Give it a few days and it'll feel more like broken in seat leather. And welcome back!

I don't like change much either. Hopefully this new software will be better. It looks odd but I will probably get comfy with it.

You put the list in a signature - haven't played with that feature yet. Ah, edit your Profile with the little "head" icon, and find Signature Settings on the left. I also put mine in my Profile. To do that, go to your Profile, edit it and under the Vehicle(s) box, type your cars in.

Thanks Stever, seems to have worked nicely. Figured I'd list all the vehicles in our stable since I helped pay for three out of the four...the wife and I purchase our own and have done this for the last couple of purchases. Seems to work out nicely so we can get exactly what we each want though now she told me I should've just kept the Civic and bought the BMW drop top for my toy! Wish she had said this a few weeks back since they dropped the price by a grand...coulda had both vehicles though the Civic would've had to be parked outside most of the time. But knowing her, if I had asked about doing this back then, she would've blown me out of the water...hindsight is always 100% better!

well, this should be fun. Will at least be easier to find my own posts, with my guide dog leading the way!

My kids are off the deep end. I am in NY tending to my parents (both of whom returned from hospital or rehab this week, which has been tremendous fun) and both kids are bombarding me with texts about looking at cars. Son is finding used BWMs, and daughter texting pictures of an ILX and a critique of the Jetta. I guess the apple really does not fall far from the tree.

I noticed these badges for number of posts as well as length of time you have posted. It says I joined October 31st. I have been posting since April, 2012. So they have gotten me down for length of time incorrectly. How does one get that corrected? In other forums I post, they have other dates, but less than a year - but I have been posting foe over 2 years in some forums. How doe I get those corrected?

The V70 was in the shop earlier this week for the dreaded PCV service, which is a topic of its own. Ended up having to leave it with them overnight, so I had a Mazda3 as a rental. It was a 2013, but a stripped non-SkyActiv model. A bit miled up at 30K, especially given a build date of 10/2012, but the HVAC fan was making a lot of noise. I've heard the stories of how rentals are abused and poorly maintained, but I don't think that should account for a fan motor sounding so sick after just 30K. And to be fair, it had brand-spanking-new tires on it, complete with the stickers still on.

But it definitely makes me think twice about the prospect of Mazda for my next ride.

It's actually much worse than that. That fat pension was dissolved and you now have an underachieving 401K. You are getting cost of living "decreases" so the longer you live the less you get. You have also been enrolled in the Affordable Care Act and your insurance premiums have tripled. Have a nice day !

I have noticed a tremendous increase in the number of email alerts about posts I am getting. It used to take 5-10 hours to get an email about a post- now it's instantaneous. Also, the old email notifications alerted you to who posted and an excerpt from the post. No more excerpts. So I just took them off my watch list and peek in every once in a while to read what is happening.

It must've just been a typo - it's a 2011. Other than hers being a 2010, that is exactly the same as my wife's wagon. Maybe they didn't know what they had on their hands, but we bought hers one year ago for about $32k - and it had 26k miles on it.

Wow, its been a while since I was here, the forums have changed a lot. I'm sure you guys have been busy buying up cars, I don't have time to go back and read but I have faith in my fellow CCBA members!
We've been busy getting ready for baby, only 5 weeks to go. The Explorer is around 8500 miles now, no real problems except a quirky nav which doesn't bother me. The Focus is around 33k I think, great car, no issues at all.

My son's 2011 Hyundai Elantra started acting up on him when he went to the mountains last weekend, lost a quart of oil somewhere, and started stalling. Thankfully it got him back to the base and to the dealer the next day. Turns out something in the bottom of the engine is warped and the engine can't hold oil. Parts are ordered.....about $3k worth.....and they told him they'd have the car done in a week or two. Using his USAA membership the dealer was able to get him a rental car even though he's only 19. I've been very impressed with Hyundai and how he's been treated. He's put 15k miles on that car with no issues, I think it's around 37k now. Guess that's what I get for being nice and sending new tires from the Tire Rack for Christmas. BTW, very impressive with how easy it was to buy him tires and have them drop shipped to the tire shop on base. All he had to do was drive over and have them mounted. I sure miss him since he's so far away, but I still try to make sure he's safe.

We should be making a punch or 2 in the old CCBA card next year, one for a 92-97 F-250 with a 7.5L 460 V8 for hubby and maybe one for a cheap car for daughter to commute to college with when I need the Explorer.
Oh and I've never driven such an impressive vehicle on icy and snowy roads as the Explorer, very impressive Ford.

Happy Holidays to you guys, now go buy a car!

    ****CHRONIC CAR-BUYERS' ANNONYMOUS PHILOSOPHY****

I was giving some thought to the fact that this forum is devoted to those of us who are just plain in need of psychotherapy because we would rather buy a new car than look for a new girlfriend/boyfriend, new TV, new house, new stereo system, etc., - or at the very least, go shopping for a car (whether we needed one or not) because it has become either a fetish or a passion to drive something new on almost a continuous basis.

