I thought I was getting the Pilot back today, but I guess they messed up the paint color. They told me that while Honda has beautiful colors they are the hardest to match and of course the Polished Metal is even worse.

So maybe tomorrow, I have the rental until Friday, longer if needed. I've come to kind of like the Tahoe, if it had heated seats, a sunroof, and homelink I'd hate giving it back.

That Phoenix Yellow is the worst possible color IMO for the E46 M3. I used to not like Laguna Seca Blue, but it grew on me & now it is one of my favorite colors.

There'll be other E92 335i Coupes out there for you. You just haven't found THE ONE yet. The car Gods made you hold firm .on your $21,000 bid.

I told you what an awesome vehicle the Tahoe is. Every household should have one. My Dad's LTZ has heated & cooled seats, sunroof, & homelink.

This is truck month - 0% financing for 60 months. maybe stamp your CCBA card?

    tifighter,

I have a '95 E320 Cabriolet (bought new, MSRP $79,000)..... Polar White, grey leather and black convertible top. It has about 38,000 miles on it so it would average at about 2,375 miles per year. I think it'll last for a while!! LOL! Probably worth about $12,000 now? No since in selling it, I would rather use it as a door stop than let it go for nothing!

BTW, the '64 RR Silver Cloud III had about 86,000 miles when I bought it and now has about 91,000.

Considering I bought 2 vehicles last month, the '11 Pilot and the '95 Escort I don't think my card needs punching again.

Only thing I can see happening in the next few months is possibly selling the F-250, really aren't using it as much as we thought we would. I think we've put 1300 miles on it since October.

and -if that wasn't bad enough- it boasts what is possibly the most nauseating color combination I have ever seen.

My Gawd! I'm glad I haven't had breakfast yet, cuz it's possible it would have been all over my keyboard and monitor.

Isn't there some sort of system in place at BMW that prevents abominations like that from being built? Be in computer or human, someone or something has to say "Nein! Ve vill not build this car in these horrible color combinations!"

But, there's an [non-permissible content removed] for every seat, apparently.

Wouldn't feel too bad about losing by $100 on ebay. The bidder may have had a top bid of 25k to seal out most sensible bidders. Auctions can be crazy. Was bidding on a golf video and two guys bid the cost up for a used one to $68. Bought it brand new for $58 from a seller in the same search list. :confuse:

Yeah, that is one hideous color. The interior would work OK with another color I suppose.

was that ebay coupe a sport pack? If so, the buyer stole it. Even if not, its still a heck of a deal at about $2k over trade.

The interior on that M3 looks like my 350Z did. But, good god, with "limon" exterior?! Oh no!

LOL, good to know. I have had thoughts this past week of putting the Pilot up for sale after I get it back. I guess I'm just a bit obsessive about not driving a vehicle that's been in an accident. Yes, it kept me safe, yes its being repaired with all brand new Honda parts, no dents pulled at all. Even with all that it still bothers me. Guess I'll see how I feel when I get it back.

If they can get the paint to match and get the cigarette smell out of it I might get it back today. Why any body shop would allow smoking in and around customer vehicles is beyond me. Had I known that to begin with they would have NEVER gotten my business.

:( I couldn't agree more. But I admit that at first I was thinking you deserve the highest honor of CCB's and to replace the Pilot already in light of what happened to it and to question its ability to protect you in future, was a bit excessive in the worry department.
    BUT!
If someone SMOKES in my car, they BOUGHT it! I would be livid. They would have to pay me 3 grand and I would vent the car with lowered windows for the following year. If they smoked in it windows up for any length of time, then I will need the 3 grand PLUS a brand new headliner. And you could be sure that THEN they would get it, and smokers around customer's vehicles after that would be fired. Yes, fired.

There is simply no excuse on any planet for smoking in enclosed spaces around customer's cars. Especially when it is virtually brand new AND an obvious non smoker's vehicle. Very sore point with me. You have my sympathy x 10.

I'm devistated by what has happened to my brand new car. However, for me and my daughter its more than just an annoyance. I have asthma and am allergic to cigarette smoke, my daughter has cystic fibrosis and cigarette smoke is horrible for her. I cannot be in a vehicle that has been smoked in and/or around, neither can she.

I spoke with them earlier today and after 2-3 repaints they still cannot match the color. They keep downplaying the cigarette smoking issue, apparently they don't understand its not just something petty, its a HEALTH issue for me and my daughter.

I have no idea how this is going to end up. I have to give the rental back on Friday. What a nightmare this has become.

We never tried to check out the focus in person. Gee lost interest once he found you can't get one with a stick and a sunroof. Manuals are getting harder and harder to get with any decent options.

You can get a Focus SE with manual and a sunroof as well as a 4 cyl/6 speed manual Fusion with a manual. Interestingly, you can't get a Mazda6 stick with a sunroof, as far as I can tell.

