I would want to know a little more before I passed judgement on this. People often misrepresent the facts (you of all people should know this). If indeed USAA is not being cooperative, and if you're fairly sure there is a problem, leave your car at the mechanics shop or dealership service department, rent a car (keeping records), and ask the insurance company to send someone to the shop to check out the car. I have found that when I used the dealership, USAA never actually went to see the car, they just talked to the dealership over the phone. This probably wouldn't be the case if you were using Joes Fly-By-Night Auto Repair.
Been doing the majority of the driving at work and starting to like the Voyager more than I ever thought. Does just about everything right and if I were in the market for such a vehicle, would definitely give on a look see. Decent acceleration no matter what the situation is, brakes work wonderfully and the mpg's aren't half bad. I did let one of the other guys drive back to the office, 99, the last couple of days but I've been a bit tired as of late and by 3:45 or so, just wanted to sit and relax. The last vehicle I drove besides the Voyager in the last few weeks has been that Mini Cooper Countryman that I really wanted some extended seat time in. A couple of my co-workers know that I like 'em, a lot, so they threw me the keys and said to go have some fun! Going in at 7 am for a synthetic oil change at Tires Plus later this morning. Been exactly a year since the previous one and that's my time limit even though it's doubtful it really needs one. Have only driven about 3100 miles this last year truth be told, but why not really? Printed a $15 off coupon so that'll help a bit and since it's staying in the stable for the time being, getting it done. Tire rotation also though the tires look totally new really. Gotta keep the Golf in tip top shape as just not sure when I'll find a replacement and if at all. Did love driving that Countryman, a lot, but also need to try the upcoming Corolla Cross and the Taos and go from there. Very exciting time right now and once the chip issue is done, who knows what will happen? Another week and just saw a direct deposit from the Toyota store in my checking account. I could get used to this to be honest!!! Think I'll like it even more once they get us the new fleet they've all been talking about and better fitting shirt as the couple they gave me are the wrong size and just awful looking! Really need a nice polo type one that actually breathes in this summer heat as does Enterprise. And would like to see all Rav4's or Camry's in the shuttle fleet so the customers can be as comfortable as can be. It's excellent advertising for your best selling models and the current vehicles look old and tired actually, not a way to put one's best foot forward! Totally agree with having the logo on all shuttle vehicles but use your better models so potential customers can see and feel how good our products really are. And a Prius is a pretty tight shuttle vehicle to be honest. Would think even a Sienna minivan would be a better choice! Did o k in the tip department Monday as really don't expect any, so it's nice to get them. Hopefully I won't be doing such a long day any time soon but would have no issue starting at 11 am if needed. Nice to be able to sleep in on those mornings just a bit later than my Enterprise days.

From what I have been reading, Chevrolet is eliminating a couple of chips from the Silverado / Suburban / Tahoe line to try and keep production up. The last one, just recently mentioned here in these forums, is the start / stop technology. But if you go and read the articles, they eliminated active fuel management several months ago. Hopefully this will help relieve some of the shortage of new cars, but I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope.
The world has become unbelievably interconnected. I expect we will have more and more of these types of minor calamities. Gloomy, aren't I?
If active fuel management means Chevy’s displacement on demand system, I’d call that a positive move.

This accident claim stuff is slooooooow. Accident was 6/7, I reported it to their insurance 6/8. The school corporation just reported it this afternoon.
Liberty Mutual called to speak to my wife this afternoon but just as “fact finders to help assign blame”. They could not authorize a rental car until an adjuster was assigned after they determine who is at fault.
I must try to be nice on the phone. I am failing so far…
To work at an insurance company you have to leave your personality at the door. I suppose they have to be careful to not admit liability but they must realize the emotional toll an accident takes on people.
You said the police only filed a report without assigning blame? When the power company truck backed into me a few years ago the local police showed up and noted on the report that their driver admitted fault. Slam dunk.

Boy, you must work for a generous Enterprise office. Up here we don’t get shirts or even ID badges. We have to wear our gate key cards around our necks so that the office people don’t keep asking us if we’re there to rent a car. The only bling I ever got was a plastic water bottle which melted in the dishwasher. Rumor has it that after five years we get a hat.

