of the time. I really liked the F30 330e cars I drove at work and the G20 is a much better car in my opinion. It also qualifies for a $5836 federal tax credit, so I’d probably be able to get it for an actual cost of under $45k.

@laurasdada ....congrats to you, too. New digs, new life. I know if it weren’t for the GF, I’d just have a house with a garage, a urinal, a shower, a microwave, a hot plate, a recliner, a 120” screen with surround sound, including 4 subwoofers, and an HVAC system. Now, I’ve got frilly things all over the house. I even have a designer toilet paper holder in each bathroom. Whoever heard of such things?
BTW, if I build another home (which is increasingly becoming a possibility) I want sealed concrete counter tops in the kitchen. Easy to care for and durable as...well...concrete.

I kinda wish that M2 at my local dealer would just sell already, as I find myself agonizing over it!
On one hand...I like that it's a 2018 (LCI, if I'm not getting a Comp), it's fairly priced as far as retail goes, it's been a local car it's whole life serviced at the selling dealership, and it's just down the road from me.
On the other...I had a hard time getting enthused about the Gray. It just seemed a bit dull in person, though to be fair it hadn't been cleaned. And even though I think it's fairly priced, that still seems to include a hefty markup that makes me hesitant to compromise. And then, you know, Comp. I can't say I need the additional performance, but given the 2-series has been around since 2014, I appreciate that the Comp is the most updated with the minor aesthetic tweaks like the grill and mirror caps, plus the seats.
I feel like I'd rather go all in on the Comp or actually go the other way and save a bit on a nice M240i.
Having the Supra is a big part of all the apprehension too - it takes something pretty compelling to move out of it, manual or not.
At least gives me an idea of what a clean one looks like - looking at these pics I find myself liking the gray just fine. And the dealership has theirs listed for less than this private seller, albeit w/22k miles vs 11k. And the private seller's car apparently has a minor accident reported on the carfax - he goes to great lengths to explain how minor it was, but unfortunately for him, it shows up.

Sounds nice. Hopefully it goes to someone that really appreciates it as specs like these are increasingly few and far between.
I knew 2 girls in high school who drove 4WS Preludes, then fairly late model cars, and somewhat exotic in a small town. One car was a white maybe 90-91 model, I remember the driver was a doctor's daughter, and she was as nice as the car. The second car belonged to the mother of a friend's girlfriend, but she drove it a bit (I recall she received a DSM car at graduation, maybe a Talon) - a dark blue 92-93 model that seemed futuristic at the time. Seldom see either type on the market anymore.
Thanks, GG. When I mentioned concrete counter tops, well, if looks could kill... Yes, without women I never would have known of shams, duvets, matching toe kicks and uncomfortable decorative pillows. Not sure I would have been any less happy...
Haven't even driven my car in days, used the CX-5 to move/decrapify my place in order to have pix taken and showings to begin this weekend. Realtor thinks it could be sold within a week. Then, the decrapifying really has to rev up!

I can just tag along with my son. I can get all the expensive stuff I won't spring for out of the way doing that, and look at more budget friendly options at the same dealers while there.

I had the same problem. When we built a large addition we used spray foam insulation. It was too tight. We ended up retrofitting an energy recovery ventilation system. It was a PITA to do it as a retrofit, and I wish that the builder had recommended it when we did the renovation, but it is definitely worth it.

That arrangement is still working quite well going on 35 years.

My wife reminds me of my AV purchases and I kindly remind her of the decor and other purchases. Conversation ends quickly.

Thanks for my therapy session.

But, yes, you gave me a good deal. Appears that prices have actually increased over the last year, which is stunning.
