NJ tax of 7%
I had found out about a subaru ambassador program that can get you 500 dollars off of down payment so i knew 1200 down was only going to be 700 down,
I held firm with dealer and they wanted my repeat business so i know they probably used some extra dealer cash to get me to my payment of 235,
salesman said they are taking a loss on this vehicle but wanted the sale,

You want to negotiate the selling price, not the payment. And, get a full accounting of what the $1500 up front covers.

As you suspected the dealer, from whom I got the above quote, was indeed using a marked up MF of 0.0011. When I questioned this he got a little defensive and asked for written proof of a 0.00065 MF from another dealer.

I called up a couple of other dealers and all of them said the MF was 0.00065. I finally ended up leasing a car from one of the other dealers.

Final lease price details:

Sale Price: $22,600
Lease Period: 36mo/12k

If the $1500 covers all the fees and such, their offer looks to be using a marked up MF ... their prices give me a pre-tax payment of $249/mo, not $265/mo.

You want to negotiate the selling price, not the payment. And, get a full accounting of what the $1500 up front covers.

We recommend only paying the first payment and DMV costs at signing - roll all the other fees into the lease payment.

Thanks @Michaell .. All the information you provided really helped. I leased a car last weekend, here's the rest of the story .. in case it helps anyone else:

As you suspected the dealer, from whom I got the above quote, was indeed using a marked up MF of 0.0011. When I questioned this he got a little defensive and asked for written proof of a 0.00065 MF from another dealer.

I called up a couple of other dealers and all of them said the MF was 0.00065. I finally ended up leasing a car from one of the other dealers.

Final lease price details:
Car: Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium w/ Eyesight
MSRP: $26,648
Sale Price: $22,600
Lease Period: 36mo/12k
MF and RV: 0.00065 & 57%

Congrats! Good that you walked on the first dealer - they were marking up the MF the max allowed.

What did your final payment end up to be?

$246 incl. taxes w/ $1500 drive-off

Registration is a non-taxable fee, so rolling into the payment makes it taxable.

We do recommend you roll sales tax and all other fees into the payment.
