Enjoy the Tiguan. Preaching to the choir, do oil changes with the correct VW oil every 5k instead of 10k. My 18 Passat has a similar version of the E888 engine and takes Ow20 synthetic VW spec 508 oil.

    Congrats on the Tiguan!

I don't think I mentioned here, but on my recent road trip, the Maverick had two tanks that were right at 31 MPG, one at 28, and one at 26. I think the 26 MPG one involved some headwind headed out of Philly and a lot of stop and go driving. Not bad for something with such a square-ish frontal area. EPA rating on the AWD model is 22 city, 29 highway.

That’s great milage, much better than the old style Ranger I was searching for which is about the same size (4.0L 15 city 20 highway). Strangely, my 2013 F-150 with the 3.7L is rated at 16-21 mpg. which I guess is pretty good considering it’s 1300 pounds heavier.

Saw a fairly rare bird out driving this morning - an E63 S AMG wagon. Looked to be of the @fintail era, so maybe 4-5 years old max.

They were, predictably, hauling you-know-what given the lack of traffic. Bold move given that I passed no less than 6 unmarked WSP cars in 20 miles of driving.

Pre-facelift cars will be MY 2018-20. As far as I know, no outwardly discernable differences between years.

So. I don’t have an orbital, so I farmed out the polish and wax. Today was a rinse to get the pollen off.

To answer your question, my standard wash is Meguiars wheel cleaner (works wonders), a chemical guys PH neutral foaming wash, which I use to two bucket it. Then I dry and use griots ceramic spray on wax and RainX to protect.

I had a very close call on Saturday night. I had to pick up my 12 year old daughter from a Bat Mitzvah which ended at 11:45 PM. The place was in town, maybe 10-15 minutes from my house. I always drive extra cautiously late at night because of the deer population. I was in the Tacoma. The road I was on had a 25 mph speed limit. I wasn't going much faster than that. As the road curved to the right, I noticed a previous generation MDX barreling towards me in my lane at a very high rate of speed. Luckily the road was wide enough and I was going slow enough that I was able to pull off to the right and stop as he swerved back into his lane and avoided hitting me head on (offset). As the MDX swerved I saw his back end start to wiggle, but it stayed planted. Very scary.

The black arrow indicates the direction I was traveling:

Very scary, @nyccarguy - glad you're OK. This is why speed limits and rules about driving for conditions need to exist, because inevitably someone thinks it doesn't apply to them. If one person, the likelihood is a tragedy can be avoided.

There are many drivers who expect to go 80 MPH everywhere all the time and they get incredibly irate when they get into an accident and/or are told they are not driving appropriately for conditions.

@nyccarguy, good to hear you are OK. There seems to be more folks that drink and drive today than ever. Couple that with texting while driving and it’s a wonder there aren’t more accidents. I guess we have to be lucky to avoid not being in the wrong place at the wrong time because safe driving, on our part, isn’t always enough.

That is one of my biggest gripes, not driving for conditions, following too closely and aggressively changing lanes back and forth. Defensive driving is a must.

It's scary for us pedestrians, too. Walking doggie at noon, sidewalk ends, have to turn right and walk about 10 feet on the rural road to get to sidewalk continuation. Usually a non-event, not today. Woman in an older Rav4 is driving on the wrong side of the road, had my spidey-sense (ok, looking both ways before hitting the road) not kicked in...
As she passed us and swerved back to the US driving standard side of the road, I saluted her for her quick reactions.
Glad no NYC/Stamford folks or vehicles were hurt.

All you lease hackers out there. $14-16k of incentives on the bZ4X. A member in Colorado just posted a $74/mo deal - and the CO tax credit wasn’t used for that number.

EDIT - that may have been incorrect. The $5k CO credit makes this a roughly $200-250/mo. Still good for an almost $50k MSRP

In that MSRP range, I prefer the styling of the ID.4, but that's a tempting lease rate on the bZ4X. I'd rather not have a second car payment, though.

$72 a month barely qualifies. might save money not buying gas! would be perfect for our 2nd car, since I have to remember to go drive it occasionally to keep the battery charged.

There is a manual S4 Avant near me for $13k with 80k miles. I’d gladly take that for a fraction of the cost of that M5. I know it doesn’t compare, but for the price difference, I could manage.

Looks like I am an Alfa owner again. I didn’t get an email, but the car shows on my win page with a sale price a little over my limit. This is the 2nd time they took it upon themselves to push my bid higher on my behalf. I capped at $2200 and they went to $2296.
