Thank you for the honest response. It certainly sounded sincere. All except the last part--I'm not sure what your message was, because I'm not of the opinion "Is there really a problem?", never said that and don't feel that way. I wasn't trying to "bring something up"--could you elaborate on your meaning and let me know what did I say that "doesn't deserve a response?"
I thought I said there is a sense that some seem to want this issue to grow, like "they all do it", or "there's a big flaw in the design"; or "it's a hazard and someone's going to get killed", etc. And it's true. How many times has someone said they don't have delay and been told they shouldn't be here if they don't have it? I certainly don't believe that sort of thing should be going on, and the doomsday stuff repeatedly implied, and I don't think many others want it either. I just wondered what the reason might be for repeatedly posting in that context.
(Really, what I was attempting to do was open up the discussion a little--and I asked why the same ones seem reluctant to allow that!)

If there had never been a hesitation issue, and when you first got your car, it performed like it does now; Would you consider it a problem?

I'm honestly not sure -- it still doesn't shift like my wife's camry, but I haven't had a major delay post TSB (yet).

At the very least I would just think it was spongey & unresponsive. But that's not so much of a problem as a characteristic.

Right now I think it's probably "good enough", though I still reserve the right to postpone judgement until I've driven another 1000 miles or so, at least.

But if it continues to drive like it has been, then I'll consider it not ideal, but acceptable.

Would I buy this car new, post TSB, if I could do it over?

    No, absolutely not.

Am I willing to lose 20% for a trade-in because the problem is so bad?

    No, absolutely not.

    Would I buy a new, non-hesitating 4-cylinder Camry?

    Yes, absolutely.

I haven't posted in a long time but I must say hylyner, you and billran should be on the Toyota payroll if you aren't already.

You both are doing an excellent job of protecting Toyota's interests by minimizing the hesitation issue and marginalizing all those experiencing the problem. Bravo!!

And I guess you're right, I bought a new Camry SE to replace my old Camry because I hate Toyota, yup, right on the money. I hate 'em so much, I think I'll buy me a couple more, that'll really show 'em!!!!! :P

That's really unfair of you to say those things! I cannot comprehend why anyone would want, or be allowed to say inflammatory stuff like that. "Protecting Toyota's interests" and "Marginalizing those experiencing the problem" are not my reasons for being here, and I'm not guilty of either one. Other than I like some of their vehicles, I could care less about Toyota's interests, and I don't doubt for one second that people are experiencing something--at least enough to talk about it. My only concerns are "how" the thing is being treated by some, and I've said so repeatedly. Statements like you've just made certainly don't add anything of value to the discussion, and they only amplify my sense that "how" it's being treated (by some) should change if anything is ever going to be resolved. One big improvement is that being truthful about one's experiences should be a priority. Another priority should be that all sides of the issue should be given equal treatment. I don't suggest this discussion be a Toyota "Love-In", but it shouldn't be a "Brand Bashing" platform either!

Fair or not, it's true. You've been all over bknblk, and asking why he doesn't just trade in his deathtrap if it's so dangerous. Easy to say when you don't have the problem, and apparently have plenty of money to throw away to boot. You have minimalized his statements by implying that either the problem isn't as serious as he says it is, and he's not REALLY worried about crashing, or else he must be marginalized and made to feel like a peasant for not having the means to trade in at a loss. How does making statements like that advance the discussion here?

You state that "being truthful about one's experiences should be a priority". Your obvious implication is that people here are being untruthful about their experiences. How is that fair? I won't go into material misrepresentations you have made here, some of which I have personally pointed out and proven here in the past.

You go on and on in your posts about "Toyota bashing", but I just don't see it. I see a relatively small number of Toyota owners who have a problem and want to find a solution. Most of the people here (like me) have positive things to say about Toyota, they just want to see this problem fixed.

