$23k is the HIGH trade in

Thanks, Q. I appreciate it. It actually has the 17" wheels (I preferred the style, so that probably knocks another few hundred off).

T, you ever look at the Acura RL? Seems that it might fit your criteria for size (if not too small!) and ride, etc.

Just occurred to me, since there was one across the street a few minutes ago. I also suspect the dealers are practically giving them away, and you might be able to work out an interesting trade/lease deal on one.

Assuming he would have been offered less, how much less?

They didn't have Car Fax back then and the appraiser may not have noticed that the car had been properly repaired as it certainly was.

You don't know that answer and neither do I. This is why this is such a vague thing and so hard to put a finite number on.

The world isn't always "fair" and we can't expect to be compensated for every contingency.

Actually, never have. I always just figured being Acura it would be on the sporty side of things. Even with incentives I think it would be out of my price range.

I really don't know what to replace the Genesis with. There aren't many choices in the large car category with the ride I want.

The most obvious choices are the Avalon (had an 06 and loved it), the Town Car/Grand Marq, or a Caddy Deville/Buick Lucerne. With the exception of the Avalon these are all older outdated models. I know I would be happy in a Town Car or Avalon because I've owned them in the past.

The Azera should fit the bill. Very much a korean Avalon!

interestingly, a know a guy that works for Hyundai corporate, and always has stuff early (I tended to see new stuff in person 3-6 months before it was released for sale). When he first had a Genny (V8), he raved about the power (not that doing 100 on I295 was a smart idea!), but said overall he preferred the Azera.

Thats right. I drove an Azera prior to getting my 06 Avalon. It was a nice ride. At the time I just preferred the Avalon. It will definately be worth a look.

If you like a roomy car, the Acura RL might not be to your liking, either. I remember sitting in them in the auto shows, and while they were fine up front, the back seat was cramped and the trunk seemed tiny. IMO, the TL actually seemed a better choice! Now this was the 2004-2008 era TL, not the current one, which I thought got bigger on the outside, without any real benefit of interior room.

Is the Acura TSX worth 3k more than a similarly equipped Accord EXL [both with auto+4cyl]?

The TSX is worth more than it's Accord counterpart if you value performance. I drove a TSX Tech 4 cyl & V6 NAV Accord EXL & bought the TSX.

I love that color combo! I especially like the black carpet. The A4 I leased had ivory carpet and ivory floormats, and I had to get a set of black all-weather floormats to keep it looking clean.

Y'all see the mail truck in the back there? That's an LLV(Long Life Vehicle) but I had my accident in a FFV(Flex Fuel Vehicle) which is more squarish ib the front & back. I hit the tree so hard that the front grille was bent around it, but it was a huge palm tree. Still get the "willies" when I see a vehicle!

Nice vehicle there with a great color...saw a nice blue one when I was at the Hyundai store last week. The Eqqus was simply outstanding! :)

Over in the Azera forum there were a lot of unhappy owners seeking a solution to suspension problems that caused a disappointingly uncomfortable ride. Hyundai seemed unable or unwilling to come up with a fix. Dunno if that was finally addressed or just ignored given the Azera was essentially discontinued for a year.

Its actually a very dark brown, you wouldn't know it unless you have seen the black interior Genesis. I've had the ivory floor mats, very hard to keep. I always kept a plastic mat on top of the mat.

I remember reading about that. I believe eventually it was something with the struts. The Azera has a much softer ride than the Genesis.

As far as Hyundai has come, there does seem to be a fair amount of complaints about their suspensions. It seems as if they can't find the balance between too soft and too firm.

Wow, I just noticed that E55 wagon. Extremely rare car, maby 150 units sold in the US that year, and it's a rare color too, I would be surprised if more than 20 match that car. It is kind of miled up for age, maintenance will be steep, but the 05-06 E55s seem to be better than the 03-04s. It won't be like caring for a Camry, but it wouldn't be like driving one either.

If it had half the mileage and maybe more options (I see it lacks parktronic at the least), I'd even give it a look. I like rare.

If I was seeking an AMG W211, personally I would want a P030 package E63, or an E63 wagon, which is even rarer than the E55.
  • gouldngouldn Member Posts: 220
I really wish I had never seen that link; that car really calls to me. Yeah it's overpriced and has a lot of miles, but you don't see many of those going up and down the street.

I've had great luck with the reliability of the 07 BMW ... but I think an AMG with lots of miles is just teasing fate too much.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,596
You'd want it for a pleasure vehicle, not a high mileage commuter.

It might not be too overpriced, I don't know if books can accurately judge something so rare. It's not a sedan, it will be worth a little more.

