Great forum! A dealer here in the Puget Sound region told me today that residuals in the western region increased 5% today. Can you confirm? What would would that make the MF and residual for a 2016 Rex for 12k miles at 30 or 36 months in this region? Thanks.
We don't get any mid-month updates to the numbers we have, sorry.
The dealer can't modify the residual value, so if it went up, that's good news for you if you're in the market.
Thanks Michael. For your West Coast readers, I confirmed the following with a second Seattle-area dealer today:
"Yes, the residuals went up 5% more than the July 1 percentages across the board. For a 12k lease, the residual is 67% for 30 months; 65% for 36 months. 70% for 24!"
These appear to be in effect in WA, OR and CA through the end of July. Pretty cool!
Did you notice the price went up? Your link shows $98/mo.
So, it's the selling price minus the $7500 lease credit, minus the $3794 downpayment for a CAP cost of $33,385. .00137 MF and 66% residual for 24mo, 10K/yr.
With that, I get a payment of $82/mo. +tax, not $98/mo.
But, if you amortized that downpayment + the $925 acq.fee + $80 doc fee, the actual payment would be closer to $288/mo.+tax. So, in reality, you could get out the door for about $300/mo, with maybe $900 due at signing. That's pretty cheap for a $50K MSRP vehicle, but it's not $98/mo. (or, $35/mo.).
Am interested in the 2016 BMW i3 REX for 30 months/10k miles. Here's what a dealer gave us (bay area/norcal): MSRP $49,494 Selling price (before tax and fees): $43,900
Then they gave us options: Cash due $3500, then monthly payment of $194, or Cash due $4500, then monthly payment of $157, or Cash due $5,000, then monthly payment of $139.
Do these figures look right to you? Been trying to plug them into lease calculators, but I'm getting confused. Also, if we keep negotiating the lease, are we essentially negotiating the selling price? Sorry, first time leasing and read various articles on leasing, but still not quite understanding it. Thanks for your help!

The number you are looking for from the dealer is the adjusted cap cost - if different than the selling price, find out what's been added.
Also, find out what the cash up front is being used for. We do not recommend a cap reduction (aka down payment) - that money would be lost if the car is stolen or totaled.
The 30/10 numbers for the 2016 i3 are .00137 and 63%. There is a $7500 lease credit available as well - my guess that is being applied after the discount on the MSRP
Hi - could you please share the August #s for BMW i3 lease? Incentives, MF, RV for 10k/24 months. If there have been changes from the recent 5% RV increase in mid-July, please share the material changes and advise which lease duration/mileage now provide the best all-in cost of ownership?
Going to the dealership today, would very much appreciate a reply today if at all possible. Thanks!

The current July numbers for BMW are not set to expire until 8/31.
Hi Michael - Can you confirm if the 5% bump to the residuals in CA carried over to August? It looks like the advertised lease special for the Rex is using a 68% residual for 30 months. But the Bev only has a 60% residual for 36 months. Is it possible that the 5% bump is only for the Rex model? Seems strange....

I can't confirm. I know BMW does have regional numbers, and the only information we have shows 63% for 30/10 and 63% for 36/10.
That said, I do see the following statement in a different doc:
i3 REx Sedan: Residual value increase for an advertised lease payment of $189/mo in target Markets
@Michaell -- is it common for a dealer to say the MF cannot be moved? In reference to the higher than base MF, a dealer in NoCal, stated: "They will not mark it [the MF] down instead they provide a great price. Laura"
This sounds like a load of malarkey, but I wanted an expert's opinion.

Some dealers will absolutely not give you the base rate. Vote with your feet.

Unfortunately, there aren't many 2016 i3s left in NoCal, at least on the Peninsula, so your mileage may vary. Thanks to @Michaell , @kyfdx, and all of you for making this fairly simple.
I think I could have done better had I been committed to the market in July, but 272 is less than the amount I considered a decent deal for a Ford CMax (277).

Still, $272/mo for a $50K car is a pretty good lease deal.
Congrats, and enjoy! I'm seeing more and more of these on the roads here in CO.
Tell me, the REX is kinda like the Volt, in that there is a gas engine that can recharge the electric motor on the fly, correct?
@Michaell -- yes, gas engine to recharge the electric if you exhaust the electric's range. It's a peppy little car that will work for me (limited commute, employer provides valet and premier parking for electric vehicles). Now I want to get my wife something nice, possibly later this year if I can find a high residual SUV.
Interested in either a 2016/2017 i3, the BMW supported lease deals seem almost too good to be true 159/199 When I see the lease deals quotes here some are in the 400$ range.
Are the BMW supported deals only as they are and different configurations dont apply.
Cant seem to figure out how the payments change so much
Anyone know what numbers they use to get the factory supported numbers?

2016: .00137 MF and 60% residual for 36/10. $7500 lease credit.
That advertised $199 payment requires a $2500 downpayment, which you don't want to do. On a 36 mo lease that means the equivalent monthly payment is actually $268. You can tell the dealer you're not going to do a down payment, and negotiate the selling price or possibly get a $268/mo payment without a downpayment. Based on the current high residuals in California I could see a $199 payment as possible with no downpayment if a dealer is willing to sell for at least 10% off MSRP before the $7500 rebate. However I have not seen any posts recently about which dealers if any are doing that. Those ads do not mean that there's no negotiation..know what you want to pay before going in and get a lease calculator app.
Hi, can you please let me know the RV, MF and offers for 2016 i3 in austin? Is there any other offer that the BMW gives like loyalty or competitive/conquest offer?

Hello,
A local dealer has this offer (see below). Can you help break it down... MF, Residual, Lease Credit, etc. Is this a good deal?
Thanks,

i'm looking at a 2016 lease, 24m/12k. Looks like they are offering about 6% off MSRP now, with the full $7500 credit.
$498 doc
$505
$199
65% residual
comes out to like $4249 at singing, $279/ mo
Is there room to work with the % off MSRP, or money factor to save even more? does T1 credit get you any better MF?
Base MF is .00137 for top tier credit; only way to improve on that is to use MSD to buy down the MF.
