That’s going to be one heck of a tax loss although having big losses in the first two years won’t cause you to get audited. (I hope)
Its not a $100k deduction, but the space you use for business is deductible as a percentage of all housing costs. So, working in round numbers not my actual numbers, you have 3000 sq ft house and 1000 sq ft garage for business only, then 25% of all housing costs (including utilities) are deductible.

What is softex? Guessing it's something to do with the seating surfaces. I do like the Mazda XC-30 but hate, really really hate their infotainment controls. They really stink and need to be "dumbed down" like my Golf. Our A3 has a similar infotainment system and it's also annoying. Luckily, I don't drive it that much as it's not my vehicle. Ordering my next vehicle is probably the way it's going to go. If it's the Toyota, it's got to be an "XLE" model, not sure if they have a "Limited" for the "XLE" model. I only want three options right now, so should be a very doable order, that is if they even take orders. I asked the sales guy at the Delray store and he told me no, they won't take an order. Haven't asked at the store I used to work at as even though it is the closest to us, don't really want to do business there. When one drives up, the sales guys sit outside waiting to pounce on their next victim. I want to chose my salesman and want someone who didn't just start last week. The store where I used to work just feels so slimy, a big reason why I did quit. So many of their staff were super rude, which surprised me since I was a fellow employee. But ordering will most likely be the way things go & right now, a 2024 model is what I'm shooting for. A shame Breld's wife sold their previous Mini Cooper as I had said in here that I'd like first dibs on it when this happened as it was outfitted the way I would've done one. But, that courtesy was never extended to me...whatever. Probably a sign from G-d as when the right time does come, he'll put it in front of me to just do it. I really believe in stuff like that for some reason...might not be logical but something is steering us along in our daily lives, some force or whatever you want to call it. And it's that timing in our lives that I let happen & follow.

I used to use section 179 a lot to deduct equipment. Once when I worked from home I went through all the trouble to deduct all home office expenses: office space in the basement, furniture, filing cabinets etc. Then I figured out the depreciation schedule. Then I had to itemize on my 1040.
Way too much work for the few pennies I saved.

IThe spreads here are still obscene. Most stations are over $1.00 at this point.
Isn't that the truth.
It was only four or five years ago that I commented on the fact that the spread was still ten or fifteen cents from regular to mid-grade to premium, just as it had been when gas was a dollar or so a gallon many years ago. Well, that sure isn't the case any more. I wonder why they finally woke up?
Filled up at the Niantic, CT Costco on our way to meet family for dinner in Essex. Surprisingly to me, PUG much less than in MA, "only" $3.58/gal! I paid $3.94 at BJs in MA earlier in the week. People who note such things, continue to be surprised that the A7 runs electric when in the mood.

@laurasdada, CT dropped their state gas tax temporarily, I think it's 25 cents, when prices were high. On the other hand, I saw their electric rate is going from just over 11 cents per kilowatt hour to 24 on Jan 1.

@benjaminh - I haven’t watched the video yet, but would think that would start the “days out of service” clock for any lemon law which might apply, but if he went that route, would probably only get a refund of what he paid and not a profit on the sale. Sandy, it’s probably more of a blessing that the timing didn’t work out. I don’t think you’d be happy with a 2 door MINI hardtop versus the other vehicles you’re considering.
And if you do really want a MINI, it’d be cheaper to buy one locally anyway. Dealerships around here are starting to get some inventory…you may be able to find one sitting on a lot near you.

The last time I was getting the truck serviced a portion of the dealer's front row was all new inventory. It was only 25 cars at most and I don't know how many were already spoken for but they've only been filling that area with used inventory for almost 2 years.

Just read an article in the local paper that gas prices are going up in Colorado, as our one refinery will be going off line for a few months for repairs due to extreme cold snap we had a couple weeks ago.
Assuming the tech in those videos is speaking the truth, this is a very big problem for Ford with huge cost implications. Given that head gasket sealing is a basic but critical sort of thing for engine design you have to wonder how this got tested and approved initially.
Then there's the uniformly reviled dry clutch DCT. Farley is spot-on, but in addition to improving quality Ford will have to convince the buying public that the quality of their products has actually been improved.
You mean quality being job one isn't a first-time thing? There's reason to be doubtful?