I think the color might be "graphite", which was IIRC a designo color, so it could be nice inside too. Shame those miles make it risky. I like it anyway, but it takes more than that to get me out of my paid off car.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,788

If it was so rare that it only traded between private parties at auction or something, then yes, I could see your point. But in this case, its at a dealer, so it is just a simple used car transaction.

    But where are the comparables?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,788
I couldn't tell you. But if the folks working Galves couldn't find comps, they would state so and I wouldn't be able to generate a value (I've seen this happen before). So I can only assume comps have gone through the auction block somewhere in the country. Yes, it is an assumption. But, at least here in the northeast, you can be sure a dealer wouldn't pay much more than what Galves tells him/her to pay. So, again, I say if its at a dealer, I wouldn't be looking to make the dealer rich off of my money.

Yes certainly, for the mileage alone the price should be negotiable, but I am not seeing cheaper E55 wagons on the market anywhere, in fact, that's the cheapest one I have yet to see. One might be able to get 15% leeway on that price, but I can't see much more. Where can one buy cars at Galves prices, or how do they tabulate prices for cars where maybe 100 or so units were sold per year?

Haven't had an oil change since last August and found a special over at a local Honda store for $9.95 so can't pass it up. My driving has slowed down to about 150 miles per month now and even though the oil life monitor only says 50% left, figured I'd just have it done. Planning on keeping the car for many years so the great price is just an added benefit to me.

I've had the oil in my 318ti, X3, and Mazdaspeed analyzed and the results show that the BMWs can go 8000 miles between oil changes while the Mazda is good for at least 7500 miles. Note that I'm running Mobil 1 in all three vehicles - 0W-40 in the ti, 5W-40 in the X3, and 5W-30 in the MS3. I'd think that any name brand conventional oil would be good for 5000 miles in most any non-turbo application.

My boy really wants it & when he completes his AmeriCorps stint in 2012, think he'll get it. Unless we just give him his bond $ to buy his own entry level car. He's in St. Louis & since we didn't want him to have a car in the city, I said no to him in December. But I'm open if things change for him...that'll mean I'll have to get something for me. Even though the wife would hate it, I then could check out a low miled RX330. And with the miles I drive now, it would be worth the extra $ to me to have my 1st luxury car with better seats & that higher up driving position. Hummm, this could just be the ticket for me. But Fezo, you'll be 2nd in line, how's that?

Absolutely, my mechanic uses a dino based synthetic blend which should work for a once per year change cycle. And tomorrow, I'll get whatever oil Honda uses and a genuine Honda filter. Don't really need a true synthetic for the kind of driving I do...or do I? Wonder if they'd just give me the discount towards the synthetic oil? I'd be happy either way though!

I wouldn't think so; I use synthetic because BMW specs it for the X3 and in the case of the Mazda I want an oil that is suited for the high temperatures encountered in a turbocharged motor.

I would bet your service section says 'change at one year'. And with modern oils, driving the low milages you indicate, that's what I would do. $10 saved for 4 months is $10 saved for 4 months.

P.S. I'm ashamed to tell you how little miles I've put on my Corvette, and it needs it's 1 year change. I thinkg the oil percent is at 94%.......

Was at the dealer at 6:45 this morning for the oil change/tire rotation where the guy pushed the 30k service...but I declined it since I've done a bunch of that stuff already. Already swapped out the brake fluid & a couple of air filters but nothing with the tranny fluid or the coolant fluid as of yet. Do I really need this stuff done? I will check the owners manual to see what they say, because my driving pattern has drastically changed since I was sent home in October. And also don't want to spend excess $ right now either.

Went to the tire place also, a Tire Kingdom instead of my regular Tires Plus, as I thought my tread was looking a bit low & Lincoln's head is visible now all around. The guy said the wear bars are almost showing but he thinks I still have a good 4k to 6k of tread left. The only reason I'd buy new sneakers would be if the car starts to hydroplane once the rainy season starts in May. Since my truck accident that happened back in 2005 was caused by hydroplaning, at the 1st sign of any skidding or whatever, my current tires would be history! But the Tire Kingdom guy, who's the store manager, said he give me "a good deal" once the time comes, whatever that means.

I dunno, I think I'd be proactive on the tires, sandman. Worst case scenario is that you have an accident the "first" time you hydroplane. Wouldn't want that to happen, and $300-400 for new tires is money well spent.

I got the new shoes for the ION at a Tires Plus - they were the only place open on Sundays. Got a decent deal - bought 3, got the 4th free. Check around and see who's doing deals .. you can probably pit stores against one another to see how low you can go.

Also, I noticed in another thread that you were born in Peekskill. That's where my father was born and raised, though he's been in California for 50+ years now.
