Yes, it would, but Apple doesn't really care about its customers being mildly inconvenienced by having to spend hundreds on new charging hardware.

They probably do care. They get to sell hundreds of dollars of new charging equipment.

There are no good leases relative to MSRP other than the two mentioned above.

I know a few people in my family/friends circle that used the positive equity in their current lease as a CCR and ended up with similar payments.

That’s not something any of us like to do, but in this market it isn’t the worst thing you can do. IMO it’s better than buying something used at these prices.

If Volvo still made the S60 in the T6 configuration I’d consider doing it August, especially considering that there is no other way to use that equity other than leasing/buying another Volvo.

To me, that seems logical though. If it gets to the same payment, alls good. Maybe you are paying more but since you are cashing in equity it’s just a wash. No different to giving a car back that’s not worth residual but getting the new lease subsidized.

I only ever cared about DAS and payment. Not how they made the sausage!

Same reason I’m not concerned about house prices when I move (hopefully!). As long as what I’m buying and what I’m selling go up or down the same %!

    Random story…

When we arrived in Nashville last week, we went to the Avis counter to check in. We had reserved a “Ford Edge or similar” class and were told they had a Kia Sportage for us. I politely told them we needed a vehicle that could seat 4 plus their luggage, and she insisted the Sportage was in the same class. Long story short, she asked a manager to come over and explained that I was insisting on a Ford Edge….uh no, I get how the “similar” part works, I just didn’t think the Sportage was “similar.” Finally, he made the claim again that the Kia was the same size, if not larger, than the Edge, particularly since the Kia had a third row. Huh? Simple mistake…the clerk had mistakenly said “Sportage” instead of “Sorrento.”

The Sorrento was nice for a rental car…certainly comfortable enough for driving around the city. But I have often made the claim that pretty much all cars these days have adequate horsepower. I stand corrected. ;)

Another day, another recall for Hyundai/Kia. Over 650,000 vehicles recalled for fire risk. Not engine-related this time but instead the ABS control unit. They are advising owners to park them outdoors in case they burst into flames. Comforting.

We went to Greencastle IN to see our daughter cheer a basketball game. On the way home, I notice a Bentley at a used car lot in this tiny town.

I just googled it. 2012 Bentley Flying Spur with 112k miles. Call for price.

What could possibly go wrong? 6 liter W12 twin turbo.

I thought we already talked about the ABS? Wasn't that the issue where their solution was to put in a heavier fuse?

It seems it is still happening! We don't have all the details and whether the car was damaged somehow that caused the issue.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Another local family says their Kia caught fire without being in a wreck. It’s a problem Channel 9 has covered since 2018. Unlike the other cases, this latest one involves a 2022 vehicle.

Kathy Basternak says she bought a 2022 Kia Sportage in July. In December, five months after purchasing it, she and her husband switched cars for the day.

Her husband was traveling on Interstate 485 when he noticed smoke coming from under the hood. “Within minutes, the whole car had engulfed in fire,” Basternak told Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke.

I'd love an EV for in town/commuting duty, as I can charge at work, could put a charger in my garage, and never worry.

However, visiting family on the west side would destroy the fun, I'm not spending 90 minutes in George or Ritzville or Cle Elum or something waiting for juice - assuming I don't have to wait in line for a charger. Short distance EV mode with a ICE travel mode seems ideal until batteries can catch up, I believe that will happen long before we see a legit "autopilot" type feature.

I am with QB. They seem like a great idea without the range issues. Though a regular hybrid would still be a good step up for us. Next car will definitely be at least that.

Wes, where you live and some of the drives you talk about, an EV seems really limited. Especially in deep winter when range will take a big hit. Unless you would only be looking to use it locally, and not drive to that other big city (like when you take the Audi in for service)?

I don't disagree with any point in the arguments.

However, when the time comes, I would definitely run it when and where I wanted. But, of course, these pioneering days do present challenges for the technology. For me, the biggest restrictor is leaving Alaska. We'll get there, for sure, but it may take some more years yet.

If, for some reason, I end up needing to make the run south with an electric car before then, it will just mean more research and time to get it done. Others have transited the highway with electric cars before, so it can be done (just not at the pace to which I am accustomed).
Tacoma to Spokane would require one stop in Ellensburg for nearly 30 minutes. If by west side you mean Long Beach, then you might need another stop.

Yeah but at the end you have a reliable car free and clear. I suppose it depends on where he’s driving it. After bouncing around the streets of NYC for three years and getting it sideswiped a few times, he might want to get rid of it but if it’s primarily used to leisurely cruise the wooded boulevards of CT it might last for decades.

@qbrozen, I can’t find the post right now, but within the last few days you talked about how much you disliked driving the TRX. Which made me curious. Not that long ago, you had an F150 Supercrew with the ecoboost, leased as I recall, and you seemed to like that one. What is the big difference here? Jacked up, big tires, ???

I will see how that works, then see how the phone music works. If the phone is a big improvement I will start copying more cds into iTunes and see how that works.

I haven't done it in a while, but I think you should be able to import files into iTunes. When I pulled all of my music from my CDs onto the computer, I did it with Windows media player, and I believe they were all WMA. I was able to get them into iTunes, which stored everything as MP3. Granted, it was a long while ago.

I'm looking at an XLE trim with a sticker price somewhere around $45K. Plus 6.35% sales tax ($2,857) = $47,857 before interest charges. The payment comes to approximately $800 per month.

Sounds like a solid option. And, of course, the payback you'll get from the Pilot will offset that substantially.