No, the police report is not yet available. At the crash site they didn’t even ask my wife what she was doing when she was hit. ISP told her that the bus driver said she swerved to avoid hitting the pickup and hit our Q7 and the pickup truck both.
Liberty mutual is calling to try and assign blame. I guess hoping that someone will say something to incriminate themselves??

I'd say that is accurate about the incrimination part. In KY, police officers will rarely assign blame in a report, unless they witness it, or one party admits blame. Of course, they'll also report any statements by witnesses.
Interesting read. And then there's this prediction:
And, according to J.D. Power, don’t expect that record-setting demand to dry up anytime soon. Inventories are still low, the recovery is in full swing, used cars are better than ever, and the microchip shortage will suppress new car production for the foreseeable future. Prices, the firm predicts, will stay elevated for at least a year.
Makes a whole lot of sense actually about the chips. Luckily, I can wait a year or even longer for my next purchase so not a problem here. Oil change/rotation done with no issues to speak of, even asked if everything looked o k, supposed to do a look see. Guy who checked me out said the Golf's in very good condition and that "I keep it really nice" so was happy to hear this. Should replace the wiper blades, new air filter and swap out the brake fluid going forward but will get my new mechanic to take care of the brake fluid swap. Figure I'll wait till I hit 70K since it was last done around 36K. Tires seriously look brand new, September will be two years of ownership. But keep it properly aligned and rotate with each oil change. Had a coupon for $15 but it still came out to $94...not surprised as most things have gone up. I had an extra crush washer so no leak in the garage yet...they changed the design a couple years back so they got me an extra one which was a smart move. I put it in the glove compartment and there it was this morning. We got hats at Enterprise when I started and got newer ones when we got the $100 gift cards. Our group is going to that restaurant tomorrow night after work it seems as one of the group is going on vacation up north for a month or so. CarFax sent me an email earlier today. $8100 trade value for my vehicle in good condition. Does ho my accident on their report so not surprised. Haven't tried the other car buying services but doubt they'd pay much more anyways. And then, what to get? Nothing out there I really want right now but by years end, will have choices, all good ones to.

I’m an ious to drive (at least sit in) them both. One nice thing about the Maverick. It’s much narrower than even the ranger. So plausible to get into the garage!

I still haven't heard a peep out of Carvana. I imagine they're just patiently waiting for my odometer photo after wondering why I uploaded four copies of the trust documents... never occurring to them that their system is broken and maybe trying to reach out to me. LOL

Mjfloyd1, thanks so much for the info, glad it can get dumbed down for folks like me. Will have to think long & hard here about leasing because we've never been in a position to do it and now, for the first time, it might actually work. So again, thanks for the link. Though I do have time, now we can both sit down and discuss options going forward.

The trick to leasing is getting a good deal with a good program in place, and having the proper allotted miles. It is like taxes, paying as close as what you actually owe during the year is the most economical course of action.

Agreed - if @Sandman6472 is only driving 3000 miles a year, a lease is really not the best way to go. You're buying probably 10,000 miles a year and not using anywhere near all of them.