The body shop called this afternoon and I drove down to look at the Pilot. I could see right away that their color matching wasn't even close on the bumper. Not sure this pic will show it very well, but in the sunlight it looks bad to me. They are going to redo the bumper and hopefully I'll get it tomorrow.

Looking at pictures isn't the real world, but I hope the match is better than what the picture looks like.
In the picture, the side of the vehicle looks blue (ish) and the bumper and tailgate look grey.
But the bumper and tailgate do have a good match...

The bumper and liftgate were what they painted. Yes, they match, but unfortunatly they don't match the rest of the car. The bumper is more off than the liftgate, they are telling me its because the bumper is plastic and they can't make it match. Funny......the car wasn't 2 colors when I bought it.

Makes me wish I had bought black or even the dark blue instead of Polished Metal Metallic.

At this point I'm hoping for close enough to be able to sell it. I think I'd be happier with it if I had left the damage alone.

one reason I would not pick one of the light, silvery metallics on our next car.

Oh, who am I kidding. It will be my wifes car (the family truckster) and will be whatever color she wants. Probably something a little darker though.

I guess I never thought I'd get into an accident right after I bought the car. I certainly don't make a habit of it, last accident I had prior to this one was 17 years ago. I hit the mailman......well, he pulled out in front of me and I slid into him. Totaled his car, didn't hurt my Mazda B4000 at all, lol.

My next car will be a darker much easier to match color or something like our 95 F-250 that it doesn't matter if it gets hit.
  • ab348ab348 Member Posts: 20,401
A good body shop shouldn't have that much difficulty matching the color. My Buick is painted Quicksilver metallic and last summer the rear bumper cover was damaged. I wanted just the damaged spot repaired to minimize the possibility of a mismatch on the entire cover. The dealer said not to worry, they had technology that would match the factory color perfectly. And they did. You cannot tell it has been repaired. I don't know what they did, but it worked.

What is this smoking issue? I couldn't find the original reference to it. If that was my vehicle that they did that to, I would be extremely angry.

I just went on the website and it did let me build a SE with a 5-speed and a sunroof ... From what I recall, when Gee did it, it didn't let him.... or maybe there was an option he wanted that was only available on higher trims and the higher trims have a standard automatic. We may still be looking for a commuter car. Gee isn't sure about commuting in his Genesis and is talking about needing a daily driver. Our Camry is already at 21,000 miles in the 15 months we have had it.

We did a tally and we are now at 42 cars in 15 years ... I think I may be missing a couple. The first 10 years were primarily Honda/Acura products but we have had a definite shift the last five years where we owned 4 Honda/Acura products and 5 Lexus/Toyota products and now the Hyundai. Honda needs to get it's act together and get back to what made people such loyal customers in the 90's.

You may just have a point there. Of the cars we've bought since we've been together, how many of them were her idea?

'97 Escort - she needed something reliable to get her to and from a new job where the commute was about 18 miles one way. The '86 Tempo with 97K wasn't going to cut it.

'99 Expedition - wife woke up one Saturday morning (it was snowing) and declared "I want an SUV".

'99 New Beetle - as with most folks our age, the reincarnation of the Beetle struck a chord with her, so it's not too surprising that she wanted one

'05 VUE - wife wanted back into the SUV game (we'd had both the Expedition and and Explorer by this time) and was so enamored of the Saturn experience when I got my '03 L300 that it wasn't hard for her to land on the VUE

'06 ION - we wanted to get something for our daughter to commute to/from college in - almost got her a Sonata, but wife (again) thought the Saturn was a better deal.

'08 VUE - the '05 VUE stopped running one day; towed to dealership where they couldn't find anything wrong. Wife refused to drive it, so traded for the '08 VUE

'10 MINI - '06 ION was causing problems for daughter, so wife decided that she needed something "more reliable". Daughter picked the MINI, but it was my wife's decision to get something new.

So, which buying decisions were driven by me?

'02 Explorer - my decision to give up the Expedition lease early

'03 L300 - my car, my decision, start to finish

'03 Focus ZX5 - Ford offered to pay off the balance of the Explorer if we bought or leased another Ford product. Focus got better gas mileage and a lower payment.

'10 CX-7 - you know the story here, but was at my urging that this happened

So, 7 that originated with the wife and only 4 from me. Perhaps she should be the one posting here....

A good body shop shouldn't have that much difficulty matching the color.

That's what I thought, but wow, they have repainted it 2-3 times now and still can't match it. By far the worst experience I've had with a body shop and I really really should have known better. I used a different branch of this same body shop (they have 5-6 shops throughout the state) and they messed up other vehicles of mine. Maybe I'm just overly picky and add to that my wicked eye for color, yeah, odds are I'm not going to be happy.

What is this smoking issue? I couldn't find the original reference to it. If that was my vehicle that they did that to, I would be extremely angry.

