At some point, I'm going to have to get some butt time in a Mustang GT....2015 variety.
I haven't driven one, but I'm not shocked that the modern SHO is out of its element on the track. I don't think that's its intended purpose.
I look at it more like a sportier version of the Taurus--cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks.
A 4.3-sec Hyundai? How did I miss this one? Is this the 4200-lb sedan? If so, did you mean 5.3?

It is indeed a quick car, but 5.1 sec 0-60 is the best published result I've seen. Low 4 seconds is Vette territory, and quicker than our 5.0L Mustangs. Don't see how this Genesis is that fast.

Yes, I like small light cars; my only "barge"was my first car- a 1974 Monte Carlo. Right now the only larger cars I actually would want to own are the Alpina B6 Gran Coupe or the M6 Gran Coupe. My next car will probably be a Z4 M Coupe or Cayman S- unless BMW sees fit to offer a limited slip as a factory option on the M235.

A friend of mine's wife just leased a B7 X Alpina. I'll let you know what the buy out in 3 years:)
I saw an ///M6 Grand Coupe the other day. It's gorgeous!
Have you driven a current body style M5, M6, or M6 Grand Coupe? The same guy I referenced above also has an M5 (and an X5M), they are quite docile and not what I'd call your cup of tea;)

I'd agree, except for the fact that Ford pushes the "Performance Package" as if it was an upgrade to make the sled track ready:
SHO Performance Package
For the discriminating automotive enthusiast, Ford offers the SHO Performance Package, which offers package-specific tuning to the suspension - including unique dampers and springs - that goes above and beyond the standard SHO. Other upgrades are even stronger brake pads and track-tuned calipers, a re-calibrated steering system, the ability to completely disable stability control, a 3.16 final drive ratio for improved acceleration, extreme-duty cooling, 20-inch machined and painted wheels and 245/YR20 performance summer tires.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised about the brakes; my 1984 T-Bird Turbo Coupe had binders that were good for only one hard stop from 80 mph. Try it again within a minute or so and the pedal went to the floor before the speed dropped to 50 mph. The Fox body Mustang 5.0 was equally bad- or worse; I remember that they would pull away from my E28 535is on the front straight at Putnam, but once they had braked for Turns 1 and 2 they had to use the brakes sparingly for the remainder of the lap in hopes that they would be working again the next time they entered Turn 1...
For what it's worth, I actually REALLY like one Mustang- the Boss 302 Laguna Seca...

nope, sorry. I don't want to be a bench racer, but where have you heard this low 4-sec number? You realize that a standard Stang GT 5.0 is 420 hp, weighs several hundred pounds less, and is a half sec slower than what you are stating? I really think you misheard or misread a 5.3 number.

Brian....while I like the Genesis V8, the specs I've seen from Car and Driver has the R Spec doing 0-60 in 5.1 secs and about 14 sec 1/4s. And, that's with the way C&D load up the revs while holding the brake (not something that's good for the car).
I know my previous S4 (V6) and E92 335i (straight 6) would both easily outgun the Genesis V8 (yes, I've driven one). It woudn't take much effort to do that, either. My guess is a G37, a V8 Challenger/Charger would do it.
We were talking about a Ford Taurus SHO. That would meet or beat the R Spec. It's a V6 (turbo), too. Probably pick one of those up for well under $40K these days.
Mustang GT, Camaro SS, 'Vettes, etc will easily leave the Genesis R in the dust.
Not saying it's a bad car. It just doesn't come close to a sub 4.5 sec 0-60.

Graphicguy,
Car and driver has this V-8 Genesis at 5.1 sec in the 60... Another test had it at 5.0 sec. still very Fast
Your S4 at 330 hp and curb of 3800 should be quicker off the line. .
The R-spec Genesis 5.0 sedan is not meant to be a race car its a balance of Luxury, power and large interior room which for me at over 6'1 and 240 its perfect size inside.. not to mention ultra quiet from road noise.
Your wrong on both the Ford sho, and the G37, My son has the 2013 G37 with 330 hp. My Genesis is faster but G37 car is 400 pounds lighter and quicker off the line...
Unless there is a upgraded version on The ford SHO its 365 hp, and weights over 4,300 pounds that looks like a no contest on paper for sure.. Genesis is 300 pounds lighter and 64 more hp...
The challenger has 470 hp. Straight line race car and motor. Put this vehicle up against real sports cars.
Dollar for dollar the Genesis gives you a great bang for your buck. Thats all i'm geting at. If i wanted to race people i'd buy a real sports car....... not a Genesis.. LOL
The V-6 genesis is 333hp with a 8sp auto.. A very good buy for about 36 to 38 k.
The redesign 2015 has been getting rave reviews with its new and improved suspensions and new Tech features. When Hyundia first came out with its Genesis 5 years ago it was so far ahead of its competition in price and options. The problem was who wants to buy a 40k hyundai.. Looks like hyundai has done it again for 2015... Aol auto, and Edmunds have nice reviews on this upcomming model out at the end of this year.
The reason why i did not wait to buy a 2015 model was the big open grille in the front. To me it looks awful. Check out the reviews and pictures on this 2015.. The list of standard features / tech, and upgrade features/ warranty for the price is what makes this vehicle attractive.
Hope my friends over at the Mb dealership dont read this. They may cut me off with my good pricing for crossing the Hyundai line...