I thought I lost mine as well, but it turns out that iTunes just changed the default folder structure where it would look for them. I'm trying to remember now, but, if you look for "iTunes" in your Documents folder, you might uncover them. Once located, you can then reimport them from iTunes.

The tricky thing for me is that, with all the reimports I've done over the years, I tend to end up with between two and four duplications of every track showing up in iTunes when I first get it set up on a new computer. The sad thing is, only one version works (but I don't know which one until I click on it). Over the course of years, I generally end up deleting the erroneous listings, but there are thousands of them! By the time I finish, it's time to build a new computer.

Speaking of which, my current one is somehow seven years old again.... Hmm....

I thought when you uploaded your music into iTunes that it meant they kept a copy of it in the Cloud for you?

I have never been able to quite understand how iTunes works though, so likely it is just another technological thing that this dinosaur cannot grasp. I do remember a few years ago people complaining that some new feature of it wiped the owned music off their phone for some reason, or something outrage-inducing like that.

I know we are off topic… but ITunes is the dumbest program ever. You can simply drag and drop pictures to/from your IPhone using windows, why didn’t they do the same with music? The process is made more difficult than it has be.

With my saved iTunes music, transferring it to a new device a few times has caused some songs to be corrupted and they end early. The interesting thing about it is that these were never songs I bought through iTunes or another online music source, rather were songs I transferred to my iTunes from a CD of mine.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,357
I believe iTunes was built to be more of a store adjunct, with purchased music. It just happens that you could copy your owned music into it, so that would show up in the player also.

The problem I ran into is that iTunes (that you have to log into, and can buy music and stuff like that) only saved what you got from them. So if you logged into your iTunes account on a different computer, all your imported music did not show up. That is what happened to me. I lost the local copy and only the Apple connected stuff showed up on the new machine.

I believe Apple sorta scrapped iTunes for music player (get apple music instead, whatever they call it). But I still use iTunes to backup my phone!

but I agree that at this point it is a poor solution.

Anyway, got the Maverick (now officially named Goose*) legal. Ran out to the inspection station (which shockingly had zero customers at it, just a bunch of employees milling about doing nothing) and had the manager come out (they have a special booth outside just for new car stickers). After she scraped the PA sticker off (I hate that PA puts one on for out of state sales, and it is 2x as wide as the NJ sticker) there was a lot of scrap residue. I made a comment about hating that PA stuff, so she asked if I had a cloth to wipe it off, which I did. So she pulled out some spray cleaner, hit the leftovers, gave it a scrape with her tool, and windshield was perfectly clean. I wiped it down and she put the sticker on, and it looks perfect.

as a side note, it makes me feel very old that my car is inspected through the date when I can start on Medicare. 2nd side note, I stopped for a haircut on the way back, and the stylist thought I was supposed to get the senior rate which I don't until the Maverick inspection sticker runs out!

but at least everything matches (plates and stickers) and no more big yellow paper up on the dash (temp inspection ID).

*Goose worked on multiple levels. Top Gun reference, and it is big and gray ("Grey Goose"). And yesterday someone sent me a picture of her cute pair of dogs, named goose and Maverick! My daughter liked it, so done deal.

oh yeah, the USB drive worked like a charm. Started the car and selected that input, and before I had the car out of the garage it was all indexed. Then I just listened to songs on shuffle while I was out. Good quality sound, all the song/artist info shows on the audio screen, and the steering wheel controls work to skip songs. Now I just need to find more music libraries to pull in! And see what happens if I plug in the phone to run Navi through carplay at the same time. I think it should work, since audio input is a different selection (and it had no problem running carplay and FM at the same time).

Wow; bid to $39,000 but didn't sell? Seems like the seller's hopes might have overshot practicality on this one. Wasn't the 800 series fairly reviled for its lack of reliability?

The M70 V12 and the rest of the drivetrain was solid. The 8 Series had a lot of electronic bits in the interior which could go wonky. Nowadays there are aftermarket rebuilds and other solutions. It’s another car that I wish I had bought a few years ago. It’s a peerless long distance GT.

https://www.carvana.com/vehicle/2152536 anyone want to buy for basically what we paid in 2017 at 0 miles for this one? WOW. Maybe a few dollars less, but not much. I suppose with inflation accounted for it's "much" cheaper.

Call it what you want it’s still old mans Gray and when your inspection sticker expires you’ll really fit in. B)

Took the left front wheel off the Prius and discovered the shield behind the brake disc was bent all to heck. Bent it away from the brake disc and it still looks bad, but the noise is about 90% gone, so I’ll call that a win. I’ll probably have it fixed properly if it gets worse or when I have the front brakes done (they work but the discs are warped—it’s a minimally irritating issue if you mostly use the regenerative braking). Naturally, I treated myself to dinner at the Cuban place as a reward for my handiwork.

Okay, yeah, that's what I recall from the Shifty days. He spoke at length about electronics gremlins on them.

So, what are your thoughts on that auction? Was it reasonable to go unsold at that bid?

A few nasty nicks and gouges, and still asking that. Carvana is bold.

    Yes, it feels much larger

Decided to look into this a little more. According to the specs, the TRX is a mere 4" taller than my F150 was. Width and length are kind of in spitting distance, too (although I am not convinced that takes into account the flared fenders, but I suppose they technically don't extend past the mirrors). So why does it feel so much larger? Possibly the 1700(!!) additional pounds it is carrying around! That's like a whole other first-gen Sentra's weight. That's crazy.

@qbrozen - the turning radius may be higher, as well. That can really make a car feel larger.