I would be beyond furious if this had happened to me. I related this story a few years ago; a friend of mine in our small group at church is a diehard Corvette enthusiast, andin 2015 he bought one of the first C7s. While he was looking at the car that he ended up buying he asked the sales guy if it had Magnetic Selective Ride Control and the sales guy said yes. He bought the car and-just like the two Car and Driver C7 Corvettes(Lightning Lap and Long Term), his C7 needed a new engine- at 6000 miles the rod bearings were shot. To add insult to injury, while looking at his disassembled pride and joy in the service bay the tech told him his car did not have MSRC. The dealer stepped up and let him trade for a car with MRSC at an extremely good price because he was a loyal long-time customer. That C7 has been flawless.

I'd hope they find something went wrong that wasn't the engine's fault. If I had found out an engine just grenaded itself due to no other outside factors at low mileage, I'd give up on the platform entirely.

to be fair to Chevy, 52 miles is an unusually long haul to get home from the dealership. I'd imagine the average dealership to home distance is far less then that!!!!!

"....They predict new-vehicle total sales for 2022 to reach 13,687,000 units, an 8.4% decrease from 2021. Such numbers would be considered calamitous in normal times; not long ago, the auto industry enjoyed annual sales of 17 million or more for five straight years. But parts shortages – particularly microchips – have forced automakers to cut production, despite the irony of strong consumer demand. Production levels are slowly increasing, but they have a ways to go....
The average price in December is expected to set a record of $46,382, an increase of 2.5% from a year ago. Buyers are on track to spend nearly $48.2 billion on new vehicles in December, the third-highest level ever for the month, which typically sees brisk vehicle sales. Total retailer profit per unit – including grosses and finance and insurance income – is on pace to be $4,144. That is down 19.8% from a year ago, but still more than double 2019 levels...."
I don't subscribe to the WSJ, and so I can only read the headlines and first paragraph of stories there, but four days ago there was this story that said that the chip shortage has suddenly ended.
If that's true for the chips needed in consumer vehicles as well, we can expect that vehicle sales in the US will rise from the low level of 13.7 million this year to 17 million or more in 2023.

I went car shopping yesterday as son needs a car in January. Local Mercedes Benz dealership I have used in the past had a new C class for about $49,700 with discount about $47,500. Lease at 36/12K with $2,000 down was $772. Ridiculous numbers. Called BMW dealership which is near by and a friend recommended a sales person. This person said limited 530i units available as people are obtaining this vehicle for their end of the year portfolio. I could could not come by, but asked if lease numbers could be sent to me. No, I had to come to dealership. Today will try Volvo as they are having deals. Will update my experience.
Big birthday today. My Maverick turns one. I got it NYE last year. Time flies. about 5,800 miles on it, and per the TC has averaged just over 28 MPG. only 1 trip to the deal back in July for an oil change.
maybe by next NYE I will have a blue hybrid version with some extra goodies instead!
I do get to help with some shopping. My DIL to be (son's fiancée) has a Honda Fit that was leased, and that ends in July. so already discussing options to replace it.
@au1994 -I was to take daughter’s 4xe in for recalls but it would not start. Initially the dash lit up like Christmas lights and then the interior lights flickered and then nothing at all. I called for a tow. Jeep dealer tried to jump it and said it would not start. They said they updated several modules and was now working. It sure seems like it experienced the “lack of motive power” but thankfully in my driveway and not while my daughter was away at college. Everything now updated and I drove it to Indianapolis as a trial run so that if it failed, it was with me.
I took in my 4xe and all updates were done. I had experienced mild death wobble and they replaced the steering dampener and said that all four shocks were bad. The shocks are on order. I need to confirm that they checked the lower ball joints and track bar as I had tightened the track bar bolt in my driveway and the death wobble went away for a couple of weeks but then returned.
It was odd that when I called to schedule the vehicles for service, my Jeep went into death wobble. The service writer said he could hear it on his end and I didn’t need to make a camera video…
They are 15 months old. The loss of motive force was a recall. The death wobble is a known entity with vehicles with solid front axles. It is usually something loose in the front end. I’m just glad they are fixing it. My 18 Rubicon had it too and the dealership said “could not replicate” so I pulled an @breld and traded it😂

