I agree… I think there is a large potential in the marketplace for smaller pickups.
I think it will cut into sales of similarly sized SUVs.
In all reality something like the Maverick would be perfect for my family’s lifestyle. It would be nice to throw the beach stuff in the bed rather than getting sand in the back of the SUV every weekend.
I’m just not ready to give up a sedan as my primary driver!
Interestingly, when I was flirting with getting a Bronco before buying my current TLX, dealers wouldn’t even take my special order for one. Even before these were released, orders for the Maverick, Bronco and even to a little lesser extent, the Bronco Sport, were tough to come by.
Even today, good luck finding a Bronco with the more powerful engine. Same with the Bronco Sport. For that matter, same with the Mustang MachE. Ford has knocked their lineup out of the park this year.
Coworker called last night asking if I could give him a ride to work this morning. He rear ended another car last night. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. He drove his car home from the accident scene, but said it stated smoking. It looked pretty mangled—radiator support, hood, bumper, at least one fender, and both headlights. Oddly, the airbag didn’t deploy. It’s a 6+ year old Chevy Sonic, so I’m thinking it’s a goner, even without needing a new airbag.

Last evening up here Google would not return results, Gmail would not update my mailbox, many websites including this one would either not load or would do so only intermittently, and Twitter and Facebook were non-responsive, though strangely, YouTube seemed to be fine.
I saw an Edmunds piece today where the reviewer was slagging the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance model for being slower in the 1/4-mile than a Tesla Model Y.
I saw an Edmunds piece today where the reviewer was slagging the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance model for being slower in the 1/4-mile than a Tesla Model Y.
It outdid the Tesla in braking and handling, however. Interesting to see how porky these things are too.
I found the piece to be a strange take.
"Ford says the car isn't designed for drag strips."
LOL! Did the Edmunds reviewer seriously ask that? "Hey, Ford, ummm... why didn't you make your first full EV SUV a dragster?" They must have been laughing their butts off.
And, lest the reviewer forgets, the Mach-e GT starts $4k lower than the Model Y Performance AND still gets the $7500 rebate. That's $11,500. The proud owners can then easily afford a set of drag radials before hitting the dragstrip. hahaha.

I was behind a Genesis G70 in traffic yesterday and noted the "2.0T" badge it sported on the rear. That made me wonder, is that 2.0 engine the same Theta engine that has become notorious for spinning bearings, losing oil, throwing rods and catching on fire? We had an Elantra Sport hatchback burned to a crisp here yesterday that made the news, so it was fresh in my mind.

Actually, I still have a flatbed scanner that gets used a few times a year, including just last week. Comes in handy sometimes. It isn't SCSI, though.
My laser multifunction has a flatbed function and an ADF. The inkjet has a flatbed and an ADF that will flip the pages to scan both sides, which has been invaluable on occasion.
We bought a Fujitsu ScanSnap at my old law firm, and it was the best $500 I ever spent. That thing would scan both sides of the page at once (no flipping to the other side) because it had two image sensors, was super fast, and gave high quality scans.
Back to the subject at hand, coworker couldn’t get a rental today so I’m taking him home, as well. I’m starting to feel like a soccer mom. He says he will Uber tomorrow.
The one I have is a Canon, at least 10 years old if not more. It's main value is in its ability to scan old photo prints and slides and then parse each into an individual image file.

I think that’s a different motor. Since it’s not transverse. But not sure how much in common.
It’s a Theta so pretty closely related, if not functionally the same. I seem to remember reading the RWD applications have a different compression ratio. The turbo is also a Mitsubishi and it shares several parts with Lancer EVO engine.
Speaking of cars that may not be paragons of reliability, here is a fun (and very nicely done) video comparo of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm and Jaguar Project 8, by Harry Metcalfe/Harry's Garage. Two vehicles we likely shall never see on this continent, both of which are probably more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
Actually, I still have a flatbed scanner that gets used a few times a year, including just last week. Comes in handy sometimes. It isn't SCSI, though.
I sent mine (purchased in 1993) to the recycler when I could no longer plug the SCSI card into my latest computer build (2009, I think). Not that I used it much before that, but now that scanners are so readily available, it really didn't make sense to put money into keeping it around when it wasn't good (by the "modern" standards) and it took up a bunch of extra space.

It's funny, I've never even driven an Alfa, much less owned one, and the GTAm is of course totally impractical. Yet I cannot take my eyes off it and keep thinking about how much fun it would be. I love the color of that one too. The price, though, makes it only something to fall asleep thinking about.

Took the Escape to a Mavis Tire today for an oil change, tire rotation, and alignment. The steering wasn't feeling right to me. Tip in was precarious and uneven from left to right. It felt very nervous around corners. And, to top it off, the front tires started squealing around bends. Told the dude what up and he was trying to convince me the alignment wouldn't do that. Ok, humor me and do the alignment anyway. They bang it out for me and, on the way home, I felt a massive difference in the steering and how it tackled turns, AND no squealing. Oh, and the inside shoulders of both front tires were bald. Now they are the back tires.
As for the Mach-e, it still impresses a whole 24 hours later. I got to sit and play with it a bit today while I was waiting for the youngest. Holy cow that thing has SO MANY custom settings. Did I mention you can set up your phone to be a key? No need to carry a fob. Pretty nifty. And it has adaptive cruise and lane keep assist. I played with that a bit on the way home. Son and I were laughing about it as I challenged it to "take us home" on back country roads. I also turned on the fake engine noise. I don't like it. Will be turning that back off.

Rentals are hard to come by now & prices are insane from what I've been hearing. But we were busy today moving vehicles from the airport to the individual locations. Yesterday was super slow and we only worked 7.5 hours, today was almost 9.5. Hoping by a year from now, things will be vastly improved but all speculation on my part.

Drove a couple of Hyundai Kona's yesterday and it's a pretty decent vehicle but found it kind of boring honestly. My co-worker knows about my interest in getting into something different and since he needed a ride home tonite, threw him the keys & asked him to drive it to his house. He liked the way it drove and was curious as to why I'm even considering doing anything right now? He said it drove just fine though did notice the slight turbo lag and agreed that shifting into "S" mode on takeoff solves that issue. Said the brakes grabbed nicely even though I think the pedal is a bit too low. He liked it & agreed that maybe best to just do nothing as there's really nothing to replace it with. He sold his base Versa to Carvana like 9 months ago and is about to finally pull the trigger on a pre-owned Ford 150, possibly tomorrow. He's finally had enough of getting rides from family & friends and just not having a vehicle outside to just go anywhere he needs to. And I get it as I'd be so lost without a vehicle outside waiting for me to use.

An entire tank of using remote start, city driving, and short trips has set what is probably a record low in the Tundra.
Given those conditions, it's honestly not that bad. Maybe, what... 50% of normal economy? It's just so terrible to start with, you don't have far to go before you hit the single digits!
Imagine, now, how I felt getting 10 mpg out of my Q7 when bucking 30+ mph headwinds while driving 80 mph pulling a trailer. My normal economy in that car is nearly 3x that, and 16+ without the wind (but with the trailer). LOL
