Did you recently take on (or consider) a loan of 84 months or longer on a car purchase?

I thought I said there is a sense that some seem to want this issue to grow, like "they all do it", or "there's a big flaw in the design"; or "it's a hazard and someone's going to get killed", etc. And it's true. How many times has someone said they don't have delay and been told they shouldn't be here if they don't have it? I certainly don't believe that sort of thing should be going on, and the doomsday stuff repeatedly implied, and I don't think many others want it either. I just wondered what the reason might be for repeatedly posting in that context.
(Really, what I was attempting to do was open up the discussion a little--and I asked why the same ones seem reluctant to allow that!)
I'm honestly not sure -- it still doesn't shift like my wife's camry, but I haven't had a major delay post TSB (yet).
At the very least I would just think it was spongey & unresponsive. But that's not so much of a problem as a characteristic.
Right now I think it's probably "good enough", though I still reserve the right to postpone judgement until I've driven another 1000 miles or so, at least.
But if it continues to drive like it has been, then I'll consider it not ideal, but acceptable.
No, absolutely not.
Am I willing to lose 20% for a trade-in because the problem is so bad?
No, absolutely not.
Would I buy a new, non-hesitating 4-cylinder Camry?
Yes, absolutely.
You both are doing an excellent job of protecting Toyota's interests by minimizing the hesitation issue and marginalizing all those experiencing the problem. Bravo!!
And I guess you're right, I bought a new Camry SE to replace my old Camry because I hate Toyota, yup, right on the money. I hate 'em so much, I think I'll buy me a couple more, that'll really show 'em!!!!! :P
You state that "being truthful about one's experiences should be a priority". Your obvious implication is that people here are being untruthful about their experiences. How is that fair? I won't go into material misrepresentations you have made here, some of which I have personally pointed out and proven here in the past.
You go on and on in your posts about "Toyota bashing", but I just don't see it. I see a relatively small number of Toyota owners who have a problem and want to find a solution. Most of the people here (like me) have positive things to say about Toyota, they just want to see this problem fixed.
Shifty - I hope you understand that after the many hours that I and others here have spent trying to find a solution, and in my case, many hours just to locate this board, the constant minimization and marginalization gets annoying. It is blatant and obvious to me, and a slap in the face to those of us who have spent tens of thousands of dollars for new vehicles that have this problem, and don't have thousands more to trade them in at a loss. If you don't see this "Let them eat cake" behavior occurring, so be it, but I stand by my earlier statements regarding this.
I have questioned the intent of some of the other posts I have seen here.
05camry33se, I do have a question and I am sincerely interested. Have you had the TSB applied to your car, and if so, did it help with the problem?
So, the answer is, not yet, but I now plan to, and soon. Recent reports on the effectiveness of the TSB appear to be somewhat improved, and I hope that proves true. Either way, you can bet I'll post up here with the TSB results.
Besides, the individual who you defended wasn't intentionally slighted as you suggest, and if he was, he is perfectly capable of speaking for himself.
That said, here's why I as you say "got all over bknblk"
Statements like the following are untrue and perhaps unwarranted: "1. Asleep. 2. Completely unobservant. 3. Terrified (from a collision the driver was unable to avoid). Of course, the cause of the accident might be considered (by some) "driver error" because of eratic and inconsistant accelerator application."
Remember those? Direct quotes BTW, and just a little over the top no matter how it slices.
That's why I responded the way I did. If someone is so incensed as to feel so emotional about something that's bothering him, then perhaps it is time to get away from the cause of stress, ergo, sell the darn car and get a life! If I felt my family's life was in jeopardy because of a problematic car, I wouldn't worry about the cost of getting away from it! It'd be gone, period. I'll bet you would too!
Anyway, let's bury the hatchet and move on, OK?
overly sensitive; out of hand... that's not marginalizing? because someone is passionate about their displeasure with their ride and the lack of support from their dealer and the manufacturer, they are labeled by you as such?
please.
I never said that, and I have never labeled anyone.
I certainly understand how someone who has an unsatisfactory vehicle can be very upset, I would be too. The two posters who do (or did) have a problem have always seemed credible to me. I dont understand however why bkinblk would not let the second arbitrator drive or ride in his car. The first arbitrator said he had a valid concern so it would seem he was getting close to resolution.
What I have never agreed with are the posts that sensationalize the issue and are misleading to an extreme (such as the coffin remarks awhile back).
I am also still mystified with the people who have no personal experience with the hesitation and yet take the remarks of people who do, and repeat, enlarge and enhance the comments for reasons I don't yet understand.
And I have yet to make any sense out of those who have no first hand knowledge about the intensity, duration or frequency of the issue, yet come back time and again stating that it is a serious design flaw and safety issue, while seeming to ignore the fact that at least some of the people have been very satisfied with the results of the TSB. The motivation there still eludes me.