Oh, that's just mean. I like it!
Got me thinking about life after the E-GT (only 30 months left!). Ideally, I'd like to get two cars - one for delivery duty (beater) and another nicer car like the one above.

If I want a fast cheapish comfy cruiser sedan, I'll pick up another W210 E55 AMG - it predates the insanely complex suspension and electronics of later models, and is still good for 0-60 in 5-seconds flat. Insurance won't be bad, lots of DIY stuff, and a pristine one with very low miles won't cost more than 15K.
Thanks for pointing it out and thinking of me
. Yup - I saw that ad on the forum, and it's posted on the local craigslist.
I think it's a little high on price. He paid $16,000 for it a month ago, but personally I think he paid a little high, and I think he might find that out now that he's trying to resell it here in Denver. And at the end of the day, the black on black is a bit boring to me. There's another ZHP sedan locally - Imola Red over black, with about the same miles as this black one, listed for over $2k less.
I think I mentally exhausted myself in looking for a ZHP all these months. I'm now hot on a Honda product, like a Civic Si or Prelude. But, of course, give it a month or two and I'll be back on the ZHPs or something else.

Oh yeah - when I'm selling the 530i manual, or the 335xi manual, it's all about the rarity of the car and how you can't find anything else like it, and that's why it's priced higher than the book values. But then I get on the other side of the equation....aah, overpriced!
2024 Audi Q8 e-tron - 2017 911 C4S - 2025 BRZ - 2023 A6 Allroad - 2024 Genesis GV60 - 2019 Cayman
Other than adding the 1.8T to the lineup for 2014, I believe any changes were very minor. I believe there is a full refresh coming for 2015.
I have the 1.8T, 6-speed automatic model (Wolfsburg). Overall, I am very impressed with the car, other than wishing I had gone for a better equipped model (which, of course, is my own fault).
It's a large car, inside and out, which is why I got it. But it has a tight turning circle and is thus pretty maneuverable. Visibility is great - no blind spots to speak of, though I still would prefer a blind-spot monitoring system. VW is lagging a bit on some of those types of tech features - I imagine they'll start catching up soon.
The engine is magnificent. I think the 0-60 times are somewhere in the mid-7's, but by the seat of the pants, it feels very quick (for what it is) and passing feels secure and confident. And with that, MPG is impressive - I average in the low 30's, up to 40 sometimes on the highway. Not as great as a TDI, but not too far off, especially considering the cost of regular gas vs. diesel. Road noise is very muted - it's about as quiet a car as I've had.
The primary fault I have with it is it's not as athletic as some other offerings, such as the Mazda6, or even the previous model Passats. No doubt that is very intentional, and contributes to the comfortable ride. And, not having tested out all competitors in the class, I'm sure it's at least on par with most of the offerings.

I've driven the 650i Gran Coupe. I liked it OK- but my experience with a B7 Alpina and M Cars in general would make me relent with respect to my prejudice against big/heavy cars. The B7 I had for a couple of weeks was just astonishing...

This could be a positive or negative depending on which side of the Chronic Car Buyer you stand:

Then there is of course the obligatory link to their "Service Loaner Specials," which includes a 2014 X1 X-Drive with a $38,025 Sticker Price and a Sale Price of $32,995.

I think you said "up to six payments off" maybe you would only qualify for 3.
In Bradd's case, his lease is up in September, so all payments due before then would be waived (5 in total).
Any lease that is due between July and December can have a maximum of 6 payments waived. If the lease is due before that, up to 3 payments (April, May and June) can be waived.