Shifty - I hope you understand that after the many hours that I and others here have spent trying to find a solution, and in my case, many hours just to locate this board, the constant minimization and marginalization gets annoying. It is blatant and obvious to me, and a slap in the face to those of us who have spent tens of thousands of dollars for new vehicles that have this problem, and don't have thousands more to trade them in at a loss. If you don't see this "Let them eat cake" behavior occurring, so be it, but I stand by my earlier statements regarding this.

For what it is worth my posts were not intended to minimalize or marginalize. I believe that both bkinblk and mert2 (the 2 regular posters who have a car with the hesitation) come across as sincere and credible.

I have questioned the intent of some of the other posts I have seen here.

05camry33se, I do have a question and I am sincerely interested. Have you had the TSB applied to your car, and if so, did it help with the problem?
  • 05camry33se05camry33se Member Posts: 67
Good question. I have not because I was hoping to capture some real time data with my unaltered vehicle with Pilot's assistance from an OBD-II computer device. As I have periodically checked in here recently it appears that Pilot's tranny guru didn't think it will work...

So, the answer is, not yet, but I now plan to, and soon. Recent reports on the effectiveness of the TSB appear to be somewhat improved, and I hope that proves true. Either way, you can bet I'll post up here with the TSB results.

I honestly think you are being a little sensitive about this, and perhaps should take a deep breath before letting things get out of hand again. Out of the blue, you said some stuff that was at least presumptuous, and at worst, outright mean. I don't really understand why, but I'll grant you may feel you may have had reason to. Either way, your tirade had nothing to do with the topic of discussion, so maybe it's best to just drop it.
Besides, the individual who you defended wasn't intentionally slighted as you suggest, and if he was, he is perfectly capable of speaking for himself.
That said, here's why I as you say "got all over bknblk"
Statements like the following are untrue and perhaps unwarranted: "1. Asleep. 2. Completely unobservant. 3. Terrified (from a collision the driver was unable to avoid). Of course, the cause of the accident might be considered (by some) "driver error" because of eratic and inconsistant accelerator application."
Remember those? Direct quotes BTW, and just a little over the top no matter how it slices.
That's why I responded the way I did. If someone is so incensed as to feel so emotional about something that's bothering him, then perhaps it is time to get away from the cause of stress, ergo, sell the darn car and get a life! If I felt my family's life was in jeopardy because of a problematic car, I wouldn't worry about the cost of getting away from it! It'd be gone, period. I'll bet you would too!
Anyway, let's bury the hatchet and move on, OK?

even if the intent is not there (and we have to take your word at face value) - the language is. reread your post with an open mind.

overly sensitive; out of hand... that's not marginalizing? because someone is passionate about their displeasure with their ride and the lack of support from their dealer and the manufacturer, they are labeled by you as such?

    please.

I never said that, and I have never labeled anyone.

I certainly understand how someone who has an unsatisfactory vehicle can be very upset, I would be too. The two posters who do (or did) have a problem have always seemed credible to me. I dont understand however why bkinblk would not let the second arbitrator drive or ride in his car. The first arbitrator said he had a valid concern so it would seem he was getting close to resolution.

What I have never agreed with are the posts that sensationalize the issue and are misleading to an extreme (such as the coffin remarks awhile back).

I am also still mystified with the people who have no personal experience with the hesitation and yet take the remarks of people who do, and repeat, enlarge and enhance the comments for reasons I don't yet understand.

And I have yet to make any sense out of those who have no first hand knowledge about the intensity, duration or frequency of the issue, yet come back time and again stating that it is a serious design flaw and safety issue, while seeming to ignore the fact that at least some of the people have been very satisfied with the results of the TSB. The motivation there still eludes me.

I think I said I would shut the forum down if we had another outburst of flaming so here we go...sorry but everyone got about ten warnings on this. It's just not an inviting place for newcomers anymore and it's too labor intensive to keep under control.

Please explore other forums that you might enjoy. Perhaps you can find some new faces that don't annoy you as much :P

This forum will remain in active archive for you or anyone to read over if you wish.
