A3 needs a new headlight it seems, it started blinking Sunday night and now, dash shows an error message. Will get it fixed sometime this week but not sure where yet. Wife's calling around to see who has it in stock and getting prices. Still needs some new sneakers so probably get that done also. She still likes it and with just about 63K on the clock, it's staying in the fleet for another couple of years. It really drives very nicely and it fits our family right now. And we'll be taking the Accent to Orlando next month as it's newer and gets batter mileage.
The Golf is also staying for the forseeable future as the new Corolla Cross due out this fall probably won't be out till next year due to the chip issue and seriously, I can wait. Think I'll like the CC a lot, but, maybe best to wait till year two as I don't want to be one of the first to own it. And right now, the Golf is behaving itself. And really, doesn't make sense to swap it out only driving about 50 miles a week...if that!

Did the new spark plugs make any difference for the Golf?

I replaced a couple of HID bulbs in the X3 and the MS3. I bought Phillips bulbs from Amazon. Identical quality to the BMW and Mazda bulbs but priced about 50% less.

So far so good. Drives well. Doesn’t handle anywhere near as well as the x3 m40i. I liked the X3 m40i except the pleather. Maybe it would have been ok with tan but I got the back sweats with black pleather and hot weather. It rides better than the 2018 Rubicon I assume because of a combo of suspension, Street tires and battery weight.

Deal was employee price + $200 - $1000 bonus drive coupon - $49901 for BMW. I will get $7500 federal tax credit in April.

You have an Audi A3 and your Golf, both which are German cars that shine on the open road and you are opting to take the Accent? Sandy, I have to believe that trip in the Audi will be easier on your spine than the Hyundai. I'm not trying to say the Hyundai is a bad car, just that the other 2 in your stable will offer superior comfort and road manners.

Comfortable, great power, good range. It's a 3 wagon. If you still have the old price locked in, picking one up is a no brainer.

As a side note, changes are coming to our garage. The market made me do it.

The Rhino one, however, I had to re-create using a closeup of an original toy I found on ebay. $60 for both sides shipped a printer in China. Not bad. The stars are stock ones I found on ebay.

You sold the BMW and custom ordered a Wrangler 4Xe?

This is a pretty good guess, actually.

Okay, here's where we are. We ordered the Model Y in Feb. At the time I ran numbers for both our X and 3 to see what the number I could get was. We ended up cutting the 3 loose then as the offer was stronger. Jump to August, and Vroom offers $11k more for the X then in Feb. The used car market is peaking. This tells me that if I wait until next year on the X, the number will go back down to before, and add another year of depreciation on top of it. So maybe $15k lower? Or more? So, yeah, sell it to Vroom. I like the car, but not for $15K+ to drive it another year.

I then lined up a strong offer from one of the regional Jeep dealers on a 4xe, since that's what the cool kids are doing. Deal looks good. And for curiosity, I then got a trade number from Tesla to compare to their number from February, and, what....the..., they're offering how much? $14K more than Vroom?

Offer is for more than I bought it for. But it's a trade offer. Good for 30 days. So...I ordered a 3. It's the only Tesla delivering anytime soon from when you order it. My wife always talks about how she misses the 3, so that will be her car. I'll drive the Y into 2022 reevaluate next year. I'll miss the X, but I feel pretty good about how it has all lined up.

I think you might have a new record. Congrats.

I’m confused. So you aren’t getting the big offer from the Jeep dealer but instead taking the lower vroom offer and buying a model 3? Do I have that right?

Mine is due to the rail yard on 9/12. Seems like quite the trip from Toledo to Atlanta but what do I know.

Looks like residuals have ticked down a point so I’ll be running some numbers just to see what makes sense. I was hoping to be under $400 but we will see. Dealer is being a little reluctant to commit to using my 1% Tread Lightly. Thats fine but he’ll need to discount by another ~$500 or so to make up for it.

From one of the Ford Maverick forums - a couple of brief videos showing a "test drive" were briefly posted. I put test drive in quotes because the one I was able to watch, before it was taken down, had probably a few hundred feet of driving:

Ford made me take the test drive video down. But I did get Ford Media to tell me that their media footage including test drive will be released late September with media embargo released in October.

Not sure how late because stock units should be arriving late October I would think.

    So, I guess we wait.

    @corvette

Are you thinking of ordering a Maverick too?

If you want to get a feel for the powertrains, I wonder if you could find a Ford Escape hybrid and and Ford Escape 2.0T? Difficult to find anything right now, but if you could they would probably give you a pretty good sense about the engine choices for the Maverick.

It's on the list of contenders for when the Tundra lease is up, which is likely a year away if I extend it by six months, so no rush, I'm just looking.

I saw that video when it was up, and was surprised they allowed it (there was even a Ford media guy on the ride). It was from the dealer dog and pony show. Not surprised it came down.

Late October sounds odd since the dealer I talked to said they expect first deliveries by end September/early October (but who really knows if he was correct). still, with so many orders going back months, and cars close to being out for delivery, seems like they should let the embargo expire soon.

still not sure what, but I really am Jonesing for another car now. About to be 1 year since I turned in the TLX (did not expect to go this long!)

watching all the crazy weather (we are currently on the edge of a Tornado warning since one is on the ground about 10 miles away) makes me wonder if the car shortages are going to get even worse soon.

Need to just find something and bite the bullet. Probably safer to lease and just pay a little more each month. That might bother me less than overpaying for a used car to have temporarily that will crater in value when I go to replace it with something I really want.

actually, I would not spend more. Just find a cheaper car. So instead of leasing a (for example) $40K car for $400/month (ah, the old days!) will just find a still nice $30K car for the same $400. So pay the same for what I "need" instead of what I "want"

Now that leases have gone up too, maybe you should instead see if you can lock down Ford's 0% for 36 months on a Maverick? A Maverick at 0% sounds like a good deal to me on a very functional vehicle. Ford seems to do a great job on their trucks.