So, I started to do some self analysis (we PhD types do that quite frequently) to determine the real reason I buy so many new cars. First, to be a chronic car-buyer, you have to have some relatively modest availability of cash and/or an outstanding credit score - or both! Without these resources (money and great credit) it's very tough to be a Chronic Car-Buyer. Next, there has to be something about a new car (or different car) that attracts you to shop for cars all the time. Whether it's because we get bored easily with a fairly new car because the grass seems greener on the other side of the fence, or because we can only be happy for short periods of time with a new car - and it becomes unavoidable that the fact that the car we currently drive just has lost its "attraction". Who knows - but remember, I am trying to analyze the true make-up of a Chronic Car Buyer.

Or, perhaps you are driving a brand new Chevrolet Corvette, and then GM comes out with a brand new "Stingray" like they just did. My new Corvette just doesn't measure up well to the new Stingray - so - off we go to the Chevy Dealer to make a deal on a new Stingray.

Or perhaps we have always had an internal aversion to "un-new" things. Or an aversion to a car that has less technological advances than the car we just passed in the showroom or saw on that TV Ad for the new model. Or, maybe, just maybe, we are inherently "unhappy" individuals who don't stay happy for very long after the purchase of our new car.

After extracting all these possibilities as to why we are Chronic Buyers of Cars, I think I have built a case for requesting that EDMUNDS assign a full time "HOST" who has an MD, PhD or at the very minimum, an MA in Psychology, Psychiatry or Social Work to better help this group of Chronic Car Buyers to better understand our predicament. After all, "...don't we all really need some help here?"

Sounds good, but what about those of us who drive beaters when we could afford to trade cars every three years? The most daunting thing to me about becoming a CCBAer is spending all that time shopping.

I got it - you analyze my needs and buy new cars for me. And we're all fat and happy. :D

I hope not! But I agree - I spend more time in dealer showrooms and on dealer lots looking at cars more than I spend shopping for EVERYTHING else. Perhaps I am the only one in need of a personal analyst.

I understand. The lining in my favorite sport coat (6+ years of regular use) just tore, and since I still like it and the rest of the coat is in good shape, I sent it off to be relined. Which will cost almost as much as the coat did to purchase. If it were a car, it would have been gone a long time ago!

I don't do this, but I would if just looking at cars was all that satisfying to me! I much prefer to drive them, but then my conscience kicks in and makes me feel guilty if I know that there is no chance I'm going to really consider buying it.

Then there's the fact that I build, fix, and maintain pretty much everything in my little world. When I get a new car, it seems out of place to me. I long for that first oil change, or that first set of tires (or even just a winter tire rotation), or even that first anniversary as simply being a milestone (wow; have I really had this car a year already?!).

So, combine that with my terribly practical/frugal side, and I don't buy cars nearly as often as I would like to buy them. Could I? Yes. I just don't. Mostly, I think I just get more satisfaction from knowing what is out there than putting it in my driveway. Oh, and I have a wife who isn't really a "car person" and is also practical/frugal, so she helps keep the lid on any serious emotional urges I might present (such as my temptation to trade up my Fiesta for an ST).

Corvette, I do believe we think the same. Yes, if a leather seat in my new car developed a tear or severe stain, the car would be traded for a more "perfect" specimen. But I have sent out my leather jacket I bought in Lake Arrowhead CA 22 years ago for repairs to the stitching. I am more attached to that jacket than I am to my car.

speaking of deals, got a quote today from the VW dealer in case I decide to go nuts and get one (was supposed to be my son, but the permanent job is moving at a snails pace, so might not happen this year.

anyway, I got a lease quote on a 2014 Jetta (new 1.8T engine!). A connectivity + sunroof package, so MSRP of $24,095.

true S&D (including DMV fees, tax, 1st payment) of $284/mo for 42, or $299/mo for 36. Both with 12K year. Does not seem too bad to me, considering you don't have to give them a dime until a month after you get the car.

Anyone have an opinion of this? I do need to go and actually drive one of course.

I've just always been a car nut. For a while I wanted nicer cars, but now it's more about getting new features, a new color, etc. For about the past 4 years I've only bought 1 a year...I'm trying to slow down.

My wife accepts my chronic car buyer fault - at least I don't gamble, drink, womanize or do any of the things that would be much worse for her. I've never put my family in a bad situation due to having money tied up in cars.

Anyway, I've strayed a bit from the why. It's some sort of defect I guess. :)

Well, I'm not a fan of anything Volkswagen because of reliability issues but since it'll be under
warranty the entire time if you go the 36 months, it MAY not be a bad deal.

They may be trying for a final push and offering some attractive deals. Need to know the CAP cost, Money Factors etc to know for sure.

    @abacomike
    Fun post.

My wife may be coming to accept the CCB 'problem' I have. The other day I mentioned needing new tires for the RDX and she said it really didn't matter. When I asked why, she said "We'll only have until next summer." I then asked why she thinks that, to which she replied "I don't know, it just feels like we've had it a long time." So now I'm looking forward to next summer, and I'm a skier.
