Got to register my Q8 today, so I quickly got down to one temp plate!
So I’m really curious about this…when I bought my 840i, CPO a few months ago, the dealership gave me a Carfax (had me sign it, in fact) that showed no accidents. It was dated the day of the sale. When I traded it for the Corvette, the Chevy dealership came back and said the carfax showed a minor accident and five owners (I thought I was the 3rd owner). That accident was from over a year ago.
What gives?
Sometimes it takes a while for something, be it an owner or accident, to hit. If it has had 5 owners there were some in quick succession that I guess the DMV and CarFax couldn’t keep up with.

Yeah, I’m more curious and just a bit aggravated. The Chevy dealer didn’t really ding me for it.
The Carfax from the BMW dealer (physical copy, which now makes me wonder), showed 3 owners and no accident. The current Carfax now shows an Owner #4 prior to me, with a minor accident from a year ago.
A few years ago a friend got a buy back from CarFax on a Fusion he bought from CarMax. Follow that?
There was an accident that popped up within 30 days and he had them buy it back. Can’t for the life of me remember why he the CarFax was run again. He wasn’t trading it, seemed like it was in for a service and something popped up.

I bought a 7 month old BMW in 2003, that was a BMW corporate owned car, and had just gone through Manheim auction. Independent dealer in Chicago had it on eBay, and I bought it from him. Showed a clean carfax.
Three months later, it has a ding on carfax, and my local BMW dealer pulled up their info, and it turns out it suffered $4000 in body damage, while BMW corporate owned it. That was probably disclosed at the auction, and was maybe why a BMW dealer didn't buy it.
Happened on our X1 dealer loaner. They never disclosed an accident to us. Carfax was clean. Fast forward 2.5 years to a couple times I thought about trading it and carfax showed a major accident during the loaner service. Entire front end, airbags, etc. reached out to the dealer and they confirmed it - no explanation for why it wasn’t disclosed.
I’ve always been confused by the 1LT, 2LT designation on Chevys. I assume they denote trim levels but what’s the difference? Is there a 3LT and why designate the performance package as Z51?
Yeah, I’m more curious and just a bit aggravated. The Chevy dealer didn’t really ding me for it.

A little easier to operate than a roll up one. Tradeoff is you lose space at the head of the bed. Non issue for me as I don’t ever haul anything that big… plus it would only take 5 mins to take off if needed.

I do - my guess is me signing it is to protect them more than anything. It demonstrates there was a clean Carfax at the time of purchase.
I sent a kindly worded email to the manager I worked with to ask how that can happen, just for my own benefit. I’m curious what the response will be (if there is one at all), but I fully suspect it will be boiler plate, “things can appear on the Carfax long after an incident occurs…”
It’s all good…lesson learned. And I really like the Corvette.
I looked at a few Carfax reports and the latest entry is one showing the vehicle for sale at the dealer it is currently up for sale at. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I had to run by the office today to update a victim on a court case and found that a friend had dropped off a hardcover book on BMWs. as well as some issues of the old BIMMER magazine. It was a book that I didn't have in my BMW library (which currently consists of about 70 books) so today was a good day!

I took my son to the airport today (he had to get back for the South Carolina-Clemson game) in the C43. There's an entertaining double apex decreasing-radius on-ramp on the way. After I clipped the second apex I nailed the throttle. The handling is dead neutral with absolutely no drama- it just goes. The only downside to this handling capability is akin to an issue I saw at track events when the E36 M3 was new; the limits are so high that if you do lose it you likely won't be able to catch it.

With a bit of snowfall over this weekend, the Corvette will remain in the garage, but it was close to 70 degrees on Wednesday so had the chance to get it out a bit. It’s way beyond anything I’ve ever owned or driven, and somewhat beyond anything I realistically thought I’d own. When my wife and I would speak of a true “dream car” I would always say an Acura NSX. This Corvette fulfills a lot of what drives that desire, but at a more attainable level.
The thing I’m most impressed by (which is what led me to actually buying it) is the relative comfort of the driving experience. It’s obviously a full on sports car, but the compliance of the ride is impressive. I suppose the magneride helps with that, though the manager at the dealership said the standard suspension does a nice job as well. Visibility isn’t much of an issue with the addition of more modern technology (blind spot monitoring and a digital rearview camera). The interior materials have a very high end feel to them.
And pretty much everything I’ve had from a fun, sporty car perspective has had turbochargers involved, other than the couple Miatas. This V8 is such a unique treat.