Insane price on that lease, back in the day you could get a loaded E sedan with MSRP of 70K for that much or less. Heck, in late 14 I leased a pleasantly optioned leftover 14 E350 with MSRP 63K, 1500 up front, 490/month + tax.
I know National and Sixt fleets seem to have a number of 530i, and I have read about numerous brand new X5 hitting those fleets. I wonder if this is a weird case where fleet buyers are rolling over and are more profitable than consumers.
On the chronic car buyer front, my friend who bought the CT6 not long ago has tons of buyer's remorse, he fell out of love fast. Complains about the ICE and says it is just too big. He told me he has cleaned out the interior and is going car looking today, knowing it is the last day of the month and last day of the year. He spotted a Regal Tour X at a dealer local to him, and he's going to check it out. I told him he's going to lose his shirt, he seemed to realize this.
I can't remember the make/model (the lease boards have been pretty busy the past week or so), but someone reported a quote on a $57K vehicle - $8500 up front and almost $1000/mo.

How do you figure that? Are dealers determined to never again be in a situation where the lease buy out gives the customer such high positive equity?

A local MB dealer is advertising lease deals on a new EQS SUV. $799/month, $9,999 down. Or work in that down into the monthly and you’re looking at $1,215/month. With an MSRP of $112,495, the monthly is 1.08% of MSRP.
Boom…these lease deals do exist. Don’t all rush over to your MB dealer at once…save one for me.

quick math, that is almost $45K paid over a 3 year lease. It would have to have the residual of a salvage title Yugo to get that bad.

I do like the Mazda XC-30 but hate, really really hate their infotainment controls. They really stink and need to be "dumbed down" like my Golf. Our A3 has a similar infotainment system and it's also annoying. Luckily, I don't drive it that much as it's not my vehicle.

I had no idea that you were ready to get something as you were last talking about Toyota or Hyundai/ Kia and cheap to keep and were looking to buy a 2024. I suspect that @breld thought the same
It was only four or five years ago that I commented on the fact that the spread was still ten or fifteen cents from regular to mid-grade to premium, just as it had been when gas was a dollar or so a gallon many years ago. Well, that sure isn't the case any more. I wonder why they finally woke up?
People who note such things, continue to be surprised that the A7 runs electric when in the mood.

CT dropped their state gas tax temporarily, I think it's 25 cents, when prices were high.
Hopefully they are providing a loaner or rental if it’s not usable.
With a video like that, he is bound to end up getting mentioned by Alex Jones again. “This younger generation and their darn battery powered cars… get off my lawn!”
And if you do really want a MINI, it’d be cheaper to buy one locally anyway. Dealerships around here are starting to get some inventory…you may be able to find one sitting on a lot near you.

NG and electric rates are also increasing exponentially here in MA.
Warmish temps for a few days here, gave the A7 a bath. Still NuFinish shiny. I think it's too cold to throw a coat of Z-6 on it, plus rain's a'comin.

I have to watch that. I know they sold the lightning to the Chevy dealer. If so how is it his problem?

I know I have missed out on cars I really wanted but in each case I ended up with something better. Two examples are my M235i as well as the C43.

I drove the V8 twin turbo RS7 950 miles home after the purchase. No weird sounds. No engine failure…
Took the whole fam out in the Wagon R this evening. Much griping before getting in but no real complaints while cruising. “Feels like sitting in a truck.” Hmmm… ok.
I forgot it is a 3-spd. We found out it ain’t gonna cruise over 60 mph for extended periods. It is screaming at about 6k RPMs.

And quite a difference between a buzzy 4 cylinder, and a big block V8.
If that's true for the chips needed in consumer vehicles as well, we can expect that vehicle sales in the US will rise from the low level of 13.7 million this year to 17 million or more in 2023.

"Chip Inventories Swell as Consumers Buy Fewer Gadgets
Semiconductor companies slash production plans amid weak demand
By Asa Fitch, Dec. 27, 2022 5:30 am ET
The world is now awash in chips. The oversupply marks a sharp turnaround from a global shortage during two years of supercharged demand. Consumer appetite for electronics has weakened against a backdrop of rising interest rates, a falling stock market and recession fears. Chip inventories are swelling, mirroring what is happening in the wider economy where retailers are stuck with goods on their shelves and producers of a range of products in high demand early in the pandemic now face a glut...."

That's pretty bad for a nearly new vehicle.

Death wobble is fixable
We are the beta testers though
I’ve seen videos of the death wobble. Scary stuff.

or less.