I went back into the shop to check on my car, the doors were open and there was a guy standing next to it smoking a cigarette, of course the smoke goes right into my car. I briefly opened the door yesterday and didn't notice any smell other than paint, so hopefully it being in a closed shop with a bunch of smokers won't have a lasting effect. Really poor business practice imo. I'm going to change out the in cabin filter when it gets home.

I told the body shop yesterday they need to fire their detail crew, my car was so dirty. They said well, we just vacuum it out and wipe it down......lol, could have fooled me!

Amen to that! I have one of each and my son is awesome, has always been an easy going kid. My daughter........well, I call her mini-me for a reason!

When it comes to cars, my son is thrilled with his basic little 95 Escort, my daughter........she wants a Honda Element in red or orange, nothing else will do.

LOL, if you knew her you'd understand. A Honda Element is SOOO her, totally fits her personality.

On another note, I have my Pilot back. Returned the Tahoe today, picked up the Escort from the repair shop and then picked the Pilot up. All vehicles are back in the stable.......plus one, someone dumped a 4 wheeler off in our yard. We've tried to figure out who it belongs to, next step is to alert law enforcement since there is suspicion it may be stolen.

got a mailer from BMW about going to a driving event (at the local dealer) for the X3. Get a presentation, demo, nice long drive, and some freebies stuff (supposed to last for an hour total). Seemed like a good way to spend a lunch hour one day next week, so I signed up.

Hey, they invited me. Plus, we have started shopping for my wifes next ride, and this was on the short list (probably the wish list end of it based on price, but it is within plausible reason!).

she isn't attending with me of course, not her thing. She doesn't even like going to a dealer when we are actively in the market.

I'm pretty happy with the repair, they did a pretty good job in the end. If you didn't know it had been hit and repaired you wouldn't be able to tell. As for the smell, yes, they got it out thankfully. Its back to smelling like a brand new car with leather and a hint of new paint smell, lol.

Old Honda had refinement and quality at the top of the market. Hondas now are often met or exceeded in those areas. Hondas also used to be near the head of the class in engines and performance. And styling wise--- where Honda used to design boring, yet non-polarizing cars.. Hondas of today are like it or hate it. The 90-93 accord design still looks good, most Honda models have gotten beat with the ugly stick. I used to be Honda's biggest fan, my 09 accord cured that.

I agree about the boys. I have 2 boys (one 7 yr old and a 6 week old) and while they are more active than girls, boys tend to be lower maintenance down the line.
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,405
I always liked the 1994-95 Accord EX (only the EX had painted trim). The 96-97 had a different grille and taillights that I didn't like as well.

Some things never change--from what I hear, Honda still goes rather light on the sound deadening.

I agree - I had two of that era. Previous wife had a '92 LX, while I had a '93 DX when I first moved to Denver.

Wasn't it the '98 and up that went away from the double wishbone suspension? I think that was the beginning of the end for Honda as a technical leader. Now they're the same, engineering-wise, as the Fusion, Malibu, etc. In fact, I would opine that Hyundai now has the lead as innovators - GDI, turbo offerings, etc.

I attended the Denver Auto Show yesterday. I sat in the new '12 Focus (Titanium trim level) and was very, very impressed. Would have to drive one, but it's certainly one sharp looking ride.

One other car show note .. I sat in the Lexus CT200h ... have to admit that it's pretty nice inside.

I've seen some commercials for this, and Lexus is positioning it as a 'sporty' hybrid. I wonder how it drives. 43 city, 40 highway. But, a $31K price tag.

I believe you are thinking of the Civic. Don't hold me to this, but I am pretty sure my generation (a 2005) of the Accord still has the bones.

not that it really matters for a family sedan. Besides, the BMWs have used front struts for years. In many cases, it is not what you use, but how well you use it!

was out driving today with my wife and daughter (to the mall with a 15 YO girl! what fun!).

anyway, mentioned cars at some point (of course). and the wife actually said, relatively unprompted, "I want a new car soon". followed shortly after by "I want a BMW".

for some history, I actually ordered a 5 series in 2001 (a 525 stick shift). But by the time it arrived, I chickened out (the puritan tighta$$ gene is a powerful thing). And bought a used Maxima instead.

anyway, at the time, there were a couple of things I was not in love with about the BMW, but man, my wife wanted it bad. Even though it was to be my car. And as wives are known to do, she has not forgotten the sin I committed against her (by backing out of the deal).

I tried to spin the latest idea into me getting a 1 series convertible (my daughter was on board with that!) and her keeping the van, but that elicited a "I'm not very big on convertibles". Considering she always makes me close the sunroof when the sun is out, no surprise!

so, when the stars finally align (which may not be until Christmas, 2012!) the X3 is going to be at the top of the list.

the other idea she likes is a new Volvo XC60, with the Euro delivery vacation in sweden. And even if we get the BMW, I would do a spartanburg delivery and nice drive home vacation anyway.