Which is still twice as many miles as he needs.
True. But it would give him some "slack" to work with, in case his needs did change. And if he did only drive 3k per year, at the end buying out the lease with only 9k on the car would look quite attractive.
Another fun window into the insanity of today. In another group I'm in, someone has a 2018 WRX just about to come off-lease. Residual is just over 16K. Carvana offered him just over 26K for it.
One of my friends is retired Navy; daughters car was stolen amnd later recovered- with the engine now making ominous noises. USAA is dragging their feet and refusing a loaner until they can inspect the car.
I was absolutely flabbergasted as well; after viewing a few USAA ads it was beyond obvious that my friends are fabricating their story. Although I guess if you refer to a Nissan dealer-recommended by USAA-as "Joes Fly-By-Night Auto Repair" I could see why USAA is taking their sweet time. FWIW, my wife mentioned that another friend(Retired Army) also allegedly had issues with USAA on a comprehensive claim a few years ago. I told my wife in no uncertain terms that she should quit befriending blatant liars.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that USAA is foolproof or beyond blame. Far from it. But they are one of the best companies I have ever done business with, and by far the best insurance company I have ever done business with. I would never condemn them without knowing the entire story, which we don't know here.
The way I always play the game is to wait until I am certain that I'm happy with the repairs (or in this case, the recovered vehicle) before I turn in the rental car. My confidence in the average repair facility is just not that high. Worst case I might have to pay for one or two days on the rental. Although I actually don't recall that ever happening.
I was trying to do an online search for "recovered stolen vehicle" and came across some interesting information. Several different outfits, including one police department and Geico insurance, recommended a thorough inspection and cleaning. Seems that most stolen cars are used in illegal activities, primarily drug trafficking. You don't want to be driving around in your recovered vehicle not knowing there is a stolen gun under the seat and a 100k worth of cocaine under the spare tire.
Although if you did find a fortune in illegal drugs, would you turn it in or contemplate a scenario like "Breaking Bad"??? Hmmm....

Hahahah; I'm sure she was thrilled to hear that!
On a flip-side USAA story....
My brother contacted me today regarding a check he received from USAA with a letter saying they were reimbursing him "expense plus lost interest" on coverage he purchased for his 2008 Cobalt (long gone now) but, according to their calculations, did not receive good value on. Man, that's shockingly good customer service there, and it's completely beyond the call of duty.
I think the check worked out to a little over $400.

How good was Breaking Bad? I could rewatch that series anytime. One of the best TV shows ever.
I’ve got a big problem. Carvana sent me an email suggesting I resubmit my Mustang for a new offer. A few months ago they offered $25.5k for my 6 year old car which I thought was unbelievable.
Just for kicks I resubmitted the car and they came back with this:
I paid $31k for this car in 2015.
What the heck do I do now?

I'm not trying to be funny, but what are you going to do with the money? That's YOUR car. Do you need the $30K right now? Are you going to bank it and buy another V8 Mustang when supply catches up and prices level off to normal.
2001 Prelude Type SH, 2022 Highlander XLE AWD, 2025 Camry SE AWD
I paid $31k for this car in 2015. What the heck do I do now?
If you can hold out for a year or so, take the money. If you're not dead set on a V8, $30k will buy you a new EcoBoost model plus a tune once they are available (I'm assuming that, with a tune, performance is pretty much equivalent to a GT).
but that is crazy money for a soon to be 7 YO car, even with low miles. Though doing a quick search, Mustang inventory is really low too. Found 1 V8 AT after checking a bunch of dealers. So you could spend $10k to upgrade to a 2021 base model GT. Not discounting at all. Could do an even swap for a 2.3t though!

I'd say that is accurate about the incrimination part. In KY, police officers will rarely assign blame in a report, unless they witness it, or one party admits blame. Of course, they'll also report any statements by witnesses.

I still haven't heard a peep out of Carvana. I imagine they're just patiently waiting for my odometer photo after wondering why I uploaded four copies of the trust documents... never occurring to them that their system is broken and maybe trying to reach out to me. LOL

It’s really just an alternate way to finance a new car. If after 3 years you like it and want to keep it, just make 1 more payment and it is yours!

FWIW, my wife mentioned that another friend(Retired Army) also allegedly had issues with USAA on a comprehensive claim a few years ago.
I told my wife in no uncertain terms that she should quit befriending blatant liars.

Hmmm....
I agree with you, but someone has to look at "why is that number that number?"
Edit: I'm a pretty decent guy; I think I would even go for 50% of street.
If only I was that lucky!

How good was Breaking Bad? I could rewatch that series anytime. One of the best TV shows ever.

Never seen any reason to leave . . .
I'm sure they tightened up their processes since then.
I’m still allegedly having no response from Liberty mutual ( and the emu)

Finally have an adjuster….
Just for kicks I resubmitted the car and they came back with this:
I paid $31k for this car in 2015.
What the heck do I do now?

Or of course just keep it and enjoy it since you were (IIRC) planning to hold onto this one forever?

I have to watch that series. Problem is wife hated BB and never finished it, so doubtful she will like BCS.