It's way up north, but the new Infiniti Dealer in Dacano has a real nice CPO G Coupe - I think it's a 2012 with only 11k miles or so. My wife drove it when she was looking at the Audi TT on their lot. I was shocked when she returned from the test drive legitimately interested in the car. Just doesn't really seem her style, but she really liked it. Of course, in the end, the TT won out.

just got back from a 4 day trip of the near south (VA, SC, NC). Probably about 1,400 miles all together on the RDX. A fine road car. still needs a bigger tank though!
I forgot to reset the trip 2, but overall must have gotten just about 30 MPG (mostly highway of course, but a few around town stints). Highest legs per the trip computer was 32 (Rock hill SC to Burlington NC, about 120 miles), with 31.8 today (below Richmond to home near philly, about 260 miles). Running mostly around 70, but stretches at 75 and above. Got 29ish from home to Williamsburg on the way down.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
Those are outstanding numbers. My neighbor just bought a new CR-V and I don't think it will do any better (and it has a much less powerful engine).
I remember following my brother up I-95 a few years ago in NC, and he called me a few miles south of the Virginia border, advising me NOT to pass him, and to stay at the speed limit once in Virginia. He wasn't kidding. The 1st 10 miles into the state, we saw no less that 40 cars pulled over...
I suppose following the speed linit is good for mileage, no?
According to stuff.mit.edu/~jfc/laws.html, in VA, over 80 is reckless driving, and 90+ may get you jail time. The last time I was there, I had the cruise set at 70 because I saw a cop in the median every few miles.
I actually like their law that classifies failing to use a turn signal as reckless driving. I hope that one is enforced at least as well as their speed limit.
It's gotten better in VA. Just last month we cruised from northwest VA down I-81 and we had to slow down when we crossed into TN (70 to 65 for some 20 miles before going up to 70 again). Most people were going 75 in VA and we didn't see many cops.
The funniest part of that drive is hitting the 55 or 60mph speed limit sign in Knoxville - everyone goes 80 there.
@michaell
@kyfdx
Well now that the perennial cat is out of the bag about the pull ahead program, what would the mf & residual be on a 2014 X1 demo with 7,500 miles (36 months/ 12K per year)? I'm just curious;). Promise I won't go to the dealer until the car is due for service in another 6,000 miles;)

Actually, it doesn't matter ... base MF is .00130 and residual is 59% for 36/12.
Looks like $1500 in build out cash.
kyfdx can chime in on how the demo miles affect any of the above numbers.

The mileage is accounted for by lowering the residual a set amount per mile. That number has bounced around over the last 6 years... It was $0.15 per mile in 2008, $0.30 per mile in 2011. The latest anecdotal evidence is $0.20/mi., this year. If it is $0.20/mile, then 7500 miles will lower the residual an additional $1500.
All other lease terms should be the same. Of course, you should expect to negotiate a selling price on the demo that is at least $1500 lower than what you would get on a new unit. Hopefully, a lot lower...

A reporter would like to speak to a recent car buyer/shopper who delayed purchasing their car because of the cold weather. If inclement weather prevented you from buying a new or used car earlier this year, please send your daytime contact info to pr@edmunds.com no later than Tuesday, 4/29/14 at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET.
"delayed purchasing"
You are talking to the wrong crowd buddy:)

So says the guy who's looking to pull ahead his lease 5 months early.
Hey, not to throw cold water on your X1 excitement, but have you actually taken a close look at one?
I ask because you've indicated that your wife will drive it frequently with the kids - I wonder how big they are inside, and if the car seats will fit.
I still think a good sized sedan might be the best direction for you.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I'm going to stick with sedan shopping for now. Both my boys will be in elementary school next year, so most of the time, my wife will be solo, with our daughter on her day off, or taking both boys to school (2 miles from my house). Either way, there is definitely room for 2 booster seats or 1 LATCHed in car seat. I'm going to start test driving sometime in June and narrowing choices down so she can pick what fits her best. I might as well keep my 328xi till the end of the lease:)

There is just SO much wrong here.
How the hell did you determine the mileage?
Hey, a tape to aux adapter?! Way to sweeten the deal!
My biggest query: Why does it have a temp tag??! I'm thinking he bought it to resell it. But, man, better have been darned cheap to justify the tax and DMV fees you are throwing away.
BTW, wheels are terrible and those seat skins are looser than grandma's neck skin.

Front bumper is scratched, it's missing the cover for the tow hook, missing front plate bracket and the bumper is torn all to heck underneath, wheels are ugly as sin, rear bumper beat up, left rear door beat up, trunk carpet torn up, spoiler is tacky and broken, and the grille is messed up. Cooling system looks original. What a turd.
